Slave To The Rhythm Lyrics

She dances in these sheets at nights
She dances to his needs
She dances 'til he feels just right
Until he falls asleep
She dances at the crack of dawn
And quickly cooks his food
She can't be late, can't take too long
The kids must get to school

She's a Slave To The Rhythm
She's a slave to the rhythm of
She's a slave to the rhythm
A slave to the rhythm of
The rhythm of love, the rhythm of love

She's a slave to the rhythm
She's a slave to the rhythm of
She's a slave to the rhythm
A slave to the rhythm of
The rhythm of love, the rhythm of love

She dances for the man at work
Who works her overtime
She can't be rude as she says
"Sir, I must be home tonight"
She dances to the kitchen stove
Dinner is served by nine
He says his food's an hour late
She must be outta her mind

She's a slave to the rhythm
She's a slave to the rhythm of
She's a slave to the rhythm
A slave to the rhythm of
The rhythm of love, the rhythm of love

She's a slave to the rhythm
She's a slave to the rhythm of
She's a slave to the rhythm
A slave to the rhythm of
The rhythm of love, the rhythm of love

She works so hard, just to make her way
For a man who just don't appreciate
And though he takes her love in vain
Still she could not stop, couldn't break his chains
She danced the night that they fell out
She swore she'd dance no more
But then she did, he did not quit as she ran out the door

She danced through the night in fear of her life
She danced to a beat of her own
She let out a cry and swallowed her pride
She knew she was needed back home, home

She's a slave to the rhythm
She's a slave to the rhythm of
She's a slave to the rhythm
A slave to the rhythm of
The rhythm of love, the rhythm of love

She's a slave to the rhythm
She's a slave to the rhythm of
She's a slave to the rhythm
A slave to the rhythm of
The rhythm of love, the rhythm of love

Slave To The Rhythm
  • This song was originally written and recorded by Michael Jackson back in 1989 during the Dangerous sessions and first appeared on the net in 2010. An unauthorized reworked version, which added Justin Bieber's vocals to the mix, was leaked in 2013 supported by a series of Bieber tweets. It was quickly removed following a copyright claim and the version that appears on the Xscape album is Bieber-less.
  • L.A. Reid, chairman of Epic Records who executive-produced Xscape, worked on the original base track in 1989 with Babyface. He recalled to Billboard magazine that Jackson recorded his vocal 24 times. "And it was not once and fix the bad note," he said. "No, he sang the song from top to bottom 24 times without a bathroom break, without a water break, without a 'Give me a moment.' He would sing the song and say, 'OK, give me another track, I can do it better,' and he'd do it again. 'I can nail this. Give me another track,' and he'd do it again."
  • Sony Mobile used a snippet of the song in a 90-second ad for the Xperia Z2 mobile phone.
  • A hologram of Michael Jackson appeared on stage to perform the song at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards. The illuminated image stole the show by accurately mimicking the late King of Pop's famous dance moves.
  • The song marked Michael Jackson's milestone 50th Hot 100 hit.
  • This marked a return to the Hot 100 for L.A. Reid as a songwriter after a 20-year break. He last charted in 1994 with Toni Braxton's "You Mean the World to Me," which peaked at #7. After co-penning numerous hits for the likes of Braxton, Whitney Houston, Boyz II Men and Bobby Brown, Reid started focusing in the early 1990s on his then-role as co-president of LaFace Records.

A Place With No Name Lyrics

As I drove across on the highway
    My jeep began to rock
I didn't know what to do so I stopped and got out
And looked down and noticed I got a flat

So I walked out, parked the car like sideways
So I can find what I can fix
I looked around there were no cars on the highway
I felt a strange feeling like a mist

I walked down towards the end of the road
And in the fog a woman appeared
She said don't you worry my friend I'll take care
Take my hand, I'll take you there

    Oh
Take me to a place without no name
Take me to a place without no name
Take me to a place without no name
Take me to a place without no name

As she took me right through the fog
I see a beautiful city appear
Where kids are playin' and people are laughin' and smiling and
    Nothing to fear fear

She said this is the place where no people have pain
    With love and happiness
She turned around looked down at my eyes and started cryin'
She grabbed my hand, you got a friend

    Oh
Take me to a place without no name
    Yeah

She started likin' me kissin' me and huggin' me
She didn't really, really want me to leave
She showed me places I've never seen things I've never done
This really looks like a lotta fun

I seen the grass and the sky and the birds
And the flowers surrounded by the trees
This place is filled with love and happiness
How in the world could I wanna leave

So then I went in my pocket took my wallet on out
With my pictures of my family and girl
This is the place that you choose to be with me
When you thought you could be in another world

    Oh
Take me to a place without no name
    La la la
    A place without no name
    La la la

A place without no name (La, la, la)

    A Place With No Name
  • This song was first conceived in 1998 by Elliot Straite, a New Jack Swing producer who goes by the name "Dr. Freeze." Straite knew Michael Jackson's manager at the time, John McClain, and was given an opportunity to work with the King of Pop. This was one of three songs they collaborated on. "I did all the music, and he only had to learn the lyrics," Straite said. "'A Place With No Name' is itself a kind of escape, a song where you just close your eyes to find yourself instantly transported into a wonderful world."
  • Three weeks after Michael Jackson's death on June 25, 2009, TMZ.com obtained a 24-second snippet of this previously unreleased song and put it onto the Internet. A full version was later reworked by the Norwegian production team Stargate, known for their hits with Ne-Yo, Rihanna and Katy Perry, for Jackson's second posthumous album Xscape.
  • Stargate's Mikkel Eriksen recalled to Billboard magazine that Jackson was a fan of their songs for Ne-Yo (they included his 2005 chart-topper "So Sick") and he met with them at the Midtown Manhattan Chinese restaurant Mr. K's to discuss future projects. "Just the two of us, and managers, and Blanket was there as well," he said. "Down in the basement."
  • The song's melody and lyrics resembles America's 1972 single "A Horse With No Name." Straite admitted the song was inspired by the seventies hit. "The lyrics of this song are very deep. I wanted to refresh it, make a version for the 2000s as well," he said. "The group America loved the idea. They found this 'update' absolutely terrific. They were really excited about this project."
  • This wasn't the only time a member of the Jackson family borrowed from the work of America. Janet Jackson's 2001 hit single "Someone To Call My Lover" sampled "Ventura Highway."
  • The song's music video was helmed by director Samuel Bayer (Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit," Blind Melon's "No Rain," Justin Timberlake's "What Goes Around... Comes Around"). The clip mixes shots of a photogenic pair's dance routine and driving a Jeep through a desert with outtakes and behind-the-scenes footage Jackson originally filmed for his 1992 "In The Closet" mini-movie.

According to Jackson's official website, the clip closely adapts the song's narrative: "A man is enticed into a magical place by a mysterious woman. This Utopian world is one where no one is in fear and no people have pain."

The video premiered worldwide exclusively on the late icon's Twitter account on August 13, 2014, marking the first time the social media site has ever premiered a music clip.

Do You Know Where Your Children Are Lyrics

Father comes home from work, and he's scared to death
Mother cries for the kid, and the note she read
Father runs to the table, he says "What's going on?"
Mother cries desperately, "Our little baby's gone!"

Do You Know Where Your Children Are?
    Because it's now twelve o'clock
If they're somewhere out on the street
Just imagine how scared they are

Do you know where your children are?
    Because it's now twelve o'clock
If they're somewhere out on the street
Just imagine how scared they are

She wrote that she is tired of step daddy using her
Saying that he'll buy her things, while sexually abusing her
Just think that she's all alone somewhere out on the street
    How will this girl survive?
She ain't got nothing to eat!

Do you know where your children are?
    Because it's now twelve o'clock
If they're somewhere out on the street
Just imagine how scared they are

Do you know where your children are?
    Because it's now twelve o'clock
If they're somewhere out on the street
Just imagine how scared they are

Save me (from this living hell)
Save me (cause I don't wanna know)
    Save me

Now she's on the move, she's off to Hollywood
She says she wanna be a star, she heard the money's good
She gets off from the train station, the man is waiting there
"I'll show you where the money is, girl just let down your hair"
He's taking her on the streets, of Sunset Boulevard
She's selling her body hard, girl that will take you far
The police come 'round the corner, somebody there they told
He's arresting this little girl, that's only twelve years old!

Do you know where your children are?
    Because it's now twelve o'clock
If they're somewhere out on the street
Just imagine how scared they are

Do you know where your children are?
    Because it's now twelve o'clock
If they're somewhere out on the street
Just imagine how scared they are

Do you know where your children are?
    Because it's now twelve o'clock
If they're somewhere out on the street
Just imagine how scared they are

Do you know where your children are?
    Because it's now twelve o'clock
If they're somewhere out on the street
Just imagine how scared they are

Do you know where your children are?
    Because it's now twelve o'clock
If they're somewhere out on the street

Do You Know Where Your Children Are
  • First recorded by Michael Jackson during the Bad sessions and further developed during the early Dangerous sessions, the song tells the tale of a runaway girl fleeing sexual abuse by her stepfather. The title derives from a popular public service announcement that ran on American television from the 1960s through the 1980s.
  • Michael Jackson is the sole credited songwriter. He explained the background to the song in a note discovered by the late singer's estate:

"(It) is about kids being raised in a broken family where the father comes home drunk and the mother is out prostituting and the kids run away from home and they become victims of rape, prostitution and the hunter becomes the hunted. So they are out on the street. Do you know where your children are? It's twelve o'clock. They are somewhere out on the street. Just imagine how scared they are. It's about the runaway problem we have in America."
  • The song was leaked in 2012 before being reworked by Timbaland and Jerome "J-Roc" Harmon for Jackson's 2014 posthumous album Xscape. The two producers added hypnotic synths to accentuate the song's driving riff.
  • Michael Jackson was both a victim of abuse, and accused of it. If the song was a response to the allegations, it wouldn't be Jackson's first. For instance, "Stranger In Moscow" was written by the singer at the height of media coverage surrounding the claims in 1993 and "Scream" was inspired in part by the frustrations he felt dealing with the fallout from his trial.
