'For two-and-a-half years, I've been obsessed with nothing but blues," she told USA Today magazine in an interview just before the release of the album. The songs on I'm Not Bossy, I'm The Boss are sung from the viewpoint of different characters. O'Connor told Uncut magazine about this track. "The song was inspired by a painting I came across, which had this giant stone head of a man and this tiny little Buddhist priestess leaning against him snuggling, and he had a big old tear running down his face," she explained. "I don't know whether it was the woman in a painting suddenly became the character or not, but the moment I saw it, I had the character."
