White Suburban Lyrics

I knew you before
Took a lifetime to forget
But as my eyes meet yours
I take all I can get
Lay light up the shadows of my heart
Return stolen works of art
Yeah, you can’t discern this moment's grace

But I still remember you
In that big, old, White Suburban
And although you look right past me
With disregard
The first won't happen twice

But gazing still at the ground
More alone than I was then
I have searched your eyes
But they don’t comprehend
I crawl back into the shadows of my heart
And just sit there in the dark
Where you don’t require the love you’ll still take

But I still remember you
In that big, old, white Suburban
And although you look right past me
With disregard
The first won't happen twice

And although I’ve since moved on
And I’ve been in love a few times
There’s still a piece of me
That holds on to you
‘Cause the first won’t happen twice
Won’t happen twice
It won’t happen twice

I remember you
In that big, old, white Suburban
And although you look right past me
With disregard
And although I’ve since moved on
And I’ve been in love a few times
There’s still a piece of me
That can’t let go of you
‘Cause the first won’t happen twice

White Suburban
  • There was a period when Skylar Grey lost her love for making music. As it wasn't fun anymore she took a step back and moved from Los Angeles to Utah in order to revert back to nature. This was the first song Grey wrote after she'd arrived in Utah. She explained to Artist Direct : "I wrote it because I needed to get something creative out of my system with no pressures attached to it. I wasn't writing a hit pop song. I wasn't trying to be super indulgent in my chord choices."
  • Grey's lyrics for this song are about her past. She recalled to Artist Direct: "Growing up my best friend had an old white suburban. It was rusty, and we had a lot of stories associated with that car. While I didn't fall in love with anybody in that car, it was the idea of looking back that far into the past and remembering. I had that first love as a kid. Your first love never really leaves you. The song talks about that."
