Waiting For The Sun Song Chart
  • "Waiting For The Sun" is the title of The Doors third album, and they tried to record it in those sessions, but didn't like how it came out. They brought it back 2 years later for their fifth album, Morrison Hotel.
  • This is about the quest for the American Dream, which is never attained.
  • Barney Hoskyns used this as the title of a book about the music scene in Los Angeles.
  • After their fourth album, The Soft Parade, was criticized for being too commercial, The Doors returned to their roots on this, which resulted in more simple songs based on The Blues.

    Somebody Lyrics

    I wanna rock with Somebody
I wanna take shots with somebody
    I wanna leave with somebody
And we ain't gonna tell nobody, we ain't gonna tell nobody

Walk in, everybody knows what's good
But some gonna hate, what's new?
We just do our thing, no time to waste
    Always play it cool

And at the end of the night when the lights go out
Will we turn down? Oh no we won't
(We ain't never turnin' down, we ain't never turnin' down)
And when they try to make us leave
We turn and say we never going home
(And you know just what I wanna do)

    I wanna rock with somebody
I wanna take shots with somebody
    I wanna leave with somebody
And we ain't gotta tell nobody, we ain't gotta tell nobody

Walk in, everybody know what's good
    We're our only plug
Bring us everything we think we need
    Tonight is goin' up
    Tonight is goin' up

And at the end of the night when the lights go out
Will we turn down? Oh no we won't
(We ain't never turnin' down, we ain't never turnin' down)
And when they try to make us leave
We turn and say we never going home

    I wanna rock with somebody
I wanna take shots with somebody
    I wanna leave with somebody
And we ain't gotta tell nobody, we ain't gotta tell nobody

    In the club like what
We be in the party in the club like what
    And the club like
We be in the city going dumb like what
    In the club like what
We be in the party in the club like what
We be in the city going dumb like what
We be in the party in the club like what

  • Born and raised in Amsterdam, Holland, Natalie La Rose moved to Los Angeles to pursue her dreams of becoming a singer and dancer at the age of 20. In 2013 she inked a deal with Flo Rida's International Music Group (I.M.G.) label, two years after she'd told the rapper at an ESPY Awards after-party that she was going to work with him one day.
  • This is La Rose's debut single. The song is a reworking of Whitney Houston's 1987 chart topper "I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)" with updated lyrics that celebrate a club-inspired romance. "It's a fun and funky song," remarked La Rose. "It's feel-good, and it reminds me of summertime. I love to be around people, have a great time, and dance. That's what it stands for."
  • The song features Jeremih who croons the hook. La Rose explained: "While we were recording Jeremih happened to be in Miami for a Big Dreams for Kids Back to School Event and Flo invited him to the studio to sing on it. He nailed it on the first take!"
  • Jeremih recorded his vocals around the time he was in the Hot 100 with his own retooling of a classic late 20th century tune. The R&B vocalist's "Don't Tell 'Em" was a reworking of Snap!'s "Rhythm Is A Dancer."
  • Asked by Billboard magazine what attracted her to Whitney Houston's hit tune, La Rose replied: "I'm a huge fan of '80s music and grew up listening to that. I heard this beat and told Flo Rida we should write to it. He came up with 'I wanna dance with somebody,' and we switched up the lyrics a little to make it more nowadays. But eventually we found out the beat wasn't available, so we had to create a new one."

"It took nine different versions - we were so married to the other beat, so it was hard to get used to. Flo Rida has a great ear. I wouldn't say I take my sound from him, but definitely the work ethic."
  • The background vocals that go "shots, shots, shots, shots..." is copped from the song "Shots" by LMFAO featuring Lil Jon.

    No Scrubs Lyrics

A scrub is a guy that think he's fine
And is also known as a buster
Always talkin' about what he wants
And just sits on his broke ass
    So (no)

I don't want your number (no)
I don't want to give you mine and (no)
I don't want to meet you nowhere (no)
I don't want none of your time and (no)

    [Chorus]
    I don't want no scrub
A scrub is a guy that can't get no love from me
    Hanging out the passenger side
    Of his best friend's ride
    Trying to holler at me
    I don't want no scrub
A scrub is a guy that can't get no love from me
    Hanging out the passenger side
    Of his best friend's ride
    Trying to holler at me

But a scrub is checkin' me
But his game is kinda weak
And I know that he cannot approach me
cause I'm lookin' like class and he's lookin' like trash
Can't get wit' no deadbeat ass
    So (no)

I don't want your number (no)
I don't want to give you mine and (no)
I don't want to meet you nowhere (no)
I don't want none of your time (no)

    [Chorus]

If you don't have a car and you're walking
Oh yea son I'm talking to you
If you live at home wit' your momma
Oh yes son I'm talking to you (baby)
If you have a shorty but you don't show love
Oh yes son I'm talking to you
Wanna get with me with no money
Oh no I don't want no (oh)

    No scrub
    No scrub (no no)
No scrub (no no no no no)

  • This song is about men who have nothing going for them, but hit on women just the same, even resorting to hopeless tactics like hollering at women from the passenger seat of their friend's car. The song vaulted the term "Scrub" into the popular lexicon, and it became a well-used word to describe a worthless man.
  • Future Real Housewives of Atlanta cast member Kandi Burruss wrote this with help from producer Kevin "She'kspere" Briggs, and Tameka "Tiny" Cottle. Burruss and Cottle were members of the recently disbanded group Xscape, who had a hit in 1993 with "Just Kickin' It," and they had formed their own duo, which they called KAT (Kandi And Tameka). Briggs was an up-and-coming producer at LaFace records, home of TLC, and he had written what would become "No Scrubs," but with completely different lyrics. After meeting Briggs through their manager, Burruss and Cottle asked if they could try writing different lyrics to the song, which they then hoped to record. Burruss got the "No Scrubs" idea after talking about some of her ex-boyfriends - she and her friends used the word "Scrubs" a lot. She and Cottle finished the new lyrics and took them to Briggs, who instead of putting the song together for KAT, brought it to LaFace where the execs decided it would be a great song for TLC. Burruss, who had songwriting aspirations but didn't write in Xscape, was hesitant about giving up the song, but knew it was the right thing to do. It worked out well for her, as even though her singing career wound down, she became a popular songwriter, later teaming up with Briggs to write another man-basher: "Bills, Bills, Bills" for Destiny's Child.
  • This was the first single released from Fanmail, the followup to TLC's wildly successful second album CrazySexyCool, which sold over 11 million copies. "No Scrubs" kept them in the groove and was a major hit. The song was a no-brainer for radio stations, as it was a fresh sound from an established group that had already made the R&B, Pop and Adult Contemporary charts. A smooth, mid-tempo number with a very memorable title, it found a home on all these formats, as did their next single, "Unpretty."
  • The word "scrub" has developed many uses, including what you do to rid your computer of viruses or remove items from a budget. "Scrubs" are what hospital workers wear, and a show with that name debuted on NBC in 2001.
  • The group Sporty Thievz released a response song from the male perspective called "No Pigeons." This renewed the popularity of "No Scrubs" as radio stations played the songs back-to-back.
  • This song is heavy on the "C" and light on the "T" and "L." It was the first TLC song that Chilli (Rozanda Thomas), sang lead on by herself; T-Boz (Tionne Watkins) did most of their lead vocals to that point. Kevin Briggs is the one who decided she would sing on it, and he worked with her to get the vocal down. He thought her vocal range was right for the track, and liked the idea of having her get her first lead. "We had some resistance from the other girls at one point, but we ended up working it out," said Briggs.
  • This won Grammys for Best Rhythm & Blues Song and for Best Rhythm & Blues Performance by a Group.
  • This song is TLC's biggest seller in the UK, selling 553,200 copies.

    Push Pull Lyrics

You were young and you'd start
    With a reverence incurred
There was an echo far and faint
    Beneath the air remained
You were young and you'd stare
Where my limbs hung far and fair
Make a ladder of what folds and climb up in me

You push and you pull and you tell yourself no
It's like when you lie down, the vein's growing slow
You push and you pull but you would never know
I crept up in you and I wouldn't let go

There was no light and I swear
I could see a rearing fear
I heard the planes moaning back
I saw the thunder roll or black
There was no light and I swear
We sat still in our fear
Make a ladder of what folds and climb up in me

You push and you pull and you tell yourself no
It's like when you lie down, the vein's growing slow
You push and you pull but you would never know
I crept up in you and I wouldn't let go

I carve out the spaces and I
    Imparted graces and I
    I couldn't shake it and I

    I build a constellation lair
Out of the moles that hovered there
A fever billowed with the wind
And I obeyed the sky therein
    I build a constellation lair
Out of the moles that hovered there
Make a pardon of what knows and climb up in me

You push and you pull and you tell yourself no
It's like when you lie down, the vein's growing slow
You push and you pull but you would never know
I crept up in you and I wouldn't let go

You push and you pull and you tell yourself no

  • The lead single from Another Eternity, vocalist Megan James described the lyrical content to MTV News as a "sort of stream of consciousness." She added: "It was a time when I was moving from one side of Canada, the east side, and driving in four days all the way to Edmonton. It was kind of a big deal for me to move then, so I think it's a lot about linear emotions and driving through landscapes and relating that to an experience where I felt like I was… I was trying to put myself… be where I was, that turned into existing in that traverse."

"The song travels a lot I think. But at the same I still don't really know what it's about."
  • The song's music video was crafted by Purity Ring in collaboration with photographer and videographer Renata Raksha. We see Megan James spinning and floating throughout the clip as if she's underwater. Asked where the treatment came from by MTV News, she replied: "I don't know where it came from but, like, there was haste to do it, so it had to be a simple concept. Sort of like those videos where the artist is, like, there's often one shot focused on them singing and minimal. We knew it had to be that because we were trying to do it in a short period of time, but we also tried to bring in really simple elements that would create a more intriguing or interesting appeal."

"And yeah, the movement, we wanted something that would move and also bring an underwater element," James added. "Everything we do has kind of an otherworldly tinge, we're trying to create another, a different place to exist. It was an attempt to make it appear like I wasn't actually on the ground."

  • The banged drum in the first line of each verse (while that line was sung accapella) was not planned - in one of the first takes, a batted baseball struck the outer wall of the studio. When the take was played back, the group decided to keep the sound in the song. (thanks, Brad Wind - Miami, FL, for above 2)
  • This was the only hit for the group, who were from Newark, New Jersey.

  • Sha-Na-Na sang this at Woodstock in 1969.

These days I'm afraid of me
There's fire where my heart should be
My cold feet and as weak
My mouth doesn't dare to speak
'Cause I've been looking too hard for something,
    Looking too hard for something
    Giving it all for nothing,
Trying too hard to Love Again

Uh uh uh eh eh eh
Looking for, looking for to love again
Uh uh uh eh eh eh
Looking for, looking for to love again

    In light of reality,
The truth it's too good to be
    Looking too hard for something,
    Looking too hard for something
    Giving it all for nothing,
Trying too hard to love again

  • This was one of the last songs that Rae Morris wrote for Unguarded. She told DIY magazine: "I had come out of the other end of the feeling of falling in love for the first time and doing all that. This song is me realizing that it's all a circle, it's all a process. You can go through something and then come out of the other end. This is a real indicator that there's always light at the end of the tunnel and I think it was a bit of a revelation writing it because I don't usually like really positive and uplifting songs, so I was very grateful to have that moment of positivity."
  • The song features a club production, a major change from the sound of Morris' early piano ballad singles. She explained to Digital Spy : "'Love Again' is a very hopeful song. The production just follows the song. If you take the production away, it's got like a house-y piano and rhythm and I wrote that here in London in my flat."

"It's just a song again, but it's a lot more uplifting and, I think, I myself needed a moment like that. I needed a moment of, 'This is it! This is what I've been looking for. I've been looking really hard for something and this is what it is'!"

  • The Doors released this as a single, but did not make the Top 40.
  • Morrison was abusing alcohol during most of the recording of this album. Since songs like this involved a lot of instruments and took a while to record, Morrison had a lot of time to get drunk. As a result, he didn't contribute much to it.

It changed everything. And yeah, completely opened my life."

"I don't say that I'm gay because I haven't been in a relationship with a girl since then," she added. "And I don't actually label my sexuality at all 'cause I don't actually know myself. I was 17 when I fell in love with her, and I fell in love with a songwriter – a force of nature."

  • The title track of Colt Ford's debut album, "Ride Through the Country" finds the country rapper laying out his doctrine and explaining how he grew up. Ford grew up in Athens, Georgia and enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, spending a lot of time outdoors with friends and family. It's the beginning of a rags-to-riches story, as his upbringing gave him material for various hit songs, specifically Jason Aldean country #1 "Dirt Road Anthem," which he wrote with Brantley Gilbert.

By sticking to his roots and his unique style, Ford carved out a fulfilling and successful career as a songwriter and artist.
  • In our interview with Colt Ford, he explained that as a new artist, he felt it was important to introduce himself to his audience and make it very clear what he stands for, which is why he wrote this song. Said Ford: "I wanted to plant that flag and say, All right, this is me, this is everything that I stand for, that I believe in. You listen to that song, you don't much have to ask about who I am and what I believe in. It says it all right there."
  • Many of Ford's songs feature a more traditional country singer crooning the hook between verses, and on this one, John Michael Montgomery does the honors.
  • Ford wrote this song with his buddies Jared Scuillo, Justin Spillner, Shannon Houchins and Demun Jones. Scuillo, Spillner and Houchins also collaborated with Ford on a few other tracks on the album, including "Mr. Goodtime" and "Cold Beer."

    Ha, ha, ha, ha

    Waffle House Lyrics

    Waffle House Song Chart
  • A track from Colt Ford's first album, this song is based on a story a friend told the county rapper. The song is about a guy who is distraught because he thinks his woman is cheating on him. He finds himself at a Waffle House, staring at a plate of grits and asking for his gun.

Less a murder ballad than a comic patter, it's safe to assume that the guy in the Waffle House comes to his senses and abandons his homicidal thoughts once he sobers up.

Folks growing up in Waffle House heavy communities are more likely to see the humor in this song, as the quirky eateries tend to attract such drama, which is often diffused over a good meal.
  • In our interview with Colt Ford, he said he was surprised how many people had a connection with this song. "It's amazing how many people come up and go, ''Waffle House,' man, I live that dang thing!,' he told us. "You're like, Wow, that's sad, but it's cool."
  • Sunny Ledfurd is the guest vocalist on this track. Ford wrote the song with Scott Weatherwax and Dugi Bakalli.
