Police On My Back Lyrics

Well I'm running Police On My Back
I've been hiding police on my back
There was a shooting police on my back
And the victim well he wont come back

I been running monday tuesday wednesday
Thursday friday saturday sunday runnin
Monday tuesday wednesday thursday friday
Saturday sunday

Running down the railway track
Could you help me' police on my back
They will catch me if I dare drop back
Wont you give me all the speed I lack

I been running monday tuesday wednesday
Thursday friday saturday sunday runnin
Monday tuesday wednesday thursday friday
Saturday sunday

I'm still running down the railway track
Could you help me' police on my back
They will catch me if I dare drop back
Wont you give me all the speed I lack

Police On My Back
  • Originally released on the Baby, Come Back album in 1968, the song enjoyed a revival in the manner of Junior Murvin's "Police And Thieves" when UK punk band The Clash recorded a cover of the song in 1980 for their Sandinista! album. "We used to play the Equals' version on the tour bus, Mick was the first one to play it to me" said bassist Paul Simonon. "We recorded it at the Power Station, just the three of us, me, Mick (Jones, guitarist) and Topper (Headon, drummer). Paul put his bit on later in Wessex," noted singer Joe Strummer.

There was a slight problem with recording in New York as no record store in NYC had a copy of the album, so Clash aide Kosmo Vinyl had to bring a copy of the LP over from London to help the band remember the lyrics.
  • This song was cited by some critics in reviews of the Sandinista! album as the most Clash-sounding song on the album - with the irony being that it's a cover! The song was a live standard for the band from 1981 until their breakup.

Baby, I Can't Please You Lyrics

    Baby I can't please you I can't please you

Every time you start to criticize
I can see the misery in your eyes
You say I make your pain
You're trying to turn the blame all around you

You take the words I say and make them mean
Everything they don't baby you're obscene
You don't listen you don't hear
You're blinded by the fear that surrounds you

I know you say love when you mean control
You buy the truth and your heart is cold
    So you live in shadows

You try to tell the world how it should spin
But you live in terror with the hollow men
Who stun you with their lies
With fever in their eyes as they drown you

    Baby, I Can't Please You
  • The meaning behind this song has caused a bit of confusion over the years. With its politically charged video that alternates the breakdown of a right wing spy with flashes of Rush Limbaugh's face on a TV screen, most fans assume the song was aimed at the conservative radio host. The lyrics even seem to accuse Limbaugh and his contemporaries of a fear-mongering agenda: "You try to tell the world how it should spin, But you live in terror with the hollow men, Who stun you with their lies, With fever in their eyes as they drown you."

But, according to Phillips, the possibility of a political interpretation is just that - a possibility. She said in our interview: "It's not specifically about Rush Limbaugh, but it might be about what's wrong with Rush Limbaugh. But that might also be what's wrong with somebody else who's liberal. I try to make them a little bit more human than specific in that sense, so that 'Baby I Can't Please You' is a broader concept. It could be in a love relationship. It could be in a political relationship. Hopefully there are many levels you can take any of my songs on. That is always my aim."
  • The music video for this song ends with a quote by Christian author C.S. Lewis: "People in fear are always attempting to gain power... People in love are always willing to give up power."
  • This song was used in the 1999 TV movie It Came From the Sky (starring Christopher Lloyd, John Ritter and Jo Beth Williams) and also appeared on the Melrose Place: The Music soundtrack in 1994.

  • This is one of three tracks on Brothers of the Southland to feature the late Van Stephenson, who lost a battle with cancer in 2001. Originally an early BlackHawk demo, it was one of the first songs founder members Henry Paul , Van Stephenson and Dave Robbins wrote together."

Robbins told Taste of Country : "The song marks the start of Blackhawk — we wrote it before the band had even formed. The song was beginning to shape the sound that Blackhawk would become, and it always takes me back to the three of us together in the beginning."

    Baby, Come To Me
  • This was initially released in 1981 on Patti Austin's album Every Home Should Have One. In May of 1982, it peaked at #73 on the US charts. Months later, the song found new life when it was used in the ABC soap opera General Hospital for romantic scenes involving Luke Spencer (played by Anthony Geary) after his wife Laura temporarily left the show. ABC got lots of calls and letters about the song, and Warner Brothers Records decided to re-release the song as a single due to popular demand. It hit #1 in the US in February 1983.

Later that year, "Think Of Laura" by Christopher Cross was used in scenes where Luke was missing Laura. Thanks to its use on the show, the song went to #9 US in 1984.
  • Quincy Jones produced this. Both Austin and Ingram had worked with Jones in the past and signed to his record label, Quest.
  • Rod Temperton wrote this. This is one of many songs he wrote that Quincy Jones produced. Others include Michael Jackson's "Rock With You," "Off The Wall" and "Thriller," as well as songs by The Brothers Johnson and Rufus with Chaka Khan.
  • Ingram has done a lot of duets, including "Just Once" with Quincy Jones, "Yah Mo B There" with Michael McDonald, and "Somewhere Out There" with Linda Ronstadt.
  • After 2 weeks at #1 in the US, this was replaced by Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean." That song was also produced by Jones.
  • Patti Austin is the goddaughter of Quincy Jones. (thanks, Edward Pearce - Ashford, Kent, England, for above 5)

Baby, I Love Your Way Lyrics

Shadows grow so long before my eyes
And they're moving across the page
Suddenly the day turns into night
Far away from the city but don't hesitate
'Cause your love won't wait hey
Ooh baby I love your way every day
want to tell you I love your way every day
want to be with you night and day

Moon appears to shine and light the sky
With the help of some fireflies
I wonder how they have the power shine shine shine
I can see them under the pines
But don't hesitate 'cause your love won't wait hey
Ooh baby I love your way every day
want to tell you I love your way every day
want to be with you night and day uh yeah

But don't hesitate 'cause your love won't wait
I can see the sunset in your eyes
Brown and grey and blue besides
Clouds are stalking islands in the sun
Wish I could dry one out of season
But don't hesitate 'cause your love won't wait hey
Ooh baby I love your way every day
want to tell you I love your way uuhh
want to be with you night and day
Ooh baby I love your way every day
want to tell you I love your way uuhh
want to be with you night and day

    Baby, I Love Your Way
  • This is a very romantic love ballad. Frampton is telling his girl that he loves everything about her and wants to be with her day and night. (thanks, Alec Thorp - Yorktown Heights, NY)
  • This went nowhere when Frampton first released it as a single in 1975. The next year, he included it on his live album, Frampton Comes Alive, and it helped the album become a huge hit. The live version was the second single released from the album, after "Show Me The Way" and before "Do You Feel Like We Do."
  • Lisa Bonet sings this in the 1999 movie Hi Fidelity. John Cusak's character hates the song until he hears her sing it.
  • In 1988, the group Will To Power had a US #1 hit with a medley of this and "Free Bird."
  • Big Mountain hit #6 in the US with this in 1994. Their version was on the soundtrack to Reality Bites.
