Summertime of Our Lives Lyrics

Everyday at twilight
When the sun turns red in the sky
I think of you on that shoreline
Brushing the hair from your eyes
We were drawing our names on the wet sand
And running away as the tide rolled in

Wherever you are, no matter how far
I promise that I won't give up on you
They say outta sight means outta mind
But that couldn't be further from the truth
'Cause I'm in love with you
I'm still in love with you

Even if there is an ocean
Keeping your heart from mine
That doesn't mean I'm not thinking
About you all the time
I'm counting the days till I see you,
And somewhere I know that you are too

Wherever you are, no matter how far
I promise that I won't give up on you
They say outta sight means outta mind
But that couldn't be further from the truth
'Cause I'm in love with you
I'm still in love with you
Oh oh oh

We had the Summertime of Our Lives
Nothing has ever felt so right
The summertime of our lives
Even though, we had to say goodbye
I know when the world gets wrong
You'll come back to me

'Cause wherever you are, no matter how far
I promise that I won't give up on you
They say outta sight means outta mind
But that couldn't be further from the truth

Wherever you are, no matter how far
I promise that I won't give up on you
They say outta sight means outta mind
But that couldn't be further from the truth
I'm in love with you
I'm still in love with you
I'm still in love with you
No oh oh

Summertime of Our Lives
  • This is one of several acoustic tracks on Surfers Paradise, where Cody adopts a surf-and-sun sound not that far removed from beach troubadour Jack Johnson. "I grew up playing the acoustic guitar and I decided I really wanted to go back to my roots on this album," the singer told Radio.com . "I grew up listening to Jack Johnson, Jason Mraz, and John Mayer so they definitely inspired a lot of the album too. There's a really mellow, acoustic sound to it."

Cody added that this is his favorite track on Surfers Paradise: "It's an all-around beautiful record," he said of the song. "Acoustic guitar, ukulele and vocal and that's it. It's definitely an indicator to how I'm growing as an artist, how my music and sound is evolving."

    The Way You Lived
  • This song tells the story about a woman who kills herself. Her ghost comes back to the house where her husband still lives. She starts closing and opening doors and windows: "I hear a creaking through the door, I see you seeping through the floor." She is trying to tell him that she is sorry. He tells her that he wants to move on with his life: "It's not easy asking you to leave."

    Living Doll Lyrics

Got myself a cryin', talkin', sleepin', walkin', livin' doll
Gonna do my best to please her just 'cause she's a livin' doll
Got a roamin' eye and that is why she satisfies my soul
Got myself a cryin', sleepin', walkin', livin' doll

    BRIDGE:

Take a look at her hair, it's real
If you don't believe what I say, just feel
I'm gonna lock her up in a trunk so no big hunk
Can steal her away from me

    Living Doll
  • This song was from the soundtrack to the film Serious Charge, which was Cliff Richard's movie debut. It was written by Lionel Bart who also wrote the West End and Broadway musical Oliver. It was originally intended for the singer Duffy Power before it was included in Serious Charge.
  • This was originally a Rock song, and as both Cliff and his backing band thought that a song about a blow-up doll was uncool, they originally weren't planning to record it. One of his backing musicians, Bruce Welch, suggested a slower tempo like a country song would work better, so they rearranged it into the now familiar form.
  • According to 1000 UK #1 Hits by Jon Kutner and Spencer Leigh, Lionel Bart said, "I had taken it from one of those ads in the Sunday papers for a doll that did everything and I wrote it in 10 minutes flat."
  • In the UK, this was the biggest-selling single of 1959.
  • In 1986 Cliff did a humorous, anarchic re-recording of this for BBC's charity appeal Comic Relief. It featured the cast of BBC's comedy Young Ones series, which were Rik Mayall (Rick), Adrian Edmonson (Vyvyan), Nigel Planer (Neil) and Christopher Ryan (Mike). When it topped the UK chart Cliff became the first artist to have the same song in two different versions at number one.
  • This was the first of Cliff Richard 14 UK chart-toppers. He is the only act in the UK to achieve a #1 single in each of the first five decades since the inception of the UK singles chart in 1952.

    How I Want To Die
  • Considered by many to be a song in favor of suicide, according to Catman Cohen the song is an anthem for rescue workers who would rather die young and violently in defense of a child than old and miserable in a hospital. When suicide websites created by young teenagers began appearing on the internet in which the song was featured, Catman Cohen was forced to issue a press release denouncing those who adopted the song as a pro-suicide mantra.
  • Singer Amy Court found the song to be "creepy" but, nevertheless, was persuaded to perform in it.
  • Producer Henry Iglesias wanted to sing the entire song but Catman Cohen felt that his own bullfrog vocals would add edge to the piece.
  • Jonathan Joffe, who directed the music video for the song, found it to be so disturbing that he said he would have to wait at least a year before he could listen to it again.

    The Road You Take
  • Having penned the music for this song, Court Yard Hound Emily Robison was struggling with the lyrics. "I loved the music so much and I felt in my heart that the words had to be important," she explained to Radio.com . "I kept trying to write it and I kept procrastinating and I wouldn't commit to any lyrics for the song."

Robison played the demo to a few songwriters, and they all urged her to write the song herself, so she decided to create it around her philosophy on life. "You make your choices in life in a lot of ways, whether it's your relationship or whatever it is," she explained. "Your road is basically a series of your decisions along the way. I believe in fate to a certain degree too but I think you create your fate based on those little everyday decisions. That's what that song is about to me."

    No Mercy
  • This was the second single released from Chimaira's Crown Of Phantoms album. It was made available on June 18, 2013. Asked by Loudwire how the song represent Crown of Phantoms, vocalist Mark Hunter replied: "The album celebrates how there really is no true individual, that we're all an expression of the people that have surrounded our lives and even the spirits of those that were before our time. So in continuing with that, 'No Mercy,' the song itself, dives into ego death. And that would be an expression of not having any true individual."
  • Directed by Patrick Finegan, who plays keys for Cleveland rock act Ohio Sky, the music video is a twisted ride through hell and back. Hunter explained to Loudwire: "The song goes through the journey of ego death and paranoia and [you] basically see me almost in like a buried alive sense. Having the flashback of what had happened and going through the layer of Hell and seeing me in the club and getting shot. It's really all just a paranoid hallucination. A lot of it came from reflection, an isolation tank, psychedelic exploration — it all kind of ties in with that."

    Pretty Brown Eyes Lyrics

    I like this right here

This girl she came 'round the corner
    Looking like a model
    Magazine figure
She was shaped like a bottle
    Long straight hair
She was fly as a bird
    First time ever
    I was lost for words
    Felt so right
    Just couldn't be wrong
    Love at first sight
    If that exists at all
    I couldn't move
    Felt like I was stuck
And then baby girl looked up

    And I said
    Hey there Pretty Brown Eyes
    Whatcha doing later tonight?
Would you mind if I spend time with you?
    And I said
    Hey there pretty brown eyes
    Whatcha doing later tonight?
Would you mind if I spend time with you?

This girl she was a little hottie
    She knows she's got it
Came from the city so she loves to party
The JT song make her move that body
    She's dancing all night long
I could tell that she was a wild one
That's why I was shy at first
But I finally worked up the nerve

    And I said
    Hey there pretty brown eyes
    Whatcha doing later tonight?
Would you mind if I spend time with you?
    And I said
    Hey there pretty brown eyes
    Whatcha doing later tonight?
Would you mind if I spend time with you?

    Spend a little bit
A little bit of time with you
    Spend a little bit
A little bit of time with you
    Spend a little bit
A little bit of time with you
    Spend a little bit
A little bit of time with you

Hey hey little pretty brown eyes
Don'tcha ever be looking at them other guys
'Cause ain't never had no surfer like me
Start swimming over here and ride my wave
'Cause I see that you party like there's no tomorrow
    Let's leave the party
    I'll grab my guitar
    I got the keys
    So jump in my car
    Sit back, relax
    Australia's kinda far

    Hey there pretty brown eyes
    Whatcha doing later tonight?
Would you mind if I spend time with you?
    And I said
    Hey there pretty brown eyes

    Opening Night Lyrics

    Opening Night
  • "Opening Night" is the opening number from the musical and 2005 film The Producers - no surprises there. Like the rest of the score, it was written by the multi-talented Mel Brooks. The song is performed by the Ensemble, and introduces Max Bialystock, who has just produced Funny Boy!, a musical version of Hamlet, which opens and closes the same night. Needless to say, the song is a joke at Bialystock's expense:

    "What he did to Shakespeare
    Booth did to Lincoln"
  • The original 1968 film The Producers did not include this song; of the musical numbers therein, only "We're Prisoners Of Love" and "Springtime For Hitler" were written by Mel Brooks.

    We Can Do It Lyrics

    We Can Do It
  • The third song from the 2005 film The Producers is a duet between self-styled King of Broadway Max Bialystock and his accountant Leo Bloom. In the film version it begins in the office and finishes outside. In the London production at Theatre Royal Drury Lane it takes place entirely in his office. The programme gives the actual date as June 16, 1959, earlier than in the original 1968 film.

Max is played by Fred Applegate; Leo by John Gordon Sinclair. What is it they can do? His latest show having closed on its opening night, Max is told that it would be possible to make more money with a flop than with a hit; the song is about him attempting to persuade the accountant to help him set up such a scheme.
  • Like the rest of the songs in the show, "We Can Do It" was written by Mel Brooks.

    We're Prisoners Of Love
  • This is one of only two songs written by Mel Brooks for his 1968 film The Producers; the other is "Springtime For Hitler." Much later he would compose the entire score for the remake and stage musical.

"We're Prisoners Of Love" sees crooked producer Max Bialystock a prisoner of Uncle Sam. In the 2005 version, this song is called simply "We're Prisoners Of Love". The title is also that of a musical written in Sing Sing prison after Max is convicted of a financial scam - the theme of the film. Happily though, on account of writing this musical he is pardoned.

  • The lead single from The Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack was recorded by the English band Coldplay. Their frontman, Chris Martin, is apparently a fan of Suzanne Collins' Hunger Games novels, according to a press release for the song. "We are so honored that Coldplay, one of the iconic rock bands of our generation, will perform the first song out on the new soundtrack," said Tracy McKnight, Lionsgate's Head of Film Music. "Knowing that Chris Martin is a fan of the books makes this even more meaningful. The Coldplay single underscores the stature of recording artists we've assembled for this powerful soundtrack."

Director Francis Lawrence added: "I have great respect and admiration for Coldplay, and we are thrilled with how well they have connected to the themes and ideas within the film."
  • This marked the first time Coldplay has ever recorded an original song for a motion picture.
  • Chris Martin sings on this sweeping piano ballad about two people sharing the weight of the world on each other's shoulders in reference to the mutual dependance of the film's protagonists Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark.
  • The song's titular character, Atlas, was a Greek mythological figure, who according to legend, was condemned by Zeus for his part in the war of the Titans to bear the heavens on his shoulders. He went to live in the Atlas mountains in North Africa, which the Ancient Greeks said supported the sky.

Led Zeppelin also referenced the Greek Titan on their 1976 track "Achilles Last Stand." ("The mighty arms of Atlas hold the heavens from the Earth.")

    Clair De Lune Lyrics

    Clair De Lune
  • The Suite bergamasque, which consists of four movements, is one of the most famous piano suites of French composer Claude Debussy. The Bergamask was considered to be a clumsy rustic dance, which is said to have been derived from the natives of Bergamo in Italy. The inhabitants were reputed to be very awkward in their manners and the Bergamask dance is associated with clowns or buffoonery.
  • The best known part of Suite bergamasque is the third movement, titled "Clair de lune," meaning moonlight. It was named after Paul Verlaine's 1869 poem of the same name, which references a bergamask.
  • "Clair De Lune" was originally titled "Promenade Sentimentale." Debussy commenced the suite in 1890, but he did not finish or publish the work until 1905. It seems that a publisher came to Debussy in order to cash in on his fame and have these pieces published. Debussy revised the Suite before making it available to the public.
  • "Clair De Lune" is heard widely in movies, TV shows and adverts. Its use in films include being a key part of the soundtrack to James Dean's final motion picture, Giant, the scene outside the Bellagio's fountains in Ocean's Eleven, and Edward and Bella listening to the song in his room in Twilight.

  • The band recorded 3 separate versions of this song; the one found on X&Y was based on an early cut of the song. "Talk" was originally intended to be a B-side for the single "Speed Of Sound" before becoming the last addition to X&Y's track listing. Frontman Chris Martin explained to the NME: "What happened with 'Talk' is that it was all going great, and then someone said 'That should be the first single,' and we all just freaked out and scrapped it all. I hate choosing singles, it's so hard. (But) when we heard it mixed properly, it sounded mega."
  • Martin explained the album title to the NME: "It's a cooler way of saying ying and yang. If I'd called it ying and yang we'd have been in trouble! 10% would walk away. But another 20% would come. We'd be a lot bigger in the Far East. My whole day is a mixture of optimism and pessimism in its most extreme forms. And that's what X&Y is to me. It's two sides. I like the fact they're very strong letters, very clear. Very hard lines, it looks great when you write it down. And it looks great when you see the artwork. It's f---ing amazing. I can say that because I didn't do it."

    11 Lyrics

Seven years old, everything was right
A table for four on a Friday night
Didn't see any signs of a dead end road
By the time I was ten everything was changing
    Fell asleep every night praying
Didn't know which way to go

Momma did her best to hide her anger
And I did my best to try and save her

I was a little too young and a little too dumb to ever think the day would come
When dad would drive away and take his love with him
So I grew up fast in a whole new world
Waved goodbye to that little girl
I can see her now, innocent and seven
I wish I had never turned eleven

We moved into a smaller house
How mama did it, oh I don't know how
Never went to bed without eating
At thirteen I finally realized what it means to get on with your life
Well daddy sure did and he made it look easy

Mama did her best to hide the struggle
And I did my best to stay out of trouble

I was a little too young and a little too dumb to ever think the day would come
When dad would drive away and take his love with him
So I grew up fast in a whole new world
Waved goodbye to that little girl
I can see her now, innocent and seven
I wish I had never turned eleven

I wish that I could turn back time and tell myself it'll be alright, you're never gonna lose the light in your eyes.

I was a little too young and a little too dumb to ever think the day would come
So I grew up fast in a whole new world
Waved goodbye to that little girl
I can see her now, innocent and seven
I wish I had never turned eleven

I wish I had never turned eleven.

  • Cassadee Pope penned this autobiographical banjo and acoustic tune with Nathan Chapman, who is Taylor Swift's regular producer. It tells the story of her parents' divorce.

"I was a little too young and a little too dumb

When Dad would drive away and take his love with him
So I grew up fast in a whole new world
Waved goodbye to that little girl I can see her now
Innocent and seven I wish I had never turned 11."

Pope explained: "As a kid, when you go through something like your parents' divorce, weird things go through your mind and you have no control."

    Thank God I'm Old Lyrics

    Thank God I'm Old
  • This song from Act I of the musical Barnum has music by Cy Coleman and lyrics by Michael Stewart, like all the others. It is sung by Joice Heth, the oldest woman in the world. Although the performance - if not the song itself - is laced with comedy, there was nothing humorous about the way Phineas T. Barnum treated the real Joice Heth, the woman who launched his career as a showman.

In the musical, Joice is represented as 160 years old; the real Joice was said to have been 161 years old; a former slave, it was also claimed she had been the nurse of a young George Washington. Barnum exhibited Joice from 1835 until her death on February 19, 1836. Then he had an autopsy performed on her in public, selling tickets to it. The doctor who carried it out claimed she had been no more than eighty years old.

Barnum is said to have paid a thousand dollars for the right to exhibit his charge while she was alive - an astronomical sum in the 1830s. If Barnum was duped by the claims and apparently authentic documentation about this woman, there can be no doubt that was because he allowed himself to be.

The Colors of My Life Lyrics

    The Colors of My Life
  • "The Colors of My Life" is a song from the first act of Barnum, the musical based on the life of American showman Phineas T. Barnum. Like the rest of the songs in the show it was composed by Cy Coleman and written by Michael Stewart. The slowest song in the show, it is begun by Barnum and finished by his wife. It is the way Barnum sees his life, but alas his wife paints a different and more realistic portrait. The song is reprised in act two.
