I Hope It Rains Lyrics

I heard you got yourself a date already
Funny, thought you needed your space just five nights ago
I bet you'll take her to our favorite spot,
Blanket down, on the ground, and chicken from momma's stove,
And when you pull her in close

I Hope It Rains on you,
Maybe a little bit of lightning too
And I hope it comes a flood, lots of mud,
Messin' up your whole day
Hey hey, and I hope it rains

Don't get me wrong, I hope she's really the one
And if it's love you know I wish you the best
You'll probably have yourself an outside wedding,
With violins, all our friends, and her in her pretty white dress
And right before that first kiss

I hope it rains on you,
Maybe a little bit of lightning too
And I hope it comes a flood, lots of mud,
Messin' up your whole day
Hey hey, and I hope it rains,
And I hope it rains

I hope it rains,
Hope it pours,
I hope she's in heels, and some little white shorts
You can't find the keys to unlock the doors

And I hope it rains on you,
Maybe a little bit of lightning too
And I hope it comes a flood, lots of mud,
Messin' up your whole day
Hey hey, and I hope it rains,
And I hope it rains
And I hope it rains

I Hope It Rains
  • Kramer told Radio.com that rather than take every song pitched to her, she has to relate to it firsthand. Case in point: this Jerry Flowers, Kelley Lovelace and Rachel Proctor penned tune, which she thought was perfect the moment she first heard it. "I never want to be too mean with my songs, but with 'I Hope It Rains,' it was definitely somewhere in the middle with being sassy and then also a little class in there as well," she said. "It was a good blend for me and who I want to be perceived as an artist. With that song, it says everything I want. The guy knows that I want his days to be ruined, but in a nicer way."

    Stockholm Syndrome Lyrics

I won't stand in your way
    Let your hatred grow
    And she'll scream
    And she'll shout
    And she'll pray
    And she had a name
    Yeah she had a name

And I won't hold you back
    Let your anger rise
    And we'll fly
    And we'll fall
    And we'll burn
    No one will recall
    No one will recall

This is the last time I'll abandon you
And this is the last time I'll forget you
    I wish I could

    Look to the stars
Let hope burn in your eyes
    And we'll love
    And we'll hope
    And we'll die
    All to no avail
    All to no avail

This is the last time I'll abandon you
And this is the last time I'll forget you
    I wish I could

This is the last time I'll abandon you

    Stockholm Syndrome
  • This is about a relationship that you feel trapped in (The term "Stockholm Syndrome" was coined by a Swedish doctor after hostages in a Stockholm bank robbery started to identify and even become attracted to their captors - the term is used to describe an instance of loving someone who holds you captive) but is going nowhere (references to flying, falling and burning; loving hoping and dying to no avail). The chorus is like an apology for abandoning and forgetting the other person, but secretly wishing that it was over: "The last time I'll forget you - I wish I could."
  • The solo and outro are played the exact same way as the intro, just in a different speed and key.
  • This began life as a filler riff during live shows until the band decided to expand it into a full song.
  • This was the first released on Absolution (Muse's third studio album) and was available as a download-only single. In summer 2005 it was released for the first time in the US.
  • The video was shot with thermal imaging, and cuts between a hostage situation (where the original term Stockholm Syndrome originated), and the band. The word "Prisoner" is written on skin several times, and the word "Captor" is scrawled on a wall at the start.

    Last night
    (Our lovers quarrel)
    I was thinking about you
    (More than I can say)
And it was kind of dirty
    (All night)
And the way that you looked at me
    (Help me here)
    It was kind of nasty
    (Help me here)
    It was kind of trashy
'Cause I can't help my mind from going there

Heard your boyfriend was away this weekend
    Wanna meet at my place
Heard that we both got nothing to do
When I lay in bed I touch myself and think of you

    Last night
Damn you were in my sex dreams (you were in my)
Doing really nasty things (you were in my dreams)
Damn you were in my sex dreams (you were in my)
Making love in my sex dreams

We could be caught (I just want this to be perfect)
We're both convicted criminals of thought ('cause I'm broken)
Let's white (by the one before) glove the bed
(He was kinda nasty) Help me here
    'Cause I feel so trashy
'Cause we can't hide the evidence in our head

Heard your boyfriend was away this weekend
    Wanna meet at my place
Heard that we both got nothing to do
And I lay in bed I touch myself and I think of you

    Last night
Damn you were in my sex dreams (you were in my)
Doing really nasty things (you were in my dreams)
Damn you were in my sex dreams (you were in my)
Making love in my sex dreams
Making love in my sex dreams
Making love in my sex dreams
Making love in my sex dreams

    You could turn a stone
Or the color of a man petrified by a woman
In love as I am when I lay with you
I think of him, I think of him

I can't believe I'm telling you this but
I've had a couple of drinks and oh my god

    Last night
Damn you were in my sex dreams (you were in my)
Doing really nasty things (you were in my dreams)
Damn you were in my sex dreams (you were in my)
    Last night
Damn you were in my sex dreams

    Sexxx Dreams
  • This throbbing Pop anthem contains raunchy lyrics in which Gaga attempts to seduce someone by describing an explicit dream. By the end of the tune the singer acknowledges how ridiculous she is being, blaming it on having had a couple drinks.
  • The song is titled "X Dreams" on the edited version of ARTPOP.
  • Gaga debuted the song during her headline performance at the iTunes Festival on September 1, 2013.

If We Never Go Inside Lyrics

a train appeared in town one night.
for some of us it changed our lives
a few of us never saw it coming,
then like the fire it disappeared.
it happens at a wonderful age,
with the traffic lights your mind can change
we made up rules to follow for good,
no wonder we're fucked up, some of us did

tonight never ends If We Never Go Inside.
    the moon is always full
your calendar is always pinned on summertime

were you planning on staying forever?
you don't fit in this hole
or don't you remember....hold your breath
walk don't run through the graveyard

a train appeared in town one night.
for some of us it saved our lives
a few of us never saw it coming,
then like the fire we disappear
it happens at a wonderful age,
with the traffic lights your mind can change
we made up rules to follow for good,
no wonder we're fucked up, some of us did

i'm just scared i might never say goodbye...
i won't be around to hold you down,
pry open your ears and ask you why

were you planning on staying forever?
you don't fit in this hole
or don't you remember....hold your breath
walk don't run through the graveyard

is this why you've worked so hard?
is this why you've run so far?
same place, same hello, same goodbye...
helps you pick through beat up insides

    If We Never Go Inside
  • This song is about living for the moment and just doing what you want to do without having second thoughts about it: "The night never ends if we never go inside." This suggests that if we have an opportunity, we should take it and not let it pass like most people do.

Come to me, in all your glamour and cruelty
Just do that thing that you do
    And I'll undress you
Give it time, sometimes the simplest move is right
The melody that you choose, can rescue you

A hybrid can withstand these things
My heart can beat with bricks and strings
    My Artpop could mean anything

We could, we could belong together (ARTPOP)
We could, we could belong together (ARTPOP)
We could, we could belong together (ARTPOP)
    ARTPOP, ARTPOP, ARTPOP

Come to me, with all your subtext and fantasy
Just do that thing that you do
    In a perverse hue
Lover's kites, are flown on beaches for public sight
The color palette you choose, can profit you

A hybrid can withstand these things
My heart can beat with bricks and strings
    My ARTPOP could mean anything

Could try to sell you out or I
Could show you all the reasons why
    My ARTPOP could mean anything

We could, we could belong together (ARTPOP)
We could, we could belong together (ARTPOP)
We could, we could belong together (ARTPOP)
    ARTPOP, ARTPOP, ARTPOP

Brushes with darknes won't help you create
Your destiny of self but ARTPOP could mean anything, anything
I try to sell myself but I am really laughing
Because I just want the music, not the bling
    Music, not the bling

    Artpop
  • The lyrics for the bleepy, Trip-Hoppy title track of Lady Gaga's third album are a contemplation on the crossing of art and pop culture. They find the New York songstress comparing a potential relationship between two people to the kinship between "art" and "pop." She croons:

    "Come to me
In all your glamour and cruelty
Just do that thing that you do
    And I'll undress you
    Give it time
Sometimes the simplest move is right
    The melody that you choose
    Can rescue you."

Producer White Shadow told MTV News the song was a defining moment during the making of ARTPOP: "I think 'Artpop' is definitive just because it is the title track," he said. "It's, like, one of the first ones she wrote. It's like the backbone of the record, right? It's what the record is about and, again, it kind of set up the stage to do different stuff."
  • Gaga explained the concept of the album during a Sirius XM special: "Every track on ARTPOP represents one adrenaline rush," she said. "Adrenaline of sex, adrenaline of art, adrenaline of fashion, adrenaline of drugs, etc."

    One More Sleep Lyrics

Snow is falling all around us
My baby's coming home for Christmas
I've been up all night inside my bedroom
He said he'll be with me real soon

    So I wait
    And I wait
But I've had as much as I can take

'Cause I've got 5 more nights of sleeping on my own
4 more days until you're coming home
3 more dreams of you and mistletoe
2 more reasons why I love you so
I've got 5 more nights until you're next to me
4 more days of being lonely
3 more wishes I can barely breathe
If I can make it to Christmas Eve then it's

    One More Sleep
(one more sleep until it's Christmas)
    One more sleep
(Can't believe how much I missed us)
    One more sleep
(One more sleep until it's Christmas)
    One more sleep

    Now I don't think I can remember
    A cold and lonelier December
And I find myself singing at the window
Wondering when you're gonna get back home

    So I try
    And I try
But there is nothing I can do to pass this time

I've got 5 more nights of sleeping on my own
4 more days until you're coming home
3 more dreams of you and mistletoe
2 more reasons why I love you so
I've got 5 more nights until you're next to me
4 more days of being lonely
3 more wishes I can barely breathe
If I can make it to Christmas Eve then it's

    One more sleep
(one more sleep until it's Christmas)
    One more sleep
(Can't believe how much I missed us)
    One more sleep
(One more sleep until it's Christmas)
    One more sleep

Until we're rocking around the Christmas tree
Until I got you sitting next to me
We got a lot of catching up to do
I just can't take this missing you

5 more nights on my own
    4 more days
    3 more dreams
    Mistletoe
I can't believe I ever let you go

5 more nights of sleeping on my own
4 more days until you're coming home
3 more wishes I can barely breathe
If I can make it to Christmas Eve then it's one more sleep

    One More Sleep
  • This is the lead single from Leona Lewis' Christmas collection album Christmas, With Love. The song is about special occasions from a child's point of view. The singer told Perez Hilton that she wanted to express the happiness that comes from anticipation of a big event. "'One More Sleep is basically, it's a thing that a lot of kids say like, there's three days left until we're doing something fun," Lewis explained. "Like it's your birthday or Christmas, you'll be like "oh its three more sleeps left, count down to one more sleep left!" And 'One More Sleep' is really about that feeling."

"For me I'm on promo and touring and I'm away for so much of the year, but Christmas day is the one day I look forward to the most because I know I'm getting a day off," Lewis continued. "I know I'm going to see my friends and my family. I know I'm going to see my boy, like it's so exciting for me. So literally that song is that feeling, it encompasses that whole song. It's just the excitement, almost a childlike excitement that you have the night before Christmas. It's really very close to my heart, so it was really fun."
  • When the song climbed to #3 in its second week on the UK singles chart, Lewis became the first British female solo artist to achieve eight UK Top Five hits. She previously was tied on seven with Olivia Newton-John.
  • Christmas, With Love represents Lewis' first foray into Motown music. She told Billboard magazine: "With Motown, it's been so present in my upbringing and my musical background, but I had never done a studio recording of it. I think that we got that across in the recordings, with all the live sounds, the brass section and the hugeness of it. And it came together really quickly - we got in the studio in the summer and just had an amazing time recording."
  • Lewis recorded her Christmas, With Love album in the height of summer. "I thought, 'Oh, this is going to be so weird. How am I going to feel Christmas-y?,'" she told Elle magazine. "First off, I recorded it in the UK, which is not the sunniest [place]. Of course this summer was literally like the sunniest on record."

"It ended up being a blessing in disguise because I started playing loads of Christmas songs and really kind of delving into all of these kind of classics," Lewis continued. "And I discovered some really amazing recordings that I probably never would have had I not had to really get into that kind of Christmas vibe."

She lives in the shadow of a lonely girl
Voice so quiet you don't hear a word,
Always talking but she can't be heard,

You can see it there if you catch her eye,
I know she's brave but it's trapped inside,
Scared to talk but she don't know why,

    Wish I knew back then,
    What I know now,
    Wish I could somehow,
Go back in time and maybe listen to my own advice,

I'd tell her to speak up, tell her to shout out,
Talk a bit louder, be a bit prouder,
    Tell her she's beautiful, wonderful,
    Everything she doesn't see,

You gotta speak up, you gotta shout out,
And know that right here, right now,
    You can be beautiful, wonderful,
    Anything you wanna be,

    Little Me

Yeah you got a lot of time to act your age,
You cannot write a book from a single page,
Hands on the clock only turn one way,

    (Yeah)

Run too fast and risk it all,
Can't be afraid to take a fall,
Felt so big but you looked so small,

    Wish I knew back then,
    What I know now,
    Wish I could somehow,
Go back in time and maybe listen to my own advice,

I'd tell her to speak up, tell her to shout out,
Talk a bit louder, be a bit prouder,
    Tell her she's beautiful, wonderful,
    Everything she doesn't see.

You gotta speak up, you gotta shout out,
And know that right here, right now,
    You can be beautiful, wonderful,
    Anything you wanna be, oh,
    Little me

    Little me

Tell you one thing I would say to her

I'd tell her to speak up, tell her to shout out,
Talk a bit louder, be a bit prouder,
    Tell her she's beautiful, wonderful,

You gotta speak up, you gotta shout out,

    Little Me
  • This stripped-back ballad finds Little Mix singing about what they'd say to their younger selves, given the chance. They would encourage their 'little mes' to speak up for themselves and stand tall.
  • This samples at the start and end of the song the melody from French composer Faure's "Pavane." The Wimbledon Choral Society's recording of the 1887 classical work reached #20 in the UK Singles Chart after being used by the BBC as the theme for their coverage of the 1998 World Cup.
  • Little Mix's Jesy explained to The Metro that the girls wrote the track as advice for their young fans: "Little Me is about how there are so many things you used to worry about when you were little," she said. "Just the stupidest little things, and then as you get older you just think back and go 'I wish I'd have done this or I wish I'd done that.'"

  • Noel Gallagher (from Q magazine, May 2005): "Our poppiest thing since Roll With It. Annoyingly catchy and sounds a bit like The Who."
  • This was the 7th UK #1 hit for Oasis.
  • Sony's insistence that this should be released as the first single from the album helped to fuel the tension between the band and their record label, which led to Oasis not renewing their contract with Sony following the release of Don't Believe the Truth.
  • When Noel Gallagher was asked who Lyla was, he answered "Sally's Sister," referring to "Sally" who is mentioned in the song "Don't Look Back In Anger." Sally is a name he made up for that song, so he's implying that he did the same with Lyla.
  • Liam was not impressed with the song's music video. He recalled to Spin magazine in a 2011 interview, "Some of the videos we did were f---ing shocking. 'Lyla,' for example - we look like f---ing Culture Club on s--t acid."

Liam Gallagher added to NME regarding the clip in a 2013 interview; "It was meant to be a rock 'n' roll circus thing, like the Stones, but it turned into some Culture Club sh--e."

It's not a lot it's just enough to matter
Anyway you want the truth is
I will marry you on Tuesday

I don't always tell the truth
If you want it you could lose, don't bother
I don't like it if you miss me
Why would I long for you?

My love, my love, my love, my love is,
My love, my love, my love is,
My love, my love, my love, my love is,
    Cruel

My love, my love, my love, my love is,
My love, my love, my love is,
My love, my love, my love, my love is,
    Cruel

    Would I long for you?
    Is it up to you?
    Is it up to you?
    Ah ah ah ah

    Chloroform
  • Chloroform is a slightly hazardous organic compound with an acrid, sickly sweet smell and taste, which sends people off to sleep. The Scottish obstetrician, Dr. James Simpson, discovered its anesthetic properties in 1847 during an experiment with friends. The first baby to be delivered by chloroform was one Wilhelmina Carstairs, however it was only when Queen Victoria allowed herself to be chloroformed by Dr. John Snow to diminish the pains of childbirth when giving birth to her seventh child, Prince Leopold, that it became an established anesthetic.

We recommend that you don't use chloroform at home as it does does cause some unwanted side effects. After waking, chloroformed patients often suffer from dizziness, brutal headaches, and bouts of vomiting.

Phoenix vocalist Thomas Mars is singing on this slinky ballad of a cruel, toxic love with the numbing properties of chloroform.
  • The pastoral, dreamlike performance video was directed by Mars' film-maker wife, Sophia Coppola (Lost In Translation, The Virgin Suicides). Speaking about the clip, Coppola explained: "I wanted it to be a fantasy of young girls fixated on a band they love and try to capture that feeling I remember of seeing bands when I was a kid, when you could totally lose it… and to play up the band as close but out of reach. It's a fantasy audience, all young, pretty girls."

He Thinks He'll Keep Her Lyrics

She makes his coffee, she makes his bed
She does the laundry, she keeps him fed
When she was twenty one she wore her mother's lace
She said, "Forever," with a smile upon her face

She does the carpool, she P.T.A.'s
Doctors and dentists, she drives all day
When she was twenty nine she delivered number three
And ev'ry Christmas card showed a perfect family

    Ev'rything runs right on time
    Years of practice and design
Spit and polish till it shines
    He Thinks He'll Keep Her
    Ev'rything is so benign
The safest place you'll ever find
God forbid you change your mind
    He thinks he'll keep her

She packs his suitcase, she sits and waits
With no expression upon her face
When she was thirty-six she met him at the door
She said, "I'm sorry, I don't love you any more"

    Ev'rything runs right on time
    Years of practice and design
Spit and polish till it shines
    He thinks he'll keep her
    Ev'rything is so benign
The safest place you'll ever find
God for bid you change your mind
    He thinks he'll keep her

For fifteen years she had a job and not one raise in pay
Now she's in the typing pool at minimum wage

    Ev'rything runs right on time
    Years of practice and design
Spit and polish till it shines
    He thinks he'll keep her
    Ev'rything is so benign
The safest place you'll ever find
At least until you change your mind
    (He thinks he'll keep her)

    He Thinks He'll Keep Her
  • This song was inspired by a 1970s Geritol TV commercial (which would now be regarded as extremely sexist and patronizing), in which a husband cites his wife's many attributes, summarizing with, "I think I'll keep her."
  • This song is about a woman who lives a typical, anodyne life devoted to her husband and family, but then after 15 years becomes fed up with the monotony and leaves him. Carpenter wrote the song with Don Schlitz, a Country music songwriting stalwart who wrote the Kenny Rogers hit "The Gambler."
  • With a more pop-oriented sound and an influx of female stars, country music went mainstream in the early '90s, leading to a 2-hour CBS special in 1993 called The Women of Country. This song, with its message of female empowerment, was a showcase song, with Carpenter performing it with Emmylou Harris, Trisha Yearwood, Suzy Bogguss, Pam Tillis , Patty Loveless, and Kathy Mattea.

Carpenter, who was raised in the Northeast and graduated from Brown University, was hailed as a new kind of Country singer - one that could appeal to an audience far outside the typical fan base of the genre.
