N.I.B. Lyrics

Oh yeah!

Some people say my love cannot be true
Please believe me, my love, and I'll show you
I will give you those things you thought unreal
The sun, the moon, the stars all bear my seal

Oh yeah!

Follow me now and you will not regret
Leaving the life you led before we met
You are the first to have this love of mine
Forever with me 'till the end of time

Your love for me has just got to be real
Before you know the way I'm going to feel
I'm going to feel
I'm going to feel

Oh yeah!

Now I have you with me, under my power
Our love grows stronger now with every hour
Look into my eyes, you'll see who I am
My name is Lucifer, please take my hand

  • In this song, Satan falls in love with a human woman and tries to seduce her. He turns out to be very charming and the early lyrics are quite poetic. (thanks, Brett - Edmonton, Canada)
  • The title refers to drummer Bill Ward's beard. The band called him "Nibby" because they thought it looked like the nib on the end of a pen (Ozzy came up with the nickname when he on acid and thought Geezer Butler was turning into a fountain pen). Says Butler: Originally it was Nib, which was Bill's beard. When I wrote N.I.B., I couldn't think of a title for the song, so I just called it Nib, after Bill's beard. To make it more intriguing I put punctuation marks in there to make it N.I.B. By the time it got to America, they translated it to Nativity In Black. (thanks, Greg - Triad, NC)
  • Many fans thought the title stood for "Nativity In Black" or "Name In Blood."
  • The bass intro is called "Bassically." It is listed as a separate song on US versions of the album.
  • "Nativity In Black" is the name of two Black Sabbath tribute albums released in 1994 and 2000. Groups contributing to the albums include Megadeth, Godsmack, Biohazzard, and Faith No More.
  • The first Nativity In Black album, released in 1994, contains a cover of this by Ugly Kid Joe. The second, from 2000, contains a version from Primus with Ozzy Osbourne.
  • In November of 1969, Black Sabbath appeared on John Peel's Top Gear radio show, where they played this song along with "Black Sabbath," "Behind the Wall of Sleep," and "Sleeping Village." It was some great early exposure for the band.

A Little Bit of Me Lyrics

If you believed, if you tried
It could be enough to know you were alive
If you knew the truth it couldn’t be denied
It would change the world enough that you might find

That the world goes round and around and around
And everybody walks on common ground
We gotta pull together if we’re gonna pull through
There’s A Little Bit of Me in a little bit of you
The world goes round and around and round
Everybody feels a little upside down
No need to be afraid of anybody you see
There’s a little bit of you in a little bit of me
Nah nah nah nah nah nah nah in a little bit of me
Nah nah nah nah nah nah nah..... Nah nah

Is it on the skin is it in the love
The things about each other that we’re so scared of
You can shake your head you can change your mind
Either way you wake up inside yourself to find

That the world goes round and around and around
And everybody walks on common ground
We gotta pull together if we’re gonna pull through
There’s a little bit of me in a little bit of you
The world goes round and around and round
Everybody feels a little upside down
No need to be afraid of anybody you see
There’s a little bit of you in a little bit of me
Nah nah nah nah nah nah nah in a little bit of me
Nah nah nah nah nah nah nah..... Nah nah

Oh.... lean to your left or lean to your right
The corner of the room and every soul here tonight
Have a little bit of faith everyone will see
That all the good books in the world agree
There’s a little bit of you in a little bit of me

And the world goes round and around and around
And everybody walks on common ground
No need to be afraid of anybody you see
There’s a little bit of you oh in a little bit of me
Nah nah nah nah nah nah nah
In a little bit of me
Nah nah nah nah nah nah nah
In just a little bit of me
Nah nah nah nah nah nah nah
Oh there’s a little bit of you in a little bit of me, in a little bit of me
Come on we’re gonna walk on common ground
Just a little bit of me

Drops Of Jupiter (Tell Me) Lyrics

Now that she's back in the atmosphere
With drops of Jupiter in her hair, hey, hey
She acts like summer and walks like rain
Reminds me that there's time to change, hey, hey
Since the return from her stay on the moon
She listens like spring and she talks like June, hey, hey

Tell me did you sail across the sun
Did you make it to the Milky Way to see the lights all faded
    And that heaven is overrated

Tell me, did you fall from a shooting star
    One without a permanent scar
And did you miss me while you were looking for yourself out there

Now that she's back from that soul vacation
Tracing her way through the constellation, hey, hey
She checks out Mozart while she does tae-bo
Reminds me that there's room to grow, hey, hey

Now that she's back in the atmosphere
I'm afraid that she might think of me as plain ol' Jane
Told a story about a man who is too afraid to fly so he never did land

Tell me did the wind sweep you off your feet
Did you finally get the chance to dance along the light of day
And head back to the milky way
And tell me, did Venus blow your mind
Was it everything you wanted to find
And did you miss me while you were looking for yourself out there

Can you imagine no love, pride, deep-fried chicken
Your best friend always sticking up for you even when I know you're wrong
Can you imagine no first dance, freeze dried romance five-hour phone
    Conversation
The best soy latte that you ever had, and me

Tell me did the wind sweep you off your feet
Did you finally get the chance to dance along the light of day
And head back toward the Milky Way

And are you lonely looking for yourself out there?

Tell me did you sail across the sun
Did you make it to the milky way to see the lights all faded
    And that heaven is overrated

Tell me, did you fall from a shooting star
    One without a permanent scar
And did you miss me while you were looking for yourself out there

Drops Of Jupiter (Tell Me) Song Chart
  • In an interview with VH1, lead singer Pat Monahan revealed that he wrote this song about the death of his mother. Train released their first album in 1998, and were touring that year when Monahan's mother was dying of lung cancer - she was a heavy smoker. This was before the widespread use of cell phones, and Monahan made many stops to pay phones on the tour to speak with his mom during this difficult time. In December of that year, his mother died, and in early 1999 Train was working on their next album when their record company started pressuring them for a hit. Monahan returned to his childhood home in Pennsylvania, and woke one morning with the words "back in the atmosphere" in his head. Beginning a time of healing, he started to compose the song. Said Monahan: "Loss of the most important person in my life was heavy on my mind, and the thought of 'what if no one ever really leaves? What if she's here but different. The idea was, she's back here in the atmosphere."

He recorded a demo of the song and played it a week later for Donnie Ienner, who was president of their record company, Columbia. While Monahan wasn't sure how the song would go over, Ienner loved it and told him it was his Grammy song. He was right: It won Grammys for Best Rock Song and Best Instrumental Arrangement With Accompanying Vocalist. Ienner had Train record the song quickly so they could put it on the album and use it as the title track.
  • The string section was arranged by Paul Buckmaster, who has done arrangements for Elton John, David Bowie, and The Rolling Stones.
  • Pat Monahan said of this song: "It was an obvious connection between me and my mother. 'Drops of Jupiter' was as much about me being on a voyage and trying to find out who I am. The best thing we can do about loss of love is find ourselves through it."
  • Train was in danger of becoming a one-hit-wonder before they released this. Their first hit, "Meet Virginia," was released 2 years earlier.
  • It was a few years before Monahan revealed the story behind this song, and the common interpretation is that it was about a woman who leaves her man to find out if they belong together. Monahan would give vague answers when asked about the song, at one point saying: "This is a woman who's strong and has to find out who she is and a man willing to let her do that."
  • This is the type of song which lends itself to personal interpretation, and was most often considered to be about a former lover, a young woman or just someone the writer knew who went on a voyage of self-discovery - not necessarily by traveling to distant lands.

When they suffer personal tragedy, many people feel a closeness to their departed loved one. This is not a song about reincarnation as such, but about the idea that no one ever really leaves us. In spite of the different subject matter, it bears a striking resemblance to the Cat Stevens composition "On The Road To Find Out." Whatever, it obviously struck a chord with many people, and deservedly spent over a year on the Billboard Hot 100.

Monahan said of the song: "It was an obvious connection between me and my mother. 'Drops of Jupiter' was as much about me being on a voyage and trying to find out who I am. The best thing we can do about loss of love is find ourselves through it." (thanks, Alexander Baron - London, England)
  • Monahan has a permanent scar on his chin, which could explain the line, "One without a permanent scar."
  • Brendan O'Brien produced this track. He has also worked with Pearl Jam and The Stone Temple Pilots. He became interested in the band when he heard their cover of "Ramble On" on the radio.
  • Train performed an updated version of this song at the 2002 Grammy awards, which included a cello prelude by Denise Djokic and a full orchestra. When Train won the award for Best Rock Song, Monahan thanked his mother.
  • This ascended to the top 10 of the Adult Contemporary chart in its 49th week, marking the longest climb to the top 10 on that tally by any act.
  • On December 25, 2009 Two and a Half Men actor Charlie Sheen was arrested on charges of domestic violence against his wife Brooke Mueller. According to Us Magazine their Christmas Day brawl was caused by this song. Sheen allegedly told police that he and his daughter share a love for Drops of Jupiter, which angered Mueller. She lashed out, "You have a song [that] you share with your daughter, but not one with me?" which ignited the fight. Patrick Monahan responded to the news on Twitter, "I'm pretty sure that Drops of Jupiter is a positive part of Charlie Sheen and his daughter's relationship. Just gonna look at it that way."
  • The song returned to the UK singles chart in April 2012 after being performed by audtionee Phil Poole on The Voice.

    Wrapped Up Lyrics

Now excuse me if I sound rude
But I love the way that you move
And I see me all over you now
Baby when I look in your eyes
There's no way that I can disguise
All these crazy thoughts in my mind now
    There's just something about you

    You got the lock
    I got the key
    You know the rest
You know just where I wanna be
    Don't ever stop controlling me
I kinda like it when you bring me to my knees

    You got me Wrapped Up
    Around your finger
I'd do anything for your love now
And when you touch it, the feeling lingers
Takes me up so I high I can't come down
You got me wrapped up baby

I don't ever wanna give up
All this spell you got me under
I see fireworks when we touch now
    There's just something about you
Your body fits on mine like a glove
Let them say whatever they want
It's too late cause you're in my blood now
    You got the lock
    I got the key
    You know the rest
You know just where I wanna be
    Don't ever stop controlling me

You got me so, so wrapped up
    There's just something about you
    You wrapped up
You got me so, so wrapped up
    There's just something about you

    My princess so intelligent
Make me wanna reapply to school for the hell of it
I'll be the student, you be the teacher
Ms. Sophisticated, such a pleasure to meet ya
Yeah, but here's the only issue since we met
You kinda turned my world upside down
And I don't really mind spiderman kissing you
As long as you're planning on sticking around
The happiest boy in the world award goes to me
Not a chance nobody came close to 'em
I kinda knew you was troublesome
You got me wrapped around your finger like bubblegum

    Everything that you do
    Every way that you move
    There's just something about you
    There's just something about you
    Everything that you do
    Every way that you move
    There's just something about you

  • The lead single from Never Been Better, this features American rapper Travie McCoy, who had an international smash hit in 2010 with "Billionaire." McCoy is also the lead vocalist of the rap rock band Gym Class Heroes.
  • Murs and McCoy co-wrote the song with the English songwriter Steve Robson and American hitmaker Claude Kelly. Robson and Kelly have co-penned and produced singles on all of Murs' previous albums including his UK chart-toppers "Please Don't Let Me Go", "Dance With Me Tonight" and "Troublemaker."
  • Olly Murs told Billboard magazine the story of the tune. "We were just writing different songs, and I said, 'Why don't we just try this other song today, something a bit disco-y, something a bit old school,' and that's what we came up with," he recalled. "We didn't think it was going to be a single when we were writing it, really. We just kind of went with the vibe. Sort of instantly we felt, 'This is actually a really good song and this could be a hit,' you know? That was kind of the vibe behind it."

"Disco music is something that I love," Murs added - Earth, Wind & Fire especially, Chic - that era of music is really popular and I love performing it on stage."

    Turning It Inside Out Lyrics

Sometimes I, could leave it all behind
Step off and find a place, to make a brand new life

And when we talk, I wonder who'll break first
We take it all apart, and twist each other's words
Look at us now, look at us now
    Turning It Inside Out

    And it won't turn, anymore

Sometimes I, could leave and disappear
Wait for this all to pass, and for the air to clear
Look at us now, look at us now
    Turning it inside out

    We're turning it inside out
    And it won't turn, anymore

    I've lost my place
    It all
It's kissing all my dreams away

  • Some of this song's lyrics provoked concerns that Phil Selway was thinking of leaving Radiohead. NME asked the drummer if such lyrics as "Sometimes I could leave it all behind" should worry the band's fans. He replied: "Inevitably frustrations can get the better of you if you're working in any kind of close relationship, but there is a song and then there is the reality of life. It's not sent out as a warning signal."

    In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida Song Chart
  • This was written by Doug Ingle, Iron Butterfly's vocalist and keyboard player. His father was a church organist.
  • The title was supposed to be "In The Garden Of Eden." Someone had written "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida," possibly while drunk, on a demo copy. A record company executive saw it and decided to use it as the title, since it sounded mystical and Eastern spirituality was big at the time, with The Beatles going to India and The Rolling Stones experimenting with Indian instruments.
  • Doug Ingle did not intend it this way when he wrote the song, but he album version is over 17 minutes long. The single was edited for radio.
  • Ron Bushy's drum solo is not as long as people think; it only runs about 2 1/2 minutes, from 6.30 to a little past 9 minutes. Doug Ingle's organ solo immediately follows. (thanks, James - Tracy, CA, for above 2)
  • The band's original guitar player quit before this was recorded. He was replaced by Eric Braun, who had only played the guitar for 3 months.
  • The title loosely translates as "In The Garden Of Life."
  • This was the first hit song that could be classified as "Heavy Metal." The phrase was introduced that year in the Steppenwolf song "Born To Be Wild."
  • Iron Butterfly would have performed this at Woodstock, but they didn't make it because they were stuck at the airport.
  • Hip-Hop artist Nas has 2 different songs that sample this. The first was "Thief's Theme" from his 2003 double album Street's Disciple. The second was the title track of his 2006 album Hip-Hop is Dead. (thanks, Nick - Erwin, NC)
  • Danny Weiss of Iron Butterfly was recommended to Al Kooper by David Crosby (of Crosby, Stills, & Nash), right when Kooper was forming Blood Sweat & Tears. As given in Backstage Passes and Backstabbing Bastards , "I loved the guitarist, introduced myself, and explained this concept to him. He thought it was a good idea, but insisted that he was committed to the band he was in. His name was Danny Weiss, and his band was Iron Butterfly. He left soon after we met anyway, and and joined the great but doomed band Rhinoceros."
  • The recording that is heard on the album was done as soundcheck filler for engineer Don Casale while the band waited for the arrival of producer Jim Hilton. However, after the rehearsal was completed it was agreed that the performance was of sufficient quality that another take wasn't needed.
  • The song was used in The Simpsons episode "Bart Sells His Soul," where Bart switches a hymn out for this song and convinces the Reverend Lovejoy it is penned by I. Ron Butterfly. The whole 17-minute version is played by the First Church of Springfield's exhausted church organist.

This record we just did was most definitely a dope record, a feel-good record, something the chicks are gonna be able to turn up to and let the bosses lean on the wall a little bit and shine for you."

    A Long Walk Lyrics

    You're here, I'm pleased
    I really dig your company
Your style, your smile, your peace mentality
    Lord, have mercy on me
I was blind, now I can see
What a king's supposed to be
Baby I feel free, come on and go with me

Let's take A Long Walk around the park after dark
Find a spot for us to spark
    Conversation, verbal elation, stimulation
Share our situations, temptations, education, relaxations
Elevations, maybe we can talk about Surah 31:18

Your background it ain't squeaky clean (shit)
Sometimes we all got to swim upstream
You ain't no saint, we all are sinners
But you put your good foot down and make your soul a winner
I respect that, man you're so phat
And you're all that, plus supreme
Then you're humble man I'm numb
Yo with feeling, I can feel everything that you bring

Let's take a long walk around the park after dark
Find a spot for us to spark
    Conversation, verbal elation, stimulation
Share our situations, temptations, education, relaxations
Elevations, maybe we can talk about Revelation 3:17

Or maybe we can see a movie
Or maybe we can see a play on Saturday (Saturday)
Or maybe we can roll a tree and feel the breeze and listen to a symphony
Or maybe chill and just be, or maybe
Maybe we can take a cruise and listen to the Roots or maybe eat some passion fruit
Or maybe cry to the blues
Or maybe we could just be silent
    Come on, Come on

Let's take a long walk around the park after dark
Find a spot for us to spark
    Conversation, verbal elation, stimulation
Share our situations, temptations, education, relaxations
Elevations, maybe we can talk about Surah 31:18

Let's take a long walk around the park after dark
Find a spot for us to spark
    Conversation, verbal elation, stimulation
Share our situations, temptations, education, relaxations
Elevations, maybe baby, maybe we can save the nation
    Come on, Come on

  • This is about a date Scott went on with a man she could connect with mentally and emotionally. His name is Lyzel, and he eventually became her husband.
  • This was the first song Scott ever recorded. The first take of her vocals is the one they used.
  • DJ Jazzy Jeff, known for his work with The Fresh Prince (Will Smith), created the backing track and took Scott into the studio to record this. He burned some copies of it and gave the CDs to people he knew in the music business. She was quickly singed by Hidden Beach Records.
  • Director Jessy Terrero shot the music video in the North Philadelphia neighborhood where Jill Scott grew up. The clip starts out in black-and-white and adds pops of color as Scott strolls through the area with her date. The label hated Scott's hair, which was shaved in the back, so Terrero added some distractions in post-production, including a pigeon flying by Scott's head. DJ Jazzy Jeff also makes a cameo appearance.

    Mabel Normand Lyrics

    Natural inner beauty
I guess you could say she's just an unapproachable comedienne
Haven't much faith in her talent
    She didn't work
No comedienne has not been the clown
    She did her work,
But her heart was quietly crying
I guess she even felt guilty
    'Bout even dying
    Sad Mabel Normand

    So my friend is continuing
    On a destructive road
His life passes before him like an
    Unfortunate circumstance
He and his friend are at odds
    And he is not winning...
Why does someone always have to win?
    He says it matters...
Strange things do follow when you love someone
So you put that someone in exile
How about I call you Beloved Exile...

    He called today
    He says, "Don't give up"
I ask him, "What are you talking about?"
I said things are not the same...
Since you've been gone Rome burned down
And still it's all the same
So I moved away from the house that held nothing
    But waiting for messages
And all through the day's seasons
I went running with the sun
And I pray every day for the answers
In a still and almost silent night
He began to hide his beauty
And I learned to say the words
Well, just whose side are you on, anyway?
    You change sides
    What does it matter?
    Still you change sides
Every other day you just change sides

So, continue on your destructive road
Oh, your life passes before me
    Like an unknown circumstance
You and your friend are at odds
    And you are not winning
Why does someone always have to win?
And all those races that are run
    They cause patterns
Strange things do follow when you love someone
So you put that someone in exile
And you say, "I'll write a book about it and call it Beloved Exile"

Well, her life was a gas
    Simply everything that happened
Well, the old lady said, yes it was sad
    She fought a losing battle
    One day at a time
She might even make it through tomorrow
Maybe in another show, natural inner beauty
I guess you could just say she was just unapproachable
    Baby, comedienne
    So beautiful, so beautiful
    She fought a losing battle
She might even make it through tomorrow
    So beautiful, so beautiful
    Sad we won't know her

  • Stevie Nicks recalled to Billboard magazine how writing this song about the drug-addicted actress Mabel Normand led her to tackle her own addictions. "Mabel was an amazing actress and comedian from the '20s, and she was a terrible cocaine addict," Nicks explained. "She eventually died of tuberculosis, but it was really her drug addiction that killed her."

"I saw a documentary of her in 1985, when I was at my lowest point with the blow," she added. "I was watching TV one night, the movie came on, and I really felt a connection with her. That's when I wrote the song. Less than a year later, I went to rehab at Betty Ford."

    Radio Ga Ga Lyrics

Radio, I'd sit alone and watch your light
My only friend through teenage nights
And everything I had to know
I heard it on my radio

You gave them all those old time stars
Through wars of worlds; invaded by Mars
You made 'em laugh, you made 'em cry
You made us feel like we could fly
    Radio

So don't become some background noise
A backdrop for the girls and boys
Who just don't know or just don't care
And just complain when you're not there
You had your time, you had the power
You've yet to have your finest hour
    Radio

All we hear is Radio ga-ga
    Radio goo-goo
    Radio ga-ga
All we hear is Radio ga-ga
    Radio blah blah
    Radio, what's new?
    Radio, someone still loves you

We watch the shows, we watch the stars
On videos for hours and hours
We hardly need to use our ears
How music changes through the years

Let's hope you never leave, old friend
Like all good things, on you we depend
So stick around because we might miss you
When we grow tired of all this visual
You had your time, you had the power
You've yet to have your finest hour
    Radio

All we hear is Radio ga-ga
    Radio goo-goo
    Radio ga-ga
All we hear is Radio ga-ga
    Radio goo-goo

    Radio Ga Ga Song Chart
  • Queen drummer Roger Taylor wrote this song. When it charted, all four members of the group had written at least one Top-10 hit.
  • Roger Taylor wrote this as a critique of radio stations, which were becoming commercialized and playing the same songs over and over (and this was before radio was deregulated, allowing companies to own multiple stations in a market, resulting in more corporate ownership, less competition and generally bad radio).
  • Taylor claimed that he was inspired to write this after watching MTV. He noticed that lots of kids were watching the channel instead of listening to the radio.
  • The video is based on the 1926 movie Metropolis, directed by Fritz Lang. Queen had to pay the German government to use clips of it in the video.
  • An extended version was released as a 12" single at the same time.
  • Originally, this was "Radio Ca-Ca," which was something Roger Taylor's part-French son Felix exclaimed one day in trying to say the radio was bad ("radio, CACA!). The phrase stuck with Taylor and inspired the anti-commercial radio themes in the lyrics.

Taylor liked the title, but the rest of the group objected and asked for a re-write. As a result, it went from a song condemning radio ("Ca-Ca") to praising it ("Ga Ga"). Interestingly however, even in the final recorded version, the phrase "Ca-Ca" is present - maybe as a compromise for Taylor?
  • Queen stole the show at Live-Aid when Freddie Mercury, battling laryngitis, got everybody in Wembly Stadium singing the chorus of this song.
  • The extras in the video got the clapping sequence right on the first try, but it took practice for the members of Queen to get it down. Director David Mallet was surprised the extras picked up the routine so easily, considering they'd never heard the song, which hadn't been released yet. (thanks, Jonathon - Clermont, FL)
  • The rock band Electric Six recorded this on their 2005 album Señor Smoke. In the video, their lead singer Dick Valentine is shown as the ghost of Freddie Mercury appearing in front of his grave, which caused controversy amongst Queen fans. Valentine was quick to stress that it was meant in tribute, not to denigrate the group - the band were massive Queen fans. (thanks, Logan - Troy, MT)
  • Lady Gaga took her name from this song. Born Stefani Germanotta, she started using the moniker when she needed a stage name. Who came up with the name is a matter of dispute, as her former producer Rob Fusari claims that he originated it, while the singer says it was given to her by her co-workers in her burlesque days.
  • When director David Mallet was coming up with the concept for the music video, he wanted to stray from the usual performance pieces full of guitar solos and drum fills. "And even [guitarist] Brian May agreed to that," Mallet told the documentary series Video Killed the Radio Star. Freddie Mercury suggested the Metropolis concept, but Mallet wanted to make sure the band still played a key role in the clip. "So we built that funny car and them flying through the air, and used the wide shots from Metropolis ... All I was trying to do is find some way of fitting Metropolis into a different setting, and I thought, what if we make the whole video a period - wartime, for instance, or semi-wartime, and it would tie it all together. And it did."
  • Some critics feel the choreography in the hand-clapping scene is a reference to Nazis, an idea that Mallet dismisses: "It didn't really have any bearing on Nazi rallies at all." Roger Taylor added: "That section was meant to sort of portray the mind control of the workers in the movie Metropolis."

  • This touching song is the first single from Tim Wheeler's debut solo album, Lost Domain. The disc documents the Ash frontman's emotional response to the loss of his father George to dementia.
  • This song documents George's final moments, as his loved ones gathered around his bedside as well as celebrating the strength of Wheeler's family. "It was a really hard time," he said. "But the closeness within my family made it a powerful bonding time as well."
  • A portion of the proceeds from Lost Domain is being donated to The Alzheimer's Society, a charity Wheeler has worked closely with since his father's death.
