Fallin' Song Chart

This opens with a bit of classical music by Chopin, who Keys called "my dawg." She studied artists like Chopin, Beethoven, and Mozart when she played the piano growing up (she was born Alicia Augello-Cook, but took the stage name Keys because of the piano imagery).

Unlike modern samples, classical music is fair game for reinterpretation, and can be used without paying for it. Since it is hundreds of years old, there is no one who can claim rights to the music and collect publishing/songwriting royalties.

This was the first single from Keys, who was 20 years old when it was released, but had started writing the song three years earlier. A prodigy who signed with Columbia records when she was 16, Keys wrote the song while she was at the label. Her Columbia album never materialized, as she never clicked with their vision. When she was 18, she left for J Records, a new label founded by Clive Davis. Under Davis, she was given more creative freedom, which worked out very well. "Fallin'" was a huge hit and validated Davis' strategy.

This song is about the emotions that occur when you care very deeply for a person. Keys was going through a turbulent relationship when she wrote it, which inspired the song. It was a case of young love being vivid, as it was a new experience. "Your first one affects you even more so because you don't have the experience to know how to play it," Keys said. "You're tripping your way through it, and those hardships and good times and just growing is how 'Fallin'' developed."

Keys says that writing the song helped her work things out in the relationship.

The video shows Keys visiting her boyfriend... in jail.

The scenes showing Key visiting her incarcerated boyfriend complimented the song's ruminations on the pain of love. They were inspired by the case of Santra Rucker, who was sentenced to 13 consecutive life sentences for conspiracy to sell drugs because her boyfriend was a dealer. The story struck home with Keys, who became a pen pal with the imprisoned Rucker. The singer told The Guardian: "I wanted to show the realism behind love.... I know people who've gone to jail. It don't mean you stop loving them. It could be me in there."

Keys wanted to play the convict in the video, but her record company didn't want her showing up in prison garb in her first clip. It was a rare instance of Keys being overruled in a creative decision, but it was probably the right call, as the video showcased her striking beauty in a number of backdrops.

The music video was directed by Chris Robinson, who helmed clips for many R&B/Hip-Hop acts including Usher ("The Color of Love"), Erykah Badu ("Love of My Life") and Boyz II Men ("The Color of Love").

The success of this song led to great anticipation for the album, which debuted at #1 and stayed there for three weeks, even beating out P. Diddy's album.

On the strength of this single, the album Songs In A minor sold over 11 million copies worldwide. It was a good time for album sales, as digital distribution (legal and otherwise) encouraged single song downloads over the next few years.

Clive Davis had Keys perform this at his Grammy party, which was attended by lots of industry bigwigs. This led to an appearance on Jay Leno, which got her a great deal of publicity.

Keys got a big break when she performed this on Oprah before the album was released. Clive Davis wrote Oprah a personal letter to help get her on show.

According to Keys, her mother, who raised her on her own (her dad split when she was two years old), helped inspire this song. Her mom could drive Alicia crazy at times, but her love for her was unwavering.

This won the 2001 MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist In A Video. Keys performed this on the show, opening with a piano piece by Beethoven.

Despite the backing of Clive Davis, it was feared that this song wouldn't get playlisted. However, it went on to become one of the best-selling singles of 2001. Keys later reflected to Entertainment Weekly: ''There were so many people who didn't believe in it, because it went so much against the state of radio at the time. And just the journey of writing it - about how when you love someone but you're in and out, the struggle... When I sing it, I remember the years and years it took to get to a place where people would hear it, and I'm just so grateful."

Keys performed this on the 2001 season premiere of Saturday Night Live.

This won the 2001 Grammys for Song of the Year, Best Female R&B Vocal Performance, and Best R&B Song. Keys performed this on the show and also won awards for Best New Artist and Best R&B Album.

Keys performed a version of this with Elmo on Sesame Street called "Dancin'."

In 2003, after the second season of American Idol, judge Simon Cowell banned this song from the show because contestants kept singing it and the judges couldn't take it any more. It wasn't the only song to get the Idol ax; others to share this honor include "Candle In The Wind" and "I Will Always Love You."

Peaceful World Song Chart

This is a duet with the female Soul singer India.Arie, whose career was just getting started. She flew to Bloomington, Indiana to record this with Mellencamp after appearing on The Oprah Winfrey Show in Chicago to promote her first album, Acoustic Soul.

The song deals with issues of race. Mellencamp has often brought up the subject, including in lyrics about a black man in "Pink Houses," and a white girl dancing with a black man in the video for "Cherry Bomb." In "Peaceful World," the message is much more overt, as India.Arie sings: "Racism lives in the US today."

The song was first played during the 2001 Indy 500 in a commercial for the Indy Racing League (IRL). India.Arie was not on the version in the commercial.

It became the official song of the Indy Racing League. Mellencamp's wife, model Elaine Irwin-Mellencamp, was a spokeswoman for the racing league.

This was released about a month before the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in America. With members of his band singing some of the lines with him, Mellencamp performed the song at the 2001 "Concert For New York," a benefit for victims of the World Trade Center disaster. The song fit the mood of the country at the time, as it explores some of the problems America faces in the verses but resolves with a hopeful chorus: "Everything is cool as can be in a peaceful world."

Mellencamp contributed a live, acoustic version of this to the Columbia Records compilation CD God Bless America, which was released as a benefit for the Twin Towers Fund.

The song got decent airplay, but could only bubble under on the Hot 100, peaking at #104. Mellencamp attributed this poor chart showing to a lack of promotion by his label, Columbia Records, and to a bias against older artists in the industry. In the '80s, most of Mellencamp's singles became at least minor hits, but by the '00s he found himself out of favor in the industry, even though he felt he was doing some of his best work. For his 2006 single "Our Country," he allowed the song to be used in a car commercial as a way of getting it heard, since he knew radio stations would ignore it.

Elevation Song Chart

A live performance was taped for British TV show Top Of The Pops on the rooftop of a hotel in Ireland that Bono and The Edge own. They also taped a performance of "Beautiful Day" for the show.

This was one of the first major-label releases made available for preview on the web before the song was released.

Their 2001 tour was "The Elevation Tour," and this was the first song in the set. U2 messed with convention by starting the show with the house lights still on. As the recorded intro music to this song played, the band would take the stage and start the show under the house lights. Somewhere in the middle of the song, the house lights would cut and the stage lights would come on. A remixed version was included on the soundtrack to the 2001 movie Tomb Raider, starring Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft. A video for this was made featuring a "good" U2 doing battle with an "evil" U2, who kidnaps The Edge. Croft rescues him, and the U2s face off in a street jam. It was directed by Joseph Kahn, who also helmed the band's "Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of" video.

Bono's laptop computer containing lyrics to the songs on the album was stolen in 1999. It was recovered by an Irish man who bought the stolen computer, and discovered the lyrics. He turned it in for a reward.

The Elevation Tour was the most profitable tour in the US in 2001. It grossed $143 million in 113 dates.

Afroman (real name: Joseph Foreman) wrote this as a joke for his friends. The song is about his experiences with marijuana and all the things he couldn't do because he was high. He said in 1000 UK #1 Hits by Jon Kutner and Spencer Leigh: "I wanted to take my negativity and generate something positive. I would wake up in the morning ready to take on the world and I was doing it, but then I got high and I messed around and I lost the entire day doing nothing." He added to Rolling Stone, "Some chronic weed inspired it. It took me two minutes and eleven seconds to write."

The first song Afroman released was called "Sell Your Dope" in 1999. You can see a pattern developing.

Afroman released this on an independent label in 2000. It got him signed to Universal Records, who released it the next year. The song gained a great deal of popularity when Howard Stern started playing it on his radio show.

The B-Side of the single is a song called "She Won't Let Me F--K."

This plays over the closing credits of the 2001 movie Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Recalling getting the call from the film's director Kevin Smith, Afroman said, "I was high and was like, whassup, dude."

This was included on Afroman's second album. His first major-label album in 2001 is a combination of songs from his first two independent albums.

In the UK, this was the most popular ringtone downloaded to British mobile phones in 2002. It beat out "Somethin' Stupid" by Robbie Williams and Nicole Kidman and "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" by Kylie Minogue.

In December 2001, a judge ordered a 17-year-old boy to listen to this and write a three-paragraph summary of the song after he was caught driving with a marijuana pipe. The judge also told him he was an embarrassment to his mother.

On the music-swapping service Napster, this song was huge. When a fan started circulating the song on Napster, it created a lot of buzz and led to Afroman's record deal with Universal. Many artists objected to having their songs swapped on the Internet, but for an unknown singer who couldn't get much exposure, Napster could lead to a big break.

This was a worldwide hit. It has sold over one million copies across the globe, and was #1 in Germany, The UK, Ireland, New Zealand and Australia. Afroman was not able to follow it up with another hit, despite efforts like A Colt 45 Christmas and Waiting to Inhale. By the late '00s, he was on the college bar circuit, playing about 250 shows a year to frat boys with fond memories of the song.

In 2014, Afroman released the "Positive Remix" of this song, explaining the practical benefits of marijuana, including its medical uses. The release was timed to coincide with votes on legalizing marijuana in several US states.

People become jaded when they are bored or annoyed, often because they are overindulged and take things for granted. The girl in the song is given everything, which denies her the chance to really feel and experience life.

According to lead singer Steven Tyler, he wrote this song while thinking of his youngest daughter, and how he missed much of her childhood because he was touring. Tyler stuttered his vocal like Roger Daltrey did on The Who's "My Generation."

Steven Tyler and Joe Perry wrote this song and produced it. Just Push Play was the first album they produced themselves.

The Tower of Power horn section played on the album, but were buried in the mix. Emilio Castillo, who is a founding member of Tower of Power, told us: "Aerosmith hired Tower of Power horns after years and years of wanting us to play on their records. They finally decided to do it and Joey Kramer called me up and they said they had their own arranger and I explained to Joey, 'I'm not sure who this guy is but I need to tell you something: When people use their own arrangers, a lot of times it doesn't come out sounding like Tower of Power horns. If you want the real sound you should use our arranger.' He says, 'Yeah, well, this guy's a good friend, he's very talented, he's done some arrangements for Barbra Streisand.' And I said, 'Well, obviously it's your choice, we'll come in and play his arrangements.' He says, 'How about this, if at any time during the session you feel that the arrangement is not Tower of Power worthy, you just tell us - we'll call the session, reschedule, hire your horn arranger and redo it.'

So I fly into LA, we go to one of the top studios in LA where Steely Dan recorded their famous records and here's this guy, he's a nice guy, and he's a good musician but he's not really a horn arranger. Basically, he wrote a lot of guitar parts for the horns. So, the bottom line is when the record came out, you can't even hear the horns on the record and the reason for that is Aerosmith is a guitar band, so what are you going to mix? Are you going to mix the guitars down so you can hear the horns or are you going to mix the guitars up? Obviously you're going to mix the guitars up. I certainly wasn't going to say, 'Look, it's not sounding the way it should sound,' because we're there, they've got a big Indian food spread out there, they're spending a lot of money and they all think it's fabulous. I couldn't say anything, I wasn't going to stop the session. But the next time they call me, I will insist they use our arranger and I will tell them why." Aerosmith performed this at halftime of the 2001 Super Bowl. They also played "Walk This Way," with *NSYNC, Britney Spears, Mary J. Blige, and Nelly singing with them.

This was the first single from Just Push Play, which was released the year Aerosmith was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Tyler (from Q magazine): "When I hit on the melody for 'Jaded,' it was so phenomenal that for a while I was scared to do anything more with it. I didn't even tell the band."

Aerosmith performed this on Saturday Night Live in 2001, two days before they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Aerosmith recorded this at Joe Perry's house, where he has a studio called The Boneyard.

This won a Nickelodeon Teen Choice Award in 2001. It was presented to the band by Britney Spears, who sang with Aerosmith at the Super Bowl on "Walk This Way."

Tina Yothers, who played Jennifer Keaton on Family Ties, had a band at the time called Jaded.

A teenaged and unknown Mila Kunis was in the video. She would later star in That '70s Show and the movie Black Swan.

"Jaded" proved to be Aerosmith's last big hit. Over the next decade, they released a blues-covers album called Honkin' on Bobo and suffered some setbacks because of band tensions and Steven Tyler's medical problems - he was diagnosed with Hepatitis C in 2002.

In 2011, interest in the band was renewed when Tyler became a judge on American Idol, and the following year they released the album Music from Another Dimension!

Tyler wrote this with Marti Frederiksen, who has worked with Aerosmith since the mid-1990s. "That song was my first pop hit," Frederiksen recalled to The Boombox . "I don't know what happened that day, but it all came to me and Steven in a few hours. We were at his house and I remember he was on the phone. Anyway, I started playing the main riff and singing the melody. I didn't have the word 'jaded' yet -- that was his thing. But what I really thought was genius was the stutter when he sings, 'ja-ja-ja-jaded.' Steven came up with that."

Standing Still

This song, co-written by Rick Nowels, means several things. It's about Jewel's music career standing still. Also, it's about her love life standing still because of her career. (thanks, Shawn - Loganville, GA)

Jewel's boyfriend, rodeo star Ty Murray, appeared in the video. While touring to support this album, Jewel took some time off at Murray's ranch in Texas, where she was thrown from a horse and badly injured, breaking a rib and her collar bone. She resumed her tour ahead of schedule, but still missed about a month.

This was heavily promoted on the AOL Music channel as the service launched their "Artist Of The Month" feature with Jewel. AOL users downloaded the video over 300,000 times in October, 2001.

This was featured on the TV series Bates Motel in the 2013 episode "Nice Town You Picked Norma..." It was also used on the 2001 Smallville episode "Cool."

As the title suggests, the song is based on one of the most popular structures in rock and roll; namely, the 12 bar blues progression (in A). The phrase "Rock and Roll" was a term blues musicians used, which meant sex.

The band often used this either as an encore or to open live shows from 1971-1975.

This song came about when the band was working on "Four Sticks" at the Headley Grange mansion they had rented in Hampshire, England to record the album. With a pretty much unplayable drum pattern, John Bonham got frustrated with the session, and tensions rose. In a pique of anger, he started playing something completely different: a riff based on the intro to the 1957 Little Richard song "Keep a Knockin'" (Session great Earl Palmer was the drummer on that one).

Infused with creative energy, they put "Four Sticks" aside and started working on this new song, which they called "It's Been a Long Time." Jimmy Page blasted out a guitar part, and the bones of the song were completed in about 30 minutes.

Nicky Hopkins played the piano on this track. Hopkins was a renowned session player who appeared on tracks for The Who, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles and many others.

Robert Plant wrote the lyrics, which were a response to critics who claimed their previous album, Led Zeppelin III, wasn't really rock and roll. Led Zeppelin III had more of an acoustic, folk sound, and Plant wanted to prove they could still rock out.

Plant, Jimmy Page, and John Paul Jones played this at Live Aid in 1985. It was the first time they played together since the death of John Bonham in 1980. Tony Thompson and Phil Collins sat in for Bonham on drums, which didn't go over well with Page and Plant. When the band reformed for a benefit show on December 10, 2007, it was with John Bonham's son Jason on drums. This was the last song they played at the show, which raised money for the Ahmet Ertegun education fund.

Besides Live Aid, the remaining members of Led Zeppelin played this on two other occasions. When Robert Plant's daughter Carmen turned 21 in 1989, they played it at her birthday party. They also played it at Jason Bonham's wedding in 1990. Jason is John Bonham's son, and he sat in on drums on both performances.

This has been covered by many other artists, including Def Leppard and Heart. In 2001, it was recorded by Double Trouble (Stevie Ray Vaughan's backup band), for their 2001 album Been A Long Time. Susan Tedeschi sang lead on the track.

All four band members got writing credits for this. Many Zeppelin songs are credited only to Page and Plant.

This was the first Led Zeppelin song used in a commercial. Cadillac used it to kick off a new advertising campaign in 2002 with the tagline "Breakthrough." The company was going for a hip, new image, since their audience was slowly dying off. The spots aired for the first time on the Super Bowl, and sales rose 16% the next year.

Lenny Kravitz helped Jagger write and produce this, and also played guitar on the song. Kravitz often opened for The Rolling Stones.

This was the first single from Goddess In The Doorway, which was Jagger's first solo album since 1993. The Rolling Stones lead singer isn't known for spirituality, but on this track he's very explicit about his feelings toward God.

This was released to radio in November 2001, but it was released over the internet on October 23 so that it would be eligible for a Grammy the next year. It was one of the first songs sold via download, and it cost $3.49 through Liquid Audio, which was the first company to provide this technology (this was long before iTunes). This song is about Amadou Diallo, a Guinean immigrant who was killed in his New York City doorway when New York City police shot at him 41 times after mistaking his wallet for a gun. Springsteen felt that the shooting was an egregious over-reaction by the police, who killed an innocent man.

This protest number was written in 2000 and played for the first time at a concert in Atlanta on June 4, 2000, over a year into Springsteen's tour with the reunited E Street Band. A live version was released on the Live in New York City album, and the same version appeared a few years later on The Essential Bruce Springsteen. In 2014, a studio version appeared on the album High Hopes. The Boss said in the liner notes for the album that he felt is was among the best songs he had written and deserved a proper studio recording.

The song sparked enormous media coverage when it was part of The Boss' tour-ending 10-night stand at Madison Square Garden in 2000. The performances of the song in New York resulted in protests by the New York City Police Department and the Police Benevolent Association, who saw it as an attack on the NYPD (some cops refused to work security at the shows). Springsteen has stressed that this song is not anti-police, but anti-tragedy.

Springsteen was honored by The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) in recognition of this song.

This was the last song Springsteen and the band played on their 2001 HBO special, which was made up of footage from the last two shows of their 1999-2000 tour. It was the first televised Springsteen show.

The song has periodically reappeared on Springsteen's setlists in response to newsworthy events that deal with its subject matter. It was revived for the E Street Band's live set after the shooting of the African-American teenager Trayvon Martin in Florida in 2012.

Springsteen described the thought process behind the track in his 2001 published lyric collection, Songs . "Though the song was critical, it was not 'anti-police' as some thought. The first voice you hear after the intro is from the policeman's point of view," he said. "I worked hard for a balanced voice. I knew a diatribe would do no good. How You Remind Me

In an interview with MTV, Nickelback's lead singer Chad Kroeger said that he wrote the song about his old girlfriend Jodi, who he had a rather dysfunctional relationship with. He kept the lyrics very ambiguous, however, which accounts for much of the song's success, as many people could relate to an ex who started pointing out all of your faults at the same time and caused considerable heartbreak: "This time I'm mistaken, for handing you a heart worth breaking." Silver Side Up was Nickelback's third album, and many of the songs were about relationships and personal issues.

Kroeger brought the song to the band a week before recording the album, thinking of it as a possible last-minute addition. The band finished the song in about 10 minutes and knew they had something special. This was a contrast to most of the album's material, which was written even before their previous album, The State (2000).

This was a huge surprise hit for Nickelback's record company, Roadrunner Records, which was expecting Slipknot to provide their commercial success for 2001. Instead, it was Nickelback. The album was released on September 11, 2001. This was the first single and most popular song, resulting in many listeners associating the song with remembrances of the tragedies of that day. A wildly popular song that covered a range of formats, "How You Remind Me" was the most-played song of 2002 on US radio stations. It was also the most-played radio song in the US during the first decade of the 21st century, with over 1.2 million spins. It was followed on this list by Train's "Drops of Jupiter," which was played over 1.1 million times during the '00s.

This was only the second time a song by a Canadian group hit #1 on the US charts. The first time - "American Woman" by The Guess Who.

Sum 41 was known to cover this song from time to time with slight changes to the lyrics. They played it on MTV's New Year's countdown to 2002.

Near the end of this song, the band drops out and Kroeger bellows, "for handing you a heart worth breaking!"

It was the band's drum tech Andrew Mawhinney who came up with the idea for this hook. Kroeger recalled: "He goes, 'you guys should do a big stop right at the last chorus'."

The band gave Mawhinney $5000 for coming up with the suggestion.

Chad Kroeger's fiancée, Avril Lavigne, covered the song in 2012 for One Piece Film Z, the eleventh Japanese anime feature film based on the shŠnen manga series One Piece by Eiichiro Oda. The couple married the following year.

Written by Jackson in the wake of the September 11 attacks, this song was released on November 26, 2001 as the lead single from his Drive album. The track topped the Billboard Country charts and peaked at #28 on the Hot 100.

Jackson introduced the song at the Country Music Association's annual awards show on November 7, 2001. This premiered on the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards. Spears wore a live snake during the performance, which was set to look like a jungle, complete with a caged tiger. Britney was the big VMA draw at the time and expected to do something outrageous. The previous year, she stripped off most of her clothes while performing "Satisfaction."

The "4U" is a Prince thing. He has many songs with numbers and capital letters in the titles, including "I Would Die 4U."

The hip-hop production team The Neptunes wrote and produced this track, which is about a lady who will do anything for her man. The British 7 piece teen band S Club 7 was created in 1999 by former Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller. They were Bradley McIntosh, Hannah Spearritt, Jon Lee, Jo O'Meara, Paul Cattermole, Rachel Stevens, and Tina Barrett.Apart from recording 11 UK Top 5 singles, including 3 #1s, and the US Top Ten hit "Never Had a Dream Come True," they also starred in a series of BBC sitcoms. In The End Song Chart

The lyrics are based on the struggles lead singer Chester Bennington went through growing up. He was often picked on.

This video was shot on a Los Angeles sound stage. The statue's head, where the band is performing, was built there, but the rest was CGI. The areas where Mike is standing "in the desert" are real - he was sitting on real grass and he was walking on real stones, but they were about 10 feet by 5 feet. The rest was, you guessed it, CGI. Halfway through filming, directors Joe Hahn and Nathan Cox decided to set water pipes off above the band, so they all got completely soaked. Nathan could see how irritated the band were by this, so he invited his friend (who's in a Bluegrass band) over and he performed some Linkin Park songs, including an hilarious version of "Crawling." In the video, if you look very closely, you can see Joe's belt buckle, which says "MR HAHN." The song is about feeling like there's no point in living, and was originally seen as being very negative, so the video was very positive. It's like a cycle of life (the song starts and ends with the piano) - the desert is very dead, but the rain comes and at the end, there's flowers and rivers and butterflies. In March 2001, 15-year-old Charles Andrew Williams shot and killed two of his classmates at his high school in Santee, California. This is a duet with No Doubt lead singer Gwen Stefani. It was Stefani's second appearance in a row on a duet, after being featured in Moby's remix of "South Side." Stefani was looking to get her solo career going, and her label boss at Interscope Records, Jimmy Iovine, put her together with producer Dr. Dre to work on this track. Under Iovine's guidance, Stefani did very well with and without No Doubt: her 2004 debut solo album Love.Angel.Music.Baby was a huge hit. At the time, however, Eve was much better known as a solo artist.

This beat-driven track was written by four producers: Dr. Dre (credited as Andre Young), Stevie J, Scott Storch and Mike Elizondo. Dr. Dre produced the song, which was an interesting pairing considering his history with Eve. He had originally signed Eve to his Aftermath label, then dropped her after 8 months, with the lady rapper releasing her #1 charting debut album Let There Be Eve... Ruff Ryders' First Lady on the Ruff Ryders label. While recording this song, Dre and Eve constantly argued in the studio and still managed to produce a hit.

Survivor Song Chart

This was inspired by the reality TV show of the same name where contestants vote each other off an island. It is a play on what happened to the group when they lost three members in one year, and their associated drama was being compared to the show - wondering what group member would be the last one voted off. Group leader Beyoncé Knowles wrote it after reading a review comparing the member changes to Survivor.

Beyoncé says that this song was a defining moment in the career of Destiny's Child, as with their success also came a great deal of negativity. The criticism encouraged her to "write them out of the negativity," which is how she came up with this song.

Destiny's Child performed this for the first time at the 2001 Soul Train Awards.

This won the 2001 MTV Video Music Award for Best R&B Video.

Two former members of the group, LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Roberson, sued Beyoncé Knowles, Mathew Knowles (Beyoncé's father and the group's manager), Kelly Rowland, and Sony Music for breach of contract, defamation, libel, and fraud over this. When Luckett and Roberson left, they signed a settlement that prohibited both parties from talking about their leaving the group. They claimed this song violated that agreement because the lyrics, such as "Thought that I'd be stressed without you, but I'm chillin', thought I wouldn't sell without you, sold 9 million," were aimed at them. Beyoncé Knowles claimed the song was about anyone who ever doubted the group. The case was settled in 2002.
