"Red Line" is the fourth track from DEC3's self-titled debut album. The band was forced to release the song as the first single when their guitarist, Jon Haber, was asked to be interviewed on Fox News. They created a video for the song just for that occasion.

The song was inspired by the Syrian Civil War. DEC3's primary songwriter, Jon Haber, revealed in our interview with him why he chose that controversial topic. "When I wrote this song, recorded it, and it was mixed, no one was paying attention to the situation over there," he said. "I put myself in the shoes of a civilian living there who's going through all this craziness."

The lyrics mention real events that happened during the Syrian Uprising, such as chemical weapons like gas being used to kill innocent children by the President of Syria, Bashar al-Assad. Jon Haber watched the news day-to-day to help write the words for the tune, "There's a lot of material out there in order to write these lyrics. Just by watching and following the news, I was able to weave a story out of what I was seeing."

The song was written one year before the United States invaded Syria in September of 2014. The title was taken from a quotation from the President of the United States, Barack Obama, and the middle and ending of the song features sound bites from him. The civilian telling the story is upset and frustrated with Obama because he didn't do anything to help at the time even though he said he would.

"We said we were going to do something and we didn't do anything. The one last hope that someone had over there at that time was that somebody was going to come and help get them out of this dictator's grip," explained Haber.

Jon Haber wrote the guitar riff for the chorus of the song in 2010 and then wrote the rest of it about three years later over the course of one weekend.

The only song Jon Haber did not play bass on the album was "Red Line." Zach Cooper from the progressive rock band, Coheed and Cambria, contributed bass on the song. DEC3's drummer, Mike Kalajian, used to be in a group with Cooper so they enlisted his help when he was in town.

The last thing added to the song was the piano part that was played by Shane Keister from Five for Fighting, who is known for piano-based rock. Haber described his intention for that section, saying, "It's like a Bach fugue, which I wanted specifically something in that style juxtaposed against the rest of the music."

Boris The Spider Song Chart

This was the first Who song written by their bass player, John Entwistle. Pete Townshend ordered him to write a song for their second album. To encourage the band to write their own songs, their record company offered them a £500 advance if each member wrote a song on the album.

Entwistle was afraid of spiders as a kid. He wrote this about seeing a spider crawling from the ceiling and squishing it.

Entwistle wrote this as a joke, but it became a concert favorite. It is a fun song that offset many of the more serious Who songs.

This was the only song from the album that they continued to play live.

In the UK, the album was called A Quick One. It was changed to Happy Jack in the US to avoid being offensive.

After he wrote this, Entwistle started wearing a spider medallion at concerts.

"We're All Friends" from DEC3's debut self-titled album is the fifth track on it. The song is about Facebook and the character in it portrays the social media obsessed generation well. DEC3's guitarist and songwriter, Jon Haber, explained in our interview why he wrote a tune about that topic. "I wanted to come up with something a little bit different than these straight love songs all the time," he said.

The lyrics describe the mundane tasks that people feel the need to share on Facebook such as waking up, brushing your teeth, and posting pictures of your meal while on a date. "I made the song kind of humorous, tongue-in-cheek, but really sarcastic," revealed Haber. "He's the same as everybody else so it's self-deprecating as well and that's why it works. He's not better than anybody else in the song. He is everybody else."

Jon Haber put his musical aspirations on hold at the age of 24 to open his own successful New York instrument retail chain, Alto Music. After 25 years of being away, Haber decided that it was time to return to being a guitarist in a band. Despite the fact that Haber was not performing all those years, he was still writing songs. One day in February of 2013, Haber had the urge to gather all the tunes to properly record them, and, ultimately, marking the beginning of the DEC3 project.

In our interview, Haber recalled why he wanted to make the album: "I figured that I had all these great songs, ones that I really like and thought that people will like them, too. I went about getting that together and as I started doing it, I started writing and I became very prolific. So most of the songs on the record are new ones - eight of the 12 are new ones that I'd written."

Jon Haber figured that he could play most of the instruments and produce the album himself. Chris Saulpaugh, who Haber has collaborated with on all his songs throughout the years, covered the vocal duties. Haber needed a drummer so the final piece to the puzzle was enlisting the help of his co-worker and friend, Mike Kalajian. Haber named the project DEC3 after realizing that all three men were born in different decades.

"Sunshine" is the seventh track on DEC3's debut self-titled album and one of the oldest songs on it. Jon Haber explained in our interview his intention for the tune, saying: "It was one of the ones that when I started this project I said that I was going to re-do."

Chris Saulpaugh recorded the vocals for it in 2000 and re-did some parts for the new version. "We popped in six vocal lines that I changed a few things lyrically but you can't even tell," revealed Haber.

Haber unveiled to us the true meaning of this summer jam: "Everybody has their thing that helps them get through the day, be it religion, drugs, booze, or yoga. But, of all the things, the best thing is just love."

Jim Morrison was so drunk when he recorded this song, he needed help from the studio staff on when to begin singing. If you listen closely, you can hear someone in the background say "One more time" before Jim starts his first verse. (thanks, Jeff - wyckoff, NJ)

Morrison got the idea for this while waiting in the audience before performing a concert in 1967.

On bootlegs of live recordings, Morrison included the phrase "f--ked up" in the spoken word section at the end. He swore a lot at live shows, but the studio albums were always curse-free.

The part of the song about "Shadows of the evening" is an adaptation of the Victorian-era hymn "Shadows of the Evening," whose first verse is:

Robby Krieger recorded a version of this with Marilyn Manson for the 2000 Doors tribute album Stoned Immaculate .

In 2000, the surviving members of the Doors taped a VH1 Storytellers episode with guest vocalists filling in for Morrison. Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland sang on this track.

Jay-Z sampled this on his 2000 song "Takeover." The track was produced by Kanye West, who often uses old rock or R&B songs in rap records.

Mos Def sampled this track on his 2004 release "The Rape Over" from his album The New Danger. Mos Def's song contains the bass line and drums with Jim Morrison's "Come On!" at the beginning of the track. "Free My Love" is the tenth track on DEC3's 2014 debut self-titled album. It was written by DEC3's primary songwriter, Jon Haber . Even though Haber walked away from performing at the age of 24 to open his successful New York instrument retail chain, Alto Music, he never stopped writing songs.

"Free My Love" was the first tune that Haber and longtime vocal collaborator, Chris Saulpaugh, worked on together in 1997. When Haber decided to start the DEC3 project in February of 2013, "Free My Love" was one of the old songs that Haber re-did for the album. He even changed the lyrics and title. Haber only kept a couple of parts and a guitar solo from the original recording.

In our interview with Haber, he explained the story happening in the song. "Basically, the guy had two loves in his life: his girl and then drugs or alcohol. The guy's in jail and that's the imagery I'm trying to portray," he said.

It is a dark tune displaying that the man made the wrong choice between his loves, but he would still make that same choice again despite the outcome.

Jim Morrison wrote this in 1965 after seeing a beautiful woman walking on the beach. He thought up the song and wrote it that night. The song was not recorded until three years later.

Many fans considered this a sellout to Top 40 music. It was very radio-friendly, and not as deep or offensive as previous Doors songs.

This was one of six songs recorded for a demo the Doors recorded in 1965. Robby Krieger had not yet joined the band.

The music is similar to The Kinks' song "All Day And All Of The Night." So similar, that The Doors paid royalties from the British single to The Kinks after the threat of legal action.

Looking back, Ray Davies was philosophical about the episode, recalling to Mojo magazine September 2012: "The funniest thing was when my publisher came to me on tour and said The Doors had used the riff for 'All Day And All Of The Night' for 'Hello, I Love You.' I said rather than sue them, can't we just get them to own up? My publisher said, 'They have, that's why we should sue them!' (laughs) Jim Morrison admitted it, which to me was the most important thing. The most important thing, actually, is to take (the idea) somewhere else."

Robby Krieger ran his guitar through a fuzz box to get a distorted effect like Cream's "Sunshine Of Your Love."

The line "Queen of the angels" refers to Los Angeles, the "City of Angels." The Doors were from LA.

This was the first Doors song that was successful in Europe.

The R.E.M. song "Pop Song '89" is a play on this. Instead of talking about sex, they talk to the girl about politics and the weather.

Jim Morrison wrote the lyrics while he was living on a rooftop in Venice Beach, California. At night everything was clear, so he would look into peoples windows, study what they were doing, and watch their TV sets. (thanks, Shelby - Lincoln City, OR)

Jim Morrison recited this as a poem to Ray Manzarek when they ran into each other on a beach in Southern California in 1965. Manzarek, who knew Morrison from UCLA film school, thought it was great and convinced him to form a band.

This was the first song recorded by The Doors. It was left off their first album because they felt it wasn't good enough. Speaking with Gibson.com in a 2011 interview, Manzarek recalled there was chemistry straight away: "I knew instantly we had found 'it,' that indefinable, transcendent something that Kerouac refers to," he said. "I remember showing Robby the chord changes for a simple 'G' progression. He pulled out his bottleneck and said, 'I've got an idea for this, something sort of liquid-like.' A lot of The Doors music came to be like that – water-y. That came from living on the beach. We were actually there, whereas even The Beach Boys, for instance, didn't really live on the beach."

The Doors started recording this as more of a Blues song. Ray Manzarek got the idea during recording to do it as "a rock tango."

The lyrics are about a tryst on the beach under the moonlight.

This was one of 6 songs The Doors recorded for a demo at Aura records in 1965. They didn't get a record deal out of it, but signed with Elektra 2 years later.

This was released as the B-side of "Love Me Two Times."

This song finds Stuart Murdoch appealling for inspiration and receiving the reply: "Be popular, play pop, and you will win my love." It was the first song he wrote for The Girls in Peacetime Want to Dance and it came to the Belle & Sebastian frontman in 2014 during a day off in Switzerland at the end of the band's summer shows. He explained to Uncut: "I was in Switzerland at the end of the tour with the band thinking, 'Gosh... I have to write! I have no idea where these songs are gonna come from.' And I felt like a pleading to 'the muse.' It's not far away from the sentiment of an Abba song, you know, 'Thank You For The Music'. I'm flirting with the spirit of music."

Murdoch told the story of the song to Drowned in Sound : "I had borrowed a bike and was exploring the numerous paths that weaved around Zurich. I fund a nice warm leafy spot and began thinking about the upcoming album. I had a couple of songs lying around, but I knew I would have to get a pile more from somewhere."

"I know that I'm always saying that songs come from somewhere else, but I really believe it. Songs usually come to me just as I wake up, melody and rhythm at least, sometimes the whole thing."

"So while I sat there beside the allotments of Zurich, eating plums from the overhanging branches, I thought about trying to summon the Muse."

"I thought I could use flattery: I would write a song about waiting for the Muse to arrive. I would beseech her to show herself, knowing that the music wouldn't be any good unless she brought her magic."

"So I wrote the words down, and the song became 'The Everlasting Muse.' And it might seem like an outlandish conceit, but really, I would be nowhere without music."
