God Gave Rock And Roll To You II Lyrics

God gave rock and roll to you, gave rock and roll to you
Put it in the soul of everyone
Do you know what you want? You don't know for sure
You don't feel right, you can't find a cure
And you're gettin' less than what you're lookin' for

You don't have money or a fancy car
And you're tired of wishin' on a falling star
You gotta put your faith in a loud guitar

God gave rock and roll to you, gave rock and roll to you
Gave rock and roll to everyone (oh yeah)
God gave rock and roll to you, gave rock and roll to you
Put it in the soul of everyone

Now listen
If you wanna be a singer, or play guitar
Man, you gotta sweat or you won't get far
Cause it's never too late to work nine-to-five

You can take a stand, or you can compromise
You can work real hard or just fantasize
But you don't start livin' 'till you realize
I gotta tell ya
God gave rock and roll to you, gave rock and roll to you
Gave rock and roll to everyone
God gave rock and roll to you, gave rock and roll to you
Put it in the soul

God gave rock and roll to you (to everyone he gave the song to be sung)
Gave rock and roll to you, gave rock and roll to everyone

God gave rock and roll to you (to everyone he gave the song to be sung)
Gave rock and roll to you, saved rock and roll for everyone
Saved rock and roll

God gave rock and roll to you, gave rock and roll to you
Gave rock and roll to everyone
God gave rock and roll to you, gave rock and roll to you
Put it in the soul of everyone

God gave rock and roll to you, gave rock and roll to you
Gave rock and roll to everyone
God gave rock and roll to you, gave rock and roll to you put it in the soul
I know life sometimes can get tough and I know life sometimes can be a drag
But people, we have been given a gift, we have been given a road
And that road's name is rock and roll
Gave rock and roll to everyone
God gave rock and roll to you, gave rock and roll to you
Put it in the soul of everyone
God gave rock and roll to you, gave rock and roll to you
Gave rock and roll to everyone
God gave rock and roll to you, gave rock and roll to you

God Gave Rock And Roll To You II
  • This is a reworking of a 1973 song by the band Argent titled "God Gave Rock 'n' Roll to You." Kiss' version adds lyrics dedicated to Eric Carr, who lost his battle with carcinoma in 1991.

The Argent song was written by their lead singer Russ Ballard, who got a songwriting credit on the Kiss song along with Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons , and their producer Bob Ezrin.
  • This was the last Kiss song that Eric Carr appeared on. Carr was their drummer since 1982, and died of cancer in 1991 at age 42.

Carr also appeared in the video, which was shot while he was being treated for the disease. Bruce Kulick, who was the Kiss guitarist at the time, recalled in the book Tales From The Stage : "He played his heart out. He had more energy than I did. I couldn’t believe it, but it meant a lot to him. You can see in his face in the video and photos that it’s kind of drawn. You can tell that he wasn’t healthy and fighting a disease, but I must say that he was very brave."
  • In an interview with VH1, Gene Simmons said: "It's not just a cover song for a soundtrack, but a testament to Eric Carr, and I think a lot of people don't realize that."
  • Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley share lead vocals on this song, which they hadn't done since "Shout It Out Loud."

    Cold Gin Lyrics

    Whoo, alright
My heater's broke and I'm so tired
I need some fuel to build a fire
The girl next door, her lights are out, yeah
The landlord's gone, I'm down and out

Ooh, it's Cold Gin time again
    You know it'll always win
    Cold gin time again
You know it's the only thing
    That keeps us together, ow

It's time to leave and get another quart
Around the corner at the liquor store
Haha, the cheapest stuff is all I need
To get me back on my feet again

Ooh, it's cold gin time again
    You know it'll always win
    It's cold gin time again
You know it's the only thing
    That keeps us together, ow

    Whoa yeah
Ooh, it's cold gin time again
    You know it'll always win
    It's cold gin time again
You know it's the only thing

    Cold Gin
  • Kiss guitarist Ace Frehley wrote this song, which is about a guy who has only his gin to keep him warm. Frehley explained: "I wrote 'Cold Gin' in a New York subway, in my head, both lyrics and music. I had a spiral notebook with me. I never took a guitar lesson, nobody believes that. I didn't realize it was gonna become a Kiss classic."
  • Gene Simmons: "Ace [Frehley] brought in 'Cold Gin.' When we first heard it I remember being struck by that great opening guitar riff, which was the basis of the song. The problem we had with it was that after the verse and chorus, it didn't seem to go anywhere. It was an unfinished idea. I suggested a section in the middle of the song that became the riff part of the song. It changed the song from an 'A' voicing to a riff section in the key of 'G' and kept ascending up the scale until it finally wound up in an 'E.' Paul suggested a couple of arrangement modifications in the song, and presto, 'Cold Gin,' the complete song. I insisted that Ace should sing the song, but he refused and said that he preferred I sing it. The original version of the song as recorded on the first Kiss demo, changed very slightly through the years and was to remain a staple of our live concerts to this day." (thanks, Ken - LaSalle, Canada)
  • The irony of this song is that Gene Simmons, who sings it, doesn't drink and has never done drugs. Simmons claims that his only addiction is to sex, and that he's slept with over 4000 women. (thanks, Sid - Bryson City, NC)
  • This song was played at the funeral of the late guitarist (Dimebag) Darrell Abbott, as Kiss and Ace Frehley were his favorite band and guitarist. (thanks, Randy - Colerain Twp., OH)

    Well, it's a strange way
The way you look at me
    And it's a hard time
    Time you been givin' me
    Come on and open up
    Open up to me
    So you can realize
That I could set you free

    Strange Ways, twisted days
    Strange ways, twisted days

    Well, it's a strange place
    That you've been livin' in
    And it's a strange line
    You've been deliverin'
    I think I like it
    But I'm not really sure
    Don't wanna to fight it
    Just wanna feel some more

    Strange Ways
  • Ace Frehley: "I love 'Strange Ways.' I just came up with the riff. It was one of those inspired, heavy tunes. I didn't feel comfortable as a singer at that point. Gene and Paul are very intimidating people. A lot of the time they tend to make people feel inadequate. It took me a while to get over my feeling of inadequacy. I didn't think I was as good a singer as I am. It took me a while to come out of my shell. Whenever I wrote songs in the early days, I'd always ask Peter (drummer Peter Criss) to sing so he would get some of the spotlight. I wasn't that secure with myself as a singer around Gene, Paul and Peter. They were all confident lead singers and even though I knew I could sing, they didn't encourage it, so, I just kind of laid back. 'Strange Ways' was never performed live by KISS. I had forgotten just how heavy it was. One of my favorite guitar solos is the one on 'Strange Ways'. It was done in one take. I just closed my eyes and that's what came out. Usually, I record in the control room, but for that solo I went out and stood in front of the amp and got that wild feedback bend at the beginning. It sounded like a dinosaur."
  • Peter Criss: "Ace wrote it and I sang it. It was really different for me, really heavy and new. I'd never sung anything like it, it wasn't exactly R&B. It was a great challenge to me and I loved it." (thanks, Ken - LaSalle, Canada, for above 2)

    Alright
I remember the day that we met
I needed someone, you needed someone too, yeah
Spend time takin' all you could get
Givin' yourself was one thing you never could do

You played with my heart, played with my head
I got to laugh when I think of the things you said

'Cause I Stole Your Love, stole your love
Ain't never gonna let you go
I, oh yeah, stole your love, I stole your love
Stole your love, I stole your love

    You never stop runnin' around
You pick me up, then you could still put me down
You were the girl that nobody could own
Stay for a while, then you would leave me alone

I'm somethin' different, ain't like the rest
How does it feel to find out you're failin' your test

'Cause I stole your love, stole your love
Ain't never gonna let you go
I, I, stole your love, I stole your love
Stole your love, I stole your love

Listen, I stole your love, stole your love

    I Stole Your Love
  • Paul Stanley: "'I Stole Your Love' came quickly. It was kind of a sister song to 'Love Gun,' so it came around the same time. Again, swagger and attitude. That song was influenced in some ways by the Deep Purple song 'Burn.' There's an old standard called 'Fascinating Rhythm' which is what 'Burn' is based on. The songs I was writing at the time were of a certain type. I was trying to get closer to the things I liked in British bands that were my influences. And then, interestingly, once you had KISS play it, the song took off in a different direction because of the perspective of the players in KISS. So, if I had done those songs a hundred percent my way, they would have sounded more similar to those influences. That's the beauty of being in a band, each person brings their own perspective and takes it some place you might not." (thanks, Ken - LaSalle, Canada)

    Baby, if you're feeling good

    Deuce
  • Gene Simmons: "'Deuce' was written in my head on a bus. I heard the lick, the riff, the melody, the whole thing. 'Deuce' was written on a bass. It was a very linear song. As soon as the riff came, the first verse came, then I wrote the bridge, and then I wrote the chorus. We arranged it right on the spot and knew that it would be a staple for years. In fact, when we first went on tour with our first record, it was the opening song of the show and we would come back for encores and not have any songs left and do 'Deuce' again. Then if we got a second encore we would do 'Deuce' again. Lyrically, I had no idea what I was talking about. Sometimes stuff means a lot, sometimes it means nothing."
  • Paul Stanley: "The beginning of the song was me ripping off the Raspberries. The beginning of 'Deuce,' the thing that starts it off, is me, bastardizing 'Go All The Way.'"
  • Ace Frehley: "It's my favorite KISS song. When I auditioned for KISS, they said, "We're going to play you a song for you to listen to, and then try playing along. The song was 'Deuce,' and they played it as a three-piece and the song was in the key of 'A.' I thought, 'That's easy enough,' so I got up and wailed for four minutes playing lead work over it." 100,000 Years
  • This song begins with a bass riff by Gene Simmons . He recalled the story of the song to Classic Rock magazine: "I read a book called 100,000 Years where 100,000 years ago we were visited by aliens," he said. "Also Einstein's theory of relativity. I was reading all kinds of space and time continuance stuff, and it was all swirling around my head."

"I showed this stuff to Paul (Stanley), and he's going: 'What's 100,000 years?' I said: 'Let's just try it.' And then Paul came up with some stuff and I added the riff."

    Thrills in the Night Lyrics

Early morning, as she wakes from her sleep
9 to 5 is the day that she'll keep
Ties her hair up and her blouse buttoned tight
Gets her worked up as she waits for the night

All those people, tell me what would they say
If they knew her, how she hides it away
Locked inside, there's the start of a flame
And the feelings that she never will tame

Ooh as she's walking around like a mystery
Ooh there's a woman that nobody sees livin' inside

    [Chorus]
Thrills in the Night, far from the light, passion taking over
Prices she pays, all through the days, no one really knows her

In the evening when she takes to the street
She goes hunting with a body in heat
And desires she's kept hidden inside make her tingle
And she knows why she lies

Ooh as she's walking around like a mystery
Ooh there's a woman that nobody sees living inside

    [Chorus: x2]

See the stranger that she's pushing away
As she dresses for the start of a day
And desires she's kept hidden inside make her tingle
Yeah she knows why she lies

    [Chorus: x3]

    Thrills in the Night
  • This song is about a woman who lives a double life. During the day, she buttons up and puts in her eight hours at work, all the while thinking about the night, when she can satisfy her prurient desires. Her thrills come in the night, but she never lets on.
  • Paul Stanley of Kiss wrote this song with Jean Beauvoir, who was an early member of the band Plasmatics. He produced the Ramones albums Animal Boy (1986) and Brain Drain (1989).

Writer/s: CRISS, PETER / EZRIN, BOB / PENRIDGE, STANLEY
Publisher: Warner/Chappell Music, Inc., Universal Music Publishing Group
Lyrics licensed and provided by LyricFind

    Beth
  • This song dates back to a band called Chelsea, which future Kiss drummer Peter Criss was in with the guitarist Stan Penridge from 1970-1972. Criss and Penridge came up with a song called "Beck," which was about the wife of their guitarist Mike Brand, whose name was Becky. She was constantly interrupting their band practices asking when Mike was coming home, and the song was a joke directed at him.

In August 2000, less than a year before Penridge died at age 50, he explained to the KissFAQ : "'Beck' was written, almost word for word, from Mike Brand's responses to his wife's constant calls that interrupted our rehearsals. It got to the point where I wrote down his remarks over a period of three or four days in what I called my 'wizard book.' It was merely a small notebook I carried to jot down silly sayings, sketch in, to save ideas. If you look at the lyrics and view them as a hen-pecked hubby's remarks to his nagging wife you'll see what I mean. Just pause after every sentence and pretend there's a bitch at the other end of the line. You'll catch it - I'm sure. Absolutely not responsible at all. Another poorman's copyright by me in '70."

Penridge and Criss recorded a demo of "Beck" but never released the song. In 1976, after Criss joined Kiss, he and Penridge revived the song and with the help of producer Bob Ezrin, they changed the title to "Beth" and made it more sentimental, changing the end of the first verse from:

"I know you love complaining, but Beck what can I do?"
    to
"I think I hear them callin', Oh, Beth what can I do?"
  • A piano ballad not typical of Kiss' sound, this was released as the B-side of "Detroit Rock City," which was the third single from the album, following "Shout It Out Loud" and "Flaming Youth." These three first single releases were hard-driving anthems in the style of Kiss' previous hit "Rock And Roll All Nite," but the song that got the most attention was "Beth." Radio stations began playing the song, and the record company responded by flipping the sides of the single, with "Beth" becoming the A-side about six weeks later. It became the biggest hit for Kiss, and their only their only song to get significant airplay on Top 40 radio and even - gasp - Adult Contemporary formats.
  • Stan Penridge co-wrote and played guitar on most of the songs on Peter Criss' 1980 solo album Out of Control. Criss was best man at Stan's wedding (Ace Frehley was also in the bridal party) and they worked together for a few years after Criss left Kiss. In 2000, Penridge filed a lawsuit claiming he was owed money for some of the songs he wrote with Criss that Kiss recorded, including "Baby Driver," "Dirty Living," and "Baby, Don't You let me Down."
  • Peter Criss sang lead, as he did on several Kiss songs, including "Black Diamond" and "Hard Luck Woman." He was the only member of the band to perform on this song - Dick Wagner played the acoustic guitar and an orchestra was brought in. Wagner had toured with Lou Reed and Alice Cooper, but was living in New York and taking session work at the time. He wasn't credited on the album, but remembers also playing on the tracks "Sweet Pain" and "Flaming Youth."
  • Live performances of this song were a bit of a problem unless Kiss had an orchestra handy. When they didn't, Peter Criss would move to the front of the stage and sing it to a recorded backing track.
  • This song is a source of contention between Peter Criss and Kiss frontman Paul Stanley. Criss was fired from the band in 1980, and while he participated in reunion tours, he was replaced by other musicians: first Eric Carr and then Eric Singer (on later tours, Singer would sometimes sing this song like Criss used to).

As the co-writer/singer of Kiss' biggest hit, Criss stakes a solid claim to the band's legacy, but Stanley has maintained that Stan Penridge wrote just about all of "Beth," and Criss contributed very little to the song. "Peter had nothing to do with it," Stanley told Rolling Stone in 2014. "It was a lifeline that Peter hung on to validate himself, but it wasn't based on reality."

The rift between Criss and Stanley runs far deeper than a dispute over this song. When Kiss was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014, Stanley and Gene Simmons refused to reunite with the original lineup and ultimately decided not to perform at the ceremony.
  • Sitcom writer Paul Simms named the obnoxious secretary character from NewsRadio Beth after this song. The character had "no last name." (thanks, Brett - Edmonton, Canada)
  • Peter Criss married his first wife, Lydia, in 1970. They were still together when this song became a hit, which lent some veracity to the lyric about coming home to see your girl. In 1978, their relationship turned rocky when Criss took up with Debra Jensen, who was Miss January in Playboy that year. Peter and Lydia divorced in 1979 (with Lydia getting a reported $1 million settlement), and Peter and Debra were later married.
  • In our interview with Lydia Criss , she claims credit for coming up with the name "Beth." According to Lydia, Gene Simmons didn't want to call it "Beck" to avoid confusion with the guitarist Jeff Beck. She says she suggested "Beth" because she was thinking about the woman Neil Bogart of Kiss' label Casablanca Records was married to: the former Beth Weiss. Like the original inspiration for the song, Becky Brand, Beth was also a twin.

Lydia also says that she provided the line "You say you feel so empty that our house just ain't our home." She explained: "I was working for six years of our marriage and supporting Peter. When I finally stopped working, I said, 'I feel so empty. I feel like this house isn't even my home.' And he put that in the song. Because I was used to paying the bills, and being a Scorpio, kind of controlling things. When I moved, I didn't have control anymore, so I felt a little empty, and they put it in a song."
  • This was used in a 2015 commercial for the Volkswagen Passat where a husband gets a call from his wife, Beth, that shows up on his car information system. He ignores it, and runs off to join their kids for some fun and adventure. Driving home with the kids asleep in the back seat, he tells the vehicle: "Text Beth: What can I do?" The reply: "Pick up milk."

Rock And Roll All Nite Lyrics

You show us everything you've got
You keep on dancin' and the room gets hot
You drive us wild, we'll drive you crazy
You say you wanna go for a spin
The party's just begun, we'll let you in
You drive us wild, we'll drive you crazy
You keep on shoutin', you keep on shoutin'

I wanna rock and roll all night and party every day
I wanna rock and roll all night and party every day
I wanna rock and roll all night and party every day
I wanna rock and roll all night and party every day

You keep on saying you'll be mine for a while
You're lookin' fancy and I like your style
You drive us wild, we'll drive you crazy
You show us everything you've got
Baby, baby that's quite a lot
And you drive us wild, we'll drive you crazy
You keep on shoutin', you keep on shoutin'

I wanna rock and roll all night and party every day

  • Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley of Kiss wrote this track, which became their signature song and was usually played as the last song in their encores. Stanley told Bruce Pollock: "Originally Gene and I would tend to help each other fill in the gaps. 'Rock and Roll All Night' came about because we felt we needed an anthem, a song that could be the rallying cry for all of our fans. So I went back to the hotel and came up with the chorus and the melody. Then I went down to see Gene and he came up with the verses. We used to write a lot like that. As Gene and I became better writers we became either less willing to bend on our individual ideas, or it may have been that we both figured our songs would be stronger if developed by the person who wrote them." (Pollock is a contributing writer to Songfacts. Check out his column They're Playing My Song.)
  • Kiss performed this at the 1999 Super Bowl pre-game show with dancers dressed like the band.
  • This was featured in the movie Dazed And Confused.
  • Kiss performed this at the closing ceremonies of the 2002 winter Olympics from Salt Lake City, while Katarina Witt and Kristi Yamaguichi skated to it.
  • The chorus of this song is also heard at the beginning of the song "Detroit Rock City", from the Destroyer album, as part of the intro to the original version of "Detroit Rock City." (thanks, Jeff - Haltom City, TX)
  • Kiss produced a video for this where they performed the song along with the cast of That '70s Show. (thanks, Patrick - Conyers, GA)
  • On the Kiss Unplugged album, each of the original band members sang a line of this as they played it on Acoustic instruments. (thanks, Gary - Steeleville, IL)
  • The members of Kiss provided their voices for an episode of Family Guy where Peter and Lois are following a Kiss tour. As the band plays this song, they hold the microphone up to Lois in the crowd to sing along after the line, "I wanna rock and roll all nite and..." Even though most people (including non-Kiss fans) know the words, Lois doesn't know the words and says "have a wonderful time." This leads to her revelation that she just pretends to like Kiss for Peter's sake, which upsets him until they go to a restaurant and meet the band, who recognize Lois from when she was a groupie known as "Loose Lois." Peter is honored that his wife slept with Kiss. (thanks, Bert - Pueblo, NM)
  • The American rock band Poison recorded a cover of this song on the soundtrack of the 1987 film Less Than Zero. It later appears on their 2006 compilation The Best of Poison: 20 Years of Rock and again on their 2007 cover album Poison'd!. (thanks, Alec Thorp - Yorktown Heights, NY)
  • On May 1, 2009, Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons' voices appeared on the television show The Fairly OddParents on the channel Nickelodeon. Kiss plays the role of the "Galactic Guardians of the White Wand." The song "Rock and Roll All Nite" is played at the beginning and end of their concert. (thanks, Zach - Pocahontas, AR)

    Plaster Caster Lyrics

Baby's getting anxious, the hour's getting late
The night is almost over, she can't wait

Oh, things are complicating, my love is in her hands
And there's no more waiting, she understands

The plaster's gettin' harder and my love is perfection
A token of my love for her collection, her collection

Plaster Caster, grab a hold of me faster
And if you wanna see my love, just ask her
And my love is the plaster
    And yeah, she's the collector
She wants me all the time to inject her

The plaster's gettin' harder and my love is perfection
A token of my love for her collection

    Plaster caster, plaster caster
Grab a hold of me faster, plaster, faster
And if you wanna see my love, just ask her, ask her
    Go on, ask her

The plaster's gettin' harder and my love is perfection
A token of my love for her collection, her collection

    Plaster caster, plaster caster
Grab a hold of me faster, plaster, faster
If you wanna see my love, just ask her, ask her

    Plaster caster, plaster caster
She wants my love to last her, last her, last her
And she calls me by the name of master, master

    Plaster caster, plaster caster
Grab a hold of me faster, plaster, faster
If you wanna see my love, just ask her, ask her

    Plaster caster, plaster caster
Grab a hold of me faster, plaster, faster
And if you wanna see my love, just ask her, ask her
    Plaster caster, plaster caster

    Plaster Caster Song Chart
  • This song is about a Chicago groupie known as Cynthia Plaster Caster. When they were assigned an art project to plaster cast "something solid that could retain it's shape," Cynthia and her friends Dianne and Marilyn came up with a clever way to get backstage and have a unique interaction with band members (or band's members): they would made molds of their penises in plaster of paris.

Carrying around an official looking "kit," their plan worked and they succeeded in making casts for many musicians and their associates, most notably Jimi Hendrix, who had an exceptionally large cast. The Plaster Casters are discussed in detail in a chapter on groupies in Jerry Hopkins' book The Rock Story, and some excellent reading is available at Cynthia's Website . (thanks, Ekristheh - Halath)
  • How did Cynthia Plaster Caster feel about this song? Here's what she told us in 2014:

"When someone first alerted me to the song 'Plaster Caster,' I wasn't too thrilled. It seemed like Gene Simmons wrote the song to make people think that he'd been casted, which he most certainly never was. But years later when Evan Dando's band the Lemonheads covered it, I started to notice how catchy the melody was. Nowadays, I'm all right with the song. Don't LOVE it, but I like it. If it's changed my life, I'm not aware of it."
  • The members of Kiss were never molded by Cynthia, but the band is notorious for their backstage activities with groupies. Gene Simmons is rumored to have a collection of Polaroids that would make Larry Flynt blush.
  • Cynthia Plaster Caster is one of the greatest groupies of the golden era of groupies, which was the mid-'60s to the late '70s. Competition was fierce for the attention of rock stars, and Cynthia had a gimmick that made her so renown, musicians would seek her out. Beyond the gimmick, however, Cynthia was very astute: she worked in a team, doing most of her damage with her apprentice Dianne. She had a penchant for British acts, so she learned their dirty language, which got their attention; she knew that "rig," "chopper" and "Hampton wick" were all cockney slang for penis, so she would often open an encounter by asking, "how's your rig," then introducing her services. A master of marketing, she had business cards and T-shirts, branding her and Dianne "The Plaster Casters of Chicago." She was so successful that impostors came on the scene and started stealing her act, but boys in the band always wanted the real thing.
  • Frank Zappa considered Cynthia a brilliant conceptual artist, and brought her to California. Zappa, who was introduced to the Casters by Eric Clapton, never got casted, but was always coming up with ideas for how they could present their art. The casts have been exhibited from time to time, but Zappa didn't live long enough to pull off his idea for a "Cock Rock" exhibit featuring the casts.
