Amerika

The entire song consists of sarcastic lyrics that act as a commentary of America and how it rules all other countries. "When we dance I want to lead" (translated) shows how America commands others to do the same as them.

The video goes along with the song lyrics and shows people from countries across the world, including Africa, India and the Antarctic, all interacting with American-made products. A boy takes off his Nike sneakers to pray, an Indian family crouch on the grass to watch TV and eat pizza. The most notable reference is the band themselves performing in space-suits and attempting to prop an American flag up on a set made up to resemble the moon. A clear reference at the infamous theory that the moon-landing was faked. (thanks, Jay - Reading, England, for above 2)

Part of the song is about how America does not care about things and they just pay people to make them happy. In the video, Africans and Indians, who often are considered poor and starving, are watching TV, eating pizza and drinking Coca-Cola. Also, the lyrics are about how money is used for entertainment rather than helping the poor: "Music is coming from the white house and Mickey Mouse is standing in front of Paris" (meaning Disneyland). Du Hast

Although the German phrase does not translate to English, "Du hast" can mean "you have," but it can also mean "you hate." Therefore the song has two meanings. One being sort of "You hate me but still want to marry me" (the song is about marriage) and the other being "You want to marry me but I don't want to." (thanks, Oscar - Stockholm, Sweden)

There is another sort of double meaning here. If the line is read as "Tod der Scheide" it would be "until the death of the vagina" and not "until death, which would separate" ("Tod, der scheide"). The whole song is a play on German wedding vows (Wollen Sie einander lieben und achten und die Treue halten bis dass der Tod euch scheidet? - Do you want to love and respect each other and to remain faithful, until death separates you?). Instead of answering with "Ja," Till says "Nein," finally answering the question he said nothing to in the beginning. (thanks, Jason - Elko, NV)

"Hast" is a conjugation of the base form "haben" which means "to have." To hate, would be the verb "hassen" which would be conjugated as "Du hasst mich" (you hate me). Though they are similar they are not homophones in that the S sounds in "hasst" for "hate" would be stressed a little more then it would in "hast" for "have." This is confirmed when Till says, "Du hast mich gefragt und ich hab nights gesagt," which literally means "You have asked me and I have said nothing. "Hast" is used as the "haben" helper verb for the past participle "gefragt," of which its base form is "fragen," which means "to ask." (thanks, Scott - Vincennes, IN)

Laichzeit

This, like most Rammstein songs, is about sex. The protagonist, "Der Fisch," is supposed to represent man's inner desire to reproduce through... sex. We all have this longing, no matter how much we try to hide it by acting "civilized." At the end of the song all the people "Der Fisch" screwed around with don't want him anymore, which shows that it was all senseless and without deep purpose. The point is that deep down we are all animals in a way, and sex isn't something necessarily "noble" at all. (thanks, Roc - Houston, TX)

Mutter

"Mutter" is German for "Mother." It's a dark song reminiscent of the movie The Matrix, where everybody is grown genetically, as the lyrics deal with someone who does not have a mother, and was never nurtured like a normal human. (thanks, alex - munich, Germany)
