Sail Away Sweet Sister Lyrics

Hey little babe you're changing
Babe are you feeling sore?
It ain't no use in pretending
You don't wanna play no more

It's plain that you ain't no baby
What would your mother say?
You're all dressed up like a lady
How come you behave this way?

Sail Away Sweet Sister
Sail across the sea
Maybe you'll find somebody
To love you half as much as me
My heart is always with you
No matter what you do
Sail away sweet sister
I'll always be in love with you

Forgive me for what I told you
My heart makes a fool of me
You know that I'll never hold you
I know that you gotta be free

Sail away sweet sister
Sail across the sea
Maybe you'll find somebody
To love you half as much as me
Take it the way you want it
But when they let you down my friend
Sail away sweet sister
Back to my arms again

Hot child don't you know you're young
You got your whole life ahead of you?
And you can throw it away too soon
Way too soon

Sail away sweet sister
Sail across the sea
Maybe you'll find somebody's
Gonna love you half as much as me
My heart is always with you
No matter what you do
Sail away sweet sister
I'll always be in love with you

Sail Away Sweet Sister
  • Queen guitarist Brian May wrote this, and though he usually played piano on his own songs, this time he asked Freddie Mercury do record it because of his perfect timing and rhythm sense. Mercury sings the middle eight of the song as well, while Brian sings the verses and choruses.

    Coming Soon Lyrics

    Ooh
    Oh Oh Oh
I get some headaches when I hit the heights
Like in the morning after crazy nights
Like some mother in law in her nylon tights
    They're always
    They're always
    They're always
    They're always
    Coming Soon
Coming soon on the outside of the tracks
    You take 'em
The same old babies with the same old toys
The neighbors screaming when the noise annoys
Somebody naggin' you when you're out with the boys
    They're always
    They're always
    They're always
    They're always
    Coming soon
Coming soon on the outside of the track

    They're always
    They're always
    They're always
    They're always
    Coming soon
Coming soon on the outside of the track
    Coming soon
Coming soon on the outside of the track
    Yeah yeah yeah

    Dragon Attack Lyrics

    Ooh yeah, ha, yeah
Take me to the room where the red's all red
Take me out of my head -'s what I said
    Yeah, ow
Hey, take me to the room where the green's all green
And from what I've seen it's hot, it's mean
    Eh

    Gonna use my stack
    It's gotta be Mack
Gonna get me on the track
Got a dragon on my back

Take me to the room where the beat's all round
Gonna eat that sound yeah yeah yeah yeah
Take me to the room where the black's all white
And the white's all black, take me back to the shack shack

    She don't take no prisoners
She gonna give me the business
Got a dragon on my back
    Hey it's a Dragon Attack

Get down, I said so, wooh
Hey hey, alright, yeah, oh yeah eah eah eah

Low down - she don't take no prisoners
Go down - she gonna give me the business
No time - yeah chained to the rack
Show time - got a dragon on my back
Show down - go find another customer
Slow down - I gotta make my way
    From me yeah oh
    Oh wrong way yeah
    Oh wrong way
    Hey
    Alright
    Oh look out

    Dragon Attack
  • Most of the track evolved from a jam session the band had at the studio while they were bladdered. That's how the basic loop of bass and drums came out. Brian May then added lyrics and melody, the latter being surprisingly similar to "We Will Rock You" (compare "Buddy you're a boy make a big noise playing in the street" with "Take me to the room where the red's all red take me").

It came as quite the musical surprise in the running order on the album - both that the rock-orientated May wrote it (as opposed to the more funk/disco leaning Deacon and Mercury) and after the very traditionally Queen "Play The Game." However, it does work on easing the listener in to "Another One Bites The Dust".
  • "Dragon Attack" is one of several songs on The Game which best demonstrates Queen's experimentation with more minimal recording techniques during this period. They had a new producer, Mack, and were working in high-tech studios in Munich, away from their regular producer Roy Thomas Barker (with whom they had developed their hugely complex sound) for the first time.

Brian May spoke about this new approach: "Yeah, that was when we started trying to get outside what was normal for us. We turned our whole studio technique around in a sense, because Mack had come from a different background from us. We thought there was only one way of doing things, like doing a backing tracks: We would just do it until we got it right. If there were some bits where it speeded up or slowed down, then we would do it again until it was right. We had done some of our old backing tracks so many times, they were too stiff. Mack's first contribution was to say, 'Well you don't have to do that. I can drop the whole thing in. If it breaks down after half a minute, then we can edit in and carry on if you just play along with the tempo.' We laughed and said 'Don't be silly. You can't do that.' But in fact, you can. What you gain is the freshness, because often a lot of the backing tracks is first time though. It really helped a lot. There was less guitar on that album, but that's really not going to be the same forever; that was just an experiment."

    Play The Game Lyrics

Open up your mind and let me step inside
Rest your weary head and let your heart decide
It's so easy when you know the rules
It's so easy all you have to do
    Is fall in love
    Play The Game
Everybody play the game of love
    Ooh yeah

When you're feeling down and your resistance is low
Light another cigarette and let yourself go
    This is your life
    Don't play hard to get
    It's a free world
All you have to do is fall in love
    Play the game - yeah
Everybody play the game of love
    Ooh yeah

My game of love has just begun
Love runs from my head down to my toes
My love is pumping through my veins
    Play the game
    Driving me insane
Come come come come come play the game
Play the game play the game play the game

    Play the game
Everybody play the game of love
This is your life - don't play hard to get
    It's a free free world
All you have to do is fall in love
    Play the game
Yeah play the game of love
Your life - don't play hard to get
    It's a free free world
All you have to do is fall in love
Play the game yeah everybody play the game of love

  • Freddie Mercury wrote this song for his lover Tony Bastin after they broke up. The topic for the song, with the narrator taking the perspective of someone looking back on past memories of an old relationship/former love, is one Mercury would revisit on "It's A Hard Life" (The Works) and "You Don't Fool Me" (a song made up of sections of lyrics Mercury recorded before his death, and included on the posthumous Made in Heaven album in 1995).

All four members of Queen contributed songs, resulting in a constantly changing sound.
  • The song starts with a series of rushing noises played on an Oberheim OB-X synthesiser. The Game album was a significant turning point for the band - for many years, they proudly noted on their album sleeves that no synthesizers were used on their records - many would assume that to be the case due to the complex instrumentation and sounds the band would achieve via recording tricks and guitar effects/overdubs.

From The Game onwards, the band started to experiment more explicitly with synths, starting with this song and the likes of "Another One Bites The Dust." Session musician Fred Mandel, who played the famous solo in "I Want To Break Free" on a Roland synth keyboard, joked about this in the Days of Our Lives documentary: "The old records used to say prominently 'no synthesizers'. And then I come in like another schmuck and put synthesizers on everything!"
  • The cover of the single was the first time Mercury displayed his soon-to-be-famous moustache, which would become a huge part of his look for many years - although at the time hardcore Queen fans didn't like the change of image, even going as far as to send him disposable razors to shave it off.
  • The B-side to the single for "Play The Game" was "A Human Body," one of Queen's rarest compositions for many years - only being available on the original vinyl releases until it was finally included on the Singles Collection Volume 2 and on the bonus disc to the 2011 CD re-issue of The Game.
  • This song was covered by Jon Brion for the 2005 Queen tribute album Killer Queen. (thanks, Rachel - South Point, OH)

Crazy Little Thing Called Love Lyrics

This thing called love, I just can't handle it
This thing called love, I must get round to it
    I ain't ready
    Crazy Little Thing Called Love

    This thing (this thing)
    Called love (called love)
    It cries (like a baby)
    In a cradle all night
    It swings (woo woo)
    It jives (woo woo)
It shakes all over like a jelly fish
    I kinda like it
    Crazy little thing called love

    There goes my baby
She knows how to rock 'n' roll
    She drives me crazy
She gives me hot and cold fever
Then she leaves me in a cool cool sweat

I gotta be cool, relax, get hip
    And get on my track's
    Take a back seat, hitch-hike
And take a long ride on my motorbike
    Until I'm ready
    Crazy little thing called love

I gotta be cool, relax, get hip
    And get on my track's
Take a back seat (ah hum), hitch-hike (ah hum)
And take a long ride on my motorbike
    Until I'm ready (ready Freddie)
    Crazy little thing called love

This thing called love, I just can't handle it
This thing called love, I must get round to it
    I ain't ready
    Ooh ooh ooh ooh

    Crazy little thing called love
Crazy little thing called love, yeah, yeah
Crazy little thing called love, yeah, yeah
Crazy little thing called love, yeah, yeah
Crazy little thing called love, yeah, yeah
Crazy little thing called love, yeah, yeah
Crazy little thing called love, yeah, yeah

Crazy Little Thing Called Love Song Chart
  • Freddie Mercury wrote this while Queen were recording The Game in Germany. He wrote it while taking a bubble bath in his room at the Munich Hilton. Peter Hince, the head of Queen's road crew, recalled to Mojo magazine September 2009: "The idea for the song came to him while he was in the bath. He emerged, wrapped in a towel, I handed him the guitar and he worked out the chords there and then. Fred had this knack of knowing a great pop song."

Freddie acknowledged that perhaps his limited talent on the guitar helped shape the song: "'Crazy Little Thing Called Love' took me five or ten minutes. I did that on the guitar, which I can't play for nuts, and in one way it was quite a good thing because I was restricted, knowing only a few chords. It's a good discipline because I simply had to write within a small framework. I couldn't work through too many chords and because of that restriction I wrote a good song, I think."
  • This sounded a lot more like Elvis Presley than Queen. It was a different sound for the group, but their fans loved it.
  • This was the first song on which Freddie Mercury played rhythm guitar. He was keen to keep the song minimal, despite his limited guitar knowledge, and producer Mack claimed that he rushed into the studio to record it "before Brian could get there!"

He also played the guitar solo on the original recording, but the tapes were lost so Brian May played the solo instead, using a Fender Telecaster to achieve the period sound. May didn't seem to like playing another guitar, and even when playing live, after performing the solo on the Telecaster he would immediately switch back to his Red Special.
  • At first, this was not released in the US. Since the album was not out yet, radio stations there started playing import copies of the single. This led Queen's record company to release it in America, about 3 months after it came out in England.
  • Mercury's name is in the lyrics. He sings, "Are you ready," and the band sings, "Ready Freddie."

This section took on a poignant edge after Mercury's death when the song was performed with guest singers, as the lyric was never altered regardless of the vocalist. Fans would take this opportunity to bellow the 'Ready, Freddie!' lyric back at the band in remembrance of the singer.
  • On stage, this was an important part of the show. Brian May often used three different guitars during the song: the first verse was played by Freddie alone with his guitar, then Brian joined with another Ovation Acoustic; before the third verse he had already switched to a Telecaster on which he performed the solo. During the singalong part (famous for its "ready Freddie" line) Brian again changed instruments to his homemade Red Special. From 1984 onwards Mercury replaced the acoustic with another Telecaster.
  • The single was very successful for the band, hitting #2 in the UK and becoming their first US #1 hit, There's an unconfirmed legend (commented on by Roger Taylor on the radio show In The Studio, and by Brian May on his website) that declares John Lennon was inspired by this song to go back to the music business. Whether it's true or false is still unknown, but it is a fact that Lennon listened to Queen and he did try new influences on his Double Fantasy album. (thanks, Sebas - Tokyo, Japan, for above 2)
  • Josh Kelley recorded this for the 2005 Queen tribute album Killer Queen. (thanks, Rachel - South Point, OH)
