Neon Light Lyrics

Ever since you left me I've been ridin' 'round
Crankin' up a little country gold heartbreak
Cried and dried these tears I don't know how
Much more missin' you I can take
I pray pray prayed, for a sign sign sign
Now there it is in the window
It's about time, damn time

There’s a Neon Light at the end of the tunnel
It ain’t all that bright, but even though it’s subtle
It’s got me feeling alright, go on and make it a double
There’s a neon light at the end of the tunnel, tunnel, tunnel

I take a shot of 'I don't care what you doing now'
Chase that one with a cold 'Screw you'
When that's done, I just might wash it down
With a big pitcher of 'Someone new'
That blond blonde blonde
At the bar bar bar
See if she wants to try and unbreak my heart heart heart

There’s a neon light at the end of the tunnel
It ain’t all that bright, but even though it’s subtle
It’s got me feeling alright, go on and make it a double
There’s a neon light at the end of the tunnel, tunnel, tunnel

When we were together
I thought life was set forever
Even though I knew better that the pain would never end
They say the night's darkest just before the dawn gets kissed
By the daybreak got down on my knees and I
Prayed, prayed, prayed, for a sign, sign, sign
Now there it is in the window
It's about time, damn time

There’s a neon light at the end of the tunnel
It ain’t all that bright, but even though it’s subtle
It’s got me feeling alright, go on and make it a double
There’s a neon light at the end of the tunnel, tunnel, tunnel

Neon Light Song Chart
  • This bluesy jam finds Blake Shelton beginning to find light at the end of the tunnel as he strives to forget a bad relationship.

There's a neon light at the end of the tunnel
It ain't all that bright, but even though it's subtle
It's got me feeling alright, go on and make it a double
There's a neon light at the end of the tunnel
  • The song was written by Andrew Dorff (Hunter Hayes' "Somebody's Heartbreak"), Mark Irwin (Tim McGraw & Taylor Swift's "Highway Don't Care") and Josh Kear (Lady Antebellum's "Need You Now").
  • This was released as the lead single from Blake Shelton's Bringing Back the Sunshine album. He said said that the disc, "has elements of things you hear on the radio now, but I think it's more of a throwback to some of those earlier albums I made with [producer] Bobby Braddock, as far as the lyrical content and even the melodies."

Shelton described this first taster of the album as owning a "straight up George Strait, George Jones or Conway Twitty sounding chorus, mixed with the more recent stuff that I have recorded."
  • This was Blake Shelton's 13th consecutive single to reach the summit on the Billboard Country Airplay chart. It made him the artist with the most consecutive #1 songs on the tally since the beginning of monitored airplay in January 1990.

    Sangria Lyrics

You're crashin' into me like waves on the coast
Every time we talk, you move in close
I don't want you stop, I don't want you to stop tonight
We've got the last two glasses on a straw hook bar
Tryin' to remember what number we are
String of white lights making your eyes shine tonight

We're buzzing like that no vacancy sign out front
Your skin is begging to be kissed by a little more than the sun
You take my hand in yours, you lean in and
    Your lips taste like Sangria
    Your lips taste like sangria

Wreckin' ball dancin' down the hallway
You're holding your shoes, wearing my shades
We fall against the door, we fall into a wild warm kiss

We're buzzing like that no vacancy sign out front
Your skin is begging to be kissed by a little more than the sun
You take my hand in yours, you lean in and
    Your lips taste like sangria
    Your lips taste like sangria

Only thing I want to do tonight
Is drink you like a Spanish wine
Let you let this head of mine keep spinning, spinning around

We're buzzing like that no vacancy sign out front
Your skin is begging to be kissed by a little more than the sun
You take my hand in yours, you lean in and
    Your lips taste like sangria
    Your lips taste like sangria

    Your lips taste like sangria
    Your lips taste like sangria

    Oh

Only thing I want to do tonight
Is drink you like a Spanish wine
Let you let this head of mine keep spinning, spinning around

    Sangria Song Chart
  • According to Shelton, this JT Harding, Josh Osborne and Trevor Rosen penned cut is "one of the sexiest songs" he's ever recorded. "It sounds like something that came from a different time," he said, "almost like something Chris Isaak would have had on one of his records at some point."

"It's just about one of those nights where you drink too much and you're gonna end up hookin' up with this person, it's just inevitable," he added. "It's not too over the top, but it's pure sex, that's the only way I know to describe that song."
  • Sangria is an alcoholic beverage from Spain and Portugal. It normally consists of wine, chopped fruit, a sweetener, and a small amount of added brandy. Any other references to the tipple in popular music come to mind? How about Lou Reed's opening lyric from "Perfect Day."

    Just a perfect day
    Drink Sangria in the park
  • The song's music video was filmed at Miranda Lambert's bed and breakfast, The Ladysmith, in the couple's adopted hometown of Tishomingo, Oklahoma.
  • According to Rosen, who is also a guitarist and keyboardist for the country band Old Dominion, co-writer Osborne originally intended this for Sara Evans but it wasn't quite right. Rosen told Entertainment Weekly: "So he had that title he was like, 'I was imagining this with a girl singing, but what if it was a guy saying, 'Your lips taste like sangria?' And we just sort of found that groove - we were going for Chris Isaak kind of sexy groove and I started playing that sort of Spanish-y kind of riff and it took off."

"[And] It's funny, you might think a song is so right for someone and, inevitably, they never cut it. When they said Blake had this one on hold I was like, 'Alright, that would be cool' but he wasn’t the first person I thought of, but now it's impossible not to think of Blake for it. He made it his."

    Just South of Heaven Lyrics

I never liked the taste of whiskey til I kissed it off of her lips
Never knew just what was hitting me, getting me tipsy
But there I sit, Levi's on a dogwood branch
Yeah, she was taking me under
I might have lost my innocence
But she was saving my soul that summer

I don't know much about eternity
Or where somebody like me's gonna wind up going
All I know is that I have already been
Parked in a Chevy by the deep river rolling
And that summer night, shooting star paradise
Might be all that I'm getting
Kissing and sipping that seven and seven
    Somewhere Just South of Heaven

She might have been a fallen angel
Nah, I didn't care at all
I never thought a prayer could be answered
With a whispered, sweet southern drawl
Even now when I close my eyes
I see her silhouette dance on the river
The way we spent those endless nights
That's the way I could spend forever

I don't know much about eternity
Or where somebody like me's gonna wind up going
All I know is that I have already been
Parked in a Chevy by the deep river rolling
And that summer night, shooting star paradise
Might be all that I'm getting
Kissing and sipping that seven and seven
    Somewhere just south of heaven

Somewhere just beyond the Jericho line
Little white church, roll back through the pines
Down where the Three Cross river unwinds
If there's a heaven on Earth, man that'd be mine

I don't know much about eternity
Or where somebody like me's gonna wind up going
All I know is that I have already been
Parked in a Chevy by the deep river rolling
And that summer night, shooting star paradise
Might be all that I'm getting
Kissing and sipping that seven and seven
    Somewhere just south of heaven

Oh yeah, just south of heaven

Somewhere just beyond the Jericho line
Little white church, roll back through the pines
Down where the Three Cross river unwinds
If there's a heaven on Earth, man that'd be mine

    Yeah, that'd be mine
Oh, just a little bit south of heaven, mmm yeah

  • This ballad is one of three vastly different tracks on Bringing Back the Sunshine co-written by Craig Wiseman. The Nashville songwriter's previous Blake Shelton credits include the hit single "Hillbilly Bone."

"The way Craig Wiseman can write a song blows my mind," Shelton marveled. "He can not only put you in that moment, but in that person's brain and what they're feeling."

"'South Of Heaven'" definitely takes me back to high school, or even a little after high school, those moments that just seem magical, whenever you had that girl and you went back-roadin', or whatever your particular version is," he added. "We all have a version of it - that song definitely takes me there."

    Good Country Song Lyrics

    Shotgun in my daddy's truck
Eight years old and acting tough
He smiled at me and said, "You shift the gears"
He would search that FM dial
And I would count down every mile
Til the station out of Tulsa came in clear
It was old Thomas Conley on the radio
It punched me in the gut, man, it rattled my soul

I'm talking about a Good Country Song
Makes you smile, makes you hurt
Leaves you hanging on every word
    A good country song
Makes you love, makes you leave
Raise some hell or hit your knees
All I know is I think of home
Grab my guitar and strum along
Kick on back and sip me something strong
When I hear a good country song

While hip-hop, rap, and rock were cool
I was in my basement getting schooled
On George and Keith and Vernon and Alabama
I was learning bout those neon lights
    Wasted days and wasted nights
And honky-tonks from Texas to Montana
And when my fingers found the fret board
I close my eyes and sing
I swear that beat up guitar only played one thing

I'm talking bout a good country song
Makes you smile, makes you hurt
Leaves you hanging on every word
    A good country song
Makes you love, makes you leave
Raise some hell or hit your knees
All I know is I think of home
Grab my guitar and strum along
Kick on back and sip me something strong
When I hear a good country song

Yeah, it makes me think of days long gone
Miss my dad and call my mom
Cry, and laugh, and pray, and drink til dawn
When I hear a good country
A good old country, a good country song

  • This nostalgic song name-checks Shelton's country hero, Earl Thomas Conley. The songwriters (Jessi Alexander, Tommy James and Matt Jenkins) wrote it with the Nashville star in mind and referenced Conley to seal the deal. Shelton said: "Jessi Alexander is a great friend of mine, and she got in touch with me when she heard we were cutting tracks and said she wanted to write something for me."

"When I heard the lyric, it was almost as if she grew up in the same house I grew up in, from shifting the gears in my dad's truck to listening to Earl Thomas Conley on a station out of Tulsa," he added. "There has never been a more accurate song about me that I have recorded."
