This is the title track to HIM's eighth studio album. In our interview with group's lead singer/songwriter Ville Valo , he explained: "It's my tribute to the music I grew up listening to. It mentions church bells tolling and thunder roaring, and that's a dedication to the first Black Sabbath album and so forth. There are two or three different stories going on at the same time. In one, it describes music verbally, and my favorite songs. And on another level it's a bit more of an emotional journey and relationship-related little ditty."

You might detect and '80s sound to this one, which can be attributed to Ville Valo's love of music from that decade - he cites Depeche Mode and Nick Cave as two of his favorites from the era.

Valo came up with the basic track for this song when he was working on some Electronic side projects that never came to fruition. When it came time to work on the Tears On Tape album, he brought out what he had of the song and gave it the HIM treatment. "I had that melody and I was playing around with that for about eight months," he told us. "Then since we started working on new stuff with HIM, I thought, 'Let's try it out. It's a bit different than the rest of the songs.'"

In our interview with HIM lead singer Ville Valo , he explained that this song took him 8 and a half years to complete. "I started working on that back in 2001 and recorded it in 2009," he said. "It's a simple song, but that's the problem with the simple songs. It might be that the infrastructure of the song sounds fine and it sounds beautiful and it will play on acoustic guitar, but then when you try to arrange it to be played by the whole band, then it loses something. It's especially true in our case, because we're balancing on the razor's edge between the more sentimental and melodic stuff versus the really hard hitting stuff, so we have to get that balance right."

A great example of HIM's Love Rock sound, this one is a heartbreaker, with Ville Valo singing about a woman who took him to heaven but then back down to hell. The lyrics, "turned three sevens into three sixes again" are a clever reference to this swingline, as the three sevens reference a winning pull on a slot machine, which the three sixes is the biblical Number of the Beast (666).

Sometimes listed under its initialism W.L.S.T.D., this song, like many in HIM's canon, explores the feeling of love, and what happens when it goes away.

Some HIM songs take literally years to compose, as they try different arrangements until it meets their standards. This one, however, came very quickly. In our interview with HIM lead singer Ville Valo , he explained: "I hummed the basic riff while on my way to the rehearsal place, so that took about one day to finish up the entire thing, more or less. And by a day I mean like five hours."

A track from the Finnish band HIM's second album, this one finds lead singer Ville Valo describing his affection for a girl who is filled with anguish. He sings about her looks, as well as the deep despair that engulfs her heart. He loves her as she is just like him - so lost in this world of pain, suffering and tormented. The title is a play on the classic novel, Gone With The Wind.

This is one of HIM's more popular songs, going to #1 in Finland. Ville Valo tells us that the song was composed once they had the album essentially completed, which is a fruitful time for the band since they suddenly find themselves more relaxed. "Once all that stuff is out of your system - meaning recorded and produced - then all of a sudden you feel a breath of fresh air, this sense of relief," he said. "These days when we're booking studio time, I like to leave an extra week at the very end in case we have some ridiculously good idea that we still want to try out."

This is about a vow that 2 people take when they fall in love and commit to each other. The song talks about a church, and how it is not made of flashy or glamorous objects, but of love: "Its commandments are of consolation and warmth." The chorus discusses how their sacrament will never fail; his sacrament is her. The Funeral Of Hearts

This song was the last song to be recorded for this album, and it was written on the spot in the studio, by Ville Valo, the singer in HIM. The band didn't intend for this song to be on the album, but as HIM's bass player Mikko Paananen said: "We gotta have this song on the album, or else we're f--ked." This song was also the first single from the Love Metal album, and the first video. The single reached #1 in their home country of Finland.

When we spoke with Ville Valo in 2013 , the HIM singer/songwriter explained: "That wasn't originally supposed to be included on Love Metal, the album. I had the main ideas for it, but we kind of ran out of time. We already had recorded the rest of the songs, but then I had this "eureka" moment and finished up the song really quickly right at the very last week of recording the album. Everybody liked it so much that we had to reserve some more time from the studio and really work on that song.

As a band, especially a rock band, when you think in terms of albums more than songs, you tend to put all your effort into the X amount of songs. Once all that stuff is out of your system - meaning recorded and produced - then all of a sudden you feel a breath of fresh air, this sense of relief. And that time is really, really good for getting new stuff done. We've had that in the past with a few songs. We have a song called 'Gone With the Sin' on Razorblade Romance that happened exactly the same way."
