Duality

Songwriters - especially those in the Punk Rock realm - are prone to a range of emotions that they often struggle with and express in their songs. In this song, Bayside lead singer Anthony Raneri explains how he often feels two conflicting emotions, like thrill and apathy. That's his duality.

Bayside writes their own songs and shares the composition credits equally. "Duality" is the only song they co-wrote with someone else: they wrote it with their producer Shep Goodman. Anthony Raneri told us how it came together: "Him and I had our manager at the time, Nate Albert, who played guitar in the Mighty, Mighty Bosstones, the three of us got together in the studio while we were almost done recording that record. We had a couple more days left to record. The whole record was done, and then the three of us were having lunch and one of them was kicking around on an acoustic guitar while we were all eating, and that came out."

Don't Shoot Me Santa Song Chart

With the exception of the Savior of the World himself, that white-bearded guy who bring gifts to the homes of the well-behaved children on 24th December seems to crop up in more Christmas songs than any other seasonal character. The Killers added to the Kris Kringle oeuvre with this ditty about being a good boy for Santa. Released on November 27, 2007 as a digital download, proceeds from this tune went to AIDS charities as part of the Bono-headed Red campaign.

The video was directed, edited, and co-produced by Las Vegas native Matthew Gray Gubler, who is best known for playing Spencer Reid on Criminal Minds. The role of Santa was performed Ryan Pardey. The Halloween Town frontman has been a road fixture with The Killers since 2004 and is known to die-hard fans of the band as The Captain. The Sawdust hidden track "Questions With the Captain" was written by the band about Purdey. In 2012, Pardey appeared as Santa again for The Killers on their Christmas single "I Feel It in My Bones."

Killers frontman Brandon Flowers recalled to NME: "Our buddy who's an actor on a show called Criminal Minds, which is pretty successful, he went to school with our buddy who played Santa. His parents own a strange-desert ranch and so we were able to shoot it out there."

Fun Fact: To visit every child in the world on Christmas Eve, Santa has to travel at 3,000 times the speed of sound.

Composers Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz, who first collaborated on Disney's Pocahontas with "Colors Of The Wind," reunited for Enchanted, a combination spoof/send-up of Disney classics. The duo called this love-at-first-sight song, performed by Adams' Princess Giselle and Marsden's Prince Edward, "the pivotal assignment... because there were so many preconceptions with that number. We wanted to put it back in the era of Snow White and Cinderella, and write something that was reflective of that."

Even with Disney veteran Menken on board, the team had trouble capturing the feel of the company's pioneering classics. He explained to Entertainment Weekly: "Giselle is very much a Walt-era Disney heroine, more of a Cinderella than a Belle. We needed a 'classic Walt' sound, but no one could agree on what that was because we weren't around for it! Everyone had an opinion. Our director, Kevin Lima - I love this guy and he's a great director, but he could not make up his mind on the music. We had to fly him to my studio in New York and sit him down and not let him leave until he had agreed on a piece of music because otherwise it was just going to go on forever."

The track peaked at #6 on the country chart.

The music video, directed by Kristin Barlowe, was filmed in Wildwood, New Jersey, and follows the singer strolling the Wildwood Boardwalk and Cape May beach. Aldean's daughter Keeley and his then-wife Jessica make cameo appearances.
