This 1970s-inspired dance ballad is an uptempo track that features a verse by Atlanta rapper T.I. Hudson said to MTV News of the cut, "You listen to it and it'll make you happy!"

Pharrell Williams wrote and produced the song. "Working with a visionary like Pharrell was a really special experience for me," said Hudson, "He is one of the most talented musicians of our time, and I couldn't be more proud of what we did together. I'm so thrilled to be sharing this song with everyone. For me, it's all about making people feel good, and showing them who I am as an artist. I make music to feed the soul, and I think this song will do that for a lot of people."

The song was released as the first single from JHUD. The album title references Hudson's nickname, which people have been using for a while. The songstress told Billboard magazine she's liked her moniker from the beginning. "The first time I heard of it was when I was on American Idol, and apparently a radio DJ in Chicago gave me this nickname," Hudson said. "Ever since everybody's been calling me JHud. No one calls me Jennifer Hudson anymore. I grew up being called Jenny Kate, so this is like the world's version of Jenny Kate."

This sassy tune features a vocal contribution from Timbaland. Timbo also produced the track with his frequent collaborator J-Roc. "'Walk It Out' reflects the 'JHud' in me. Every bit of it is a reminder and a connection of where I come from," said Hudson. "Who better to help me reconnect to that than Timbaland and his team? We co-wrote the song together so I'm singing my words. It's my take; my perspective."

The song's music video was directed by Director X (Iggy Azalea's "Fancy," Ciara's "Body Party"). The clip features Hudson strolling the streets of her Chicago home city as she's hounded by a bunch of hunky men. "Everything about that song reminds me of growing up in the Englewood area, and the boys in the playground playing basketball, trying to flirt with the girl that's walking to the candy store," she told The Hollywood Reporter . "I wanted to revisit that, and it's part of my background."

There's a cameo from Hudson's professional wrestler fiancé David Otunga at the start of the visual, and Timbaland makes a few appearances as well.

This song was helmed at Jerry Wonda's studio by singer-songwriter and producer Kortney Pollard, who performs under the name of Mali Music. Pollard explained to The Boombox how he approached working with Hudson. "I wanted to approach it differently, I wanted to connect to her," he said. "I didn't want to be a person who [said], 'Hey this is a song that means a lot of me, but you can sing it!' I didn't want to come at it like that. I was explaining it to her, and she was just looking at me like, 'You are crazy!' I want you to talk to me, I want you to share your deepest ideas, just concepts you have for songs or something that you saw on TV that you thought was profound."

"I recorded a 20-minute audio clip on my phone of her just expressing herself, talking about it and I wrote all the songs from her thoughts and feelings," he continued. "I would structure it with music, use certain quotes that she would, she would put a twang on something, I'd put a twang on it in the song so when I re-presented it to her, they were her babies. None of them were foreign."

"I guess I'm the type of writer and producer that wants to bring back the true connection of what they want to say," Pollard concluded. "It's cool that you can tell an artist, 'Hey, I'm a robot I gotta sing this song, it's not really what I agree with.' It was really cool on songs like 'Bring Back the Music' and another one called 'Moan' that she wrote in tribute of her mother with all the crazy things that happened to her family, all the tragedy and loss she experienced."
