Drugs Or Me Lyrics

Stay with me
You're the one that I need
You make the hardest things
Seem easy

Keep my heart
Somewhere drugs don't go
Were the sun shines lay
Always keep me close

If only you could see
The stranger next to me
You promised you promised that you're done
But i can't tell you from the drugs

Don't let go
Dig a great big hole
Down an endless hole
We'll both go

You're so blind
You can't see me this time
Hope comes from inside
And I feel so low tonight

If only you could see
The stranger next to me
You promised you promised that you're done
But I can't tell you from the drugs

I wish you could see
This face in front of me
you're sorry swear it you're done
But I can't tell you from the drugs

(Oh)
(Oh)

(Take me) I need your help
(So far away) To pull me up take the pain
(Take me) Out from me
(So far away) Out from me

(Take me) If only you could see (I need your help)
(So far away) The stranger next to me (To pull me up take the pain)
(Take me) You promised you promised that you're done (Out from me)
(So far away) But I can't tell you from the drugs (Out from me)

(Take me) I wish that you could see (I need your help)
(So far away) This face in front of me (To pull me up take the pain)
(Take me) You're sorry you swear it you're done (Out from me)
(So far away) But I can't tell you from the drugs (Out from me)

Keep my heart
Somewhere drugs don't go
Where the sun shines low
always keep me close

Drugs Or Me
  • This song is about how addiction to drugs effects a relationship when one person is hooked and the other isn't. One person promises to quit but doesn't, and the the other is left to find the one he loves in this drug addict ("'Cause right now I can't tell you from the drug...").

    Work Lyrics

If you only once would let me
    Only just one time
Then be happy with the consequence
    With whatever's gonna happen tonight
    Don't think we're not serious
    When's it ever not
The love we make is give and it's take
    I'm game to play along

All I can say I should say
    Can we take a ride?
Get out of this place while we still have time

The best DJs are saving their slowest song for last
When the dance is through it's me and you
Come on, would it really be so bad
The things we think may be the same
But I won't fight for more
It's just not me to wear it on my sleeve
    Count on that for sure

All I can say I should have said
    Can we take a ride?
Get out of this place while we still have time
You want to take a ride?
Get out of this place while we still have time
    We still have time

Can't say I was never wrong
But some blame rests on you
Work and play they're never okay to mix
    The way we do

All I can say I should have said
    Can we take a ride?
Get out of this place while we still have time
You want to take a ride?
Get out of this place while we still have time
    We still have time

    Work
  • In this coming-of-age song, Jimmy Eat World frontman Jim Adkins makes his case to a girl, asking her to ride off with him. It's very "Thunder Road" in its sentiment of escaping the confines of where you grew up and seeking something more, replete with romantic intent.
  • This features backing vocals by alt-rocker Liz Phair. Jim Adkins told Phoenix New Times: "There was something about 'Work' that reminded me of Liz Phair. Don't know exactly what it was. I always think it's interesting to hear male and female voices contributing to complex relationship type songs. Our A&R person had a connection with her, so I figured why not just ask Liz Phair to sing with us. She was into it. So in a couple days, we had Liz Phair in the studio in L.A. where we were working doing backups."
  • The music video, directed by Marc Webb, was filmed at Madison West High School in Madison, Wisconsin. Through interviews, the students share their fears about life after graduation.
