Fairies Wear Boots Lyrics

Goin' home, late last night
Suddenly I got a fright
Yeah I looked through a window and surprised what I saw
A fairy with boots and dancin' with a dwarf,
All right now!

Yeah, Fairies Wear Boots and you gotta believe me
Yeah I saw it, I saw it, I tell you no lies
Yeah Fairies wear boots and you gotta believe me
I saw it, I saw it with my own two eyes,
Oh all right now!

Yeah, fairies wear boots and you gotta believe me
Yeah I saw it, I saw it, I tell you no lies
Yeah fairies wear boots and you gotta believe me
I saw it, I saw it with my own two eyes,
All right now!

So I went to the doctor
See what he could give me
He said Son, son, you've gone too far.
'Cause smokin' and trippin' is all that you do.

  • This song is about Skinheads. At the time in England, Skinheads were not racists, but punks and anarchists. They usually wore boots, which is how Sabbath got the title. Regarding the rest of the words, guitarist Tony Iommi said, "We smoked a lot of dope, so that might be why some of the lyrics are a bit unusual."
  • The lyrics were inspired by an incident after a Sabbath concert in 1970. The band was attacked by a bunch of Skinheads after the show, injuring Tony Iommi and forcing them to cancel their next performance.
  • The intro is called "Jack The Stripper." It is listed as its own song on US versions of the album.
  • Floatsam and Jetsam, Phantom Blue, and Toilet Boys all covered this. (thanks, Brett - Edmonton, Canada)

    Just Like Me Lyrics

    I heard she's beautiful
    A twenty out of ten
    That doesn't keep me from
    Wondering how you've been
Left me for dead when we were
    I'm holding flooding fast
I held my breathe and prayed that
The rain would soon have passed

So if you think you're falling apart
And I'm the only one you'll call
If you keep reaching for me in the dark
    And can't stand it anymore

Then you just call my name
    I will do the same
You can look into my eyes and see
If you've got a broken heart
    Then you're Just Like Me

    Why don't you come around
    Now wouldn't that be nice
Another moment to remember why we felt so right
    I know you kiss me
And in some fucked up way that's fine
I know well only end in another sad goodbye

So if you think you're falling apart
And I'm the only one you'll call
If you keep reaching for me in the dark
    And can't stand it anymore

Then you just call my name
    I will do the same
You can look into my eyes and see
If you've got a broken heart
    Then you're just like me

    Just like just like me
    Just like just like me
    Just like just like me
    Just like just like me
    Just like just like me
    Just like just like me

So if you think you're falling apart
And I'm the only one you'll call
If you keep reaching for me in the dark
    And can't stand it anymore

Then you just call my name

  • Betty Who penned this song after talking with her producer Peter Thomas about his ex-girlfriend and her ex-boyfriend. She told Billboard magazine "When you're in a room with somebody that you've been with before, sexually, like been with before, you don't really know how to be around them and not do that. It's a very difficult thing to do and I haven't lost that for sure. I'm young, but most of the time if I'm around someone that I've slept with, I'm like, 'Get me out of here. I cannot stay here because I'm going to freak out.'"

"And so that song is basically about that feeling of, 'I miss you every day and I wish I could tell you that.' But if I do, you'll be like, 'I miss you too' in this dark raspy tone of voice," she continued. "So I'll feel like, 'OK, this got very weird and I was just trying to catch up with you and tell you that I really miss you but I don't want to be with you.'"

    Dream On Lyrics

Every time when I look in the mirror
All these lines on my face getting clearer
    The past is gone
It went by, like dusk to dawn
    Isn't that the way
Everybody's got the dues in life to pay

    I know nobody knows
Where it comes and where it goes
    I know it's everybody sin
You got to lose to know how to win

    Half my life
    Is books, written pages
Live and learn from fools and
    From sages
    You know it's true, oh
All these feelings come back to you

Sing with me, sing for the years
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tears
Sing with me, just for today
Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away

Yeah, sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tear
Sing with me, just for today
Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away

    Dream On
    Dream on
    Dream on
Dream until your dreams come true
    Dream on
    Dream on
    Dream on
Dream until your dreams come true
    Dream on
    Dream on
    Dream on
    Dream on
    Dream on
    Dream on
    Dream on

Sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tear
Sing with me, just for today

    In Love Again Lyrics

Remember the day our lips touched in the rain
Fireworks in my veins into my heart
Remember the night’s dancing under the sky
I got lost in the moonlight
    Found in your dark eyes

Oh I wanna fall In Love Again but this time
But this time with no regrets
I wanna give it all again but this time
But this time with no secrets
I don’t want just anyone. Not anyone new
I wanna fall in love again with you
    With you. With you
I wanna fall in love again with you
    With you.

Can we forget all the lies that we’ve laid
Take us so far away from the truth
Can we erase all the tears and regrets
    Fear hidden in the pain
    The shadow of yesterday

Oh I wanna fall in love again but this time
But this time with no regrets
I wanna give it all again but this time
But this time with no secrets
I don’t want just anyone. Not anyone new
I wanna fall in love again with you
    With you, with you

We can take a blank white page
And fill it with the dreams we made
And let this goes slowly fade away

I wanna fall in love again but this time
    with no regrets
I wanna give it all again but this time
But this time with no secrets
    I don’t want just anyone.
    Not anyone new

Whoa oh I don’t want just anyone
    Not anyone new
I wanna fall in love again with you
    With you. With you
I wanna be in love again with you
    With you.

I wanna be in love again

  • Colbie Caillat explained the song's meaning: "It's about wanting to re-fall in love with the same person after going through a breakup and after having time apart and wanting to fix the things that were wrong with the relationship and make it better, and not wanting to find someone else," she said, "not wanting to fall in love with someone else, but fall in love again with that person that you loved for so long."
  • The song featured on the soundtrack of the Nicholas Sparks film, The Best of Me. Caillat said: "I've always been a fan of Nicholas Sparks, his writing and the way his writing gets turned into beautiful films. And for me as a songwriter, it's always so incredible to be able to write a song that is something that I wrote from my personal life, and it can fit so beautifully in a film during a scene and actually just capture the moment completely, and it really just adds emotion to the movie and to the song."

"When I got to write a song for Nicholas' last movie, which was Safe Haven, Gavin DeGraw and I wrote a song called 'We Both Know' for the film, and that opportunity was so amazing," she continued. "And now this time around with The Best of Me, I was honored that they were looking for a song that was fitting the movie, and I already had written one about two years ago, and it's called 'In Love Again,' and this song completely fits the mood and the setting of this film."

I Don't Want To Miss A Thing Lyrics

I could stay awake just to hear you breathing
Watch you smile while you are sleeping
    While you're far away dreaming
I could spend my life in this sweet surrender
I could stay lost in this moment forever
Every moment spent with you is a moment I treasure

Don't want to close my eyes
I don't want to fall asleep
    'Cause I'd miss you baby
And I Don't Want To Miss A Thing
'Cause even when I dream of you
The sweetest dream will never do
    I'd still miss you baby
And I don't want to miss a thing

Lying close to you feeling your heart beating
And I'm wondering what you're dreaming
Wondering if it's me you're seeing
    Then I kiss your eyes
    And thank God we're together
I just want to stay with you in this moment forever
    Forever and ever

Don't want to close my eyes
I don't want to fall asleep
    'Cause I'd miss you baby
And I don't want to miss a thing
'Cause even when I dream of you
The sweetest dream will never do
    I'd still miss you baby
And I don't want to miss a thing

I don't want to miss one smile
I don't want to miss one kiss
I just want to be with you
Right here with you, just like this
I just want to hold you close
Feel your heart so close to mine
And just stay here in this moment
For all the rest of time

Don't want to close my eyes
I don't want to fall asleep
    'Cause I'd miss you baby
And I don't want to miss a thing
'Cause even when I dream of you
The sweetest dream will never do

I Don't Want To Miss A Thing Song Chart
  • This was featured in the movie Armageddon, which starred Steven Tyler's daughter, Liv Tyler. U2 were originally asked to perform this song for the movie - the idea for Aerosmith performing it only came after Liv was cast. (thanks, Bertrand - Paris, France)
  • A grand production featuring a 52-piece orchestra, this was by far Aerosmith's biggest hit on the US Hot 100, and their only chart-topper. It was #1 US for four weeks in September 1998, becoming one of the most popular songs of the year.

The song got a huge bump from its placing in Armageddon, which was the top-grossing film of 1998.
  • Diane Warren wrote this song, which is about treasuring every moment spent with another person. Some other hit songs Warren wrote include "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" by Starship, "If I Could Turn Back Time" by Cher, "When I See You Smile" by Bad English, and "I'd Lie For You (And That's The Truth)" by Meat Loaf.
  • This song extended Aerosmith's reign as the hottest rock band of the '90s. Their 1993 album Get a Grip contained four hit singles which also did very well on MTV. With a new generation of fans discovering the group's back catalogue, they were as popular as ever, selling out shows worldwide. Their follow-up album, Nine Lives, was a struggle to make and wasn't released until 1997. It was far less popular, with none of its singles cracking the Top 25. Aerosmith could still fill stadiums, but had to come off the road in April 1998 when Steven Tyler tore his ACL in a microphone stand mishap during a show in Anchorage.

The band was on the wane and facing the possibility of empty seats when they resumed their tour at the end of the summer, but this song revived their fortunes. The tour resumed on September 9, when "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" was the #1 song in America. The album title proved prescient, as once again they became the most popular rockers in the land, still cranking out hits while their contemporaries like The Rolling Stones were forced to lean on their legacies to sell tickets.
  • The Armageddon soundtrack, bolstered by this song, went to #1 in the US. It contained three other Aerosmith songs: "Sweet Emotion," their cover of "Come Together," and a new song called "What Kind of Love Are You On," which they had recorded for their Nine Lives album but didn't make the cut.
  • You'll notice that Steven Tyler is surprisingly stationary in the video. That's because it was shot after his knee injury, and he was wearing an awkward brace that restricted his movement. The video's director Francis Lawrence used a lot of close-up shots to compensate.
  • Giving his thoughts on having a cover song become Aerosmith's biggest hit, guitarist Joe Perry explained to Classic Rock magazine in 2002: "At the time, we just didn't have the time to settle down and do it. We were out on the road, so they brought us in to see the movie and said 'here's the song, this is where it fits into the movie, you can do it if you want.' So we were in the studio within the next three days cutting it. And yeah, we do wish that we'd had a little more time, so that we could have had a shot at writing it, but it was perfect timing. The song was great, people loved it, and I don't think people care that much who wrote it."
  • Diane Warren stated in her compilation album Diane Warren Presents Love Songs that she originally wrote this for Celine Dion.
  • Aerosmith performed a snippet of this at the halftime show of the 2001 Super Bowl, before going into "Walk This Way" along with N'Sync, Britney Spears, Mary J. Blige, and Nelly.
  • This won the 1999 Nickelodeon Teen Choice Award for Love Song of the Year.
  • In a 2008 survey conducted by the cable music channel Magic TV, this was voted by its UK viewers as the nation's favorite love song.
  • British heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury celebrated his upset victory on November 28, 2015 over Ukraine's Wladimir Klitschko in Dusseldorf, Germany with some in-ring karaoke. "I promised everybody I'd sing a song after this fight," Fury said. "So this is to my UK fans, my Irish fans, my American fans and my new German fans; and most of all, this is a dedication to me wife." The newly crowned heavyweight champion then proceeded to belt out this song .

Considering he just went 12 rounds, it wasn't a bad rendition. Joe Perry was impressed. "I thought it was great!," he told Vanyaland . "To belt it out like that… talk about being in shape. My hat's off to him; and to sing to his wife… he's a class act!"

    Bumpin' The Night Lyrics

The week was long, but now it's gone
    The drink is on
So fill your cup and turn the good time music up
    Pick up that swing, somebody
Wrap your arms around it's Friday night
And get a little lost in the party
Flow you the trouble like a champagne bubble, sayin'

    (Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
    Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
    (Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
    Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

    Two bottles of Bud
    Two speakers in the trunk
    Two people in love
    Just Bumpin' The Night
    Two crazy hearts
    Looking in the dark
For a place to park it to their life
    Find an old school way-and-bee
And put a little shine on the bottle seat, yeah
    Two bottles of Bud
    Two speakers in the trunk
    Two people in love
    Just bumpin' the night

    The night is young
The night is free and so are we
    So let it out
And let me stay inside your drink
    Lipstick all along
    Next sipping star
Lie on the window tripping down
Off in the distance the lights of town
    Can't you see it now?

    Two bottles of Bud
    Two speakers in the trunk
    Two people in love
    Just bumpin' the night
    Two crazy hearts
    Looking in the dark
For a place to park it to their life

    Two crazy hearts
    Looking in the dark
For a place to park it to their life
Two shots of Patron, don't wanna go home
2Am in the morning, just you and I
    Two bottles of Bud
    Two speakers in the trunk

    Two bottles of Buds

"That's a little different for us," Kelley told Taste of Country . "It's a little different tempo and it feels like right when you get off work Friday at five and you're like just getting in your car, it's like that song you wanna hear."
  • The song was written by Nashville songwriters Chris Tompkins and Rodney Clawson, who also penned Anything Goes' lead single "Dirt." The third writer was Bart Allmand, who is the Vice President of Radio Promotion for FGL's Big Loud Mountain label.

I don't think they can handle this!

    Barely move, we've arrived
    Lookin' sexy, lookin' fly
    Baddest chick, chick inside
    DJ, jam tonight
    Spotted me a tender thang
There you are, come on baby
Don't you wanna dance with me
    Can you handle, handle me

You gotta do much better if you gone dance with me tonight
You gotta work your jelly if you gone dance with me tonight
Read my lips carefully if you like what you see
Move, groove, prove you can hang with me
By the looks I got you shook up and scared of me
Hook up your seat belt, it's time for takeoff

I don't think you ready for this jelly
I don't think you ready for this jelly
I don't think you ready for this
'Cause my body too Bootylicious for yo babe

I don't think you ready for this jelly

I don't think you can handle this!

I'm about to break you off
    H-town goin' hard
Lead my hips, slap my thighs
Swing my hair, square my eyes
    Lookin' hot, smellin' good
Groovin' like I'm from the hood
Look over my shoulder, I blow you a kiss
    Can you handle, handle this

Make your booty touch the ground (whoo!)
I can't help but wonder why (whoo!)
Is my vibe too vibealacious for you, babe

I shake my jelly at every chance
When I whip with my hips you slip into a trance
I'm hoping you can handle all this jelly that I have
Now let's cut a rug while we scat some jazz

    Bootylicious Song Chart
  • Group leader Beyoncé Knowles came up with the title and helped write this song. She got the idea when she heard the media's sometimes unpleasant comments about her weight and physique. She wanted to write a song that celebrated a curvy, voluptuous figure. (thanks, Micki - Houston, TX)
  • The group says that despite the title, this is a tasteful song. It is about having confidence and knowing you are beautiful.
  • This samples the guitar riff from "Edge Of Seventeen" by Stevie Nicks, and Nicks appears in the video. There's not much crossover between their fans, but the Fleetwood Mac singer and the girls of Destiny's Child share a mutual admiration. They met through a chance encounter: Nicks was at 30 Rock (NBC Studios) promoting her Trouble In Shangri-La album on The Rosie O'Donnell Show when she ran into Destiny's Child, who were rehearsing for their appearance on Saturday Night Live. After a chat, they asked Stevie to appear in the video, which she did.

Nicks has never been accused of bootyliciousness, but she is a visionary songwriter/performer and an independent woman who embodies the confidence Destiny's Child projects in this song. Having Stevie in the video implied her endorsement, which helped appease any of Stevie's fans who objected to the sample.
  • Beyoncé came up with the line "I don't think you're ready for this jelly" when the group was on a plane trip to Japan. She sang it to the other Destiny's Children as a joke, but they loved it and insisted she use it in the song.

She claims that on this same flight she heard "Edge Of Seventeen," and thought the guitar riff sounded like a voluptuous woman.
  • Destiny's Child performed this at halftime of Game 4 of the 2001 NBA Finals between the Lakers and Sixers. They were booed after the performance by the crowd in Philadelphia, who were also upset because their team was losing.

The trio got a much better reception when they performed it at the Super Bowl halftime show in 2013. After Beyoncé opened the show with a few of her hits, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams blasted out from under the sage and joined her for this song, "Independent Women Part I," and "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)." it was the group's first appearance since their split in 2006.
  • Rockwilder and Missy Elliott remixed this as a slower version that was used on the soundtrack to the movie Carmen.
  • Destiny's Child performed this at two Michael Jackson tribute concerts at Madison Square Garden in September, 2001.
  • In 2003, Soulwax created a comical mashup of this with Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" called "Smells Like Booty." (thanks, Ekristheh - Halath)
  • Kelly Rowland told the Daily Mail January 4th 2008, "I'm so proud of everything that we did in Destiny's Child. In Destiny's Child, we showed that we could carry ourselves as powerful women, and there was more to us than just our bodies. Some people thought a song like 'Bootylicious' was about being sexy, but it was more about having confidence in your own skin."
  • This was not the first time the word "bootylicious" was used in the lyrics of a recorded song. Snoop Dogg rapped on "F--k Wit Dre Day," a track on Dr. Dre's debut 1992 album The Chronic: "Your bark was loud, but your bite wasn't vicious, and them rhymes you were kickin' were quite bootylicious."
  • The first use of the word "bootylicious" in the media was on the US TV show A Different World in 1993. "Bootylicious" was added to the revised, third edition of the Oxford English Dictionary Online in 2004. It defines the word as: "bootylicious adjective orig US 1. A term of commendation of rap lyrics. 1992-. 2. Very sexually attractive. 1994-. (Blend of booty buttocks and delicious.)" (thanks, Bertrand - Paris, France)
  • Beyoncé told the February 2013 edition of GQ magazine: "Even the silliest little thing that you hear on the radio, it comes from something deeper. 'Bootylicious' was funny, but it came from people saying that I had gained weight and me being like, 'I'm a southern woman, and this is how southern women are.' My motivation is always to express something or to heal from something or to laugh and rejoice about something."

    Dream Girl Lyrics

You couldn't write a book like this if you tried
    Boy, you'd lose your mind
But girl, you got too many colors to be read and black and white

It's past the point of keeping me up at night
Now it's more like a beautiful movie that never ends
Wanna close my eyes and play it again

    Dream Girl, look my way
Baby, come and wake me, only you can make me
    Dream, girl, dream this way
And you don't even know my name, oh
Dream girl, if you only knew
How much you amaze me and it's crazy, but a boy can
    Dream, girl
Yeah and you're my dream girl

I'm speaking with my heart when my lips don't move
It's all that I can do
It skips like a record and it sinks like a stone as I fall for you

I wish you could hear me and I wish I was getting through
But it seems like every time we get close, all my systems go down
And I'm back where I started and for crying out loud

    Dream girl, look my way
Baby, come and wake me, only you can make me
    Dream, girl, dream this way
And you don't even know my name, oh
Dream girl, if you only knew
How much you amaze me, it's crazy, but a boy can
    Dream, girl
    Oh, you're my dream girl

    Yeah, yeah, yeah

Oh, this ain't just a phase or a trip that I'm on
Words ain't enough, so I wrote you a song
    And it says

    Dream girl, look my way
Baby, come and wake me, only you can make me
    Dream, girl, dream this way
'Cause you don't even know my name

Dream girl, if you only knew
How much you amaze me, it's crazy, but a boy can
    Dream, girl
Yeah and you're my dream girl
Baby, don't you come into my dream, girl, oh
    And I can dream, girl

  • This was the theme song for the movie starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson and Sigourney Weaver. Parker's song was chosen after 60 others were rejected.
  • Parker had to get pretty creative with this, as writing a song with the word "Ghostbusters" in it is quite challenging. In an interview with George Cole, author of The Last Miles: The Music of Miles Davis, 1980-1991 , Parker said: "It sounds easy now because you've heard the song. But if somebody told you to write a song with the word 'Ghostbusters' in it, it's pretty difficult. That was the hard part - getting the title in the song."

Parker added that he got his girlfriend and her friends to shout the title for the chorus, since he didn't want to sing it. Parker, who was a renowned session musician, played most of the instruments on the track.
  • Huey Lewis sued Parker for plagiarizing the medley to his song "I Want A New Drug" on this track. They settled out of court and agreed not to talk about the case in public, but in 2001, Lewis revealed that Parker paid to settle the suit on an episode of VH1's Behind The Music. Parker then sued Lewis for violating the terms of their agreement.
  • The video featured short appearances by a bunch of random celebrities, including George Wendt, Carly Simon, and John Candy.
  • Martin Page played keyboards on this song, and Brian Fairweather played guitar. The English duo had a group called Q-Feel that got a lot of attention when their song "Dancing In Heaven (Orbital Be-Bop)" was put in rotation on the Los Angeles radio station KROQ. They had done session work in England, performing on records for the group Tight Fit. When they came to America, they were thrilled to get the call to work on this track, as they were big fans of Ray Parker, Jr. and his group Raydio. Martin Page quickly established himself as a top songwriter, co-writing the #1 hits "We Built This City" and "These Dreams."
  • When Ghostbusters II was released in 1989, another contemporary hit was expected for the film's theme song. This time, they didn't insist on having the word "Ghostbusters" in the title, which simplified the task. That song ended up being "On Our Own," which was recorded by Bobby Brown and written by Babyface, L.A. Reid and Darryl Simmons.
  • This was nominated for an Oscar for Best Song From A Movie. It lost to "I Just Called To Say I Love You" by Stevie Wonder.
  • This was used in the 2008 movie Be Kind Rewind in a scene where the main characters re-create the Ghostbusters movie. (thanks, Bertrand - Paris, France)

  • This single finds Jimmy Fallon, the host of NBC's The Tonight Show, teaming up with Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am. The song is based on the show's "Ew!" series, in which Fallon and a guest dress up as as a couple of teenage girls who are constantly disgusted by all the things around them.

The pairing with will.i.am marked the first musical collaboration in the series – the previous "Ew!" sketches were spoken-word only.
  • Fallon told the On Air With Ryan Seacrest radio show how the song came about: "So, we had will.i.am on the show about two months ago," he explained. "Backstage we're talking and he goes, 'I really like that sketch that you do, "Ew!," where you dress up as a 15-year-old girl and everything is like, "Ew!"' I said, 'You know, we're doing it with Taylor Swift this week, but next time you come back, I'll write you in and we'll do one."

"In three days, before the writers [and I] could even write any lyrics, he sent me a full-on produced song," Fallon continued. "So then he flies to New York, I go to a recording studio, we tweak it a little, and I write some raps for myself. So this is me rapping, as well, which is sad."
  • Proceeds from sales of the single go toward the SeriousFun Children's Network and will.i.am's i.am.angel Foundation.
  • The song reached the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100. Fallon wasn't the first Tonight Show host to reach the Top 40. Back in 1955 the show's first host, Steve Allen, peaked at #35 with his version of the old jazz standard "Autumn Leaves."

    Sweet Emotion Song Chart
  • Steven Tyler wrote this about how frustrated he was with the band. They were doing a lot of drugs at the time and tensions often ran high, especially between Tyler and guitarist Joe Perry . The song is also a statement about doing your own thing without letting others bring you down.
  • Tyler attributes the first lines, "Talk about things that nobody cares, wearing out things things that nobody wears," to Joe Perry's girlfriend Elissa because of the incredible amount of tension between them. A lot of this tension was caused by their drug use, and in particular one night when Tyler came to Perry's hotel room looking for heroin, and he and Elissa sent him away, refusing to share their drugs. In the Aerosmith autobiography Walk This Way, Tyler says these lines were his "angry side talking, and adds that when he wrote the lyrics, "Can't say baby where I'll be in a year," he was thinking, "but it will be at least 1000 miles away from you!"
  • The music was based on the bass line Tom Hamilton came up with. Tyler wrote the lyrics (Perry was known as "Mr. Sweet Emotion"), and they put the song together in a jam session.

Hamilton says it was the band's producer, Jack Douglas, who coaxed the bassline out of him. Near the end of recording for the Toys In The Attic album, Douglas asked if anyone in the band had some spare riffs lying around, and Hamilton produced this one, which went over well with his bandmates. Hamilton recalls in Walk This Way: "I smoked a bowl or two and wrote the arrangements, the guitar parts. Steven took the intro, turned it around, changed key, and we used it as the tag, the resolution of the song. Brad, Joey, and I went home. Next time we heard 'Sweet Emotion,' it had the overdubs, the vocals, and I flipped out. I loved what they did with it."
  • There is a hidden message buried in this track, but what that message says depends on who you ask. The band did some clapping and chanting that was played backward, creating the sucking noise in the song. What they chanted had to do with their manager, Frank Connelly, who had been diagnosed with cancer and sold rights to manage the band to the team of Steve Leber and David Krebs. According to Steven Tyler, they were chanting, "F--k you, Frank," but their producer Jack Douglas says it was "Thank you, Frank."
  • This was re-released in 1991 to promote their Pandora's Box compilation. A video was shot for it featuring a young man having phone sex with what he believes is a beautiful young lady. At the end of the video, we find out she is a fat chain smoker with a few kids.
  • Joe Perry used a talkbox to create the distorted vocal sounds at the beginning. Peter Frampton used a talkbox with spectacular success on his 1976 album, Frampton Comes Alive.
  • According to Rolling Stone's Top 500 Singles, "As the sessions for Toys in the Attic reached the eleventh hour at the Record Plant in New York, producer Douglas called out for ideas. Bassist Hamilton resurrected a riff that had been germinating for several years, and it was outfitted with bass marimba and Joe Perry's voice-box recitation of the song title. A few months later, Aerosmith had their first Top 40 single."
  • The live version of this song features an unusual instrument: Tyler shook a packet of sugar into the microphone to substitute missing maracas.
  • This song, as well as "Eat The Rich," "Toys In The Attic" and "Walk This Way," was used in the arcade game Revolution X: Music Is The Weapon featuring Aerosmith. It appears during the stage select screen at the end of a level. (thanks, Gordo - Lab City, Canada, for above 2)
  • In their early days, Van Halen used to cover this at some of their shows. Papa Roach also did a cover of this song. (thanks, Bertrand - Paris, France)
  • This song is played at the end of the movie Starsky And Hutch. It is at the very end when they are walking down the alley. (thanks, Ben - Winston-Salem, NC)
  • This plays in the opening of the movie Dazed and Confused. A recurring theme in the film are the characters mentioning going to Houston to buy Aerosmith tickets as "top priority of the summer." A connection: Jason London, who played Randall "Pink" Floyd in the film, starred in Aerosmith's video for "Amazing."
  • In the movie Be Cool starring John Travolta, Steven Tyler is asked what he was thinking when he wrote "Sweet Emotion." He first responds that it was the buzz he got from the album Toys In The Attic, but after a short speech from Travolta, Tyler agrees that it was the pure "Sweet Emotion" that he was experiencing with from his young daughters that influenced the lyrics of the song.
  • In a rare live version of this song, Joe Perry plays the solo from the Led Zeppelin song "Dazed And Confused." (thanks, Brian - Salisbury, MD, for above 2)
  • Aerosmith performed this with Kid Rock when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.

Your hit initial fire and ice
    You're water and whiskey burn
We kiss, we fight, make up all night
You're the blessing and the curse

But I don't ever wanna break this chain
I don't ever wanna walk away
'Cause I ain't ever gonna find another lover
    Make me feel this way

Over and over and over we say that we're through
But I come right back to you

There's a Long Stretch of Love
    Coming down the line
Have you like I want, ever rolling
    Baby, you'll be mine
Have you right here, beside you
When these good times get tough
Baby, we're in for a long stretch of love

You lift me up, you bring me down
    You make me feel alive
You send my heart in overdrive
Every time you kill the lights

Over and over and over we play this game
Win or lose, we never change

There's a long stretch of love
    Coming down the line
Have you like I want, ever rolling
    Baby, you'll be mine

  • Lady A's Charles Kelley described this pulsating rocker as the most honest song on the 747 album. "We're all married. True love is ups and downs. You hit, you miss. You're fire and ice," he explained to Radio.com . "But at the end of the day we're not going anywhere. We feel that way in our personal lives and as a band. We're going to have our ups and downs. We've been through a lot. We just have this long stretch of love. This long view of the group."
  • Penned by the Lady A trio and their "Need You Now" co-writer Josh Kear, this song features a driving beat and Celtic-inspired instrumentation. "What really makes this song special and different to me is how we used an uncommon instrument called a Woodrow, which brings an Appalachian feel into this high energy track," said 747 producer Nathan Chapman. "That unique sound combined with their vocals - which may be the most powerful Lady A has ever sounded - it just leaves the listener breathless."
  • Lady Antebellum opened the shows during their Wheels Up 2015 Tour with this song. "We honestly just feel like it is so representative of who we are, and that's what we want to be the first thing we make at the top of the set," Lady A's Hilary Scott explained. "It's the most representative of us right now, where we are and the longevity we strive for as the band."
  • Directed by TK McKamy and shot in Nashville in late June 2015, the song's music video is a nod to Lady Antebellum's live performance of the song during their Wheels Up 2015 Tour. "'Long Stretch' is how we've been opening our set each night on the road this year," Lady A's Dave Haywood said. "So, when we went to make this music video, we really wanted to channel the anticipation and excitement we feel listening to the crowd go nuts at that first riff. When the lights go up and the fans go crazy, our adrenaline is pumping, and it totally sets the energy level for the whole night."

Yeah your lies your world is built around
    Two faces to a clown
The voices in your head think
    There's four pawns down

    Well in this unity
    Fate has found the need
    You better check yourself
    Before you check out

    If you find yourself
    Then you might believe
    Then within yourself

We all came out to Montreux
    On the Lake Geneva shoreline

    We didn't have much time

Were at the best place around
But some stupid with a flare gun
Burned the place to the ground
Smoke on the water, fire in the sky

They burned down the gambling house
It died with an awful sound
Funky Claude was running in and out

We ended up at the Grand Hotel
It was empty cold and bare
But with the Rolling truck Stones thing just outside
    Making our music there
With a few red lights and a few old beds
We make a place to sweat
No matter what we get out of this
    I know we'll never forget
Smoke on the water, fire in the sky

    Louder Than Words Lyrics

    We bitch and we fight
    Diss each other on sight
    But this thing we do
    These times together
Rain or shine or stormy weather
    This thing we do

    With world-weary grace
    We've taken our places
We could curse it or nurse it and give it a name

    It's Louder Than Words
    This thing that we do
    Louder than words
    The way it unfurls
    It's louder than words
    The sum of our parts
    The beat of our hearts
    Is louder than words
    Louder than words

    The strings bend and slide
    As the hours glide by
An old pair of shoes, your favorite blues
    Gonna tap out the rhythm
Let's go with the flow, wherever it goes
    We're more than alive

    It's louder than words
    This thing that we do
    Louder than words
    The way it unfurls
    It's louder than words
    The sum of our parts
    The beat of our hearts
    Is louder than words
    Louder than words

    Louder Than Words Song Chart
  • The closing track of Pink Floyd's The Endless River album, this is the only non-instrumental song on the record. The lyrics were written by David Gilmour's wife, Polly Samson.
  • The song contains David Gilmour's first new Pink Floyd vocal in 20 years. It was recorded at Gilmour's home studio in Hove on England's south coast. "Both Phil and myself had been pushing David to get the lyric and get the vocal," co-producer Youth recalled to Uncut magazine. "Everyone around him was saying how he hates doing vocals, and he always l;eaves them to the last minute... He does this amazing thing when he's composing and gets a melody. He does this skat vocal. It is absolutely perfect. Apparently that's how he did 'Comfortably Numb.' I've never heard a singer skat a lead vocal so exact, with the right emotion and everything. So we had this skat vocal, and then we waited for Polly and David to come up with the lyrics."

"David had come up with a concept that when he went into the chorus, he would go low and the backing singers would go an octave up from him," continued co-producer and long-time Floyd engineer Andy Jackson. "He's a big Leonard Cohen fan, and that's something Leonard does a lot. Because the studio was in his home, he'd try it every day until he got all the lines he wanted. He ended up just doing it alone. It had been a while since he sang, so he had to get his voice limbered up, a bit every day."
  • Polly Sampson's lyrics are both a tribute to former keyboardist and founding member of Pink Floyd, Richard Wright and a description of the symbiosis that the band members had. Co-producer Phil Manzanera described it to Uncut as, "a comment on their methods of working over their full careers; it seemed like a fitting summation of the complexity of the music."

Andy Jackson added: "It's about the dynamics of being in bands, which I've always thought of as Big Brother on wheels. You become best of friends and worst of enemies all the same time."
  • London string quartet Escala played on the song. The all-female electronic string foursome were finalists on Britain's Got Talent in 2008.
  • The Endless River became Amazon UK's most pre-ordered album of all time. The record overtook One Direction's 2013 set Midnight Memories to claim the title. Asked why he thought that happened, Gilmour told CNN: "I'm going to sound like a grumpy old man. Modern music, to me, is very formulaic."

"My children, who are now in their late teens and in their twenties, all went through phases of thinking the Beatles were the greatest thing on the planet," he added. "There are an awful lot of young people who are searching back through older music for something real, or more original."

"Maybe they're looking for something they're not getting; something that's not made quite so robotically."

The record was broken a few weeks later when Take That's first release as a three piece, III, became the most pre-ordered album of all time on Amazon.co.uk.
  • The video was directed by designer Po Powell who first members of the then fledgling Pink Floyd in 1960s Cambridge. Together with Storm Thorgerson they designed the band's album covers as well as creating the artwork for many other famous acts. The clip features footage shot near the remains of the Aral Sea on the Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan border. "A surreal image if ever I saw one," Powell told Rolling Stone, "and a shocking example of human mismanagement and one of the planet's worst environmental disasters… The river has shrunk to 10 percent of its original size, destroying the fishing industry and whole townships."

    Survivor Lyrics

Now that you're out of my life, I'm so much better
You thought that I'd be weak without you, but I'm stronger
You thought that I'd be broke without you, but I'm richer
You thought that I'd be sad without you, I laugh harder
Thought I wouldn't grow without you, now I'm wiser
Thought that I'd be helpless without you, but I'm smarter
You thought that I'd be stressed without you, but I'm chillin'
You thought I wouldn't sell without you, sold nine million

    I'm a Survivor
    I'm not gon' give up
    I'm not gon' stop
    I'm gon' work harder
    I'm a survivor
    I'm gonna make it
    I will survive
    Keep on survivin'

    I'm a survivor
    I'm not gon' give up
    I'm not gon' stop
    I'm gon' work harder
    I'm a survivor
    I'm gonna make it
    I will survive
    Keep on survivin'

Thought I couldn't breathe without you, I'm inhaling
You thought I couldn't see without you, perfect vision
You thought I couldn't last without you, but I'm lastin'
You thought that I would die without you, but I'm livin'
Thought that I would fail without you, but I'm on top
Thought it would be over by now, but it won't stop
Thought that I would self destruct, but I'm still here
Even in my years to come, I'm still gon' be here

    I'm a survivor
    I'm not gon' give up
    I'm not gon' stop
    I'm gon' work harder
    I'm a survivor
    I'm gonna make it
    I will survive
    Keep on survivin'

    I'm a survivor
    I'm not gon' give up
    I'm not gon' stop
    I'm gon' work harder
    I'm a survivor
    I'm gonna make it
    I will survive
    Keep on survivin'

    Wishing you the best
    Pray that you are blessed
Bring much success, no stress, and lots of happiness
    (I'm better than that)
I'm not gon' blast you on the radio
    (I'm better than that)
I'm not gon' lie on you and your family
    (I'm better than that)
I'm not gon' hate on you in the magazines
    (I'm better than that)
I'm not gon' compromise my Christianity
    (I'm better than that)
You know I'm not gon' diss you on the internet
'Cause my mama taught me better than that

    I'm a survivor
    I'm not gon' give up
    I'm not gon' stop
    I'm gon' work harder
    I'm a survivor
    I'm gonna make it
    I will survive
    Keep on survivin'

    I'm a survivor
    I'm not gon' give up
    I'm not gon' stop
    I'm gon' work harder
    I'm a survivor
    I'm gonna make it
    I will survive
    Keep on survivin'

    Oh (oh)
    Oh (oh)
    Oh (oh)
    Oh (oh)
    Oh (oh)
    Oh (oh)
    Oh (oh)
    Oh (oh)

After of all of the darkness and sadness
    Soon comes happiness
If I surround my self with positive things
    I'll gain prosperity

    I'm a survivor
    I'm not gon' give up
    I'm not gon' stop
    I'm gon' work harder
    I'm a survivor
    I'm gonna make it
    I will survive
    Keep on survivin'

    I'm a survivor
    I'm not gon' give up
    I'm not gon' stop
    I'm gon' work harder
    I'm a survivor
    I'm gonna make it
    I will survive
    Keep on survivin'

    I'm a survivor
    I'm not gon' give up
    I'm not gon' stop
    I'm gon' work harder
    I'm a survivor
    I'm gonna make it
    I will survive
    Keep on survivin'

    I'm a survivor
    I'm not gon' give up
    I'm not gon' stop
    I'm gon' work harder
    I'm a survivor
    I'm gonna make it
    I will survive
    Keep on survivin'

    Survivor Song Chart
  • This was inspired by the reality TV show of the same name where contestants vote each other off an island. It is a play on what happened to the group when they lost three members in one year, and their associated drama was being compared to the show - wondering what group member would be the last one voted off. Group leader Beyoncé Knowles wrote it after reading a review comparing the member changes to Survivor.
  • Beyoncé says that this song was a defining moment in the career of Destiny's Child, as with their success also came a great deal of negativity. The criticism encouraged her to "write them out of the negativity," which is how she came up with this song.
  • Destiny's Child performed this for the first time at the 2001 Soul Train Awards.
  • This won the 2001 MTV Video Music Award for Best R&B Video.
  • Two former members of the group, LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Roberson, sued Beyoncé Knowles, Mathew Knowles (Beyoncé's father and the group's manager), Kelly Rowland, and Sony Music for breach of contract, defamation, libel, and fraud over this. When Luckett and Roberson left, they signed a settlement that prohibited both parties from talking about their leaving the group. They claimed this song violated that agreement because the lyrics, such as "Thought that I'd be stressed without you, but I'm chillin', thought I wouldn't sell without you, sold 9 million," were aimed at them. Beyoncé Knowles claimed the song was about anyone who ever doubted the group. The case was settled in 2002.
