Ella Henderson wrote this song with US producer Babyface, who was her biggest idol as a kid. The songstress recalled to The Sun that things didn't go quite to plan the first time she met the R&B superstar. "Me and my family call this the embarrassing moment," Henderson recalled. "I was playing a game of how many baby carrots I could fit in my mouth when he walked through the door and said, 'Hey, Ella.'"

"I must have had about 13 in there. I couldn't talk at the biggest moment of my life."

Henderson explained the song's meaning to Artist Direct : "This record was a story about a certain situation," she said. "You're a young woman, and you're putting yourself out there. Sometimes, girls can feel ashamed of themselves. Guys can feel that way too."

This song is all about a man who is super vain. Henderson told HMV.com the tracks on Chapter One are snapshots of how she felt at the time. On this song, for instance she said, "I was so angry at the person in that track and out came this track that's really full of attitude."

Henderson told MTV UK the song shows a much more edgy side to her. "I think a lot of the time, people imagine me as a very soft spoken artist… this does showcase another side of me," she explained. "Not that I'm trying to shock or anything like that, it's just you know (there) are different sides to everybody's character and different things that people can relate to."

Ella Henderson wrote the song with Al Shux, whose other songwriting credits include Jay-Z's "Empire State of Mind" and Lana Del Rey's "Young And Beautiful."

Henderson explained the background to the song: "It's about the most self-centered person I've ever met," she said. "Everyone has experienced that type of person. They love themselves before they can love anyone else. 'Mirror Man' is probably my favorite song to sing live. I'm not about attitude at all, but the song is so honest and rude that everyone loves it, and they're desperate to discover who Mirror Man is."

Asked by OfficialCharts.com if the subject of the song is aware it's about them, Henderson replied: "Probably not because they love themselves that much! I think everyone in life has experienced a mirror man or mirror girl. If you haven't you will at some point."

Missed Song Chart

This was the ballad that made Ella a breakout sensation on The X Factor. She sang it at her first audition, wowing the public and her performance subsequently received more than eight million hits on YouTube.

The song was inspired by Ella's late grandad, Bill, who died in the middle of the night from lung cancer when she was nine years old. She never went to visit him in hospital or attended his funeral, which the singer now regrets. "One day I was on the piano and was feeling very angry and emotional, I was having a down day," Ella told The Daily Record. "I started trying to write down lyrics and I got a melody in my head. Then I realised I was using this raw emotion from when I didn't get to say goodbye to my grandad."

Ella Henderson explained to Artist Direct how her grandfather influenced this tune. "Lyrically, the song is about hope, regret, and redemption," she said. "My grandfather is a massive influence on me in terms of music. He taught me so much. I respected so much."

"When I was talking about him because I sang that song, and it was so emotional, they were drawn together," Henderson continued." It became the song I write about my granddad. I did think about it deeply. It can relate in one way because I did have a lot of resentment for never attending his funeral. It's about holding something and not letting go. I love him so much though it wasn't about that."

Henderson co-wrote this song with fellow singer-songwriter Josh Record, who hails from Stroud, Gloucestershire in South England. His single "The War" was chosen by BBC Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe as his "Hottest Record of 2013."

The song soundtracked an emotional scene on the UK soap Hollyoaks, when the popular character Carmel McQueen tragically died following a train crash. Gemma Flaherty, from the Hollyoaks music department, commented: "The episode was the biggest of the year and because I knew that the executive producer Bryan Kirkwood wanted an Ella track to be used, I went straight for 'Yours'."

"Ella's voice is so soft and the piano and instrumentation fitted with the tone of the scene," she added. "It's ethereal and that works with the character of Carmel."

The track was a late addition to Chapter One. "I had started adding it to my acoustic sets," Henderson told Digital Spy . "It wasn't even on the album at the time. When Simon [Cowell] was hearing it in the acoustic sets, he would often sit down afterwards and be like, 'This song should go on the album - it's amazing.'"
