High Speed Dirt Lyrics

Do it if you dare
Leaping form the sky
Hurling through the air
Exhilarating high
See the earth below
Soon to make a crater
Blue sky, black death
I'm off to meet my maker

Energy of the gods, adrenaline surge
Won't stop 'til I hit the ground, I'm on my way for sure
Up here in the air, this will never hurt
I'm on my way to impact, taste the High Speed Dirt

Paralyzed with fear
Feel velocity gain
Entering a near
Catatonic state
Pressure of the sound
Roaring through my head
Crash into the ground
Damned if I'll be dead

Energy of the gods, adrenaline surge
Won't stop 'til I hit the ground, I'm on my way for sure
Up here in the air, this will never hurt
I'm on my way to impact, taste the high speed dirt

Jump or die!
Dropping all my weight
Going down full throttle
The pale horse awaits
Like a genie in a bottle
Fire in my veins
Faster as I go
I forgot my name
I'm a dirt torpedo
High speed dirt
High speed dirt
High speed dirt
High speed dirt
High speed dirt
High speed dirt
High speed dirt
High speed dirt

High Speed Dirt
  • This song is about skydiving, which Dave Mustaine was into at the time - he said it helped replace his unhealthy addictive behavior.

Bass player David Ellefson and drummer Nick Menza also got into it, but guitarist Marty Friedman took some coaxing. He agreed to jump if the album went platinum, and when it did, he made the leap.
  • Dave Mustaine wrote this song with the band's bass player, David Ellefson. In our interview with Ellefson , he said: "Dave and I talked about buzzwords and the lingo used in and around the skydiving community. So he was throwing some ideas to me and then I would go home and pen the lyric, and bring it back in for him."
  • The title refers to what happens to a skydiver when his parachute doesn't deploy: you hit the dirt at very high speed and most likely die.

    Sweating Bullets Lyrics

Hello me, meet the real me
And my misfit's way of life
A dark black past is my
    Most valued possession
    Hindsight is always 20-20
But looking back it's still a bit fuzzy
    Speak of mutually assured destruction?
Nice story, tell it to Reader's Digest!

    Feeling paranoid
    True enemy or false friend?
    Anxiety's attacking me and
    My air is getting thin
I'm in trouble for the things
    I haven't got to yet
I'm chomping at the bit and my
Palms are getting wet, Sweating Bullets

    Hello me, it's me again
You can subdue but never tame me
It gives me a migraine headache
    Sinking down to your level
Yea, just keep on thinking it's my fault
And stay an inch or two outta kicking distance
    Mankind has got to know
    His limitations

    Feeling claustrophobic
Like the walls are closing in
Blood stains on my hands and
    I don't know where I've been
I'm in trouble for the things
    I haven't got to yet
I'm sharpening the axe and my
Palms are getting wet, sweating bullets

Well, me, it's nice talking to myself
    A credit to dementia
Some day you too will know my pain
    And smile its blacktooth grin
If the war inside my head
Won't take a day off I'll be dead
My icy fingers claw your back
    Here I come again

    Feeling paranoid
    True enemy or false friend?
    Anxiety's attacking me
And my air is getting thin
    Feeling claustrophobic
Like the walls are closing in
    Blood stains on my hands
    And I don't know where I've been

    Once you committed me
    Now you've acquitted me
    Claiming validity
    For your stupidity
    I'm chomping at the bit
    I'm sharpening the axe
    Here I come again, whoa
    Sweating bullets

    Sweating Bullets
  • This song finds a man (apparently schizophrenic) being confronted by his dark side, who warns him that he cannot be repressed much longer. When this sinister side shows up, the man wakes up with blood stains on his hands, wondering what he did.
  • Dave Mustaine has said that the song is about himself, and that he wrote it after "it was pointed out to me that I'm kind of schizophrenic and that I live inside my head."

He revealed on VH1's That Metal Show, however, that the song was inspired by a friend of his girlfriend (and later, his wife), Pam. This friend suffered from anxiety attacks - Mustaine called her "s--thouse crazy." She would take Pam to a party, have an anxiety spell and leave her; Mustaine would get the call and have to pick her up.

After Mustaine wrote this song, Pam thought it was about her, but Dave assured her she was "not that crazy." Said Mustaine, "I wrote this song about her nutty friend."
  • Dimebag Darrell of Pantera loved this song and got a tattoo of a black tooth grin after a tour, a reference to the line, in this song, "Someday you too will know my pain and smile its black tooth grin." Darrell also created a drink he named after the song, which is mostly whiskey with a splash of Coke.

Regarding the line, Dave Mustaine told Billboard: "I think there's no better description of the joy of a good fight than when you see a boxer who's smiling after he's won, but he's had a tooth knocked out."
  • The music video was directed by Wayne Isham, who also did Megadeth's videos for "Symphony Of Destruction" and "99 Ways To Die." Mustaine says he started off sober for the shoot, but ended up very drunk by the end, and he even kicked a hole in the wall at one point. The video shows multiple images of Mustaine as it takes us through his descent into madness.

    Architecture of Aggression Lyrics

    Born from the dark
In the black cloak of night
    To envelop its prey below
    Deliver to the light
    To eliminate your enemy
    Hit them in their sleep
And when all is won and lost
The spoils of wars are yours to keep

Great nations built from the bones of the dead
With mud and straw, blood and sweat
You know your worth when your enemies
    Praise your Architecture of Aggression

    Praise your architecture of aggression
    Ensuing power vacuum
    A toppled leader dies
His body fuels the power fire
And the flames rise to the sky
One side of his face a kiss
    The other genocide
Time to pay with your ass
    A worldwide suicide

Great nations built from the bones of the dead
With mud and straw, blood and sweat
You know your worth when your enemies
    Praise your architecture of aggression

    Born from the dark
In the black cloak of the night
    To envelop its prey below
    Deliver to the light
    To eliminate your enemy

    Architecture of Aggression
  • Frontman Dave Mustaine, who wrote the song with Megadeth bass player David Ellefson, explained the meaning of the song's title: "That was inspired by a book actually titled The Architecture Of Aggression, about the underground facilities used during the Nazi reign of terror. Many people have died in the architecture of a lot of countries. Yet it's just the leaders who are noted as so great in the struggle. The bible talks about the brick makers who stomped the mud and straw and would be left to die in the mud pits. Ultimately, the bricks would be made out of their sweat and blood."
  • This song was inspired by the massive bombing of Iraq on January 16, 1991 that initiated Operation Desert Storm. The sound samples at the end of the song are the voices of CNN correspondents (Peter Arnett and Bernard Shaw) in Baghdad, Iraq, describing what they saw that night.
  • Guitarist Marty Friedman called this song his favorite tune on the Countdown to Extinction album: "This also experienced the editing knife in pre-production and was shortened considerably. One of my fave vocals by Dave and also a real solid jammin' track." (thanks, Kevin - Sandy, UT, for above 3)
