This song has a hint of jealousy in it. The singer wants to be this girl's boyfriend, but he's not. "I'm just a notch in your bedpost but you're just a line in a song" indicates that he means nothing to her, and he's trying to make it seem like she means the same to him. But it's not working too well. The chorus is about their relationship failing miserably in "an earlier round" because they don't even have a relationship. "I'll be your number one with a bullet, a loaded God complex cock it and pull it" means that she might as well be killing him because he hurts so much.

The name of the album comes from a book about a bull that doesn't fight in the ring, but just sits under the cork tree and smells the sweet fragrance. This used to be a favorite story book of band member Andy Hurley. The title also provides a clever acronym: FUCT.

The lyrics, "I'll be your number one with a bullet" is a play on words. "With a bullet" is a term for when a song is climbing up the music charts at a rapid rate - the Billboard charts would put an image of a bullet next to the song to indicate this. But when you're "number one with a bullet," there is nowhere to go but down.

Fall Out Boy bass player Pete Wentz wrote the lyrics. In 2006, he told Rolling Stone magazine: "I wrote the lyrics in Chicago. I was with my dad, and we were listening to the old music where they'd always say 'sugar' and 'honey' - stuff like that. I was like, 'Why doesn't anyone do that anymore?' Be we really locked it down in California. It was the day before the new Taking Back Sunday record came out. I remember calling those guys to say congrats."

This was Fall Out Boy's breakthrough single, however in a 2009 interview, Wentz told Spin magazine that the record label doubted its potential. He recalled: "That chorus was a throw away. Our label told us the chorus was too wordy and the guitars were too heavy and that the radio wasn't going to play it. I felt so good when that song broke."

Irresistible Song Chart

This sadistic song is about an abusive relationship which the victim finds "irresistible." Bassist Pete Wentz said it reminds him of a scene involving Sex Pistols bassist Sid Vicious and his girlfriend Nancy Spungen in the 1986 biopic Sid & Nancy. "When I think of 'Irresistible' it brings this image to my head, whether it's fictional or real, of Sid and Nancy in an alley garbage raining down on them in an eternal spiral of romance and poison," he explained. "Sometimes it hard not to love what can hurt us the most."

Pete Wentz told Kerrang!: "I'm particularly attracted to people that probably have the ability to hurt me, but hopefully they don't."

Initially released as a promotional single for American Beauty/American Psycho in early 2015, the song was re-released in a remixed version later in the year with additional vocals by Demi Lovato.

The original video, posted in February 2015, shows the band playing a hapless gave of basketball. In January 2016, Fall Out Boy released a new music video for their remix of "Irresistible" featuring Demi Lovato. The clip is a homage to the Toy Story narrative of the *NSYNC clip for "It's Gonna Be Me." In this instance, Fall Out Boy and *NSYNC both exist in the same store as figurine, but the Fall Out Boy dolls are unwanted.

The video is directed by Wayne Isham, the guy who helmed the "It's Gonna Be Me" visual. It features cameos by the boyband's Chris Kirkpatrick (as an assembly line worker) and Joey Fatone (as an employee in the toy store). Lance Bass also tweeted his approval.

The band wrote in a post: "I was looking back at the video for 'It's Gonna Be Me' - where they come to life as dolls - and we thought was there an analog to this story. Like somewhere in that same store was there a dollar bin full of toy that no one really wanted that would band together like the misfit, offbrand little outsiders they were.

The toys no one ever wanted come to life. Where would our band have fit in that story? We called up Wayne Isham, the director who did the original video (as well as some of our other favorite Mötley Crüe and Metlallica videos), and pitched ideas back and forth.

Before long we came with the treatment- and were lucky enough to get a few cameos from the original source; as well as our partner in crime on the song Demi Lovato."

American Beauty/American Psycho Song Chart

The song title covers a lot of pop culture. Both a 1970 Grateful Dead album and an Oscar-winning Kevin Spacey movie have utilized the title of American Beauty, whilst American Psycho is the name of a darkly comic novel about a Wall Street serial killer, which was turned into a film. "Both (American Beauty and American Psycho) depict this obsession with an idea of perfection and imply we might be bad underneath," guitarist Joe Trohman told Billboard magazine.

"I also like the repetition of the word 'American,'" vocalist Patrick Stump added. "What does it mean to be American? I think a lot about how awesome it is here, and how horrible it is, too."

Fall Out Boy hooked up with French musician and producer DJ SebastiAn for this track. "We thought about where this all began but razing it and starting again," the band said of the song's creation. "So we reached out to a kindred spirit in SebastiAn- from the past he mined some of the future. the mission is the heart pure and simple as it can be distilled but never fragmented or disguised. through these experiments, that were sometimes lost in translation, we persevered - 'they tried to bury us but they didn't realize we were seeds.'"

This samples Motley Crüe's song "Too Fast for Love," which was the title track of their 1981 debut album.

Patrick Stump tweeted that is his favorite track from American Beauty/American Psycho, saying, "It's the right level of artistically interesting, but also just fun."

Bassist Pete Wentz told HMV.com that the album almost had a couple of different titles. "It was a bit of a struggle, this record is a lot more about modern romance than the last one, but the singles are called 'Centuries' and 'Immortals,'" he explained. "I think we started talking about thresholds, the idea that everyone has a dark side and a light side within them and what makes that change in our culture. The movies are good references and good book-ends, we try and point fans to things we like. Also it rolls off the tongue quite nicely."

So who's the face-painted kid on the album cover? It's 13-year-old actor Jake Karlen and the shoot was done in a Los Angeles rented home. Jake told MTV News that it was the band who came up with the face paint concept. "They explained it to me and said they'd put it on my hand first and then my face afterwards," he recalled. "They wanted to see something very dark and angry, very angry. I think I pulled it off. I think I did pretty good."

American Beauty/American Psycho sold 218,000 copies in the US in its first seven days, landing Fall Out Boy at #1 on the Billboard 200. It was the band's best sales week since 2007.

Wentz told Rolling Stone that when the band were making the album, a tweet from the magazine's writer Brian Hiatt stayed in their heads. "He said that modern rock music isn't modern," said Wentz. "That was a big inspiration for when we were talking with this French DJ sebastiAn about creating something that was like a throwback, but from the future. It's like modern rock of the future. I'm not sure that's even what it is, but it is something strange."

The Kids Aren't Alright Song Chart

The song title comes from The Who's 1979 concert documentary called The Kids Are Alright. It is not a reference to The Offspring's 1998 single of the same name. Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz told Kerrang!: "I'm not super familiar with The Offspring, although Dexter (Holland, singer) was in a dream of mine the other night where he flew his plane and picked us up. As much as saying the kids aren't all right, it's when we were the kids."

Pete Wentz told Rock Genius regarding the "Don't you know that the kids aren't al-, kids aren't alright," hook. "The reference here is all over the place. Just I guess the point is - you don't have to be alright all the time. It's OK to get down. The world has this expectation of perfection sometimes. I personally align myself against it."

Wentz wrote the "Overhead of the aqua blue" line one time when the band were landing in Southern California. Asked by HMV.com how he writes the lyrics, he replied: "Sometimes I write in interviews, or when I'm driving. I try to remember key words, and then I take voice notes. Sometimes it's on planes or in hotel rooms, but if I sat down to write it never happens, that and when I'm with my kids, can't do it then. It's weird, it somehow used to be more effort and yet more effortless. Sometimes I have so much, but not this time, this time I said to Patrick (Stump, vocals) 'Patrick, use it all, there is no more.'"

Immortals Song Chart

This motivational track features in the 2014 Walt Disney Animation Studios film Big Hero 6, which is based on the Marvel team of comic superheroes. An alternative version is featured on the American Beauty/American Psycho album.

Fall Out Boy was tapped to write and perform the song by Disney for the film's sequence in which the Big Hero 6 team is transformed from a group of super smart individuals to a band of high-tech heroes "The idea of this kid stepping up on behalf of his brother is what inspired the song's title 'Immortals,'" vocalist Patrick Stump said. "Your victories aren't exclusively yours, so the fact that all of these people are coming together to help him get to the finish line is really exciting."

"They're testing out their new super suits for the first time in the scene," added bassist and lyricist Pete Wentz. "Some of it works - some of it doesn't. You get the sense that they're stepping into a bigger role."
