  • This is the title track of Joe Nichols' eighth album, Crickets. Nichols explained to Radio.com that the record's name came about organically. "We had several [songs] that made reference to crickets somewhere in the song," he said. "But we felt this tone of being out in the country, in a hayfield, or by a creekside. The setting is in the countryside. So the tone of the record, being happy [and] positive, we wanted that to represent the record."

    "To me it feels country," he added. "I fish with crickets all the time, and that's what I hear at nighttime when I step out on the porch. So to me it's bigger than an album title, it's the mood of the record."

  • Nichols admitted to Billboard magazine that he knows this innuendo-filled track is unlikely to win any songwriting awards. "It's corny and goofy. If I had to describe it in one word, I would say ridiculous," he said. "I like songs like this because it is silly, but at the same time it feels good. It feels fun. Music is supposed to be a little lighter sometimes. 'Hee Haw' isn't going to win any Grammys for lyrical genius, but it will put you in a good mood and make you smile."
