Impossible Lyrics

And you called me on the phone
To say there's nothing to talk about
Wish you stopped your crying long enough just to hear me out
Oh we are, we are, just what we are

In the pride of all the things
I've been putting you through
When I shot up at the sky,
I didn't know it'd fall down on you
Take it all back, take it all back

I didn't mean to make you suffer
I didn't mean to make you cry
I just wanna put us back together
This isn't Impossible
This isn't impossible
This isn't impossible
This isn't impossible
Yeah, yeah, oh, oh

I know this is getting under your skin
If we can make it through the winter,
We could fall in love again
Oh we are, we are, just what we are

And all these days
It's just too easy to be calling it quits
But a life without you
Would be too hard to find happiness
Take it all back, take it all back, take it all back

I didn't mean to make you suffer
I didn't mean to make you cry
I just wanna put us back together
This isn't impossible
This isn't impossible
This isn't impossible
This isn't impossible
Yeah, yeah, oh, oh

Well I'll just set us straight to breaking me up
Cause every corner is a memory
One day I'll write you back
You took my wings and left me
Here all alone
I'm sorry I'm a little deranged
And a little behind it all

I didn't mean to make you suffer
I didn't mean to make you cry
I just wanna put us back together
This isn't impossible
This isn't impossible

I didn't mean to make you suffer
I didn't mean to make you cry
I just wanna put us back together
This isn't impossible
This isn't impossible
This isn't impossible
This isn't impossible
Yeah, yeah, oh, oh

Impossible
  • This is the lead single from Ryan Star 's EP, Animals. The record was recorded by the singer-songwriter in Rhinebeck, New York with his touring band, which was a first for him. The song was recorded live in one take.
  • Star wrote this song around the same time as "Start a Fire" from his 2010 album 11:59, but he kept tweaking it and didn't record it until session for his 2013 Animals EP.
  • "Impossible" inspired the title of the EP. Star explained to Billboard magazine: "It stems from a quote I heard that humans are a hybrid between angels and animals. I feel this dichotomy every waking second and finally put it in this brutally honest song."
  • Ido Zmishlany produced the Animals EP. He thinks that he and Star work so well together because they come from a common ground. In his Songfacts interview , Zmishlany explained that both he and Star started out in bands from Long Island, so they understand each other's journeys of getting to the next phases of their careers. Zmishlany revealed how the tune was a telling of those experiences: "We had come from a similar place. I think that song was a reflection of it - a relationship that's stood the test of the trials and tribulations of doing what we do."

World I Used To Know Lyrics

    World I Used To Know
  • Ryan Star told Artist Direct the story of this song: "I had this idea," he said. "You're driving home for thanksgiving break from college, and you're back in that town you grew up in. Movies have been made of it. Everything seems different. It brings back those memories for you. There's a nostalgic sound to the song. There's an eighties thing going on in the music. There's that idea of 'The last time I was here, I was thinking this way.'"

Star added: "It's not such a sad song, but the line, 'We wished for lots of things when we were seventeen and we're waiting for it now'—to me, that's the song. It's the honest song I can say. In the years of Facebook and Twitter, everybody's bragging about everything going on. The truth is I think we're all really discontent [Laughs]. We're looking at everyone else like, 'Am I really the only one who's not where I want to be?' It's not saying, 'I failed. I'm bitter. You fu--ing lied to me!' [Laughs] It's more like, 'I'm fu--ing ready, man. Where are you? I'm doing everything right.' I might know enough people out there who are working hard and waiting for that sign."
  • The song features guest vocals by Naya Rivera, who is best known for her portrayal of Santana Lopez on the Fox television series Glee.

    Pigs On The Wing Lyrics

    If you didn't care
    What happened to me
And I didn't care for you

    We would zig-zag our way
    Through the boredom and pain
Occasionally glancing up through the rain

    Wondering which of the
    Buggers to blame
And watching the Pigs On The Wing

    Pigs On The Wing
  • This is probably the closest thing to a love song Floyd has ever made. The Floyd were noted as being more political in their lyrics than anything.
  • The song is split into two parts at the beginning and end of Animals, nesting three tracks between it. This is similar to the structure of Wish You Were Here, which featured "Shine On, You Crazy Diamond" split into two parts with three tracks between.
  • While performing this live at a show, bassist/vocalist Roger Waters got increasingly agitated as the crowd let off explosives while the band tried to perform. Waters made his anger quite apparent to the crowd, the result of which is now a rather famous download. It's also one of the antics that led Waters to create the theme for The Wall. (thanks, Matt - Russell Springs, KY, for all above)
  • After Floyd's breakup, during his solo shows, Roger Waters combined Pigs on the Wing parts I and II and bridged them with an electric guitar solo played by Snowy White. (thanks, Joe - Piscataway, NJ)

    Sheep Lyrics

Hopelessly passing your time in the grassland away
Only dimly aware of a certain unease in the air
    You better watch out,
    There may be dogs about
I've looked over Jordan, and I have seen
Things are not what they seem

What do you get for pretending the danger's not real
Meek and obedient you follow the leader
Down well trodden corridors into the valley of steel
    What a surprise!

A look of terminal shock in your eyes
Now things are really what they seem
No, this is no bad dream

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want
He makes me down to lie
Through pastures green He leadeth me the silent waters by
With bright knives He releaseth my soul

He maketh me to hang on hooks in high places
He converteth me to lamb cutlets,
For lo, He hath great power, and great hunger
When cometh the day we lowly ones,

Through quiet reflection, and great dedication
    Master the art of karate,
    Lo, we shall rise up,
And then we'll make the bugger's eyes water

Bleating and babbling we fell on his neck with a scream
Wave upon wave of demented avengers
March cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream

    Have you heard the news?
    The dogs are dead
    You better stay home
    And do as you're told
Get out of the road if you want to grow old

    Sheep Song Chart
  • Along with pigs and dogs, sheep are one of 3 animals represented on the album. The sheep represents the mindless people who follow the herd.
  • Pink Floyd started performing this in 1974. It was known as "Raving And Drooling," but was changed to fit the animal theme of the album.
  • This was the only song from Animals included on Pink Floyd's 2001 retrospective album Echoes.
  • After Pink Floyd toured for this album, they took some time off, got back together, and recorded their legendary album The Wall.
  • There is a "subliminal" message on this song that is a parody of the "Lord's Prayer". It is heard beneath the music in a robotic, distorted voice, with sheep heard in the background. "The Lord is my shepherd, He converteth me to lamb cutlets....". (thanks, Shawn - Boston, MA)
