Shame Lyrics

What you heard is true
The disappointing truth
Is I don't like to lose
Shame on me, shame on me

Promises I made
And bills I never paid
Another missed birthday
Shame on me, shame on me

Bridges that I burned
And lovers that I hurt
Lessons never learned
Shame on me, shame on me

Hey, I'm not tryin to be perfect
Its not like its worth it
Everyone hurts the same
Hey, I'm not tryin to be special
'Cause I ain't no angel
Everyone hurts the same
What a shame

I repeat my words
Sometimes they seem rehearsed
And I speak out of turn
Shame on me, shame on me

Bridges that I burned
And lovers that I hurt
Lessons never learned
Shame on me, shame on me

Hey, I'm not tryin to be perfect
Its not like its worth it
Everyone hurts the same
Hey, I'm not tryin to be special
'Cause I ain't no angel
Everyone hurts the same
What a shame

That were hiding underneath our skin
And were scared of letting somebody in
Nobody showed us how to live
Or how to be perfect
Its not like its worth it

Hey, I'm not tryin to be perfect
Its not like its worth it
Everyone hurts the same
Hey, I'm not tryin to be special
'Cause I ain't no angel
Everyone hurts the same
What a shame

Hey, I'm not tryin to be perfect
Its not like its worth it
Everyone hurts the same
Hey, I'm not tryin to be special
'Cause I ain't no angel
Everyone hurts the same
What a shame

Shame
  • This Fuse cut was a collaborative effort between a number of top-ranking songwriters. They were:

Norwegian producers Stargate (Rihanna's "Diamonds," Katy Perry's "Firework")

American hitmaker Benny Blanco (Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl," Kesha's "TiK ToK")

Pakistani-American songwriter Ammar Malik (Marron 5's "Moves Like Jagger," Gym Class Heroes "Stereo Hearts")

New York City producer RoboPop (Maroon 5's "Payphone")

Illinois songsmith Ross Golan (Justin Bieber's "Take You")

English songwriter Justin Parker (Rihanna's "Stay")
  • Urban told Suzanne Alexander on GAC's Daily Countdown that the song particularly spoke to him. "We're talking about the human condition, which is universal," he said. "I heard the song and I was just, 'I know that guy.' I've been that guy, you know. The chorus starts, 'I'm not trying to be perfect, I'm just trying to do the next right thing in my life.'"
  • Urban recalled that after recording his vocal for this song with Stargate in New York, he indicated that he would lay down some back-up harmonies, "But Tor Hermansen of Stargate, stopped me," the singer added, "and he said, 'No, not on this song—you sing one vocal, top to bottom, storytelling. Pure, honest, true, no other singers, just you.' And I went, 'Gosh, you're so right.' It was a very raw, naked vocal, and if ever there was a song that needed to be left alone, it was this one."
  • Urban commented during a Q&A at New York's Apple Store in Soho that it was the first time a banjo had been brought in on a Stargate session.

Even The Stars Fall 4 U Lyrics

I couldn't bring myself to take you home
I've got you out here all alone
And even this old drunken mind
    Still right here tonight

    Yellow fireflies in the field
Think I know the way I feel
At the corner of my eye
    Did you see that?

Every star up in the sky
Has got your name on it tonight
    And they don't stand a chance like I know I don't
And girl you can't tell me that you can't see
The kind of spell you put on me
You gotta know just what you do
Even the stars fall for you
Even the stars fall for you

So make a wish and make it fast
I just want this thing to last
'Cause heaven knows it's falling hard
And I'm not the only one

Every star up in the sky
Has got your name on it tonight
    And they don't stand a chance like I know I don't
And girl you can't tell me that you can't see
The kind of spell you put on me
You gotta know just what you do
Even the stars fall for you

I never counted on your touch
Making me want you so much
I never dreamed of your sweet lips
Could make me feel like this
    Nothing like this

Every star up in the sky
Has got your name on it tonight
    And they don't stand a chance like I know I don't
And girl you can't tell me that you can't see
The kind of spell you put on me
'Cause you gotta know just what you do
Even the stars fall for you
Even the stars fall for you
Even the stars fall for you

  • Longtime producer Dann Huff had been in charge of the previous five Keith Urban albums, but the singer used ten separate producers to create the sounds on Fuse, including Butch Walker (Fall Out Boy, Weezer) on this track.
  • The song was a turning point in Fuse's trajectory. Urban had felt something in the song's energy that reminded him of Fall Out Boy's 2013 single "My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light Em Up)," so he brought the demo to the band's producer, Butch Walker. "I remember sitting in Butch's studio," said Urban, "and listening to what he did and thinking, 'we might have gone a little too far off the rails with this one.' but then I realized that this is probably where the expansion of the new sound begins. This is it, this is where we push out from where we used to be and go somewhere different."
  • Urban said to Rolling Stone of this uncharacteristically abrasive track: "It's sort of industrial-punk-ish, relative to what I do. Not like anything I've done before."

    Somewhere In My Car Lyrics

I'm driving home tonight, catching all red lights
That's alright cause I don't want to be alone
There's nobody waitin' there, cold and empty bed
Words I wished Id said come on the radio

Ooh, oh, oh, and I don't know why I do this to myself
Ooh, oh, oh, I know you're with someone else

But in my mind were Somewhere In My Car
And it's raining hard on the streetlight glow
You got your lips on mine, its gasoline on fire
I never will forget, you grabbed my shirt and pulled it over my head
And your fingertips slide up and down my back
Breathin' hard, steamin' up the glass
Id give anything if I could bring you back home

So, I've been sleeping til noon in the same bedroom
Where I once held you and its breaking my heart
I should take down all those pictures from my wall
Promises we made won't fill this empty space

Ooh, oh, oh, and I dont know why I just cant let you go
Ooh, oh, oh, I know youre never coming back

But in my mind were somewhere in my car
And it's raining hard on the streetlight glow
You got your lips on mine, its gasoline on fire
I never will forget, you grabbed my shirt and pulled it over my head
And your fingertips slide up and down my back
Breathin' hard, steamin' up the glass
Id give anything if I could bring you back home

But in my mind were somewhere in my car
And it's raining hard on the streetlight glow
You got your lips on mine, its gasoline on fire
I never will forget, you grabbed my shirt and pulled it over my head
And your fingertips slide up and down my back

    Somewhere In My Car
  • This is the opening track of Keith Urban's Fuse album. Longtime producer Dann Huff had been in charge of the singer's previous five LP's, but the singer used ten separate producers to create the sounds on this release including Mike Elizondo (Eminem, Pink, Fiona Apple), Jay Joyce (Eric Church, Little Big Town, The Wallflowers), Nathan Chapman (Taylor Swift, The Band Perry) and Stargate (Beyoncé, Rihanna, Ne-Yo). Huff did co-produce "Somewhere in My Car," as well as playing guitar on the song.
  • Multi-instrumentalist Matt Mahaffey played keyboards and drums on this song. The Tennessee-bred, Los Angeles-based artist has produced and/or performed with a number of popular artists including Beck, Beyoncé and Pink as well as rapper, Luke Fiasco. He also composed the bluegrass style jingle for on-line travel site Expedia.com.
  • Fuse debuted atop the Billboard 200 All-Genre Album Chart. It arrived at #1 in the United States, Canada and Australia simultaneously, the first time that a male country artist had ever done so.
  • Urban penned the song with songwriter J.T. Harding, whose other hits include Jake Owen's "Alone With You." Keith actually had the first glimmer of the idea for the song in his car. "I had a day scheduled to write with him, and I had just gotten this song, this particular song that I heard and downloaded by a particular artist, and I loved the rhythm and the energy and the whole thing about it," recalled Keith. "I got J.T. and put him in the car, and turned it up as loud as I could and said, '[Yelling] We need something like this!' But a similar song structure – and the song was born of that."
  • When Urban played the song for the sold-out crowd during the 2014 CMA Music Festival, he said it was about "reminiscing and missing an old love."
  • Cars figure several times on the Fuse album. As well as this song, two other tracks, "Cop Car" and "Red Camaro" have a motor vehicle in the title. "The car theme figures heavily in a lot of my songs, 'cause I love cars and I love listening to music in cars, and I love all of the moments – all kinds of moments that we humans experience only in cars," said Urban. "As couples and arguments and makeup sessions and make-out sessions and everything, I just love everything to do with cars."
  • Though this song follows Urban's familiar car theme, it is actually about something a little different than just driving a motor vehicle. "I love trucks, cars, everything, and we've got some truck songs on the record," he told ABC News Radio. "But 'Somewhere in My Car' is really … it's not really about a car so much as it is what happens in the backseat of a car."
  • The song's music video was directed by John Urbano, who also filmed Urban's previous clip for "Cop Car." Shot in Cincinnati during his Raise 'Em Up Summer Tour, the visual features models Jehane Paris from Miami and Brazilian Rodrigo Calazans. "When Keith asked me to direct the video my head started swimming with ideas because the song is so cinematic," Said Urbano. "I wanted to make a music video where the imagery and song writing felt like they were created at the same time."

"From the beginning we both wanted this video to be hot with the concept being about how this guy goes mildly crazy thinking about his past relationship," he continued. "In his mind he's 'somewhere in his car', where he's having multiple flashbacks that build emotionally with each chorus."
