Cowboys From Hell Lyrics

Under the lights where we stand tall
Nobody touches us at all
Showdown, shootout, spread fear within, without
We're gonna take what's ours to have
Spread the word throughout the land
They say the bad guys wear black
We're tagged and can't turn back

You see us comin'
And you all together run for cover
We're takin' over this town

Here we come, reach for your gun
And you better listen well my friend, you see
It's been slow down below,
Aimed at you, we're the Cowboys From Hell
Deed is done again, we've won
Ain't talking no tall tales friend
Cause high noon, your doom
Comin' for you we're the cowboys from hell

Pillage the village, trash the scene
But better not take it out on me
Cause a ghost town is found
Where your city used to be
So out of the darkness and into the light
Sparks fly everywhere in sight
From my double barrel, twelve gauge,
Can't lock me in your cage

You see us comin'
And you all together run for cover
We're takin' over this town

Here we come, reach for your gun
And you better listen well my friend, you see
It's been slow down below,
Aimed at you, we're the cowboys from hell
Deed is done again, we've won
Ain't talking no tall tales friend
Cause high noon, your doom
Comin' for you we're the cowboys from hell

Here we come, reach for your gun
And you better listen well my friend, you see
It's been slow down below,
Aimed at you, we're the cowboys from hell
Deed is done again, we've won
Ain't talking no tall tales friend
Cause high noon, your doom
Comin' for you we're the cowboys from hell
Step aside, we're the cowboys from hell

Cowboys From Hell
  • This is about Pantera coming out of Texas and emerging on the heavy metal scene. Few people would associate Texas with a band like this.
  • Pantera splits songwriting credits equally, since all members contribute to the writing process. In our interview with their bass player Rex Brown , he said that guitarist Dimebag Darrell did the heavy lifting on this one. "That was Dime all the way," he said. "Except I play guitar on some of that - the rhythm section that became the mid-bridge break, and also the solo part, I wrote all that. Other than that, that was all Dime."

    Message In Blood Lyrics

There's a place that I keep deep inside me
    It can trigger my mind
All along I knew it has been with me
Since I was just a child

I just summon power within my soul
It has given me life, beyond life
I take blame for my murderous problem
    My signature always reminds

    It's a Message In Blood
    It's your cryptic warning
    Within the message in blood
    Marks the years of pain,
And your godforsaken ending to life

    I'm provoked into sick confrontations,
    Brutal time after time,
Bed of nails, suffocation, life's ending,
    Slay in different designs
One man's misery is another man's mystery
No one cares to understand my
    Demented means
Sticks and stones can break all your brittle bones,
    Epitaph written at your feet

    It's a message in blood
    It's your cryptic warning
    Within the message in blood
    Marks the years of pain,
And your godforsaken ending to life

    It's a message in blood
    It's your cryptic warning
    Within the message in blood
    Marks the years of pain,
And your godforsaken ending to life

    Message In Blood
  • Lead singer Phil Anselmo wrote this song from the perspective of Charles Manson, whose followers left messages in blood after killing their victims.

Manson built up a group of followers in the late '60s that were known as his "Family." His cult grew to about 100 people, with a few ardent followers willing to kill on his behalf. On August 9, 1969, four members of this group brutally murdered four people (including the actress Sharon Tate) at a home in Beverly Hills, California. The following night, they killed again, murdering a wealthy couple: Leno and Rosemary LaBianca.

After the Tate murders, one of the killers scrawled the word "pig" on the front door in Tate's blood; various messages, including the phrase "Healter Skelter," were written in blood at the LaBianca home.
  • Phil Anselmo has pointed out that Charles Manson never actually killed anybody. He often makes the point that while Manson is notorious for the crimes, everyone has free will, and the actual killers deserve the blame. This belief in personal accountability is a core precept in metal: if Pantera's listeners did everything their songs told them to, they would all be in jail and Anselmo would get the blame just like Manson.
  • Pantera made another Charles Manson reference in their 2000 song "Uplift" - the first line of the song is a quote by Manson: "No sense makes sense."

Phil Anselmo's band Superjoint Ritual also has a song about Manson called "Creepy Crawl," which is on their 2002 album Use Once and Destroy.
  • In our interview with Rex Brown , the Pantera bassist explained that they worked up this song at a west Forth Worth club called Joe's Garage, where the band played some of their early gigs. Since they didn't have a rehearsal space at the time, Pantera would use the clubs to practice and work on songs.

    Walk Lyrics

Can't you see I'm easily bothered by persistence
One step from lashing out at you
You want in to get under my skin
    And call yourself a friend
I've got more friends like you
    What do I do?

    Is there no standard anymore?
What it takes, who I am, where I've been
    Belong
You can't be something you're not
    Be yourself, by yourself
    Stay away from me
    A lesson learned in life
Known from the dawn of time

    [Chorus]
    Respect, Walk

Run your mouth when I'm not around
    It's easy to achieve
You cry to weak friends that sympathize

Can you hear the violins playing your song?
Those same friends tell me your every word

    Is there no standard anymore?
What it takes, who I am, where I've been
    Belong
You can't be something you're not
    Be yourself, by yourself
    Stay away from me
    A lesson learned in life
Known from the dawn of time

    [Chorus]

    Are you talking to me?
    No way punk
    Walk on home boy

    Walk
  • This is about people the band considered "posers." These were people who pretended to be part of the heavy metal scene, but weren't really into it. The band thought these people were just trying to be trendy. (thanks, Craig - Dublin, Ireland)
  • The main riff was written while the band was warming up for a show on guitarist Dimebag Darrell's practice amp when Phil Anselmo shouted, "We gotta write some s--t for this new album." Dime immediately started playing the opening riff, and Vinnie tapped the drums on the wall. They were filming for the home video and caught it all on tape to remember the riff. (thanks, Angus - Halifax, Canada)
  • This song was used by professional wrestler Rob Van Dam as his entrance music when he worked for the promotion Extreme Championship Wrestling. (thanks, Adolfo - State College, PA)
  • This was also the professional wrestler Edge's theme song while he was an indy-wreslter under the name "Sexton Hardcastle." (thanks, Eric - Baileys Harbor, WI)

    Use My Third Arm Lyrics

Enlight your sense of thought, of touch, of real, a shield,
    An underground for this coward.
Building a blood in water scent. It's like some raping,
    without judgement.
Boy in a pocket. Balls in a bag. Serve and
Protect you. His dick his gun, his brain his badge.

A faster way to kill them all would take too goddamn long.
Absorb through pores the great escape. Kill that fuck
to show him up. Equal his displeasure now. Stab his
Ass, a reminded past of what the fuck we live for.

    Ourselves.

Arm yourself. A branch. A third arm. Extend your health,
Crawl inside euphoria. Building a blood in water scent. It's
Like a scraping. It's entrapment. Boy in a pocket. Balls in
A bag. Perverted handle. His getting by is a fisted fuck.
A faster way to exterminate them takes too fucking
long. Absorb through pores the great escape.
Kill that fuck to show him up. Equal his displeasure now.
Stab his ass, a reminded past of what the fuck we live for.
    Ourselves.

Half assed for most his life. Piss poor little ham. NARO
boy- A fake fuck limp dick. Sucking up to the man.
And the world. We need a fucking cold war.

    Use My Third Arm
  • Frontman Philip Anselmo told Artist Direct how the song came together. "I know the middle breakdown part was Rex Brown 's riff," he said. "It was part of a song called 'Piss' at one time. I did always like that riff because it had a certain Black Sabbath flavor to it."

"I think there were instances where Vinnie Paul would come up with drum patterns and we would all fall in accordingly," Anselmo continued. "'Use My Third Arm' sort of reminds me of how a song like 'Primal Concrete Sledge' started out. Here's Vince playing this massive percussive part. Dimebag Darrell is looking at me, and I'm looking at him like, 'F--k man, let's do something. This thing kicks ass. Where's the riff?' [Laughs] Dimebag and Rex would fall in accordingly. We'd get to start shaping the song up and putting into a structure that made sense and was best for the song."

    25 Years Lyrics

I vent my frustration at you old man
After years your ears will hear
    You screamed you tried
    It's words of a weakling
And promises made by a liar
    (drunken liar)
Now you pick up that splintered chair
That was aiming for your head
A head that should have been long ago
    Kicked in by me...Alone
(I won't lose a second of sleep for this)
    Don't touch me
    Don't touch me
    Don't touch me

    No
    Ever again
    Don't touch me
    Don't touch me
    Don't touch me

Orphaned to the dope and drinks
I learned my lesson well somehow from you
No tears. Can't clutch my regrets
    But these years of detachment
Have left me with demons now surfacing
(I'm becoming more than you'll be)
You never knew the answers to
Any of my questions, did you?
You made up all the answers to
    My unimportant existence
(You don't have to dump me off, not again)
    Don't touch me
    Don't touch me
    Don't touch me

    Fuck no, never again
    Don't touch me
    Don't touch me
    Don't touch me

    Fuck no, never again
    Don't touch me
    Don't touch me
    Don't touch me

I vow, lest I die tomorrow
You'll never be the father I am
The bastard father to the thousands
    Of the ugly, criticized, unwanted.
The ones with fathers just like you
    We're fucking you back
    Fucking you back
I'm shoving my life right down your throat.
    Can I
Find the guts? Can I feel the heart?
Look at the ground as you choke me up,
    Does it taste like tequila?
    Or failure?
    We're fucking you back

    25 Years
  • This song about Phillip Anselmo 's early life was the first track written for Far Beyond Driven. The vocalist told Artist Direct about the background to the song. "That began with my infatuation with The Melvins and their interpretation of The Melvins—playing things drone-y, slower, and unpredictably. That song itself is so different for us in a way because of its elongated intro and almost a perfect Pantera piece. The verses are so signature f--king Pantera it's ridiculous."
