Creep Song Chart

When asked about the song in 1993, lead singer Thom Yorke said, "I have a real problem being a man in the '90s… Any man with any sensitivity or conscience toward the opposite sex would have a problem. To actually assert yourself in a masculine way without looking like you're in a hard-rock band is a very difficult thing to do… It comes back to the music we write, which is not effeminate, but it's not brutal in its arrogance. It is one of the things I'm always trying: To assert a sexual persona and on the other hand trying desperately to negate it."

On the other hand, guitarist/keyboardist Jonny Greenwood said the song was in fact a happy song about "recognizing what you are." (thanks, Bertrand - Paris, France)

Yorke says this is about being in love with someone, but not feeling good enough. He describes the feeling as, "There's the beautiful people and then there's the rest of us."

Yorke wrote this in 1987 while he was a student at Exeter University in England. He first recorded it acoustic.

This was written before the band formed. Yorke gave his demo version to Colin Greenwood, who joined him and helped put the band together.

This wasn't released in the US until Radiohead's debut album in 1993. The band finished college and signed their record deal in 1991.

Yorke based this on a song called "The Air That I Breathe," which was written by Albert Hammond and Mike Hazlewood in 1972. After "Creep" was released, Radiohead agreed to share the songwriting royalties, so this is credited to Yorke, Hammond and Hazlewood.

This did well in the US, but not in their native England. When they released their third album, O.K. Computer, Radiohead was huge in England but not in the US.

On the album version, Thom Yorke sings, "You're so f--king special." For radio, he recut it as, "You're so very special." Yorke regrets changing the line for the radio version, saying it disturbed the "sentiment of the song." According to him, the song lost its anger as a result.

According to Q magazine April 2008, the recording of this song came about as a result of producers Sean Slade and Paul Q Kolderie struggling with "Inside My Head" and "Lurgee." They remembered a track that that the band had played in rehearsal, introduced by Yorke as "our Scott Walker song." This portrait of an outsider was then recorded in one take.

The video, directed by Brett Turnbull, was recorded at a club in Oxford called The Zodiac.

One of the extras in the crowd scenes is a teenage Kieran Hebden, aka Four Tet. The producer and DJ has remixed Thom Yorke and Radiohead tracks and also supported Radiohead on tour.

This is nicknamed "Crap" by the band due its slacker-anthem ubiquity.

When this was first released in England in 1992, the song flopped. It did well when it was re-released a year later, after Radiohead grew a fan base.

The three blasts of guitar noise that precede the chorus was the result of Jonny Greenwood trying to sabotage a tune he considered too "wimpy."

Yorke claims he received fan mail from "murderers" saying how much they could relate to this song.

Prince performed this at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in 2008. He also played Sarah McLachlan's "Angel" and The Beatles' "Come Together." (thanks, Bertrand - Paris, France)

The song returned to the UK singles chart in August 2010 after X-Factor auditionee Hollie Burns performed it on the show.

According to the book Radiohead: Hysterical and Useless, this song was inspired by Thom's obsession with a stranger. He was infatuated with a woman who was out of his league, who he'd never met but frequently saw in bars, and he found himself following her around. This headbanging, fast-paced track finds Sean venting a lot of angry feelings about a girl that messed with him. The song was released soon after the rapper called off his engagement to Glee star Naya Rivera, but he insisted to MTV News the song isn't about her.

"The funny thing about 'I Don't F--- With You' is I actually wrote that while I was in a relationship," he said. "I wrote that when I was with my ex. And then obviously when a few things went down, I went back and changed a couple of words. But mainly the song was already there."

Sean told Billboard magazine it's a song that he believes many people can relate to. "I feel like it's an anthem for everybody," he noted. "It's an anthem in every way shape and form, if you don't f--k with somebody from your past, right now, or the other way around, somebody doesn't f--k with you."

Production credits are shared by DJ Mustard, Kanye West, DJ Dahi and Key Wane. Mustard was asked by The Boombox if he minds the split credit. "Nah, not at all," he replied. "I'm all about making big records. So if it takes 20 people to make a hit record or if it takes 10… Sometimes it only takes one but whatever is gonna make the record sound better than it did, I'm down for it."

Mustard had created the entire beat before the others added to it. "The beat was pretty much done," he said. I guess Kanye came in with a beat at the end and he did his 'Kanye thing' to it, to make it bigger than what it was and we just really came out…"

"Well," he paused, "Dahi was on it, Key Wane added a sample to it and it came out as a really good record."

Bay Area rapper E-40 spits the second verse. He is a founding member of the rap group The Click, and the founder of Sick Wid It Records. E-40 was one of Big Sean's favorite rappers when he was growing up. The Detroit MC recalled to HighSnobiety : "My older brother used to play his music for me all the time back when I was a shorty… I was like seven years old, eight years old listening to E-40, Tupac, Snoop [Dogg] and [Notorious] B.I.G.… It was great man, you could only imagine how it took my appreciation for him even further – he sounded better than he's ever sounded."

The football-themed music video was directed by Lawrence Lamont and portrays Big Sean as a quarterback during a football game. The clip contains notable cameos by DJ Mustard as the running back, Kanye West as the coach, Teyana Taylor as the head cheerleader and E-40 as the suited-up commentator. Internet sensations Simone Shepherd and Khalil Underwood feature as well.

Sports fans slammed Big Sean for the video as it was filled with inaccuracies, such as wide receivers and quarterbacks wearing the wrong numbers on their jerseys and swigging Red Bulls on the sidelines instead of Gatorade or water.

This was Big Sean's third #1 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, following his 2011 song "Marvin & Chardonnay" and his Cruel Summer collaboration with Kanye West, Pusha T and 2 Chainz, "Mercy."

The song stayed at the summit for eight weeks, Sean's biggest hit on the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs tally. "It's the non tangible rap element that made it a hit," Def Jam executive No I.D. told Billboard magazine. "The fact that everyone feels like that about somebody. If you're not a rap fan, you can still understand and relate to it, out of the gate. It was a record I pushed and fought for and everyone else in the building felt the same way."

Justin Bieber actually had DJ Mustard's beat for this song first. The producer told MTV News how Big Sean ended up recording the tune. "We all just didn't communicate; nobody communicated with my team," he explained to MTV News. "[There's] not no hard feelings or anything like that. It's not a beef or no crazy s--t like that, but we didn't communicate. I was excited about the record."

"When I got in with Sean, Sean had already picked the record," Mustard added. "I'm like, 'Dang, Justin got this record.' And I always kept telling my management like, 'Yo, they got this record,' and everybody was like, 'Well, we reaching, and nobody else is reaching out to us. So what do you wanna do?'"

"And I was like, you know what, just give it to Sean, because me and Sean got a relationship," he concluded. "And I ended up doing four songs on Sean's album."

After denying the track was about his ex-girlfriend Naya Rivera, Sean finally admitted to Complex magazine that their breakup was at least, in part, the inspiration for the song. The majority of the cut, he explained, was written while the two were still together. However, the final verse, especially the line, "And every day I wake up celebrating s--t, why? Cause I just dodged a bullet from a crazy bitch," are celebrating his escape from the relationship.

This is about enjoying being depressed, similar to a Country song by Patty Loveless which features the lyric, "You Can Feel Bad If It Makes You Feel Better." When the members of Garbage met for the first time, they found that they shared a love for dark music.

In a 1995 interview with Addicted to Noise, Steve Marker, the band's guitarist, said, "It's really just us poking fun of ourselves... We're poking fun at the alternatrock angst, wearing your heart on your sleeve thing and at ourselves for writing such dark songs." This is a similar sentiment to the sarcasm behind The Smith's 1984 single "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now."

Sangria Song Chart

According to Shelton, this JT Harding, Josh Osborne and Trevor Rosen penned cut is "one of the sexiest songs" he's ever recorded. "It sounds like something that came from a different time," he said, "almost like something Chris Isaak would have had on one of his records at some point."

"It's just about one of those nights where you drink too much and you're gonna end up hookin' up with this person, it's just inevitable," he added. "It's not too over the top, but it's pure sex, that's the only way I know to describe that song."

Rosen told Entertainment Weekly: "So he had that title he was like, 'I was imagining this with a girl singing, but what if it was a guy saying, 'Your lips taste like sangria?' And we just sort of found that groove - we were going for Chris Isaak kind of sexy groove and I started playing that sort of Spanish-y kind of riff and it took off."

Isis Song Chart

This song is about a man who has recently split from his wife, Isis. He leaves town atop a pony headed "for the wild unknown country." Along his way, he meets with a shady character and the both of them begin a search for treasure. During the journey, the man keeps thinking back to his ex-wife:

The shady character dies midway into the voyage, leaving the man to continue the treasure hunt alone:

This was written while Dylan was separating from his then-wife, Sara, therefore many fans believe this song alludes to the couple's turbulent relationship. This argument is supported by the fact it features on the album, Desire, which closes with the poignant "Sara," during which Dylan openly sings about his "radiant jewel, mystical wife." This biographical approach to writing was a rare feat for Dylan, who usually preferred to write under personas (as in "Isis").

A live version of "Isis" features on the compilation album, Biograph. Dylan introduces it as "a song about marriage."

The female character in this song is named after Isis, the goddess in ancient Egyptian mythology who is idolized as the ideal wife and protective mother.

"Isis" was one of seven songs on Desire co-written between Dylan and songwriter/theater director, Jacques Levy.

In their early years, The White Stripes frequently covered this song.

The song's co-writer Jacques Levy was asked by the Dylan fanzine Isis about this song title and its significance in Egyptian mythology. Levy replied that it was an attempt at an old Western ballad like the kind The Band used to pen: "Well, this is a similar kind of thing," he said, "and just as The Band wrote 'pulled into Nazareth,' you know, well, 'Isis' has as much to do with Egypt as Fanny has to do with Nazareth."

This nostalgic song name-checks Shelton's country hero, Earl Thomas Conley. The songwriters (Jessi Alexander, Tommy James and Matt Jenkins) wrote it with the Nashville star in mind and referenced Conley to seal the deal. Shelton said: "Jessi Alexander is a great friend of mine, and she got in touch with me when she heard we were cutting tracks and said she wanted to write something for me."

"When I heard the lyric, it was almost as if she grew up in the same house I grew up in, from shifting the gears in my dad's truck to listening to Earl Thomas Conley on a station out of Tulsa," he added. "There has never been a more accurate song about me that I have recorded."

This is the story of a white guy from a middle class background who loses his virginity to a black girl from a troubled background in the junior high bathroom.

The white guy plays father to a son she has with another man, and also fathers two of her other children. He soon discovers that one of the children he thought was his, really wasn't, so he takes his son and leaves.

Kid Rock says this story is ninety-nine percent true. He is the white guy and the black chick is the mother of his only son.

The woman this song is about sued Rock for defamation and invasion of privacy. She claimed the story is not true and also brought suit against Rolling Stone magazine for printing it.

This sweary single finds Cheryl singing: "I don't care, and it feels so f--king good to say, I swear that I don't care." She told Capital FM: "It sums up pretty much how I feel right now. [It's] very pop, but fun pop!"

Cheryl co-wrote the song with Katy Perry's frequent songwriting partner Bonnie McKee, along with Joakim Ahlund, who collaborated with Chrissie Hynde on her 2014 debut solo album Stockholm and "Love Me Again" singer John Newman.

Cheryl said about the feisty lyrics: "I'm a woman now; I'm at that age that things don't bother me like they used to. I still care about things, but I've discovered what's important to care about, and what's most definitely not."

The music video, directed by Colin Tilley, finds Cheryl lounging on the beaches of Spain. Tilley formerly collaborated with the singer on the video for the album's lead single "Crazy Stupid Love," which was shot at The Underground Club in London.

Cheryl became the first British female solo artist to have five #1 singles in the UK when this entered the Official Charts at the summit. The singer overtook Geri Halliwell and Rita Ora who both had clocked up four chart-toppers.

Bonnie McKee was less than impressed how the track turned out. "That was my tenth #1, so I'm grateful for it but I didn't want to give it up," she told The Idolator . "It was a song I had written for myself. They tweaked a couple lyrics and changed the title."

"The original title was 'Waking Up Diagonal.' It's the first line of the song," McKee continued. "I just thought it was more interesting than 'I Don't Care,' which is such a boring title to me. When I hear that song it breaks my heart a little bit because it's my story."

Just Can't Get Enough Song Chart

Depeche Mode founding member and keyboardist Vince Clarke wrote this song. It was inspired by "To Cut a Long Story Short" by Spandau Ballet.

Early Depeche Mode, under the direction of Clarke, had a more upbeat sound. In our interview with Vince Clarke, he explained: "Martin Gore writes in a different way than I do, so that's obviously the main difference. And they've developed this kind of a rock feel to their music. I'm more a fan of pop music, or I'm more of a fan of writing pop music, that's the most difference, I guess."

Clarke had just turned 20 when he wrote this song, which turned out to be the last one he wrote for Depeche Mode. He left the band after the Speak and Spell album was released, later joining Yaz and Erasure. The "Just Can't Get Enough" video is the only one he appears in. (thanks, Bertrand - Paris, France)

In an interview with Q magazine February 2008, vocalist Dave Gahan recalled recording Depeche Mode's debut album Speak and Spell and their early days as a band: "Vince (Clarke) was the leader at that point. By the time we got into the studio, Vince had got bored with it. He didn't like the idea of having to deal with other personalities. He wanted to be in control. That's the only album where the songs had already been performed for a year and a half beforehand, and we went into the studio and recorded them as we would live. I think Daniel (Miller, their record label boss) saw us as a cross between the Ramones and the Beach Boys, in an electronic way - fast and short with really simple riffs. We were courted by major labels and were very suspicious of signing a deal that meant 5 albums. We'd come from that Punk ethic: we just wanted to make a single. Daniel came along and that's all he really had the money to do, so it kind of worked. We wanted to keep in control. We never thought much beyond the next single and playing some gigs. That time was brilliant."

Not everyone appreciated the Speak and Spell album. Rolling Stone magazine called it "PG-rated fluff."

This was used in popular ads for The Gap, which featured young people lip-synching to this in front of a white background. They were selling a line of leather.

Vince Clarke has been known to sing this with an acoustic guitar at Erasure concert dates. Clarke formed Erasure with Andy Bell a few years after leaving Depeche Mode. (thanks, Kelly - Portland, OR)

This became the first Depeche Mode song used in a movie when it was featured in the 1982 film Summer Lovers. It was also used in The Wedding Singer in 1998.

This was Depeche Mode's first top 10 single in the UK, and it became a club favorite in the US.

Colbie Caillat wrote this song about her struggles to overcome stage fright, a fear that plagues her even after years of professionally performing.

"Yeah, it's still a struggle," she told ABC News Radio. "Like, every time I do it, it gets a little easier and a little better and I watch back, I'm like, 'Oh, OK, it wasn't as bad as I thought in my mind.' But no, it's still there. I think it'll be there forever, and that's just something I'm learning to accept."

The topic of stage fright is something that Caillat previously visited on her 2007 Coco track "One Fine Wire." Also the title of her sophomore album Breakthrough, was inspired by the need to overcome her fears and learn to love touring.

Caillat generally uses fairly sparse instrumentation on her tunes, so this song is a big departure as it is filled with countless instruments and sounds. She told Billboard magazine: "We wanted it to sound really huge and loud and strong, then having the lyrics be more vulnerable. I wrote ['Live It Up'] about my stage fright and how I've struggled with that my entire life. To me, it was a really fun balance having a song that sounds so different but lyrics that are just honestly what I'm going through."
