Make Me Wanna Lyrics

Windows down, country sound, FM on the radio
Just me and you and the man on the moon
Cruisin' down some old back road

Now baby don't you look at me that way
'Cause you know there's only so much I can take
'Cause you Make Me Wanna

Pull this truck to the side of the road
Slide on over, let me hold you close and tell
You everything I'm thinking
Hop on out and let the tailgate fall
Get drunk on you with no alcohol
If you don't stop I'm gonna
Girl you make me wanna

Yeah
Hm hm

You know better than to wear that dress
It oughta be against the law, yeah
Plain and simple, girl them dimples
Know just how to turn me on

Now baby don't you look at me that way
'Cause you know there's only so much I can take
'Cause you make me wanna

Pull this truck to the side of the road
Slide on over, let me hold you close and tell
You everything I'm thinking
Hop on out and let the tailgate fall
Get drunk on you with no alcohol
If you don't stop I'm gonna
Girl you make me wanna

You make me wanna
Wake up with you
In the bed of my truck and start
Over again when the sun comes up

You make me wanna
Pull this truck to the side of the road
Slide on over, let me hold you close and tell
You everything I'm thinking
Hop on out and let the tailgate fall
Get drunk on you with no alcohol
If you don't stop I'm gonna
You make me wanna

Pull this truck to the side of the road
Slide on over, let me hold you close and tell
You everything I'm thinking
Hop on out and let the tailgate fall
Get drunk on you with no alcohol
If you don't stop I'm gonna
Girl you make me wanna

Yeah

Make Me Wanna
  • Thomas Rhett told the story of this cut, which he penned with Jon Pardi producer Bart Butler and Ray Stevens' bass player Larry McCoy. "This song came out because I had just been listening to 'Stayin' Alive' by the Bee Gees," he explained, "and I went into a room with a few buddies. We wanted to write a song with country lyrics, but we wanted it to have the old '80s dance feel. That's kind of why this song has such a funky groove and is a great song to play live."
  • The song showcases an R&B side to Rhett. "I've got a lot of that in me," he told Billboard magazine. "I grew up listening to '(Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay,' Aretha Franklin, Muddy Waters, and all the Rolling Stones stuff. I think that's where the soulful side of my voice comes from. It's not 100% bluesy, but I come from a lot of that. So to put out a song like this is really fun for me."

"It's just a song that makes you feel good," Rhett added. "You just want to crank the windows down and have a good time with it."
  • The video was directed by TK McKamy, who also helmed Rhett's "It Goes Like This" and" Get Me Some of That" clips. The visual was shot in Nashville and features the singer performing a number of dance moves, which didn't necessarily come naturally at first. "Making this video put me a little outside my comfort zone," Rhett said. "I wanted it to have a little swagger in a loose, fun way and reflect that sort of Bee Gees feel the song has. I've never claimed to be a dancer, but me and my band love to goof off on stage, especially to this song. I wanted the video to reflect that and let everyone know it's OK to shake your hips a little bit."
  • Billboard magazine chose this as their best country song of 2014. So what sets it apart? They said it was "the '70s R&B-influenced production that melds with Rhett's southern twang to make for a record that would make Otis Redding smile."
  • Rhett wrote this the day after he'd watched the movie Airplane. He recalled to Radio.com : "My grandma used to love watching that movie, and Grease, with me. When I'd go to her house, she'd always try to teach me all the dances they used to do in the '50s and '60s. And so I've always been intrigued by that period of music."

"So when 'Make Me Wanna' was written, it was written from that scene in Airplane when they are playing 'Staying Alive' by the Bee Gees," he continued. "I was like, 'I want to go write that melody with a country lyric,' and that's what we did."
  • Bart Butler told The Boot the story of the writing of the song: "Thomas was running late," he recalled. "He shows up, and he says, 'Guys, I'm sorry. But do you know who the Bee Gees are? I was watching the movie Airplane last night. You know that whole Saturday Night Live Fever thing?' I go, 'Yeah.' He said, 'I like that feel, the disco feel. I've got this little riff.'"

"Of course, Larry's sitting there, and [Rhett] started playing a chord," Butler continued. "He goes, 'Man, I can't figure out exactly how to finish this chord, but I hear [hums chorus melody].' Larry finished the chord with him, and they started working on that melody."

"All of a sudden, I said, 'What about "Make Me Wanna"?' I've got this title laying around, and we went from there," he added. "I think that whole energy that day was amazing because Thomas - he said the movie made him feel good, and he came in with a good idea, and boom."

"I think we knew we had something," Butler concluded. "But I think when I heard the official demo that they did, I knew we had a hit."

    So, here in a minute

And the stars in the sky get to spinnin'
I'm gonna have a big time cause you get one life
So I'm gonna make sure that I live it
'Cause you never know when you're gonna go

    In a Minute
  • Thomas Rhett penned this song with his father Rhett Atkins and Ashley Gorley. He explained: "I am a strong believer in God and this song, I feel, will speak to people because life is so short and unpredictable. You never know when you're going to leave this earth so I think you have to enjoy every minute. That is why I put this song on the record because just like 'Beer With Jesus,' it gives perspective to live and how it changes in a minute."
  • Both "In a Minute" and "It Goes Like This" are expressions that Thomas Rhett regularly uses.

    Sorry For Partying Lyrics

    Sorry For Partying
  • Rhett penned this drunken waltz with Barry Dean and Jimmy Robbins. He wrote it for all those people who get put down for wanting to have a good time. Rhett recalled: "I have never been carried out of a bar, but ironically after writing this song, I was hanging out in Rhode Island on a day off on the road when something crazy happened. I went into this old bar and it turned out it was one of the oldest bars in America. I hung out for while before the waitress told me they didn't get people 'like us' up in that bar and she handed us the check. I was confused about what she meant about 'people like us.' Oh well. Sorry for partying, Miss."

    Whatcha Got in That Cup
  • Thomas Rhett opens his It Goes Like This album with this fast-paced bluesy tune. Rhett explained to Radio.com that he wanted to grab listeners right away. "'Whatcha Got In That Cup' is a very, very rocking song. That opening lick immediately lets you know what you're in for on the record," he said. "Off the bat you're like, 'OK, this is definitely different.' Your brain is open to more things and once you listen to the entire record you're ready for every song that comes your way."

Get Me Some of That Lyrics

Yeah girl, been diggin' on you
    Sippin' on drink number two
Tryin' to come up with somethin' smooth
And waitin' on the right time to make my move
But I just can't wait no more
Can't let you slip out that door
Prettiest thing I ever seen before
Got me spinnin' around, I ain't even on the dance floor

You're shakin' that money maker, like a heart breaker, like your college major was
Twistin' and tearin' up Friday nights
Love the way you're wearin' those jeans so tight
I bet your kiss is a soul saver, my favorite flavor, want it now and later
I never seen nothin' that I wanted so bad
Girl, I gotta get me, gotta Get Me Some of That
Yeah gotta get me some of that

Little more what you doin' right there
Swingin' your hips and slingin' your hair
Side to side with your drink in the air
Lord have mercy now girl I swear
Gotta get your number in my phone
Gotta get me some of of you alone
We can worry 'bout it later on
Right now keep makin' this my favorite song

You're shakin' that money maker, like a heart breaker, like your college major was
Twistin' and tearin' up Friday nights
Love the way you're wearin' those jeans so tight
I bet your kiss is a soul saver, my favorite flavor, want it now and later
I never seen nothin' that I wanted so bad
Girl, I gotta get me, gotta get me some of that
    Some of that
Yeah, gotta get me some of that

In my ride, by my side, down the highway
In the dark, in my arms, in your driveway
All because of that smile you threw my way
Yeah girl you got a way of

Shakin' that money maker, like a heart breaker, like your college major was
Twistin' and tearin' up Friday nights
Love the way you're wearin' those jeans so tight
I bet your kiss is a soul saver, my favorite flavor, want it now and later
I never seen nothin' that I wanted so bad
Girl, I gotta get me, gotta get me some of that
Gotta get me some of that

Yeah, I gotta get me some of that
Oh girl, I gotta get me some of that
    Oh yeah
I bet your kiss is a soul saver, my favorite flavor
I want it now and later

    Get Me Some of That
  • Thomas' father Rhett Akins teamed up with Michael Carter and Cole Swindell to write this song. The narrator uses a popular expression to describe his desire to pick up a girl. He sings:

"I bet your kiss is a soul saver, my favorite flavor, want it now and later.
I never seen nothin' I wanted so bad.
Girl, I gotta get me, gotta get me some of that."

Thomas said in a cut by cut just before the release of It Goes Likes This: "I did not write this song, but the reason I recorded it was because of the catchy melody it has. I can' t wait for everyone to hear it on the record. It's also one of the most recent ones I cut for the record and I think everyone will want to shake their money-maker on this one."
  • The music video, which follows two people as they fall in love at a party, was directed by TK McKamy, who also worked with Rhett on his visual for "It Goes Like This." Rhett's wife (Lauren Gregory Akins) has a role when at the end of the clip when the singer notices her from across the room.
  • Rhett Atkins told the story of the song to Roughstock : "I had been friends with Cole and Michael for a long time," he recalled. "My association with Luke (Laird, producer) is how I met those guys. Actually, Cole used to open for me around 2008/2009 when I'd play in college towns in Georgia. Cole would open and do a little acoustic set before I played. I knew Cole from back then, and I knew Michael from Luke. They write for Sony, who I write for, and we'd been talking about it for a while … how we need to get together and do something. They had written a few Spring Break songs with Luke, and then they had Craig Campbell's single ('Outta My Head'). Then they started getting cuts on Luke's Crash My Party record. So we all got together. "

"Cole and Michael played me the first three lines of the chorus," Akins continued. "They said we just kind of came up with this out on the road with Luke this weekend, but that's all we have. When they played me those lines, I was like I'm in -- big time! That sounds like a smash. We just sat there and hammered it out for the rest of the afternoon. Then we went and demoed it a week later."
  • This wasn't specifically written for Thomas Rhett. "We thought his record was done," Akins told Roughstock. "We pitched it to a few people, and they passed on it, just like 'It Goes Like This' was passed on by some pretty big artists. We were scratching our heads going we think this song is so awesome, so why is it being passed on? I think it's just one of those things where a song is meant to be where it's meant to be. Both of these songs I truly believe were meant for Thomas Rhett. I think that's why they were both passed on by a bunch of people. I sent it to him, and he called me saying, 'Dad, I'm cutting that! That's a smash!' He went in and cut it with Luke Laird, and they just killed it. It sounds great. Thomas Rhett sounds great. It's fun. It gets you moving. I think it's exactly what Thomas Rhett needed for his follow-up single to 'It Goes Like This.'"
