Walk Right Back Lyrics

I want you to tell me why you walked out on me
I'm so lonesome every day
I want you to know that since you walked out on me
Nothing seems to be the same old way

Think about the love that burns within my heart for you
The good times we had before you went away, oh please
Walk Right Back to me this minute
Bring your love to me, don't send it
I'm so lonesome every day

I want you to tell me why you walked out on me
I'm so lonesome every day
I want you to know that since you walked out on me
Nothing seems to be the same old way

Think about the love that burns within my heart for you
The good times we had before you went away from me
Walk right back to me this minute
Bring your love to me, don't send it
I'm so lonesome every day

I'm so lonesome every day
I'm so lonesome every day

Walk Right Back
  • Sonny Curtis, of Buddy Holly's Crickets, wrote this song while in the army and showed it to The Everly Brothers when he was home on leave. They liked it and said they'd record it. Sonny said, "It's not finished. I'll write the second verse and send it to you." The Everlys didn't receive it in time so they just sang the first verse twice on the recording. Very few people know the second verse. Roger Miller must have liked the song because he wrote his "Engine, Engine Number Nine" right on top of it. You can sing the two at the same time.
  • The second verse lyrics are: "These eyes of mine that gave you loving glances once before... changed to shades of cloudy gray. I want so very much to see you... just like before. I've got to know you're coming back to stay. Please believe me when I say it's great to hear from you, but there's a lot of things a letter just can't say, oh me. Walk right back..."
  • Sonny Curtis wrote the song one Sunday afternoon during basic army training on a "beat-up Sears Roebuck kind of guitar." He recalled the penning of the tune during an interview with Bart Herbison of Nashville Songwriters Association International:

"I had the lick before I went into the army. And then that Sunday afternoon, I put a song to it ... People ask me all the time, 'What in the world are you thinking when you write a song?' I think sometimes, when I'm done, that I probably dreamed them. I can't really say."

    Claudette Lyrics

    Oh-oh Claudette
    Oh-oh Claudette

I got a brand new baby and I feel so good
She loves me even better than I thought she would
I'm on my way to her house an I'm plumb outta breath
A-when I see her tonight I'm gonna squeeze her to death

    [Chorus]
    Claudette, pretty little babe Claudette
    Never makes me wait Claudette
She's the greatest little girl that I've ever met
I get the best lovin'[ that I'll ever get
From Claudette, pretty little babe Claudette
    Oh oh Claudette

Well I'm a lucky man my baby treats me right
Sheâ??s gonna let me hug and kiss and hold her tight
When the date is over and we're at her front door
When I kiss her good night I'll holler more more more

    [Chorus]

When me an my new baby have a date or three
I'm gonna ask my baby if she'll marry me
I'm gonna be so happy for the rest of my life
When my brand new baby is my brand new wife

    [Chorus]

    Claudette
  • This song was written by Roy Orbison as a rocking tribute to his wife Claudette. It was the first major songwriting success for the then unknown Big O, who subsequently terminated his contract with Sun Records and affiliated himself with the Everly's publisher, Acuff-Rose Music.
  • The flip side of "All I Have to Do Is Dream," this was listed with the A-side though most of the record's chart action in the UK so it is recognized there as a #1 hit. Phil Everly said: "The idea was always to put the best up-tempo song and the best ballad back to back. When we were in Chicago, we asked Roy if he'd got a song for us. He gave us 'Claudette.'"
  • This was a number of hits for the Everlys about girls. Don and Phil charted with songs about Susie, Claudette, Mary, Jenny, Cathy, Lucille and Ebony.

    Crying In The Rain Lyrics

    I'll never let you see
The way my broken heart is hurting me
I've got my pride and I know how to hide
    All the sorrow and pain
I'll do my Crying In The Rain

If I wait for cloudy skies
You won't know the rain from the tears in my eyes
You'll never know that I still love you
    So though the heartaches remain
I'll do my crying in the rain

    Raindrops falling from heaven
Will never wash away my misery
    But since we're not together
    I'll wait for stormy weather
To hide these tears I hope you'll never see

    Someday when my crying's done
I'm gonna wear a smile and walk in the sun
    I may be a fool
But till then, darling, you'll never see me complain
I'll do my crying in the rain
I'll do my crying in the rain
I'll do my crying in the rain
I'll do my crying in the rain

    Crying In The Rain
  • Written by Howard Greenfield and Carole King, this was the Everlys' first hit with a song from the Brill Building stable of songwriters.

King, writing with her usual partner Gerry Goffin, had just previously come from two top-charting successes: "Run To Him" and "Take Good Care Of My Baby," both for Bobby Vee. Al Kirshner, co-producer at Aldon Music, had originally intended "Run To Him" to be for the Everly Brothers, but Vee's producer had snagged that song, too. Kirchner had been eager to produce a hit for the Everlys since his first day in business, so this was a dream come true for him.
  • This was recorded shortly before Don and Phil Everly were inducted into the Marine Corps Reserves on November 25, 1961. On February 18, 1962, the duo performed the song in full uniform on The Ed Sullivan show, and on March 3, the song reached its peak of #6 on the US charts. Don and Phil got out of the Corps on May 24, after 6 months of service. It was the only Everly Brothers song released during their time in the military.
  • This was the Everly's first Top-10 hit song in a year. As a gesture of gratitude, they found out that producer Don Kirshner's favorite snack was peanuts, so they shipped him a fifty pound sack. Talk about working for peanuts!
  • Shortly after this song came out, the performance rights organization Broadcast Music, Inc., held their annual awards to honor the most-played songs of the year. Out of the 90 awards handed out that night, Aldon Music took home 12, four times more than any other music publisher. So this song comes from a golden age of the Brill Building music era.

    Bye Bye Love
    Bye bye happiness, hello loneliness
    I think I'm-a gonna cry-y
Bye bye love, bye bye sweet caress, hello emptiness
    I feel like I could di-ie
    Bye bye my love goodby-eye

    Bye Bye Love
  • About 30 other artists had previously rejected this song before The Everly Brothers recorded it. It became their first hit in both the UK and US.
  • The husband-and-wife songwriting team of Boudleaux and Felice Bryant wrote this. Together, this talented couple penned many huge hits for the Everly Brothers and other artists, including "Wake Up Little Susie" and "All I Have To Do Is Dream." The Bryants are credited with being the first songwriters to come to Nashville and make a living only by writing songs. See a photo and learn more about them in Song Images .
  • This was a favorite of Simon & Garfunkel, who included it on their classic Bridge Over Troubled Water album. Paul Simon tells the story about how when he and Art Garfunkel were kids, they took a bus to the nearest record store so they could buy the single, and it became a staple of their shows when they started performing. It was always a fun song for them to play, especially when the audience would supply the backbeat. For their Bridge Over Troubled Water recording, they recorded audiences clapping from some of their shows to incorporate into the mix.
  • According to legend, the Everlys were nonplussed about the song but were appreciative of the $64 fee that both brothers received for the session.
  • In 1995, a movie called Bye Bye Love hit theaters. The film stars Paul Reiser, Matthew Modine and Randy Quaid as divorced men navigating a web of relationships. The song "Bye Bye Love" and a few other Everly Brothers tunes are featured in the film.

    Wake Up Little Susie Lyrics

Wake up, little Susie, wake up
Wake up, little Susie, wake up
We've both been sound asleep, wake up, little Susie, and weep
The movie's over, it's four o'clock, and we're in trouble deep
    Wake Up Little Susie
    Wake up little Susie, well

Whatta we gonna tell your mama
Whatta we gonna tell your pa
Whatta we gonna tell our friends when they say â??ooh-la-laâ??
    Wake up little Susie
    Wake up little Susie, well

I told your mama that you'd be in by ten
Well Susie baby looks like we goofed again
    Wake up little Susie
Wake up little Susie, we gotta go home

Wake up, little Susie, wake up
Wake up, little Susie, wake up
The movie wasn't so hot, it didn't have much of a plot
We fell asleep, our goose is cooked, our reputation is shot
    Wake up little Susie
    Wake up little Susie, well

Whatta we gonna tell your mama
Whatta we gonna tell your pa
Whatta we gonna tell our friends when they say â??ooh-la-laâ??

Wake Up Little Susie Song Chart
  • This was written by the husband and wife team of Felice and Boudleaux Bryant, who wrote most of The Everly Brothers songs in the '50s. Their songs were also recorded by Bob Dylan, Elvis, and Buddy Holly.
  • This is about a young couple who fall asleep at the drive-in, realize they are out past curfew, and make up a story to tell Susie's parents.
  • Some Boston radio stations banned this because of the lyrics, which imply that the young couple spent the night together. At the time, staying out late with a girl was a little controversial.
  • For The Everly Brothers, this was the first of 4 US #1 hits. It also went to #1 on the Country & Western charts.
  • At an appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show while campaigning for President in year 2000, George W. Bush was asked by Oprah what his favorite song was. He said: "Wake Up Little Susie - by Buddy Holly."
  • Simon and Garfunkel played this at their 1981 concert in Central Park. The live recording was released as a single the next year and hit #27 in the US.
  • Chet Atkins played guitar on this. Atkins, who died of cancer in 2001, was a Nashville musician who created a distinctive sound using a 3-fingered picking technique.
