Shut Up And Hold On Lyrics

Just got paid I got a little money
Aftershave and after a honey
Got my name on a shot of Jack whiskey
Gonna roll with me, you gotta roll quickly

Get in, sit down, Shut Up And Hold On
Can't wait, too late, it's time to get gone
Show up downtown, get us a buzz on
Get in, sit down, shut up and hold on
(Oh oh oh oh oh oh, Oh oh oh oh oh oh)

Shoot a little pool, shoot a little 8 ball
Ain't goin' home
Make a little phone call
Feelin' pretty good
Stumble out the front door
She pulls up in a farm girl Ford singin'

Get in, sit down, shut up, and hold on
Can't wait, too late, it's time to get gone
Find us a dirt road get a groove on
Get in, sit down, shut up and hold on

There's no time like night time and the moonlight
To have a good time
Baby let's throw down, don’t slow down
If I'm gonna go down
I'm gonna go down crazy
Get in, sit down, shut up and hold on
Can't wait, too late, it's time to get gone
Find us a dirt road and get a groove on
Get in, sit down, shut up and hold on
(Oh oh oh oh oh oh, Oh oh oh oh oh oh)

Get in.
Sit down.
Shut up.
Hold on!

There's no time than the night time
In the moonlight, to have a good time
Baby lets throw down, don’t slow down
If I go down, I'm gonna go down crazy
(Oh oh oh oh oh oh, Oh oh oh oh oh oh,
Oh oh oh oh oh oh, Oh oh oh oh oh oh)

Shut Up And Hold On
  • Long term Keith collaborator Bobby Pinson helped the singer write this swamp-stomp opener from his Drinks After Work album. Keith recalled: "Bobby brought that to me and it was one of those songs. I didn't know if it was a single, but I knew it was kind of what we do live - it's fun and just feels like being in an amphitheater or at a festival."
  • This was one of the last tunes Keith cut for Drinks After Work, so he pushed it a bit and the song bloomed in the studio. He recalled: "We were messing around with the vocal and trying to get some different drum sounds. We got the groove where we wanted it and I started singing, but it was almost strange. It wasn't laying down quite like I had thought when we were writing. But when they sent me the mix I said, 'Wow, that thing really took off.' When people on the team heard it I started getting lots of text messages about how much they love it. It sort of rose from the ashes."

    Little Miss Tear Stain
  • Toby Keith penned this R&B-tinged cut with Scotty Emerick. Keith commented: "That's a tongue-in-cheek stab with a great line: 'Would you like to just go and talk, or is never still a good time to call?' I don't know, probably pushing it a little too far as usual. It's a little more kiss-off than it is goodbye, but it's comical. It's got a great groove. I really, really like that song."

Nashville songwriter Scotty Emerick has collaborated with Toby Keith on many of his hits including "I'm Just Talkin' About Tonight" and "As Good As I Once Was."

    Last Living Cowboy Lyrics

    Last Living Cowboy
  • Keith penned this bouncy, Bluegrass cut with frequent collaborator Scotty Emerick . The song features harmonica, banjo and honky tonk rhythms. "This is the kind of stuff I wish would work on the radio," commented Keith. "This reminds me of growing up, cutting your teeth in the Texas and Oklahoma beer joints and seeing these singer/songwriters come through - Red Steagall, Guy Clark and those kinds of guys 30 years ago. It just reminds me of that old cowboy country and melody. We put a pretty good lyric on it."
  • The subject of the song remains stuck in an old fashioned lifestyle. "'Last Living Cowboy' is more along the stuff that I normally do," Keith told Radio.com . "Talking about this old man that's in the modern day and he's still hanging on to the last century values and fashion. It's comical."

Whole Lot More Than That Lyrics

If I want a new truck, gonna need more money
If I want more sugar, gonna need a new honey
If I'm going to the dance, gotta get a new hat
Getting over you's gonna take me a Whole Lot More Than That

If I'm gonna watch a game, gonna need me a boob tube
If I'm gonna to the lake, gotta take an igloo
If I'm gonna catch a buzz, gonna need me a twelve pack
Getting over you's gonna take me a whole lot more than that

Going to need more whiskey, than one man can drink
Drown this memory, that just won't sink
I've hit rock bottom, in this bottle of Jack
Getting over you's gonna take me a whole lot more than that

If I need me a hangout, I'll find me a hot spot
If I need me a new song, gonna find me a jukebox
If I need me a kitty, I'll find me a cat
Getting over you's gonna take me a whole lot more than that

Going to need more whiskey, than one man can drink
Drown this memory, that just won't sink
'Cause I've hit rock bottom, in this bottle of Jack
So getting over you's gonna take me a whole lot more than that

Going to need more whiskey, than one man can drink
Drown this memory, that just won't sink
I've hit rock bottom, in this bottle of Jack
Getting over you's gonna take me a whole lot more than that
Getting over you's gonna take me a whole lot more than that

Gonna take a little bit more than that

    Whole Lot More Than That
  • Keith penned this song with his longtime collaborator Bobby Pinson. He recalled: "That's me and Bobby on a bus run. We started spitting those lyrics out - if I'm gonna do this, I'm gonna need that - and just kept finding those over a couple days. We kind of worked the verse one day, then went and did something else and came back. I had another one and he had another one and we put them together, then we rhymed them and took it in the studio."

Hard Way To Make An Easy Living Lyrics

Some people say he’s a wealthy man
But he built his house with his own two hands
On a piece of land that’s as far as you can see

They call him lucky, but they don’t know
He’s up and running when the rooster crows
And he’s still in the fields with his supper cold
    But if you ask me,

It’s a hard hard way to make your way
In a world that don’t care what you pay,
What you earn or what you take,
Or how much you’re not giving
Life’s a tough old row to hoe,
Trust in God with the seeds you sow,
And always know it’s a hard hard way of making easy living

His flatbed it was shiny and new back in 1992
It’s been a few since he had ‘im a year like that
He ain’t got time to complain,
Hay on the ground and it looks like rain and,
Pray it ain’t like the twister that came back in ’88 and laid everything flat

It’s a hard hard way to make your way
In a world that don’t care what you pay,
What you earn or what you take,
Or how much you’re not giving
Life’s a tough old row to hoe,
Trust in God with the seeds you sow,
And always know it’s a hard hard way of making easy living

They take for granted for what he’s planted in that stubborn ground,
But the cattle and the cotton know that they don’t know in town

It’s a hard hard way to make your way
In a world that don’t care what you pay,
What you earn or what you take,
Or how much you’re not giving
Life’s a tough old row to hoe,
Trust in God with the seeds you sow,
And always know it’s a hard hard way of making easy living

    Makin’ easy living,
    Making easy living.

Hard Way To Make An Easy Living
  • Keith penned this tribute to farmers with his long term collaborator Bobby Pinson. He recalled: "We wrote that up in a cabin starting with some minor chords. It was one of those deals where we could just go down the neck of the guitar trying to find what chord goes next. You wind up back at one again and go, how'd we get back here? Then you start trying to write to it."

"I've got a friend who has about 10,000 acres and everybody thinks he's really well off," Keith continued. "I told Bobby that people think because this guy does a million dollars' worth of ranching business and a million dollars' worth of cattle business every year that he's sitting good. But it's a hard way to make an easy living. He's got lots of bills, lots of equipment, lots of labor, and puts in lots of time. When you think about running cattle and farming 10,000 acres - you may take in million, but probably 80% of that goes right back in. And then you still have to live, do upkeep for the ranch - you're always fencing, fetching cows, trucking in equipment and working. I usually write from the hub out, but this started with the story then we worked through a chorus. Tom T. Hall style - start at the front and tell the story."
  • As a successful country star, who has had to work hard for his wealth, Keith may be also delivering a message about where he came from. When asked on 101.5 the Eagle's Jon & Amanda Show whether he's become too rich to be truly country, he replied: "They just see me now. They didn't see where you came from; what your roots were like," he says. "If you've been poor before… no matter how much money you get, you're still not comfortable with it. You never forget what it felt like to be without."

    Chuckie's Gone Lyrics

    Chuckie's Gone
  • This song was written in memory of Toby's bandleader and bassist Chuck Goff, who passed away in 2013. Keith recalled: "He lived here in Oklahoma and died right before those massive tornadoes came through. So I started it out with that. He stood by me on my left for 25 years. 'Your bass is there where you used to stand and even though we got a killer band, I still look up in the middle of the song and realize Chuckie's gone.'"

The song follows Keith's 2009 cut "Cryin' for Me (Wayman's Song)" in paying tribute to a fallen friend.
  • Keith wrote in the Drinks After Work liner notes: "This album is dedicated in memory of Chuck Goff, our longtime bandleader-bass player,. He will live on forever in our thoughts and in our performances. We miss ya, Shmudlo."
