This was written for the UK motion picture Mrs Brown's Boys: D'Movie. The comedy's creator, Brendan O'Carroll, is a good friend of The Script drummer Glen Power and the Irish actor called vocalist Danny O'Donoghue and guitarist Mark Sheehan in for a meeting. "He told us about the premise of the movie, about a florist in Moore Street. Mark's mum and granny were street traders, so straight away he had Mark reeled in," O'Donoghue recalled to The Daily Star.

"We ended up thinking, 'What is it about Ireland?' That gave us the idea of 'Hail, Rain And Sunshine' – that's their motto."

The song's Irish instrumentation influenced The Script's No Sound Without Silence album. "It was the first time we embraced the Irish sound," O'Donoghue said. "We went full-frontal fiddles and uilleanns in it. That started to bleed into our other music – there's so much Irish influence in the melodies."
