Old Boots, New Dirt Lyrics

A cup of coffee from a waitress I ain't ever met
She asked, "Are you just passing through?"
I smiled and said, "I don't know yet"
I walked around the town square
Down the street to where
I met the preacher and the old courthouse band
Yeah, nothing helps you start again like

Old Boots, New Dirt, no reminders
I've got a feeling this town will get me over her
You've been through what I've been through man
Nothing feels better than old boots, new dirt

There's a thousand faces, I ain't seen before
The only history that I can see is from a civil war
It's good for me to look around
And go down roads she ain't been down
No memories of our used to be's, set me free

Old boots, new dirt, no reminders
I've got a feeling this town will get me over her
You've been through what I've been through man
Nothing feels better than old boots, new dirt

Old boots, new dirt, one step closer
Yeah, I think I'm gonna like it here, yeah

You've been through what I've been through man
Nothing feels better than
Nothing else is gonna feel like old boots, new dirt
Old boots and new dirt
Ooh, old boots and new dirt

Old Boots, New Dirt Song Chart
  • This Neil Thrasher, Lee Thomas Miller and Tom Shapiro penned song is the title track of Jason Aldean's sixth album. "That title and that song, 'Old Boots, New Dirt,' is about starting with a clean slate," Aldean explained. "I'm the same dude, but we're gonna start over and hit some uncharted territory here."
  • Jason Aldean expanded on the track's meaning to Entertainment.ie : "The song talks about coming out the other side of a break-up and trying to get as far away from that as you can," he said. "You don't really know where you are headed, but you're going to figure it out as you go. A lot of times, that's what songwriting is about; it's about finding a new and inventive ways to say the same thing sometimes. I think this was a way to say that in a way that hasn't been said before."
