Atlas Lyrics

Some saw the sun
Some saw the smoke
Some heard the gun
Some bent the bow

Sometimes the wire must tense for the note
Caught in the fire, say oh
We're about to explode

Carry your world, I'll carry your world
Carry your world, I'll carry your world

Some far away
Some search for gold
Some dragon to slay
Heaven we hope is just up the road

Show me the way, Lord, 'cause I, I'm about to explode

Carry your world, I'll carry your world
Carry your world, I'll carry your world

Carry your world, and all your hurt

(Carry your world, carry your world)

  • The lead single from The Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack was recorded by the English band Coldplay. Their frontman, Chris Martin, is apparently a fan of Suzanne Collins' Hunger Games novels, according to a press release for the song. "We are so honored that Coldplay, one of the iconic rock bands of our generation, will perform the first song out on the new soundtrack," said Tracy McKnight, Lionsgate's Head of Film Music. "Knowing that Chris Martin is a fan of the books makes this even more meaningful. The Coldplay single underscores the stature of recording artists we've assembled for this powerful soundtrack."

Director Francis Lawrence added: "I have great respect and admiration for Coldplay, and we are thrilled with how well they have connected to the themes and ideas within the film."
  • This marked the first time Coldplay has ever recorded an original song for a motion picture.
  • Chris Martin sings on this sweeping piano ballad about two people sharing the weight of the world on each other's shoulders in reference to the mutual dependance of the film's protagonists Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark.
  • The song's titular character, Atlas, was a Greek mythological figure, who according to legend, was condemned by Zeus for his part in the war of the Titans to bear the heavens on his shoulders. He went to live in the Atlas mountains in North Africa, which the Ancient Greeks said supported the sky.

Led Zeppelin also referenced the Greek Titan on their 1976 track "Achilles Last Stand." ("The mighty arms of Atlas hold the heavens from the Earth.")

    Elastic Heart Lyrics

And another one bites the dust
But why can I not conquer love?
And I might've got to be with one
Why not fight this war without weapons?
And I want it and I wanted it bad
But there were so many red flags
Now another one bites the dust
And let's be clear, I trust no one

    You did not break me
    I'm still fighting for peace

Well I've got thick skin and an Elastic Heart
But your blade it might be too sharp
I'm like a rubber band until you pull too hard
But I may snap when I move close
But you won't see me fall apart
'Cause I've got an elastic heart
    I've got an elastic heart
Yeah, I've got an elastic heart

And I will stay up through the night
Let's be clear, I won't close my eyes
And I know that I can survive
I walked through fire to save my life
And I want it, I want my life so bad
And I'm doing everything I can
Then another one bites the dust
It's hard to lose a chosen one

You did not break me (You did not break me, no, no)
    I'm still fighting for peace

Well I've got thick skin and an elastic heart
But your blade it might be too sharp
I'm like a rubber band until you pull too hard
But I may snap when I move close
But you won't see me fall apart
'Cause I've got an elastic heart

Well I've got thick skin and an elastic heart
But your blade it might be too sharp
I'm like a rubber band until you pull too hard
But I may snap when I move close
But you won't see me fall apart
'Cause I've got an elastic heart

Well I've got thick skin and an elastic heart
But your blade it might be too sharp
I'm like a rubber band until you pull too hard
But I may snap when I move close
But you won't see me fall apart
'Cause I've got an elastic heart

    Elastic Heart
  • This soaring ballad is a collaboration between Australian singer-songwriter Sia, Toronto R&B crooner The Weeknd, and Philadelphia producer Diplo, who as well as heading his own dancehall project (Major Lazer) has also provided the soundscape for a succession of pop hits such as Usher's "Climax" and Chris Brown's "Look At Me Now."
  • The song started as a track that Diplo sent to Sia. Her reaction was immediate: "For the first time ever, I called someone and said, 'Do not send that track to anyone else - I'll pay for the track tomorrow,'" she recalled to Billboard magazine. "And he said, 'You don't have to pay for the track, you dingaling, it's yours.'"

Sia wrote lyrics for the song about finding love after enduring heartbreak and pain, hoping that Katy Perry would record it, maybe for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack. Perry passed, so the Australian songstress did her own vocal. Sia's manager got the Weeknd to add his falsetto to the mix, anticipating it would enhance the song's chances of being chosen for the soundtrack. The plan worked and after Sia was shown an early draft of the movie, she rewrote the lyrics to make the song fit the film franchise.
  • The song's music video reunites "Chandelier" director Daniel Askill, choreographer Ryan Heffington and Dance Moms star Maddie Ziegler. The clip features a dance battle between a shirtless Shia LaBeouf (Transformers, Fury) and a blonde-bobbed Maddie Ziegler in a giant bird cage.

The intimacy between the two actors provoked concerns of pedophilia on social media. Sia addressed the outcry on Twitter describing the pairs' performance as "These two warring 'sia' self states."

She added, "I apologize to those who feel triggered by #ElasticHeart My intention was to create some emotional content, not to upset anybody."
  • Maddie Ziegler thought Shia LeBeouf did "really well" considering he hadn't had much dance experience before the video shoot. She recalled to MTV News: "I was confused, like, 'Wait, Shia's not a dancer, is he?' And everyone was like, 'No.' But he actually did really well, he did. He wasn't a bad dancer at all. For him, it was mainly fighting, and acting, and running around. And screaming."
  • Sia would hide her face during performances of this song (and also "Chandelier"), as she was determined to deter the intrusions on fame and shield herself from the judgment of the Internet. One of her more intriguing performances of the song was on the Ellen show, where she sang it with her head protruding from a white box, her eyes covered with the wig. The visual component was handled by Maddie Ziegler, who did an interpretive dance from the box with several girls in similar boxes behind her.
  • Sia brought out Maddie Ziegler to help her perform the song during her appearance on Saturday Night Live. Whilst the Aussie songstress faced stage right, her face covered in a veil from the nose up, Ziegler re-enacted her video dance with Denna Thomsen, who was standing in for Shia LeBoeuf. Sia also sang "Chandelier" on the show alongside a sad-looking mime.

    Gale Song Lyrics

    It's a lonely road
    Full of tired men
And you can see it in their faces
And you'll be home in spring
    I can wait till then
    I heard you're on a big train

And all this too shall pass
This loneliness won't last for long
I wasn't there to take his place
I was ten thousand miles away
So when you hear my voice
    When you say my name
May it never give you pain

    I don't wanna go
    But it's time to leave
You'll be on my mind, my destiny

And I won't fight it in vain
I love you just the same
    I couldn't know what's in your mind
But I saw the pictures, you're looking fine

    And there was a time
When I stood in line for love, for love, for love
But I let you go, oh, I let you go

    And he fell apart
    With this broken heart
And this blood, this blood, this blood
Oh, it drains from my skin and dust

  • Wesley Schultz's interest in Suzanne Collins' Hunger Games trilogy was aroused by a Mockingjay pin that Patti Smith was wearing at Clive Davis' pre-Grammys party. The Lumineers vocalist started reading the books and penned this fragile slow builder about protagonist Katniss Everdeen's best friend and hunting partner Gale Hawthorne, who is also a romantic rival to Peeta Mellark. "I was interested in his perspective, " Schultz told Billboard magazine "He is a man in the shadows, left waiting in the wings as Katniss takes the stage with Peeta."
