Reach Out Richard Lyrics

Richard, hello, I know it's 4am on New Years Day
I never made it home last night, alright
A minor so they dropped the charge and I'll be out today
I know that that won't make it right
It's never black and white but

Richard you taught me all I need to know
But there's some things you can't prepare for
All I ever wanna do
Is be as good a man as you

So don't you be concerned
(The kid's alright)
I gotta live and learn
(The kid's alright)
I know that you will see
(The kid's alright)
I'll find my way eventually

Richard, your tears fall on the wheel as you wipe them away
I've never seen you so far gone, along
The snow is tumbling, as you're wondering what you didn't say
When I'm the one who got it wrong
I tried to keep you calm cause

Richard you showed me what was wrong and right
But now I gotta live my own life
I will fall along the way
But I'll remember what you say

So don't you be concerned
(The kid's alright)
I gotta live and learn
(The kid's alright)
I know that you will see
(The kid's alright)
I'll find my way eventually

Woah woah
Reach out, Richard
Woah woah
Reach out

I know you see yourself inside my eyes
Richard don't worry 'cause the kid's alright
I gotta live and learn

Richard you barely made it out of school
But look at everything you been through
Apples fall right from the tree
As long as you are here for me

I'll never be concerned
(The kid's alright)
I gotta live and learn
(The kid's alright)
I know that you will see
(The kid's alright)
I'll find my way eventually

So don't you be concerned
(The kid's alright)
I gotta live and learn
(The kid's alright)
I know that you will see
(The kid's alright)
I'll find my way eventually

(The kid's alright)

Reach Out Richard
  • Hawthorne sings about his father on this Pharrell Williams produced track. He described it to Radio.com as "by far the hardest song [I've] ever had to write." Hawthorne added: "I have to thank Pharrell Williams for pushing me to get the whole story out. That was a toughie for me. It's a very emotional story. Richard is my dad. I still tear up thinking about that song sometimes, it's a tough one. It was so close to me that I didn't even know if I could put it on the album. Pharrell called me every day and said, 'You have to put that song on the album.' I caved and put it on there and I'm glad I did."
