  • Lost on the River: The New Basement Tapes is an album produced by T Bone Burnett consisting of 20 tracks based on handwritten Bob Dylan lyrics. They were penned by the legendary songwriter in 1967 during the period in which he created his noted album The Basement Tapes. Burnett assembled some of his favorite songwriters in the basement of the Capitol studio in LA to put music to the words.
  • This song features Elvis Costello on lead vocals. Jim James (of My Morning Jacket), Marcus Mumford (of Mumford & Sons), Rhiannon Giddens (of the Carolina Chocolate Drops) and Taylor Goldsmith (of Dawes) also contributed to the album. "None of us felt we were dealing with something sacrosanct," Costello commented to The Daily Telegraph. "There's a sense of playfulness in the folio. They range from the completely barmy to wonderful, beautiful, well-constructed lyrics that are right there waiting to be sung. We were walking in, all this time later, to find ideas in a box and turn them into songs."

  • Lost on the River: The New Basement Tapes is an album featuring a collective of musicians recording under the moniker The New Basement Tapes. The record consists of a series of tracks based on handwritten Bob Dylan lyrics penned in 1967 during the period in which he created The Basement Tapes.
  • This romantic ode features the voice of Marcus Mumford. "I think Dylan's off-cuts are better than anyone else's prime cuts," Mumford commented to The Daily Telegraph. "Some were undeveloped but others were complete ideas that never saw the light of day. There was enough to write 40 songs, which is extraordinary, because that was like one summer's writing for him. It was a fascinating period of his life. He spent the summer of love holed up in a house while everyone else was down the road at Woodstock dropping acid and taking their clothes off."
  • The song hinges on the chorus: "Now you know, everywhere on earth you go, you're gonna have me as your man," as Mumford tells his love interest how it is and how it's going to be. "Reading through the lyrics, I think there's a conflict," the Mumford & Sons frontman said. "He has post-tour blues, where you come off the road and it's a weird adjustment to normal life. He was really relishing it, newly married and enjoying domesticity and rural life. But you can see him battle with it too."

  • Lost on the River: The New Basement Tapes is an album featuring a collective of musicians recording under the moniker The New Basement Tapes. The record consists of a series of tracks based on lyrics handwritten by Bob Dylan in 1966-67 with each artist taking the lead on adding the music and vocals for several songs each. T Bone Burnett oversaw the production.
  • This song features the voice of Marcus Mumford, who also supplied the tune for Dylan's lyrics. Mojo magazine asked Mumford what drew him to the words of Stranger? He replied: "I liked that it was a bit dirty, I liked that it was a bit gritty."

    "There's a conversation within the song, so I enjoyed singing as the object and the subject," Mumford added. "That's a style you find through reading people like T.S. Eliot who jump around in conversations all the time, and Dylan does that all the time in songs. It also has a kind of outlaw feel to it, and that was fun to play with."
