Strife

This was released as the first single from Trivium's Vengeance Falls album. The song was performed live for the first time on August 1, 2013 at the Resurrection Fest at Viveiro in Spain.

Trivium bassist Paolo Gregoletto discussed the song in a track by track breakdown on his website : "'Strife' grew on me big time throughout the recording. It went from being a song I was unsure of to a definite first single (which was a close one between 'Vengeance Falls' and this one)."

He continued: "The intro is fu--ing massive and will give anyone that likes guitar tone a boner guaranteed. The verse vocals have Matt starting off in a lower register, gradually climbing into a more pissed off menacing voice with some screams layered in."

The song's music video was filmed in July 2013 at Studio One in Orlando, Florida and directed by Ramon Boutviseth, who has previously worked with Darkest Hour, Incubus and All That Remains.

This was written by Trivium on tour. Bassist Paolo Gregoletto recalled on his website : "Matt (Heafy) had some cool riffs, I had some cool riffs, and they ended up working well together. We jammed it at a sound check and demoed it out to remember it for pre-pro. Sometimes the best songs come together that simple."

"It's a very somber song both lyrically and musically through out.," he added. "I remember the day we jammed it at the Chance in Poughkeepsie being very grey and bleak outside."

The music video features footage from Trivium playing the song at venues around the world. The clip was filmed and directed by Luke Daley.
