Silhouettes Lyrics

Took a walk and passed your house late last night
All the shades were pulled and drawn way down tight
From within, the dim light cast two Silhouettes on the shade
Oh, what a lovely couple they made

Put his arms around your waist, held you tight
Kisses I could almost taste in the night
Wondered why I'm not the guy who's silhouette's on the shade
I couldn't hide the tears in my eyes

Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah

Lost control and rang your bell; I was sore
Let me in, or else I'll beat down your door
When two strangers who have been two silhouettes on the shade
Said, to my shock, "You're on the wrong block."

Rushed out to your house with wings on my feet
Loved you like I'd never loved you, my sweet
Vowed that you and I would be two silhouettes on the shade
All of our days, two silhouettes on the shade

Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah

Silhouettes
  • This song is about a guy who sees a couple kissing and fooling around. He sees their shadows through a closed curtain, and thinks that it's his girl cheating on him. He gets so upset at what he's watching he bangs on the door, only to find out he has the wrong house. He then rushes to the right house, and together he and his girl make their own shadows when they kiss.
  • This was previously a hit for the Rays (US #3) and later by the Diamonds (US #10, both in 1957).
  • Herman's Hermits lead singer Peter Noone sang on this track, but the other band members didn't play on it. The session musicians brought in were:

    Vic Flick - guitar
    Big Jim Sullivan - guitar
John Paul Jones - bass (yep, the guy from Led Zeppelin)
    Bobby Graham - drums
John Carter and Ken Lewis - backing vocals
  • Jimmy Page, who was a session guitarist at the time and went on to form Led Zeppelin, played on this song. In an interview with the Forgotten Hits newsletter, Peter Noone, who was lead singer of Herman's Hermits, addressed the use of outside musicians on their recordings: "The Hermits played on the songs that they played well on. Sometimes other musicians played on tracks, mostly because the band's weakness was our drummer (the nicest guy in the band and therefore irreplaceable) because he had pretty unusual time and was therefore un-overdubbable (my word) so we started using Clem Cattini (Tornadoes) and Jim Page (Yardbirds), John Paul Jones, Herbie Flowers and whoever was around at the time. Lek is the guitarist on 'For Your Love' so you can see he was very good. Jim played on 'Silhouettes' and 'Wonderful World' and, once Karl Green faded, he was replaced on all the recordings by John Paul Jones, who also arranged almost everything and was our genius."
  • This song inspired the storyline of "No Reply," which John Lennon wrote for The Beatles.

    Blood Brothers Lyrics

We were as young as we were dumb
When we piled in a ol' pile of junk
It was one for all, and all for one
A bunch of outlaws without a gun
Shootin' bad booze outta Dixie cups
Chasin' every girl that wasn't fast enough
No matter how bad the break or how bad the luck
Or how bad the day you still had us

Blood Brothers closer than your next to kin
Thick as thieves and the best of friends
Take a bullet for each other

Yea brothers a light that don't come cheap
You fight you cry you lie you bleed
And you lean on one another
    Blood brothers

I got a scar on my cheek from a bar room brawl
Wasn't meant for me but I took the fall
It's a cowboy code it's an unwrote law
When you mess with one you gotta take us all.

Blood brother's closer than your next to kin
Thick as these and the best of friends
Take a bullet for each other

Yea brothers a light that don't come cheap
You fight, you cry, you lie, you bleed
And you lean on one another
    Blood brothers

    Time can fly on by
    Everything can change
    Until the day we die
    We'll always remain
    We'll remain
    Yea yea yea

Blood brothers closer than you next of kin
Thick as these and the best of friends
Take a bullet for each other

Yea brothers a light that don't come cheap
You fight, you cry, you lie, you bleed
And you lean on one another
    Blood brothers

    Yea yea
    Oh oh

    Blood Brothers
  • Western metaphors proliferate on this Brett James and Bobby Pinson penned song amidst a high-noon arrangement. It finds Bryan looking back at his youth as he recalls how he and his "Blood Brothers" used to run their small town.

"We were young as we were dumb
When we piled in an old pile of junk
It was all-for-one and all for one
Bunch of outlaws without a gun."

Bryan said this is "a song that reverts back to the past, those memories of the past and growing up like I did."

    Breathe Lyrics

I can feel the magic floating in the air
Being with you get's me that way
I watch the sunlight dance across your face
And I've never been this swept away

All my thoughts just seem to settle on the breeze
When I'm lying wrapped up in your arms
The whole world just fades away
    The only thing I hear
Is the beating of your heart

'Cause I can feel you Breathe
    It's washing over me
And suddenly I'm melting into you
    There's nothing left to prove
Baby, all we need is just to be
    Caught up in the touch
    Slow and steady rush
Baby, isn't that the way that love's suppose to be
I can feel you breathe, just breathe

In a way I know my heart is waking up
As all the walls come tumbling down
Closer than I've ever felt before
And I know, and you know
There's no need for words right now

    I can feel you breathe
    Washing over me
And suddenly I'm melting into you
    There's nothing left to prove
Baby, all we need is just to be

    Unbreak My Mixtape
  • This drum and bass breakup anthem finds M.I.A. addressing an ex by sending him a song chock full of references to other ditties. She croons:

    "Here's a mixtape that I made, let's take a break
Don't wanna fuss away, baby if it's too late
While I get my life so it is a mixtape."
  • The song title is a reference to Toni Braxton's "Un-Break My Heart," whilst tunes sampled include Carly Simon's "Why," Fresh 4's cover of Rose Royce's "Wishing On A Star" and the acoustic guitar and vocal from Blur's "Tender." There is an extended snippet of Karen Dalton's "I Love You More Than Words Can Say" at the end.

    Life On Venus Lyrics

    Life On Venus
  • This song was group leader Joe Meek's tribute to the keyboard sounds of the day. The track starts with a voiceover: "News Flash; Signals have been received from the Planet Venus these resemble sounds similar to those created by a musical instrument such as an organ so perhaps there is Life on Venus?"
  • The organ is the main instrument used in the tune with a Guitar solo in the second verse then the organ returns with the accompaniment of a vocal, which is similar to their hit "Telstar." A second Meek example is "Pop Art Goes Mozart." In this track he combines as the title implies the modern beat of a pop tune with the sound of instrument that sounds a bit like a harpsichord.
  • Other tunes and tracks performed by the Tornados which have the Organ as the main or featured instrument: "Cootenanny," "Costa Monger," "Do you come here often," "Exodus" (almost a standard tune in a band's playlist during the '60s and early '70s), "Globetrottin," "Hot Pot," "Hymn For Teenagers," "Indian Brave," "Jungle Fever," "Locomotion With You," "Monte Carlo," "The Ice Cream Man," "The Scales Of Justice."

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to our six star
The Hotel Cabana, a world full of drama
Interior designed by Dolce & Gabbana
Hotel Cabana, where you check out 'fore you check in to our beds
And I guess you’ll write their checks out without checking
Double rooms with hammocks in, masquerades and mannequins
Discounts for kids now and anyone who hasn’t sinned
Yea, but beware of the piranhas
And surveillance from the cameras while you’re wearing your Havanas in

Hotel Cabana, where the sleepless kids live
Dancing with fire, look what young money did
Confetti on their heads, stranger in my beds
    Cabana
Hotel Cabana, where the curious go
Jump in the sauna, let the bad habits grow
Oh oh dancing on the edge
Hope it never ends in Cabana

Let me take you on a journey through these eternal corridors
Polished floors, no third, no seventh or eleventh floor
Founded and built up on a premise of a clever thought
Witness an experience of something unforgettable
    Hotel Cabana, José Hosanna
    There are cloaks and daggers
There are snakes and ladders yeah
Lost souls roaming round like night owls
So make sure the doors are locked before you turn the lights out

    Welcome To Cabana
  • This is the introductory track to British-born Pakistani record producer Shahid "Naughty Boy" Khan's debut album Hotel Cabana. The record is a concept album, based around a luxury hotel where musicians come to perform. This song features singer-songwriter Emeli Sandé and rapper Tinie Tempah.

Khan explained where the idea came from to Digital Spy . "One of my many early jobs was a waiter at a hotel called The Grove," he said. "It's a luxury hotel. This was in 2005 so it was only later on that I thought about the concept. I became a bit obsessed with them, because I used to see these rich and famous people. They'd spend lavish amounts of money, people would be able to complain more because it was expensive and they'd have affairs. I just think hotels are strange weird places - and luxury hotels even more so."

"When I was making the album," he continued, "I couldn't just put a bunch of songs together - it would have been easy to do that. So I needed an idea. 'Hotel California' is one of my favourite songs and I just love the whole idea of what you can discuss. It was just a crazy idea that I stuck with."
  • This is one of four songs on the album (eight including the bonus tracks), that features the voice of Sandé . Khan also collaborated on much of the Scottish singer-songwriter's debut album, Our Version of Events, including her hit single "Heaven."
  • Khan asked Tinie Tempah to imagine on this intro track that he was working on Hotel Cabana's front desk.
  • The album was recorded at Cabana Studios, which is located at Ealing Studios in London. The record title was in part inspired by the studio.

    Let Me Roll It
  • Many have interpreted this song as an olive branch offering to John Lennon after all the bitterness arising from his Beatles breakup song, "How Do You Sleep?." However, in an interview with Clash magazine in 2010 McCartney explained this was more of a drugs song. Said Macca: "'Let Me Roll It' wasn't to John, it was just in the style that we did with The Beatles that John was particularly known for. It was really actually the use of the echo. It was one of those: 'You're not going to use echo just cos John used it?' I don't think so. To tell you the truth, that was more [about] rolling a joint. That was the double meaning there: 'let me roll it to you.' That was more at the back of mind than anything else. 'Dear Friend,' that was very much 'let's be friends' to John."

    Why are there always users?
    Why are there never falters?
    In my Covent
    I'm at the starting line
I'm jumping the gun this time
    I'm out

    I've got a feeling
No this is not the same
Is there grass in the opening
    In this fight
    I think I'm Losing Ground
    Finding some loaded dice
Why is luck never on my side
    In this fight
    I think I'm losing yes I'm losing
    But I'm feeling fine

    Why are they always leaving
    And leaving my heart bleeding
    I don't mean it

    Coming the harder play
    We're going on holiday
    I've got a feeling

No this is not the same
Is there grass in the opening
    In this fight
    I think I'm losing ground
    Finding some loaded dice
Why is luck never on my side
    In this fight
    I think I'm losing yes I'm losing
    But I'm feeling fine

    I'm in a foreign land
I'm leaving this all behind me
    I'm going fishing
I need some peace and quiet
I need to change my diet
    I'm on a mission

No this is not the same
Is there grass in the opening

    Stephanie Says
    That she wants to know
Why she's given half her life,
    To people she hates now

    Stephanie says
    When answering the phone
    What country shall I say
Is calling from across the world

But she's not afraid to die,
The people all call her Alaska
Between worlds so the people ask her
Cause it's all in her mind
    It's all in her mind

    Stephanie says
    That she wants to know
Why it is though she's the door
    She can't be the room

    Stephanie says
But doesn't hang up the phone
What sea shell she is calling
    From across the world

But she's not afraid to die,
The people all cal her Alaska
Between worlds so the people ask her
Cause it's all in her mind
    It's all in her mind

    They're asking
    Is it good or bad
    It's such an icy feeling
    It's so cold in Alaska,
    It's so cold in Alaska,
    It's so cold in Alaska

    Stephanie Says
  • This song demonstrates a sensitive side of Lou Reed's songwriting. Like many of Reed's songs, the lyrics are rather complicated, but they seem to be about a girl who was once very restricted, but escaped and moved on to another life. As she reflects on what once was, she becomes depressed about her life.
  • As written in The Velvet Underground: An Illustrated History of a Walk on the Wild Side , this is one of three final songs recorded by the Velvet Underground's seminal line-up of Lou Reed, Sterling Morrison, John Cale, and Maureen Tucker. Tucker had taken maternity leave and came back with family commitments interfering with her career; Reed and Cale continued to feud, and the group members also had clashes with their manager, Sesnick. Combined tensions with the lack of radio support in New York, lack of chart recognition, and lack of money spelled the last days of the Velvet Underground. The three final songs recorded were "Stephanie Says" and "Temptation Inside Your Heart," in February of 1968 at New York's A&R Studios, and "Hey Mr. Rain" at T.T.G. Studios in Los Angeles, in May of 1968.
  • This song was covered by Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth, in the 1994 album Fifteen Minutes: A Tribute to the Velvet Underground.
  • One of the sources of tension within the group was Cale's new girlfriend, designer Betsy Johnson, whom Reed resented interfering with the group's chemistry in a kind of imitation of the way Yoko Ono was said to drive a wedge between the Beatles. Speaking of Yoko Ono, she, too, was active in the New York avant-garde art scene, having been a member of Fluxus, worked with John Cage, and visiting the "art happenings" around the Bohemian sections of town. She was even part of the Theatre of Eternal Music, which also included John Cale, as well as Warhol-era personalities such as La Monte Young and Tony Conrad. So she just missed being a direct part of the Velvet Underground - oh, what might have been?

  • Manic Street Preachers guitarist Richey Edwards wrote the lyrics, marking one of his last contributions to the band. Edwards disappeared in February 1995 and was never found. The band soldiered on without him, not knowing if he was dead or in hiding. Everything Must Go was the first album released in his absence, and it contained five songs he co-wrote.

"Small Black Flowers That Grow In The Sky" empathizes with a zoo animal's state of mind while in captivity, an insight into how Edwards was feeling. Manic's bass player Nicky Wire, who was very close to Edwards, told Dazed & Confused that Edwards wrote the song about "getting born in zoos and just going mad with boredom." Wire added, "But if you read it, you'd just think it was about him."
  • This gentle number is a rare rock song with a harp; it was played by Julie Aliss, who also appeared on the 1987 Siouxsie and the Banshees album Through the Looking Glass.

Warren wrote the song as "The Good S--t," but the title was sanitized for broader appeal. "I got censored by a hardcore rapper, which I find amazingly awesome," she said. Warren told TMZ that she smoked a little weed with Snoop at the session.

In those days, we were lions

Ooh, I will love you better than him [x5]

    All Things All At Once
  • This is the lead single from Tired Pony's second album, The Ghost Of The Mountain. The song was written by frontman Gary Lightbody at 3am after the band had celebrated the conclusion of the recording sessions. He penned the tune from start to finish in the same time it takes to play. It was added the next day when producer Jacknife Lee remarked upon hearing it, "Well, we have to record this."
  • The song features a vocal contribution from Minnie Driver. Best known as an actress in such films as Good Will Hunting, Driver was a member of a band called Puff, Rocks and Brown early in her career. She signed a solo contract with EMI and Rounder Records in 2001, charting in her native UK with two singles. "Everything I've Got in My Pocket" reached #34, "Invisible Girl" peaked at #68.

    Shotgun Willie
  • The tale behind the title of Willie Nelson's Shotgun Willie album is an interesting one. The story goes that Nelson's daughter, Susie, told him that her sister Lana was being abused by her husband, Paul Warren. Nelson drove to Lana's house, where he fought with Warren, and threatened to kill him if he ever hit his daughter again. Soon after Nelson arrived home, Warren arrived in his truck with his brothers and they started to shoot at his house. Nelson and his drummer, Paul English, retaliated with their own rifles, causing the aggressors to surrender and earning Nelson the nickname of 'Shotgun Willie.'
  • Nelson wrote the lyrics for the song that would become the title track whilst sat on the toilet in the bathroom of the hotel that he was staying at whilst recording the album. He scribbled them on the empty packaging of a sanitary napkin.

Sophomore Slump Or Comeback Of The Year Lyrics

Are we growing up or just going down
It's just a matter of time until we're all found out
Take our tears and put them on ice
'Cause I swear I'd burn this city down to show you the light

We're the therapists pumping through your speakers
    Delivering just what you need
    We're well read and poised
    We're the best boys
We're the chemists who've found the formula
To make your heart swell and burst
No matter what they say, don't believe a word

Cause I'll keep singing this lie if you'll keep believing it
    I'll keep singing this lie
    I'll keep singing this lie

Are we growing up or just going down
It's just a matter of time until we're all found out
Take our tears and put them on ice
'Cause I swear I'd burn this city down to show you the light

    We're traveled like gypsies
Only with worse luck and far less gold
The kids you used to love
    But then we grew old
We're the lifers here til the bitter end
    Condemned from the start
    Ashamed of the way
The songs and the words own the beating of our hearts

Are we growing up or just going down
It's just a matter of time until we're all found out
Take our tears and put them on ice
'Cause I swear I'd burn this city down to show you the light

There's a drug in the thermostat to warm the room up
And another around to help us bend your trust
I've got a sunset in my veins
And I need to take a pill to make this town feel okay

The best part of "believe" is the "lie,"
I hope you sing along and you steal a line
I need to keep you like this in my mind
So give in or just give up

The best part of "believe" is the "lie,"
I hope you sing along and you steal a line
I need to keep you like this in my mind
So give in or just give up

Are we growing up or just going down

Are we growing up or just going down

Sophomore Slump Or Comeback Of The Year
  • This song is about growing up in a small town and avoiding the monotonous life of most of the residents. Among the solutions: Burn the town down.
  • Some of the lyrics take the perspective of a successful and gifted band, singer or songwriter: "We're the therapists pumping through your speakers, Delivering just what you need... I hope you sing along and you steal a line." it probably represents a no-name band finally making something of themselves after a hard early career ("We're traveled like gypsies"). The singer also seems to be attempting to draw the attention of a particular girl, or pleading to the masses to listen to his music ("Cause I'll keep singing this lie if you'll keep believing it... I swear I'd burn this city down to show you the light").

    The Crooked Beat Lyrics

Start the car lets make a midnight run
Across the river to South London
To dance to the latest hi-fi sound
    Of bass, guitar and drum
Seeking out a rhythm that can take the pressure off
Stepping in and out of that crooked crooked beat

Take a piece of cloth, a coin for thirst
For the sweat will start to run
With a cymbal splash, a word of truth
And a rocking bass and drum
Seeking out a rhythm that can take the pressure on
Stepping in and out of that crooked crooked beat

So one by one they come on down
From the tower blocks of my home town
Stepping with the rhythm of the rockers beat
Drowning out the pressure of The Crooked Beat
Seeking out a rhythm that can take the tension on
Stepping in and out of that crooked crooked beat

It has crooked past this crooked street
Where cars patrol this crooked beat
    Badges flash and sirens wail
They'll be taking one and all to jail

Prance! Prance! You want a law to dance?

    The Crooked Beat
  • "The Crooked Beat" is often viewed as bassist Paul Simonon's followup to his popular song on the London Calling album, "The Guns Of Brixton." The songs share a South London location in the lyrics and also Simonon's monotone vocals. Both songs were written fully by him.
  • This was one of the very last songs recorded for the Sandinista! album, at Wessex in September 1980. It is rumoured to have been written and recorded quickly in order to both fill space on the huge triple-album, and give Paul Simonon some royalties. Indeed, the track is actually two versions of the same song - the original is then followed back to back by a dub remix by Mikey Dread, the Clash's producer at the time, featuring authentic Trenchtown patois vocals from Dread and an echo-saturated production.
  • The lyrics are inspired by the popular nursery rhyme "There Was A Crooked Man."
  • The song was one of the many more obscure tracks on Sandinista! never to be played live by The Clash, probably because "The Guns of Brixton" was used live as Simonon's signature song (he would swap instruments with singer Joe Strummer, who would play bass while Simonon sang lead vocals).

    Cracked windshield that I super-glued
Crumpled-up cans and a beat up bag of Red Man chew
    Fix-a-flat, Johnny Cash box set
Half a dozen parking tickets that I ain't paid yet
And sittin' on that cloth bench seat
I got my shotgun girl ridin' next to me

    [Chorus]
Four wheels turnin', two hearts burnin'
    We go runnin' wild
    Gonna make a million memories
    For every hundred thousand miles
    Learnin' everything
I'll ever need to know about life and love
In the Cab Of My Truck

    Slidin' rear back window
So it's an easy reach to where my cooler keep 'em iced down cold
    Roll of duct tape, WD-40
Ain't nothin too loose or locked too tight for a man like me
I might take it slow, 30 through town
But on a back dirt road
Girl, I put the hammer down

    [Chorus]

Down by the river, two bodies in the
    Glow of the radio dial
    Gonna make a million memories
    For every hundred thousand miles
    Learnin' everything
I'll ever need to know about life and love
In the cab of my truck

    Deny
  • The song was originally written by guitarist Mick Jones for the London SS, the band which existed just before Joe Strummer joined to form The Clash. It seems to originally have been about denial in all its forms, and could have been aimed at Jones' then-girlfriend whom he had a fractious relationship with; she also inspired "I'm So Bored With You," the original version of the song that would become "I'm So Bored With The USA."

Early Clash guitarist Keith Levene, who left before the group recorded their first album, offered the opinion that "Deny" referred to him, although this is unlikely as it was written and played live while he was still in the group. However it is obvious that the song's subject is a drug addict and the narrator has a severe problem with this.
  • Mick Jones has said in interviews that Pretenders guitarist Chrissie Hynde "probably helped with the end bit." It is also speculated that Jones took influence from the Sex Pistols' similar song of the time, "Liar," which he would've heard from Pistols bassist Glen Matlock.
  • "Deny" was recorded in a semi-live style at the Whitfield studios, the same sessions that produced the single version of "White Riot." It uses the studio trick of fade-in, not commonly used by Rock groups but used by The Beatles on "Eight Days a Week." The rhythm guitar riff is also a distant relative to the Who's "The Kids Are Alright."
  • "Deny" didn't survive for long in the Clash's live set - it was played from their very first gigs in 1976, often as the opening song, and survived up till the White Riot tour in June 1977 before being replaced by newer material.
  • On the recording Joe Strummer can be heard ad-libbing a reference to a "12p comic," which was the price of a Marvel or DC comic in 1977.

    Come A Little Closer baby
I feel like layi'n you down

Where we can work it all out
There ain't nothin' that love can't fix

So come a little closer baby

    Come a little closer baby
    I feel like lettin' go
Of everything that stands between us
And the love we used to know
I want to touch you like a cleansin' rain
And let it wash all the hurt away
So come a little closer baby
    I feel like lettin' go

If there's still a chance then take my hand
    And we'll steal away
Off into the night 'til we make things right

    Come a little closer baby

And what makes the world go 'round

    Gonna be a dirty punk
    While my brother dresses clean
He used to be the local hunk
The girls all ride in my machine(?)

How bout the time I made him drunk

I shout out I am a dirty punk

    Dirty Punk
  • The lyrics are odd, in that the aim for The Clash coming into recording the Cut the Crap album was to take the band back to their 1977 UK Punk roots. The lyrics of "Dirty Punk" are very American-centric, featuring lines such as "rock up your neighborhood," "up your boulevard."

The song talks about a stereotypical dysfunctional suburban American family, including the arguing parents ("I could hear your momma scream, She's gonna waste herself away, When your daddy smashed that TV screen, I understand what he had to say") and the clean-cut hunky brother getting drunk, picking up women and going off the rails ("While my brother dresses clean, He used to be the local hunk, The girls all ride in my machine, How bout the time I made him drunk, And he insult my brotherhood").
  • The music is also oddly US-centric, sounding more like a brash '80s Hair Metal track not unlike the thrashier elements of Def Leppard or Bon Jovi, although most critics cited "Dirty Punk" as one of the few good moments on the Cut the Crap album (which may just be because the rest of the album was so terrible).
  • This song was only performed twice by The Clash, both times in 1984 at the Brixton Miner's Benefit gigs in December of that year.

    Most people don't realize

I Hate Myself And I Want To Die
  • "Runny nose and runny yolk. Even if you have a cold still."

Kurt Cobain was addicted to DXM, along with heroin. "Runny nose and runny yolk" is an image of snorting heroin (heroin when in powder form is yellow) and the "Cold Still" part of the lyric would mean that he was snorting heroin to keep himself from feeling the agonizing physical pain of the DXM withdrawal (for an elaboration on DXM, see the "Pennyroyal Tea" Songfacts).
  • This was released in 1993 on the album The Beavis and Butthead Experience, then released in 1994 on the B-side of the single "Pennyroyal Tea." An alternate version is on Disc 3 of With The Lights Out.
  • Kurt Cobain's last interview was with Rolling Stone magazine on January 27,1994. When the writer asked him, "One of your songs that you cut from In Utero at the last minute was I hate myself and I want to die. How literally did you mean it?" Cobain responded: "As literal as a joke can be. Nothing more than a joke. And that had a bit to do with why we decided to take it off. We knew people wouldn't get it; they'd take it too seriously. It was totally satirical, making fun of ourselves. I'm thought of as this pissy, complaining, freaked out, schizophrenic who wants to kill himself all the time: 'He isn't satisfied with anything.' And I thought it was a funny title. I wanted it to be the title for the album for along time. but I knew the majority wouldn't get it."
  • The song was supposed to be the title to Nirvana's 1993 album. They later chose "In Utero" after bassist Krist Novoselic convinced Cobain to switch, as he feared it could potentially result in a lawsuit.
  • The Oasis hit single "Live Forever" was inspired by this song. The English band's songwriter Noel Gallagher told NME: "Here was a guy who had everything and was miserable about it. We had f--k all, and I still thought getting up in the morning was the greatest f--king ever."
