Superheroes

The lead single from The Script's No Sound Without Silence album, this was one of the the first songs the band penned for the LP. The song was premiered on BBC Radio 1 on July 23, 2014.

The song has a self-empowerment theme and was inspired by the elation that The Script felt after playing a sold-out stadium show in America. "I'd come off stage and be shouting some Muhammad Ali s--t," laughed frontman Danny O'Donoghue. "Just messing around. So we wanted to try and bottle that and get it down. The Rolling Stones did that – get some of what Jagger called the sexual energy in there."

Shot in Johannesburg, South Africa, by frequent Robbie Williams collaborator Vaughan Arnell, the music video celebrates the everyday heroes of the city, in particular, a father on his workday. The location was inspired by the song itself, with Danny O'Donoghue stating to Capital FM that, "We went to Johannesburg to shoot the video, there were about 200,000 people in the township and it's a pretty poor area. We went down and we set up a stage and basically this carnival atmosphere ensued."

"We had an amazing, amazing time," he added. "We spent a few days there and spent a lot of time with the people in the township, because they are our superheroes, people who are going through the hardest of times but can keep their head held high. That's basically what the song is about."

The song talks of the people in this world who've been fighting all their life and working day and night to make things work. O'Donoghue told The Sun: "We are good at sitting around and talking about issues late at night. That song came from that."

"There's people being bullied and sold to the sex slave trade, yet they remain optimistic and positive," he added. "They're unsung heroes."

This was written for the UK motion picture Mrs Brown's Boys: D'Movie. The comedy's creator, Brendan O'Carroll, is a good friend of The Script drummer Glen Power and the Irish actor called vocalist Danny O'Donoghue and guitarist Mark Sheehan in for a meeting. "He told us about the premise of the movie, about a florist in Moore Street. Mark's mum and granny were street traders, so straight away he had Mark reeled in," O'Donoghue recalled to The Daily Star.

"We ended up thinking, 'What is it about Ireland?' That gave us the idea of 'Hail, Rain And Sunshine' – that's their motto."

The song's Irish instrumentation influenced The Script's No Sound Without Silence album. "It was the first time we embraced the Irish sound," O'Donoghue said. "We went full-frontal fiddles and uilleanns in it. That started to bleed into our other music – there's so much Irish influence in the melodies."

The Energy Never Dies Song Chart

This song finds Danny O'Donoghue singing about the time when you know your days are numbered and you're looking in your loved one's eyes telling them it's not the end, as the energy never dies. He explained it's, "about the moment you realize you may not have long left on this Earth."

"It's saying to the one you love," O'Donoghue added, "we will meet again in the afterlife."

O'Donoghue described this to The Sun as a song about hope. He explained: "There are a lot of worries on people's minds at the moment. Terrorism and the threat that carries – like someone might go to work one day and not return. So with that song we wanted to give a sense of hope."

Paint the Town Green Song Chart

This energetic track is hymn to the spirit of The Script's Irish homeland. "We're not crying on the page," said guitarist Mark Sheehan with a grin, "and it's not super-emotional as a song. It's just about missing home and talking about what every emigrant around the world feels."

The song title is a play on words regarding the phrase "paint the town red," meaning to party or celebrate in a rowdy, wild manner. (Green is Ireland's national color).

The incident that sparked it off the phrase was when Henry Beresford, 3rd Marquess of Waterford and his fox-hunting friends went on a drunken spree with pots of red paint In the early hours of April 6, 1837. The location of the event has been located in both the Irish town of Waterford and the English town of Melton Mowbray.
