History Lyrics

Dear friends of this academy
Romeo is bleeding to death
To see a friend bleed to death, what for
Some kind of metaphor that I can't see?
So I'll drink until I see it.

This sky will make me sick
So I'll give up on you
I'll give up on this
This sky will make me sick
So I'll give up on this
I'll give up on you

Archers in your arches
Raise your fingers for the last salute
And bleed this skyline dry
Your History is mine

So you want to hold me up and bring me down
Yes, you want to hold me up and break me down
I don't care for your sweet scent
Or the way you want me more than I want you
I don't care for your sweet scent
Or the way you want me more than I want you

Archers in your arches
Raise your fingers for the last salute
And bleed this skyline dry
Your history is mine

Archers in your arches
Raise your fingers for the last salute
And bleed this skyline dry
Your history is mine

It's all mine

Water broken voice, saturates a microphone
Into a receiver with no tongue
Offering, little to what it knows

Then a silence so heavy, broken hearts fall from throats
When heaven is remembered but never seen
    Through hearts shaped like kaleidoscopes

Eternally, the sun has set to mourning
    And contoured are the backgrounds
On the canvas to which our lives are painted

  • Vocalist Matthew Davies-Kreye explained the song's meaning: "The idea for the track came from watching the news reports around and after the financial crisis hit; the anger at the banks and financial institutions that lined their own pockets off the backs of the hard working average individual," he said. "Theft at the highest level, no sense of remorse, even in the wake of exposure. Hand outs, bonuses, pay increases. It's like someone rubbing egg in the face of the honest, hard working people who struggle, sometimes with two jobs, raising a family and only just being able to make ends meet."

  • Lead singer Matt Davies explained the track's meaning: "It's a song about frustration," he said. "About letting the little things get to you, building gradually over time before you explode in a hail of fury and fire and blood."

    Streetcar Lyrics

    (Hello)
    When eyes are red
We can't talk for a while
Without our sweet dumb things we say
    you don't want me anyway
    You don't want me anyway
    so what
    Why should i stay?

So goodbye to you and your life
    Your new best friends
    your confidence
And i'll be here when you get home

    Sitting half way
    Away from no where
    praying for lips to touch
    Holding myself
    For a second
    Just to catch you smile
    On this side

So goodbye to you and your lies
    (Two months, so many weeks)
    Your new best friends
    Your confidence
    (turn my hours into days)
And i'll be here when you get home
    (when you get home)

So goodbye to yuo and your lies
    (two months so many weeks)
    Your new best friends
    Your confidence
    (turn my hours into days)
And i'll be here when you get home
    (When you get home)

(I can't feel the same without you any more)

    It's just like you said
    It would be
    (separation)

    I can't feel the same
    I can't feel this way
I can't feel the same without you anymore

    (separation) Without you anymore
    (separation) Without you anymore

  • This was the first single released from the band's second album. It ended up being the bands fourth consecutive Top 20 single in the UK by debuting at number #15.
  • Frontman Matthew Davies writes about a long distance relationship that he wants to continue, but ends when they realize it was too hard to keep alive.
  • Devoted fans of Funeral For A Friend used the dial tones at the beginning of the song to figure out the number being called, which happened to be Davies' actual phone number, allowing fans to ring him at his home. Of course, he changed his number immediately. (thanks, Ben - Adelaide, SA, Australia, for above 3)
