Picture Me In A Hospital

Babyshambles' bass guitarist Drew McConnell suffered horrendous injuries after being knocked off his bike by a car in East London, suffering multiple breaks to his spine and various bones. This collaboration with vocalist Peter Doherty was inspired by his slow, painful, but ultimately full recovery. He told NME: "This is about Peter coming to visit me after my car accident. One of my first memories was the paramedic telling me I'd broken my spine in three places. Then my next memory is on a slab with doctors all around me. And then the memory after that is waking up to somebody brushing the hair away from my eyes, and I looked up and it was Peter."

Co-penned by Babyshambles frontman Peter Doherty a decade after he first admitted to problems with addiction, this Country-flavored song is a frank confrontation of the ugliness of his condition. Doherty commented to NME: "This was mostly written by (band associate) John Robinson from The Bandits who I wrote 'I Am the Rain' with. It's got a nice, friendly guitar lick, Á  la Bob Dylan."

Babyshambles bassist Drew McConnell told NME how the collaboration came about: "When I wrote it, I realized the middle-eight sounded like The Vaccines," he said. "I thought they'd think I was ripping them off so asked Justin to sing on it. He e-mailed me to say they were going to be in town for a show, so we went and had lunch. He told me he'd come up with something. I was like, 'No, let's do it now,' and they all burst out laughing. But he came to the studio and got it really quickly."
