Billy Joel gets a lot of song ideas in his dreams, and often struggles to remember them when he wakes up. For this song, however, he woke up with the song in his head, but tried NOT to write it. He explained on The Howard Stern Show in 2010: "I thought, Who the hell am I to try to pull off this gospel song, so I took a shower to wash this song away. I sang it in the shower and knew I had to do it."

In Joel's dream, he was "walking in his sleep," which inspired that lyric.

Joel has said that the phrase "River of Dreams" is a play on the phrase "Stream of Consciousness."

This is a very spiritual song where Joel, who identifies himself as an atheist, includes some biblical imagery, including the line, "Through the valley of fear," which is a reference to Psalm 23:4 - "Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil." Joel also says that the river is a religious image, as "there's baptizing in a river and you have to cross the river - people are getting dunked in the river and there's rivers of blood."

The cover of the River Of Dreams album was painted by supermodel Christie Brinkley, who was Joel's second wife.

Danny Kortchmar co-produced this song with Joe Nicolo, who was also the engineer. In the '70s, Kortchmar toured and recorded with James Taylor, and also played on popular albums by Jackson Browne, David Crosby/Graham Nash, Linda Ronstadt and many others. Some of his other production credits include the albums Blaze of Glory by Jon Bon Jovi and End Of The Innocence by Don Henley. In our interview with Kortchmar , he talked about his production philosophy, which suited the introspective nature of this track:

"Get the most out of the artists you're working for. And get something that's true to them and that represents them and is also catchy and is going to attract people - attract ears. So it's really just a matter of being true to the artist's original vision of himself, because I'm not one of these people that wants to be a svengali and wants to change somebody into something else."

Joel performed this song at the Grammy Awards ceremony in 1994, where it was up for Record of the Year (it lost to Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You"). Joel, backed by a large gospel choir on a set designed to look like a church, used the false ending about two-and-a-half minutes into the song as an opportunity to make a point: instead of waiting a beat and continuing the song, he stopped cold, looked at his watch and said, "Valuable advertising time going by... dollars." Joel later said that he was protesting because producers cut off Frank Sinatra's acceptance speech earlier in the telecast when Sinatra was given a Legend Award.

The video was directed by Andy Morahan, who also did Joel's clip for "The Downeaster Alexa." It was shot in Connecticut; the bridge scenes were done at the Providence & Worcester railroad bridge in Middletown, which crosses the Connecticut River. Joel's daughter, Alexa Ray, and wife, Christie Brinkley, appear in the video along the riverbank with Brinkley painting the album cover.

This stripped-down Soul jam was released as the seventh promotional single from Justin's #MusicMondays series, a 10-week drive in which he unveiled a new tune every Sunday at midnight. The song finds him collaborating with R. Kelly as the pair share boasts about putting it down with their ladies. The Chicago crooner told Vibe magazine: "[Justin] just called me to do a song and it's hot. He wanted to go and do some R&B stuff so we got together and did that."

"PYD" is shorthand for "Put You Down" and is said to be a play off of Michael Jackson's "P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)."

The song is the raunchiest cut that Bieber has recorded to date. It finds him promising to give his girl the "best you've ever had" and describing all of the places he would like to put her down, which include the:

Kelly heats it up further on the second verse where he promises to be her "dope man in the bedroom."

Justin Bieber told The Hollywood Reporter of the song: "I was going for a modern Boyz II Men sound," he said. "I'm really influenced by R&B, but I love everybody -- from Michael Jackson to The Beatles to, like, Led Zeppelin and Korn."

Kelly told The Sun about this collaboration with Justin: "He's coming over into the R&B world and I welcomed him like 'what up!' We happened to be in the same hotel one day, and we played each other music for like two hours, we talked about getting together and two months later we did it."

The title track of Mandisa's Overcomer album was written by Christopher Stevens, David Garcia and Ben Glover in the fall of 2010.

2010 and 2012 BMI Christian Songwriter of the Year, Christopher Stevens has worked with CCM artists TobyMac and Sanctus Real as well as country singers Blake Shelton and Carrie Underwood. He has collaborated with David Garcia and Ben Glover on several projects including Christian Hip Hop-R&B-Pop rock duo Group 1 Crew's Fearless album.

This was used as the title song for the Good Morning America series Overcomers, in which host Robin Roberts asked viewers to share their personal stories to the world.

The single proved to be a big hit for Mandisa. It became the 20th tune to top Billboard's Christian Songs chart for at least 10 weeks. It was also the first by a woman to log a reign of double-digit weeks; of the prior 19 such hits, ten were by solo men and nine by male groups or trios.

This won the Grammy Award in 2014 for Best Contemporary Christian Music Song. Overcomer also won for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album.

The first single from Metronomy's Love Letters album finds Joe Mount crooning a tale of doomed romance. "I've seen our stars and there's nothing aligning," he laments. The song was premiered on Zane Lowe's BBC Radio 1 show on November 11, 2013.

Continuing the astral theme, the song was made available through an astronomy app called The Night Sky app, which was activated when the user found the Aquarius constellation in the sky. It was made available exclusively for one week to existing and new users of the app.

The video was directed by Edouard Salier, who previously helmed Justice's "Civilization" music clip. It finds frontman Joseph Mount encountering a goddess and hairless cats on an alien planet. "It's so hard to create an original science fiction movie since the whole genre's been mopped around in every direction," said Salier. "I wanted to do something very slow and contemplative, taking place in a very colourful and artistic universe."

Joe Mount told NME the background to this song: "I'm a Virgo," he said, "but there's a nice tradition of these songs from the 60s when astrology was a really cool thing to sing about, like, 'Aquarius,' (by The 5th Dimension), that I wanted to be part of."

Mount expanded on the song to NME: "Astrology, I don't believe in," he said, laughing. "I like spiritual people, I like people that believe that Jupiter is doing something that is relevant to them. I like how self-centered that is!"

"I wrote it as a soulful pop song and never imagined I would be the one to sing it." Mount continued. "I wanted to write a word the song that was about a breakup and someone basically blaming it on the planets, not on the fact that they are not very good in relationships."

Mount sent the song to Girls Aloud singer Nicola Roberts, who he worked with on her debut solo album Cinderella Eyes. He told The Sun: "I realise I'm lucky now that I got to keep it. It's a song that stayed with me and it works so well on this album."

Black Light Burns is led by Limp Bizkit guitarist Wes Borland, whose credo is evident on this song. "I was thinking how I would probably kill myself if I was in a 9-to-5 cubicle type of job," he said in our 2013 interview . "I thought about how all these people in the world are looking at their phones all the time at dinner and they're watching reality television and how most of the things that they're talking about conversation-wise are either gossip about other people, or they're talking about a show that they watched."

Explaining the song if further detail, Borland told us: "'Scream Hallelujah' was a lament; it was a very sarcastic lament encouraging people to just stay on the tracks that they've been put on, stick to the ideals that their parents instilled in them as they were growing up. Don't stay inside and watch that s--tty show over and over again until you're unable to breathe in the plastic bag that you put over your head to kill yourselves.

It's almost like worshiping Western culture and how just f--ked it is, not in a paranoid way where I think that they're putting something in the water that's brainwashing everyone, but they're definitely putting something through our televisions and through the food we're eating and through fashion magazines and through insane maniac, everyone panic type of media. Giving people all this stuff to worry about and talk about that really doesn't matter at all. People are basing their whole lives on it, so it's almost like a religion."

The vocals were written before the music was composed for this song. Wes Borland feels that many of his best songs begin with the words, as it's easier for him to come up with riffs to match a strong set of lyrics than the other way around.

The first song from Bullet for My Valentine's fifth album was released on November 18, 2013. It's a return to Bullet for My Valentine's early work, focusing heavily on the band's guitar section. "It's definitely more of a step towards our first two records," drummer Michael "Moose" Thomas told Billboard magazine regarding the LP. "We always like to keep changing our records and our sounds and stuff. I think you have to change, otherwise it gets boring for us and the fans get bored. Look at all the great bands through rock history; they changed on all their albums - especially Metallica. Their albums have always changed, and they're the biggest metal band ever. So we just want to keep changing and get to another level each time out."

When the band arrived in the studio to record this song, it didn't have a title or even lyrics. Vocalist Matt Tuck told Kerrang! magazine: "I don't really like to write vocals and melodies until the song is complete musically. I just let the music take me wherever I think it needs to go. That's how I've always done it – I get inspired by the music itself. I sit down with an almost finished version and have it by myself for a couple of hours. Until then, I don't really know exactly how the song will turn out."
