This song was written by Missy Elliott and she makes an appearance in the Cameron Casey-directed video. With a combination of sculpted styrofoam and fog machines, the icy clip was modeled after Sweden's famous Icehotel. Dirty Little Secret

This song is about all those little secrets you keep inside. The dirty little secret for The All-American Rejects songwriters Tyson Ritter and Nick Wheeler at this time was that they were both in happy, long-term relationships with their girlfriends. This meant that Ritter (the lyricist), had to concoct some histrionics. In our 2012 interview with Nick Wheeler, he said, "We come from a small town, and until now we've both had steady relationships. So, you know, sometimes there's not enough drama or turmoil to write about, so he simply writes stories. And that's where the lyrics come from." (Here's the full interview with Nick Wheeler .)

The video featured postcards sent to the website Postsecret.com. The site encourages people to mail in clever, anonymous postcards containing a secret. The best of the bunch are posted on the site, with some captivating results. The All-American Rejects made a charitable donation in exchange for use of the postcards.

Nick Wheeler told as that some of The All-American Rejects' hits are songs they have been "scared of" during the writing process, since the tracks sound like they could be disastrous. The band is big on experimentation, and when they come across a sound that is not typical, they're not always sure if it's a terrible idea or a huge hit. Said Wheeler: "'Dirty Little Secret' was just an acoustic guitar and a vocal, that's all it was. We put off getting the full band in and coming up with the arrangement until the very last second. We were literally less than a week away from going into the studio, and we all four started jamming and tossing out ideas. We had the arrangement down within an hour and that was that. We ended up recording it and couldn't get the motherf--king thing out of our heads. So it turned out to be a good thing."

This song was featured in a the movies John Tucker Must Die, She's The Man and Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo. The plot lines of all these movies revolve around a secret of some kind.

While performing this on an MTV awards show, the line "Feelin' good from the pills we took" was bleeped. As an subtle "screw you" to the show, they replaced "It's too late to turn back" with "It's too late to take pills" for the rest of the song. This incident is further evidence of why they never were as famous as they could have been.

The title track of The Vaccines' Melody Calling EP was penned by frontman Justin Young during Christmas 2012. He told NME: "I'd built loads of vocal stuff around the main chorus vocal, and then ended up muting the main part so all that's left is the harmonies – that's why they're all falsetto. Unlike all of the Supremes' other songs, this was recorded in Los Angeles instead of Hitsville USA in Detroit. Holland-Dozier-Holland wanted the sound for this song to be different than the Supremes' other hits. After the song was recorded, they were dissatisfied with the way the bass and drums and percussion sounded, so these parts were re-recorded at Hitsville by the Funk Brothers (a studio band who worked for Motown).

Edward Holland, Jr. wrote the lyrics to this song. Of all the Supremes' hits, this song is his favorite.

The repeated Reggae-sounding line is often misheard. You may find some lyrics on the internet that say the Jamaican singer sings, "I'm gone sent into outer space" or "I've gone sending to outer space." Gary Lightbody explained to MTV News: "The first album was written about invented characters and this album continues their story. Each song picks them up at different points in their life, so in terms of narrative storytelling it's sort of like Tarantino."

"It's an American story," he added: "A boy and a girl, that met in the first song of the first album, who have been through hell and back."

Where You Stand

This life-affirming song is the first single and title track from the Scottish Indie band Travis' seventh studio album. It was released on April 30, 2013. The single was accompanied by the shorter radio mix, which also uses more of an orchestration on the chorus.

The song was written by Travis bassist Dougie Payne and London singer-songwriter Holly Partridge. The latter wrote, sung and played guitar for female rock band The Shebeats, who have supported Razorlight, Pete Doherty, and the Maccabees amongst others. She has also sung backing vocals for Ben Folds.

Holly Partridge penned the lyrics. Vocalist Fran Healy told The Sun: "I think it is about remaining with something even when it isn't working. We often give up at the first sign of difficulty but if you have the will there is always the way."

The Where You Stand album was recorded at Ocean Sound Recordings, Giske, in northwest Norway and Hansa Tonstudio, Berlin. The cover photograph was taken out of the door of the Norwegian studio by Healy. He told The Sun: "The cows wandered into that shot and we didn't see them until looking later. We couldn't have placed them better."

Strife

This was released as the first single from Trivium's Vengeance Falls album. The song was performed live for the first time on August 1, 2013 at the Resurrection Fest at Viveiro in Spain.

Trivium bassist Paolo Gregoletto discussed the song in a track by track breakdown on his website : "'Strife' grew on me big time throughout the recording. It went from being a song I was unsure of to a definite first single (which was a close one between 'Vengeance Falls' and this one)."

He continued: "The intro is fu--ing massive and will give anyone that likes guitar tone a boner guaranteed. The verse vocals have Matt starting off in a lower register, gradually climbing into a more pissed off menacing voice with some screams layered in."

The song's music video was filmed in July 2013 at Studio One in Orlando, Florida and directed by Ramon Boutviseth, who has previously worked with Darkest Hour, Incubus and All That Remains.

Young Blood

This song is written by the legendary songwriting team of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, and was released as the B-Side of The Coasters' hit "Searchin'." The Coasters were a spin-off from an earlier group The Robins, with the members Carl Gardner and Bobby Nunn. To this duo, they added Billy Guy and Leon Hughes and became The Coasters. The group had one final re-arrangement a few years later to reach the classic line-up of Carl Gardner, Billy Guy, Cornell Gunter, and Will "Dub" Jones. Their manager was none other than Lester Sill, Leiber and Stoller's longtime mentor.

Jerry Leiber tells the story of how "Young Blood" was written, in the book Hound Dog: The Leiber & Stoller Autobiography . He was on his way to dinner with the family of Atlantic Records executive Jerry Wexler, when Jerry gave him a challenge. Wexler sprung the title "Young Blood" on Leiber while they were driving to Wexler's home, and asked him if he could write lyrics to go with it. Leiber asked "How far are we from your house?" and when Wexler told him it was fifteen minutes, Leiber responded "I'll have the lyrics finished before we get there." And he did!

The Beatles played this at their audition for Decca Records in 1962. Their version can be found on the album The Beatles Live At The BBC.

The Dreams Of Children

The title was inspired by English writer Clive Barker's horror story The Forbidden, where The Candyman kills to preserve his reputation, so he can haunt "The Dreams Of Children." The book was adapted into a movie in 1992.

This song has a psychadelic Beatles-like interesting backwards intro. Prior to writing the song Paul Weller had been listening to his favourite album, The Beatles Revolver. Weller recalls in the book 1000 UK #1 Hits by Jon Kutner and Spencer Leigh, "After we'd finished recording the album Setting Sons, I asked the engineer if he could record the album backwards and put it on cassette. When I listened to it there was one piece of vocal that I really liked and wrote "The Dreams Of Children" around it."

This was released as a double A-side single along with "Going Underground." So many people pre-ordered the single that it entered the UK charts at #1. The previous time this had occurred was Slade's "Merry Christmas Everybody" in 1974.

The "That-that-that-that girl" part is sampled from the 1988 song "Sally (That Girl)" by Gucci Crew II. The "I wonder if I take you home" part comes from the 1985 song "I Wonder If I Take You Home," which was the first hit for Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam.

Lyrically, this song mimics the theme of "I Wonder If I Take You Home," which finds a girl (in this case, Fergie), trying to decide if the guy she likes will respect her and stay with her if she sleeps with him.

The beginning sample of the music was copied from a song used in a 1978 Bollywood (the Indian version of Hollywood) movie called Don.

Some radio stations play an edited version: "Don't Mess With My Heart."

This won the 2005 Grammy for Best Rap Performance By A Duo Or Group; it was the Black Eyed Peas' second Grammy.
