This is the opening track and lead single of the band's fourth album Never Too Loud. It was produced by Grammy award winning record producer Nick Raskulinecz, known for his work with Foo Fighters, Velvet Revolver, and Evanescence.

The Seattle Punk band Zeke was a big influence on this track. In our 2013 interview with lead singer and guitarist Danko Jones , he said: "I'm a huge fan of Zeke, and Zeke is known for writing these über ultra fast fast Punk Rock songs, done in ten seconds flat. But when they slow down, they can give Motörhead a run for their money, when Motörhead slows down. I think Motörhead are the heaviest band in the world. Same with Zeke. Same riffage, but slowed down a bit, which is other bands' versions of being real fast. So I wanted to write that kind of mid tempo Motörhead/Zeke kind of song. So that's what that main riff is, just the chugging part."

He added: "It was a pretty easy song to write. There was really nothing except the pre-chorus that took a while to get together. I think we fixed the song in the studio because the pre-chorus wasn't happening. That was about it. Other than that, it pretty much wrote itself. Lyrically it's about touring."

In a 2009 interview with Music Vice, Jones defined the "code of the road" as "playing hard, delivering the goods every night... all that sex and drugs stuff happens, but we're just happy to be playing. When we wrote the record we'd just come off of tour and a lot of the songs reflect that time of constant touring."

According to the January 21, 1961 issue of Melody Maker, Apollo Music will publish "Little Soldier Say Goodnight" which was written by Lionel Bart and the pianist Russ Conway for Max Bygraves.

This was from a play Why The Chicken? which was directed by Bart. It turned out to be less of a chicken than a turkey, and sank without trace, but Bart soon had a hit with Oliver! at the same time, among others. Unfortunately he ended up blowing all his money on cocaine and extravagant living. He sold the rights of his hit show to Bygraves for £350, who resold them for a quarter of a million!

This was originally a hit for Martha & the Vandellas in 1964. Bowie and Jagger covered it for the Live Aid charity at the insistence of Bob Geldof, who also put together the "Do They Know It's Christmas?" single. Bowie and Jagger's cover features some lyrical changes. Their version begins with an announcement to the world (to reflect the universality of the charity's message): "OK, Tokyo South America, Australia, France, Germany, UK, Africa!" They also slip in a reference to The Beatles' track, "Back In The U.S.S.R".

Bowie and Jagger recorded this song in just four hours. In 2007, Mick Jagger toldRolling Stone: "We banged it out in just two takes. It was an interesting exercise in how you can do something without worrying too much."

The producer Clive Langer told 1000 UK #1 Hits : "We were working on 'Absolute Beginners' with Bowie. We were doing the backing track and David said, 'Do you mind if we do a charity single tonight?' I said, not at all, we'll help you. David said, 'Mick will be coming down.' Mick came into the studio and was twiddling his arms around and everything and we knocked the backing track down. We recorded most of it. I think they did the horns in America and somebody else mixed it. It was nice of David to put our names on it because it was really produced by a lot of people."

Bowie's musicians performed on the track. One of them was drummer, Neil Conti, who told 1000 UK #1 Hits: "It was a huge ego trip for Mick, he kept trying to upstage David."

When recording wrapped up at Abbey Studios, Bowie and Jagger headed straight to the London Docklands to film the song's official video, which has since become somewhat infamous for its cheesy choreography. This video was shown twice during the UK Live aid concert on July 13, 1985.

Bowie and Jagger had originally planned to perform the song together at the 1985 Live Aid concerts via a satellite link-up, with Bowie performing at Wembley Stadium in London and Jagger at John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia. It was later realized the satellite link-up would cause a delay that would make the performance impossible unless Bowie or Jagger mimed, which neither was willing to do.

Bass player John Regan contributed to this track. He talked about the experience in a Songfacts interview : "That song had long been favorite of mine, but when I arrived at the studio to find Mick Jagger greeting me, it was something I will never forget. My most vivid memory of that day was that it happened to be one of those rare occasions that the part that made the final recording was a first take for me, but as I was laying down the bass track I could see Mick dancing around the studio, just getting into the music as if he were onstage. Powerful moment in time for me, and it hit home how much Jagger was moved by the power of the song, and how sincere his love of music must be."

Destiny's Child is saying that if you are not from the hood and you have no money, then they're not going to talk to you. Apparently, they also want someone with plenty of "Manhood": "You got to carry big things if you know what I mean..."

T.I. and Lil Wayne both perform on this track. Both rappers were on the verge of breakout success and were topping the charts a few years later.

The Ray Kay directed music video has the concept of each Destiny's Child member giving tips on the type of men that turn their heads. Beyoncé sings that she likes "Boys up top from the BK," which is a reference to Brooklyn where Jay-Z comes from. It was the first public mention of their relationship.

Drake teamed up with Big Sean and 2 Chainz for this Nothing Was the Same track. The song begins with sampled dialogue from comedian and actor Aziz Ansari's Funny People clueless character Randy Springs. We then hear 2 Chainz, Drake and Big Sean each in turn bragging of their lifestyles, whilst The Toronto MC takes on the hook himself.

This very psychedelic song is a nod to the divine, conjuring up images of nature's colors and invoking both God and Allah. Heavy stuff.

In our interview with Donovan , we asked how he came up with the vibrant images that appear in the lyric. Lines like:

Donovan explained that like many great songwriters - Joni Mitchell, John Lennon, Bob Dylan among them - he dabbled in art and thought in terms of paintings. This song is an example of translating images on a canvas into words. "'Wear Your Love Like Heaven' was really a paint-ily song - watching a sunset go down," he said.

This song was used in the Simpsons episode "Weekend at Bernsie's" when Homer is partaking in Medicinal Marijuana.

Let's Dance

This song is about (rather unsurprisingly) dancing with a lover. It is the title track to Let's Dance, which was produced by Nile Rodgers, who was responsible for the album's funky sound. Rodgers founded the disco band, Chic, and produced hits for Diana Ross, including "Upside Down" and "I'm Coming Out." He also produced Madonna's 1985 album Like a Virgin.

Stevie Ray Vaughan played lead guitar on this song. Bowie was impressed when he saw Vaughan perform at the Montreaux Jazz festival a year earlier. When Vaughan received the call from Bowie to play on the record, he was (although not literally) in the middle of recording his own album, Texas Flood.

This was Bowie's only transatlantic #1, a very upbeat song with mass appeal. He described it as "positive, emotional and uplifting." Said Bowie: "I tried to produce something that was warmer and more humanistic than anything I've done for a long time. Less emphasis on the nihilistic kind of statement."

The official video was directed by David Mallet. It was filmed in Australia and features an Aboriginal couple who are struggling against Western cultural imperialism. The video was described by Bowie as a "very simple, very direct" statement against racism.

According to Mallet, they shot the bar scenes in the morning, which didn't go over well with the locals, who didn't appreciate Bowie and fashionable crew. Some of the patrons also resented the Aborigines who starred in the clip, and mocked them with their own dance moves. Mallet shot this on film and edited it into the video - the white people dancing in the bar were actually making fun of the couple.

Red Shoes are a theme in the video and appear in the lyrics, "Put on your red shoes and dance the blues." This is a reference to the 1948 movie The Red Shoes, where a dancer performs in a ballet of that name. The idea is that the red shoes make you dance - it's based on a Hans Christian Andersen story of the same title. Kate Bush recorded a song about the same subject.

The tour to support this album was called the "Serious Moonlight Tour," named after a line in this song: "Under the moonlight, the serious moonlight."

Originally slated just for Europe, the tour was so successful that it was expanded to North America, Asia and Australia, often in large stadiums.

Smashing Pumpkins covered this song in 1998 along with Joy Division's "Transmission" during a 25 minute live jam.

Nile Rodgers said of this song in the 2013 film Davie Bowie: 5 Years in the Making of an Icon: "'Let's Dance' is not what I'd call a traditional dance record, but it's certainly a record that does make you want to dance. I thought to myself, 'Man, if I don't make a record that makes people want to dance, and we call the song Let's Dance, I'm going to have to trade in my black union card.'"

Nile Rodgers recalled to The Guardian May 18, 2012: "When Bowie and I got together to do Let's Dance, we spent two weeks researching music and styles and Bowie suddenly said: 'I got it!' He held up a Little Richard album cover where he's wearing a red suit, getting into a red Cadillac, with a pompadour haircut, and said: 'That's rock'n'roll.' After doing all that research with him, I got it too. I knew instantly what he wanted. We switched the suit for a yellow one when we released our record."

Speaking with the Daily Telegraph July 30, 2013, Nile Rodgers recalled Bowie unveiling this song to him. "He says, 'Nile, darling, I think this is a hit,' and he proceeds to play what sounds like a folk song to me, with a twelve-string guitar," recalled the producer. Unable to tell Bowie that what he was playing was not dance music, Rodgers wrote an entire arrangement, taking it in "a funky direction." Said Rodgers: "I was like the Terminator, I was unstoppable, I just wanted to make hits with David."

The second single from Drake's Nothing Was the Same album is a Noah "40" Shebib co-produced cut, which finds the Toronto MC singing about a "good girl" whom he attempts to seduce.

"It's me and 40 just channeling our Quincy Jones/Michael Jackson production duo," Drake told MTV News. "Obviously no offense to the greats, I know we're not anywhere near that — it's just us kinda doing our thing, humbly attempting."
"It's not a rap record," he added. "It's not 'Versace,' it's not 'Started from the Bottom.' In approaching this album I was like man, it would be great if we had a record that was played at weddings in 10 years or that people that are away from their families in the army could listen to. Something that just [has] timeless writing, timeless melody."

The song features a group called Majid Jordan, who are signed to Drake's OVO Sound label. The act is a pair of Toronto producers, Majid Al Maskati and Jordan "ClassAct" Ullman, who were formerly known as Good People.

The song's music video takes place in 1985 Miami and was directed by Bill Pope, who also worked on The Matrix trilogy. It finds Drake playing a criminal kingpin who gets his lover kidnapped by a rival gang and does everything in his power to get his girl back home. Actor Steven Baauer (Scarface) plays the bad guy, whilst rapper A$AP Rocky gives the opening toast. "Basically it's a video full of acting because I'm dying to get back into acting," Drake told MTV News. "So there's actually no performance in the video."

"I based it off of some of the old Michael Jackson videos like Moonwalker," he added, "so it's sort of exciting, violent a little and scary a little, but it's great."

Drake revealed to Jian Ghomeshi of CBC Radio that he knocked out this song in about two hours.

This was Pitchfork 's Top Track of 2013. The alternative music website said: "'Hold On' promises all we can ask for from a pop song (or another person): hot love and emotion, for richer or poorer, for better or worse, in sickness and in health. Endlessly."

A version by The Voice Season 6 contestant Christina Grimme peaked at #74 on the Hot 100.

Despite being a R&B song, this won a VMA for Best Hip-Hop Video of the Year. Drake gave a acceptance speech during a Boston concert, in which jokingly commented on the oddity of his win. "I know this is a hip-hop award and a lot of you out there are frustrated, like, 'This is not a hip-hop song.' And you know what? You're right -- I tricked you all," he laughed. "Rappers, better luck next year. Thank you."

The Jonas & François directed video features Dominique leading a costumed gang of disreputable superheroes in New York. The scenes of mayhem they create is in keeping with the spirit of the Kiss Ass 2 movie. Discussing the clip with Digital Spy , Fresh said: "It's the first music video I've actually appeared in, so it was really good fun. I had to act - which sounds ridiculous as it's a two-second clip of me standing up! This was a pretty big video for me as we're starting to move in America, also because it was with Diplo and the director was incredible."

American rapper Angel Haze was originally supposed to be on the track. DJ Fresh recalled to Digital Spy : "What happened was Diplo sent it to Angel Haze to potentially rap on, then she took it as an opportunity to rap over it for five minutes about how much she hates Azealia Banks and put it out as a free download on her SoundCloud. We decided to change it after that!"

Nuthin' But A G Thang

This is a gangsta rap classic dealing with the lifestyle of music, money and violence (the "G" stands for "Gangsta"). Rap was rapidly evolving in the '80s and early '90s, and while many older Rap songs tend to sound dated, this remains popular and is a favorite at parties and clubs.

This song was the first appearance of Snoop Doggy Dogg on a major release where he was a featured vocalist. Snoop would become a superstar in his own right when his solo album (produced by Dre) came out the following year.

A rapper named The D.O.C. is referenced in the line: "Like my ni--a D.O.C., no one can do it better." "No One Can Do It Better" was the name of The D.O.C.'s album - an album that just happened to have been produced by Dr. Dre.

This was a crucial single for Dre. Its success proved he could stand apart from his former hip-hop group, the groundbreaking and often controversial N.W.A.

Dre directed the music video for this song, which follows the rapper and his pal Snoop Dogg during their hijinks at a block party in Long Beach, California.

Kriss Kross - the guys who made us "jump, jump" - sampled this on their 1993 single "I'm Real." Rapper Ja Rule also sampled it on his 2001 single "Livin' It Up."

This was used in the 2003 action movie Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, starring Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu. It was also featured in the 2006 romantic comedy Failure to Launch, starring Matthew McConaughey and Sarah Jessica Parker.

Snoop references Death Row Records in the lyrics ("Death Row is the label that pays me"), Dre's new label founded by his friend and former bodyguard, Suge Knight. Knight allegedly secured Dre's release from Eazy-E's Ruthless Records by holding co-founder Jerry Heller hostage in the back of a van and, to really drive the point home, threatening Eazy's mother. Dre would eventually start his own label, Aftermath Records, in 1996, which would sign the likes of Eminem, 50 Cent, and Kendrick Lamar.

This song channels the '70s with a funky sample of Leon Haywood's 1975 hit, "I Want'a Do Something Freaky to You."

Gotta Get Thru This

Bedingfield was inspired to write this while walking across Tower Bridge in London frustrated at being separated from a girl he was in love with from Leeds, in the north of England. The girl was a red haired American dancer named Gina, and he was upset that the distance between them was preventing him from pursuing her. Bedingfield went home and recorded this in his bedroom with a microphone plugged to his home computer using a Making Waves computer audio program.

The total cost of the recording was 1,500 pounds, and after pressing some of his own copies of the song, Bedingfield sent them to various DJs, and DJ EZ included it on a compilation. After hearing it, Polydor signed him the song became a big hit.
