Leave (Get Out) Lyrics

I've been waiting all day for ya babe
So won't you come sit and talk to me
And tell me how we're gonna be together always
Hope you know that when this late at night
I hold on to a pillow tight
I think about how you promised me forever
I never thought that anyone could make me feel this way
Now that you're here boy all I want is just a chance to say

Get out (leave) right now
It's the end of you and me
It's too late (now) and I can't wait for you to be gone
'Cause I know about her (who)
And I wonder (why) how I bought all the lies
You said that you would treat me right
But you were just a waste of time (waste of time)

Tell me why you looking so confused
When I'm the one that didn't know the truth
How could you ever be so cold?
You go behind my back and call my friend
Boy you must've fall and bumped your head
'Cause you left your number on her phone
So now that after all that you've said and done
Maybe I'm the one to blame but
To think that you could be the one
Well it didn't work out that way

Get out (leave) right now
It's the end of you and me
It's too late (now) and I can't wait for you to be gone (you to be gone)
'Cause I know about her (move)
And I wonder (why) how I bought all the lies (all the lies)
You said that you would treat me right (you said that you)
But you were just a waste of time (waste of time)

I wanted you right here with me
But I have no choice you've got to leave
Because my heart is breaking with
Every word I'm saying, I gave up everything I had
On something that just would not last
But I refuse to cry
No tears will fall from these eyes (oh, oh)

Get out
Get out (leave) right now
It's the end of you and me (you and me)
It's too late (now) and I can't wait for you to be gone (you to be gone)
'Cause I know about her (move)
And I wonder (why) how I bought all the lies (how did I)
You said that you would treat me right (you said that you)
But you were just a waste of time (waste of time)

Get out (leave) right now
It's the end of you and me (hey yeah)
It's too late (now) and I can't wait for you to be gone (you to be gone)
'Cause I know about her (move)
And I wonder (why) how I bought all the lies
You said that you would treat me right (treat me right)
But you were just a waste of time (waste of time)

Get out (leave) (you and me)
It's too late (too late) (now)
About her (now) (why)
You said that you would treat me right
But you were just a waste of time (oh)

  • Jojo was 13 when this was released, and the song deals with relationship problems typical of a girl her age, namely a breakup with a boyfriend who started seeing someone else. Jojo said that she could relate to the song, as she knows what it's like to feel disrespected in a relationship.
  • The song deals with the emotional tribulations of an adolescent girl, but it was written by four men: Alex Cantrall, Ken Karlin, Carsten Schack and Phillip White.

Schack and Karlin are the Danish production duo Soulshock and Karlin, and they produced the track; White is a veteran songwriter whose credits include "I Like Them Girls" by Tyrese and "Strings Of Love" by George Benson; Cantrall also co-wrote "Truth Is" by Fantasia and "Tell Me" by Dru Hill.

    Canon In D Major Lyrics

    Canon In D Major
  • This is commonly used at weddings as part of bridal processions. Some purists believe it is inferior to "Here Comes The Bride," which is the traditional choice, but the song has grown more popular and accepted over the years.
  • The song begins with an 8-note bass line, with more instruments joining in every four bars as the bass repeats (a "canon" is music that repeats). This makes the song great for weddings, since it can be timed to the length of the procession. Usually, the cello player will keep an eye on the procession and signal to stop playing when the bride reaches the altar.
  • Pachelbel is a German composer born in 1653. He wrote a lot of chuch music.
  • It is believed that Pachelbel wrote this for 3 violins and a basso continuo. The German title is "Kanon Und Gigue In D-Dur."
  • This was featured in the 1980 movie Ordinary People.

  • This was Johnson's first big hit, a song he did with his good friend Ben Harper. Harper plays slide guitar and Jack plays rhythm guitar.
  • At the end of this song, Johnson makes a reference to The Beatles "Don't Pass Me By" when he repeats, "Please please please don't pass me by."

You're The One That I Want Lyrics

You're The One That I Want
  • This plays at the finale of the movie Grease as John Travolta (Danny) and Olivia Newton-John (Sandy) overcome the social constraints of high school and declare their lust for each other. Like the title track, it was not in the original stage musical of Grease, but was written specifically for the movie. Also like the title track, it was a #1 hit in America, reaching the top spot on June 10, 1978. This is very impressive considering the movie was not released until June 16, making the song a hit on its own merits and providing tremendous anticipation for the film. The title track rode the movie's momentum to #1 on August 26, and stayed there for two weeks.
  • John Farrar wrote and produced this song. His choice gave Olivia Newton-John, who was very nervous about appearing in the film, a familiar collaborator who helped ease her fears. Farrar had written and produced many of her previous hits, including the US #1 "Have You Never Been Mellow."
  • This song was a massive hit in Britain, spending nine weeks at #1 and becoming the fifth biggest-selling single of all time in the UK, with about 2 million copies sold (according to a 2012 list compiled by the Official Charts company). "Summer Nights," another Travolta/Newton-John duet from the movie, was also very successful in the UK, staying at #1 for seven weeks.
  • Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta were an interesting pairing for the film. Newton-John was a global singing star, but had little acting experience and was nervous about playing a high school girl at age 29. Travolta was a rising film star whose starring role in the 1977 movie Saturday Night Fever made him a sensation. He had done some singing, most successfully with his 1976 single "Let Her In," which went to #10 in the US.
  • A slow, string-laden version of this song was released by the singer violinist Lo-Fang (Matthew Hemerlein) on his 2014 debut album Blue Film. His rendition was used in a popular commercial for Chanel No. 5. The spot was directed by Baz Luhrmann and stars Gisele Bundchen.

    My Favorite Things Lyrics

    Raindrops on roses
    And whiskers on kittens
    Bright copper kettles
    And warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of My Favorite Things

    Cream colored ponies
    And crisp apple strudels
    Door bells and sleigh bells
    And schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things

Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things

    When the dog bites
    When the bee stings
    When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorites things
And then I don't feel so bad

    Raindrops on roses
    And whiskers on kittens
    Bright copper kettles
    And warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things

    Cream colored ponies
    And crisp apple strudels
    Door bells and sleigh bells
    And schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things

Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things

    When the dog bites

    When I'm feeling sad

And then I don't feel so bad

    My Favorite Things
  • The Sound of Music was one of famous Broadway musical writing team Rodgers and Hammerstein's most loved works, and also their last collaboration. Other notable works by them include Oklahoma! and The King and I. In The Sound of Music, Richard Rodgers wrote the music and Oscar Hammerstein II wrote the lyrics to the song "My Favorite Things."

Although first appearing on the stage in a 1959 production, most people know the film version which was released in 1965 and won five Oscars. The film featured musical actress Julie Andrews of Mary Poppins fame in her role as the musical's leading protagonist, Maria, who is the governess of a rich Captain von Trapp's children.

In "My Favorite Things," Maria describes all the things that make her feel better when she is sad, like "Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, bright copper kettles and warm woollen mittens." However, it is not an essentially happy song and is written in a minor key, and only at the end of the song, when she sings "I think of a few of my favorite things, and then I don't feel so bad" does the underlying harmony reflect this release of negative emotion through a happy major harmonic turn.

This song famously appears in a scene in the film when the von Trapp children she looks after are frightened and go to her room during a thunderstorm, and she sings it to comfort them. This change to the original Broadway positioning of the song has remained in most stage productions.
  • Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass recorded a popular cover of this song, as did Björk, who sang it in her movie Dancer In The Dark. Many Jazz musicians have also recorded the song, including Dave Brubeck, John Coltrane and Stanley Jordan. Coltrane's version was the basis for some of the organ and guitar parts on the the album version of The Doors' "Light My Fire."
  • On the television program 100 Greatest Songs From Musicals, Julie Andrews said of this song, "I think, personally 'My Favorite Things' was the song I love to sing the most. The lyrics were so great and it was so evocative everything one sang one could see the picture brown paper packages, raindrops on roses and things like that."
  • For Julie Andrews' 69th birthday celebration, she performed "My Favorite Things" at the Manhattan's Radio City Music Hall benefit for the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), but significantly changed the lyrics. Among the revised lyrics: "Cadillacs and cataracts and hearing aids and glasses, Polident and Fixodent and false teeth in glasses. Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings. These are a few of my favorite things."
  • Another notable version of this song was performed by singer and conductor Bobby McFerrin, known for his 1988 song "Don't Worry Be Happy." McFerrin performed this song in Copenhagen in a surprising variety of musical styles, wowing listeners with his amazing range of vocal techniques and his sensitive multi-voiced improvisations. The video of this performance went viral on YouTube.
  • This song name is also the title of jazz saxophonist John Coltrane's seventh album, My Favorite Things, released in 1961. The album features no jazz standards but five reworked popular tunes by the likes of Gershwin and Porter, including a thirteen minute instrumental version of "My Favorite Things." Coltrane said that "you've got to go back at the old things and see them in a new light." Through Coltrane's bebop rendition, this song was divorced from its popular roots and transformed into what has been described as a "hypnotic, Eastern dervish dance." This comment is in reference to Coltrane's interest with Indian music inspired by his friend, Ravi Shankar, who introduced him to the Indian raga scale that Coltrane used in his solo for this song.
  • Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) botched the lyrics of this song on an episode of Friends (season one - "The One When Monica Gets a New Roommate"):

    Raindrops on roses
    and rabbits and kittens
    Bluebells and sleighbells
    and something with mittens
la la la la la la something with string....

Ratchet on deck and they know I’m gon’ stunt
I’m tryna get head while smoking a blunt
Take her to my hotel, beat the pussy up
I don’t know her name, but I wanna fuck
Along came Molly, then came Doobie
Then codeine in a styrofoam cup
See me in the club, bands pop, they poppin'
Do it real good, might take you shoppin'

  • This ode to strippers features a verse from Wale, whilst Trey Songz tells the girl on the hook to "bounce it" because he's about to throw her a couple of thousand.
  • The song was co-produced by Dr. Luke, who is also an executive producer on Stay Trippy. The hitmaker is best known for his work with such pop acts as Katy Perry, Rihanna and Britney Spears and also heads up Kemosabe Records. "I'm super lucky to be able to work with a talent like Juicy J," Dr. Luke said. "From Three 6 Mafia to winning an Oscar and coming back with one of the biggest songs of the year with 'Bandz A Make Her Dance,' Juicy has proven that's he's the real deal."
  • The video finds Juicy with beautiful women and piles of cash, and boasts a guest appearance from Wiz Khalifa as well as cameos from Trey Songz and Wale.

  • This is one of Hendrix' most autobiographical and personal songs. He hated talking about his past, and avoided it during press conferences and interviews.
  • Hendrix played all of the lead guitar parts backwards, then rewound the recording of the lead guitar parts to the song to get that effect you hear in the beginning and in the middle of the song.
  • Hendrix' mother was a Cherokee Indian, and in this song he identifies with his heritage as a Native American.
  • Hendrix read the words for this song as a poem instead of singing them.
  • The Red Hot Chili Peppers were all big fans of Jimi Hendrix and often perform this song live.

    Travelling Without Moving
  • Written by lead singer Jay Kay, this song starts with him accelerating up until fifth gear in a 1994 Lamborghini Diablo SE30.
  • Jay Kay was branded a hypocrite by some critics for using the Ferrari-inspired logo that adorned the Travelling Without Moving album cover (with the group's Buffalo Man mascot standing in for the familiar black horse), undermining the environmentally conscious Emergency on Planet Earth album.

But the frontman is unapologetic about his addiction to sports cars. "People say, 'Jay you've got fourteen cars, how unenviromentally friendly.' But you can't drive them all at once. Even if I'm driving one, there's thirteen that somebody else can't because they're mine," he reasoned in a 2001 Esquire interview. At the time, his collection included numerous Ferraris, an Aston Martin DB5, two Mercedes 4×4s, a 1960s Mercedes convertible and an Audi RS4.
  • If your spell-checker flagged the song and album title, you're probably American; most English-speaking countries spell "Traveling" with two Ls ("Travelling").

    The Beginning... Lyrics

Last night was the last night
    You'll ever spend alone
    Couldn't wait
Did it in the living room
Soon as I saw you, baby, I had plans
Plans to do it 'til we have a baby
Even if the world is crazy
Pick some names, boy or girl
Then we'll change, change the world

So after you change your clothes
Girl, if you change your mind
    I'm ready, whatever time

    It's the beginning of forever
    You don't have to go
    Sometimes you just know
    It's the beginning of forever
    It don't have to end
Keep doing it, and doing it again, oh
Keep doing it, and doing it again, oh

Last time was the last time
    I was worn and done
You the best, that's why I want another one
Soon as I saw you, baby, I had plans
Planned to take you to my elevator
And cook a little breakfast later
Pick a place and go there, girl
Then we'll change, change the world

So after you change your clothes
Girl, if you change your mind
    I'm ready, whatever time

    It's the beginning of forever
    You don't have to go
    Sometimes you just know
    It's the beginning of forever
    It don't have to end

    The Beginning...
  • This promo single is from John Legend's Love in the Future album. The track was produced by long-term collaborator Dave Tozer and Hit-Boy, whose credits collectively include Jay-Z, Rihanna and Mary J Blige. It was written by Roc Nation singer-songwriter James Fauntleroy, who has penned songs for and with the likes of Drake, Big Sean and Justin Timberlake.
  • Tozer told SonicScoop about the production of spacy, minimal track: "It's very minimal with some haunting sounds," he said. "I'm using the sounds of the Mellotron a lot, giving the track depth and heavy mood."
  • The track samples "Winter Song" by Sarah Bareilles and Ingrid Michelson. Hit Boy brought in the basic sample and basic drum pattern for the song.
  • Like many of the other Love in The Future tracks, this song concerns Legend's relationship with his partner, the model Chrissy Teigen. The lyrics were inspired by his expectancy of a happy future with his new girl after their first night spent together.
  • When Legend showcased Love In The Future in front of an intimate crowd in New York City, he revealed that Chrissy was left blushing after playing this song to her parents. "She got a little embarrassed. The second line is 'We couldn't wait, we did it in the living room,'" he laughed.

    Black Cat Bone Lyrics

I believes my old lady she done, drive my black bone
You know I made my old lady she done, drive my Black Cat Bone
I got a funny feeling right here, something's going all wrong

She don't shoot in the morning, she walk the streets till late at night
She don't shoot in the morning, she walk the streets till late at night
Well she come home in the evening, doggone baby fight

Gonna call up the operator, right around the town
Get up this crazy world that's going on, I believe my baby she done, drive my black cat bone
Got a funny feeling right here, something's going wrong

My mama treats me like a, well fed dog at bay
You know my baby, like a well fed dog at bay
Yeah, I might be tired of living and I'll put

I'm gonna take it up iron Memphis, to get my hands on the bone
Gonna lay around here living till I, get on the phone
Gonna make it to Memphis man, to get my hands on the bone
I'm gonna lay around here in Mississippi, 'cause or else it's gonna spoil

I believes my old lady she done, drive my black bone
You know I made my old lady she done, drive my black cat bone
I got a funny feeling right here, something's going all wrong

    Black Cat Bone
  • The "Black Cat Bone" is a blues totem. Black cats are considered a sign of bad luck in some cultures, but in the Hoodoo world adhered to by many African-American residents of the American South at the time, the bone of a black cat had special powers, typically allowing its holder to attain a special woman who resists his tangible charms. In this song, Winter is looking for the bone to solve his lady problems.
  • A Texas blues musician named Hop Wilson wrote a song called "My Woman Has A Black Cat Bone" sometime in the '50s; this tune has been covered by Albert Collins, Robert Cray and many other artists. Lightnin' Hopkins also had a song called "Black Cat Bone," and many famous bluesmen have incorporated the phrase into their lyrics: Muddy Waters did it in "Hoochie Coochie Man" ("I got a black cat bone and I got a mojo"), and Blind Lemon Jefferson in "Broke and Hungry" ("I believe my good gal have found my black cat bone"), and Bo Diddley in his eponymous song ("Mojo come to my house, ya black cat bone").

    Electric Lady Lyrics

    Electric Lady
  • This is the title track of the second studio album by the American recording artist Janelle Monáe. The record continues the utopian cyborg concepts of its predecessors and serves as the fourth and fifth installment of her seven-part Metropolis concept series.
  • The song (and album title) is a reference to an imaginary woman Monáe started painting when listening to her track "Mushrooms and Roses" whilst on tour. Each night she'd paint the same female silhouette until she'd produced over 100. Monáe brought up was the woman, during a visit to a shrink and the professional advised her to name her, and the Electric Lady was born.
  • Asked who the Electric Lady is, Monáe replied: "Someone who cares for the community, who has her own perspective on making love and what love is."
  • This song features Solange Knowles, who is the sister of Beyoncé. She is best known for her 2008 single, "I Decided," which was a Top 40 hit in several European countries.
  • The Electric Lady album cover is a drawing by New York artist Sam Spratt of Monáe plus her alter ego Cindi Merriweather alongside her four sisters. Spratt said in NME: "I took her and my own influences and made these disparate elements cohesive without being some sort of Frankenstein's monster."
  • The song's music video pays tribute to some of the Electric Ladies that came before. The clip starts off at at Monáe's home, where she says goodbye to her mom (yep, that's Janelle's real mother saying the opening monologue). She then heads off to a house party for the Electro Phi Betas alumnae, where we see TLC's T-Boz, Monica, Estelle, Esperanza Spalding and Kimbra singing along as framed photos on a wall of the college honorees.

Janelle's dance partner is rapper T.I. They supply some impressive moves choreographed by Fatima Robinson.

    Save the Night Lyrics

A little trouble in the city
    Trouble in my home
She told me love don't live here anymore
I wanna run to the light
It's too dark in this part of night
I need somebody who can make it right

    And it's on tonight
How about we go and Save the Night
I can see you want it and so do I
How about we go and save the night
    Let's save the night

I'm not a one man band
I want to sing a duet
You and me would sound much better
You look so good in my bed
And if your gonna go out
Your gonna go on with a bang
Let's save the night I'll be your superman

    And it's on tonight
How about we go and save the night
I can see you want it and so do I
How about we go and save the night
    Let's save the night

I see the night flashing before her eyes
Resuscitating bring it back to life

    And it's on tonight
How about we go and save the night
I can see you want it and so do I
How about we go and save the night
    Let's save the night

    Oh, let's save the night

    Save the Night
  • The Runners original demo for the song's chorus was in a completely different key. Co-producer Dave Tozer told SonicScoop how he went about altering it: "The first thing I did," he explained, "was change the key to put it in a better spot for John's range, then John and I rewrote the song, starting with the chorus melody, then we wrote the rest of the parts around it. We gave the verses more of a bluesy vibe and we added some 808s, a ton of claps, and really made those drums hit."

  • This endearing track finds Johnson recalling the days of his high school Punk band, who did covers of Minor Threat, Fugazi, and Bad Religion tunes. He told WXRT's Marty Lennartz: "It's all about our first band, Limber Chicken. It's the story of that band, how we got our instruments, practicing and stuff."

"It's funny, because we recorded it on a nylon string acoustic (guitar)," Johnson continued, "and an upright bass and a little hand drum. It's the most un-punk thing you've ever heard. It's pretty funny. As an 18-year-old, I would've just hated me for doing it. The lamest 38-year-old thing to do."

  • Juicy explained the song's meaning to Artist Direct: "It's telling you what it is," he said. "It's talking about chicks and how you manage your money. I'm giving some knowledge. If you listen to it, there's some knowledge in there."
  • The Recollect produced song features something Juicy J has never incorporated before - a Hip-Hop beat. Said the former Three Six Mafia rapper to Artist Direct : "From back in the day until now, I never really made a song with a hip-hop beat over it. I definitely wanted to do that. It's one of my favorite songs on the album because I haven't done it. People get to hear me rap over something different. I never did it so I was like, 'Yo, I like hip-hop.' I wish I could've done more on the album. I put one song on there."
  • The song samples the Toots and the Maytals song "Just Like That," which was the title track of the Jamaican Reggae group's 1980 album.

    It's too late
    All the lights are out
    All the kids have played
Now I've lost my way, but anyway

    Heartache and pain baby
I know my name right now
    And you're calling me
And I need the ground as my final place
Oh, how you love me anyway

It's a Long Road Out Of Here
    Don't leave the light on
    I ain't coming home
    You gotta be strong

It's a long road out of here
When you love me like you do
Makes it hard for me to leave you

    Distance, my friends
It's closer when you reach the end
    Between time and space
    Oh, I can't erase, anyway

It's a long road out of here
    Don't leave the light on
    I ain't coming home
    You gotta be strong

It's a long road out of here
When you love me like you do
Makes it hard for me to leave you

And you carry all the weight of the world in your hands
And you're given all my love you never thought you had

And all I know to believe it is closing me eyes and all my dreams
But I guess I just want to go on and on
I guess I just want to go on and on
I guess I just want to go on and on
And I guess I just want to go on and on

I guess I just want to go on and on
