No Woman No Cry Lyrics

No, woman, no cry,
No, woman, no cry,
No, woman, no cry,
No, woman, no cry.

Said, said, said, I remember when we used to sit
In the government yard in Trenchtown,
Oba - obaserving the 'ypocrites
As they would mingle with the good people we meet.
Good friends we have, oh, good friends we've lost
Along the way.
In this great future, you can't forget your past,
So dry your tears, I seh.

No, woman, no cry,
No, woman, no cry.
'Ere, little darlin', don't shed no tears,
No, woman, no cry.

Said, said, said, I remember when-a we used to sit
In the government yard in Trenchtown.
And then Georgie would make the fire lights,
As it was logwood burnin' through the nights.
Then we would cook cornmeal porridge,
Of which I'll share with you,
My feet is my only carriage,
So I've got to push on through.
But while I'm gone, I mean,

Everything's gonna be all right!
Everything's gonna be all right!
Everything's gonna be all right!
Everything's gonna be all right!
I said, everything's gonna be all right-a!
Everything's gonna be all right!
Everything's gonna be all right, now!
Everything's gonna be all right!

So, woman, no cry,
No, no, woman, woman, no cry.
Woman, little sister, don't shed no tears,
No, woman, no cry.

I remember when we used to sit
In the government yard in Trenchtown.
And then Georgie would make the fire lights,
As it was logwood burnin' through the nights.
Then we would cook cornmeal porridge,
Of which I'll share with you,
My feet is my only carriage,
So I've got to push on through.
But while I'm gone,

No, woman, no cry,
No, woman, no cry.
Woman, little darlin', say don't shed no tears,
No, woman, no cry.
Eh! (Little darlin', don't shed no tears!
No, woman, no cry.
Little sister, don't shed no tears!
No, woman, no cry.)

No Woman No Cry Song Chart
  • This became Marley's first hit when it was released as a single from his album, Live!, which was recorded at the Lyceum in London in 1975. It was a hot July night, and they gave a rousing performance. This tour was a breakthrough for Marley and The Wailers. Their previous tour went horribly, as audiences outside of Jamaica did not appreciate his pure Reggae. He polished and tightened his sound for this tour in order to compete with the slick arena acts that were popular at the time, and got a great response. Glowing reviews led to sold out shows in the US, and by the time the tour hit London, they were a huge success.
  • Marley developed a powerful stage presence on this tour, and added musicians like Family Man Barrett and Al Anderson to sweeten the sound. The audiences on the tour where the live version was recorded were evenly mixed between black and white people. Marley was one of the few artists to have mass appeal that transcended race. The song became a highlight of Marley's concerts as the crowd always joined in. It is very easy to sing along to.
  • The original line of the song is "No, Woman, Nuh cry." Nuh is Jamacian for "don't," so what is meant by the lyric is No, Woman, Don't cry... He's leaving and reassuring her that the slum they live in won't get her down, that everything will be alright and "don't shed no tear." (thanks, Thom - Plymouth, United Kingdom)
  • The original version on Natty Dread was nothing like the live performances. It was shorter and sped-up, with little of the energy Marley brought to it in concert.
  • According to Rolling Stone magazine, the "Government yard in Trench Town" refers to the Jamaican public-housing project where Marley lived in the late '50s.
  • Marley wrote this, but gave a composer credit to Vincent "Tartar" Ford, one of his friends from Jamaica who helped him out when he was very poor and ran a soup kitchen in Kingston. By giving Ford the credit, Marley was helping out an old friend by trying to divert royalty checks his way. This was common practice on Marley's later output, as he listed friends and band members as composers, since murky contracts would have made it very hard for him to collect his own royalties (it's unclear how much money ever made it to his proxies). Ford is also listed as the songwriter of "Rastman Vibration."
  • The female vocals were by backing group the I-Threes, made up of Judy Mowatt, Marcia Griffiths, and Bob's wife, Rita Marley. Griffiths went on to sing "Electric Boogie," which became a line dance favorite in America.
  • Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer left the group the year before this was released. They were upset at the way Marley was given top billing.
  • This was included on Legend, a compilation album released three years after Marley's death. It was a #1 album in the UK.
  • Dakota Moon's lead singer and guitarist, Ty Taylor, appeared on the reality TV series Rockstar INXS and did a cover of this song. (thanks, Annabelle - Eugene, OR)
  • The Brazilian Tropicalia singer Gilberto Gil recorded this for his 1979 album Realce, putting a Bossa Nova twist on it. Gil later became Brazil's Minister of Culture. (thanks, Bertrand - Paris, France)
  • Aston "Family Man" Barrett, bass player of the Wailers, told NME June 30, 2012: "The song is about the strength in the mama of course, strength in the ladies. And we love a woman with a backbone. Something like a wishbone! They have to be like a she lion! Woman strong, you know, not depending on the man. Of course the man is there to help you, then for every successful man, there is a good woman."
  • In his book Lyrics By Sting, the singer admitted he borrowed the chords to this song for The Police's debut album track "So Lonely."

    Drinking Class Lyrics

We're up when the rooster crows
Clock in when the whistle blows
    Eight hours ticking slow
And then tomorrow we'll do it all over again

I'm a member of a blue collar crowd
They can never, nah they can't keep us down
If you gotta, gotta label me, label me proud

I belong to the Drinking Class
Monday through Friday, man we bust our backs
If you're one of us, raise your glass
I belong to the drinking class

We laugh, we cry, we love
Go hard when the going's tough
Push back, come push and shove
Knock us down, we'll get back up again and again

I'm a member of a good timing crowd
We get rowdy, we get wild and loud
If you gotta, gotta label me, label me proud

I belong to the drinking class
Monday through Friday, man we bust our backs
If you're one of us, raise your glass
I belong to the drinking class

We all know why we're here
A little fun, a little music, a little whiskey, a little beer
We're gonna shake off those long week blues
Ladies, break out your dancing shoes
It don't matter what night it is, it's Friday
    It's Saturday and Sunday
I just want to hear you say
I just want to hear you sing it
    Y'all sing it with me

We belong to the drinking class
Monday through Friday, man we bust our backs
If you're one of us, raise your glass
We belong to the drinking class

Yeah, we belong to the drinking class
Monday through Friday, man we bust our backs
And if you're one of us, raise your glass
We belong to the drinking class

  • This song finds Brice paying tribute to the hard-working man who gets up early and works hard every day. "We had a bunch of production going on that wasn't right," he told Billboard magazine. "It was too new and hip, and had too much electronic stuff going on."

"It hit me one day that the song isn't about drinking, but it's about working class folks," Brice continued. "Working class, to me, seems like it needs to be organic - hands clapping, boots stomping, and it needs to sound like people humming along or whistling while they're working. And, literally, a sledge hammer hitting a railroad tie. So that's what we did. We went back in and took all that stuff out, and created those organic sounds to make it feel like the steel mills or the shipyards. When we got done, we felt we had gotten it right."
  • "Drinking Class" was penned by regular collaborators Josh Kear, David Frasier and Ed Hill. The working-class anthem came about when the trio were discussing current events and Kear threw out the title to his co-writers. "We know each other so well, any time we get together, we talk about life," Hill told Taste of Country .

"There's hardly any middle class anymore," he lamented. "You have super-rich people, the half-percent, that when they make a billion dollars they just can't seem to think that that's enough. They go and make another billion dollars, and then you have this big Grand Canyon, and you have everybody on the other side. And that's all of us, trying to scrap out a living."

"It's not really a drinking song," Hill added. "It's about people. It just happens to have drinking in the title."

  • This was written as a play on the Doors song "Hello I Love You." Instead of talking to a girl about sex, it's about the weather or politics.
  • R.E.M. played an early version on their Document tour before this was released. It didn't even have words then, but the band had a lot of trouble keeping themselves from laughing because they had so much fun with it.
  • The video was directed by lead singer Michael Stipe. It features him and three women all dancing topless as a way to satirize videos that objectify women. When MTV asked for a censored version, Stipe superimposed black bars over the chests of all four dancers. He said, "A nipple is a nipple."
  • This was REM's 89th recorded track, if you count mini-album "Chronic Town" and B-sides. (thanks, Michael - New York, NY)
  • Michael Stipe said in the October, 1992 issue of Q magazine: "It's a complete piss-take. I guess it's the prototype of, and hopefully the end of, a pop song. It would be the last pop song ever."

Stipe has described it as one of his "fruit loop songs" along with "Shiny Happy People" and "Stand."
  • Peter Buck remembers thinking this sounded like a Dream Syndicate song and calling up frontman Steve Wynn to make sure he didn't mind. Wynn gave the OK and agreed it did sound a bit like the group's Karl Precoda on guitar.
  • This was featured on the TV series Parks and Recreation in the 2014 episode "Prom."

    New York, New York Lyrics

Well, I shuffled through the city on the 4th of July
I had a firecracker waiting to blow
Breakin' like a rocket who was makin' its way
    To the cities of Mexico
Lived in an apartment out on Avenue A
    I had a tar-hut on the corner of 10th
Had myself a lover who was finer than gold
But I've been broken up and busted up since

And love don't play any games with me, anymore
    Like she did before
The world won't wait, so I better shake
That thing right out there through the door
Hell, I still love you, New York

Found myself a picture that would fit in the folds
Of my wallet and it stayed pretty good
Still amazed I didn't lose it on the roof of the place
When I was drunk and I was thinking of you
Every day the children they were singing their tunes
Out on the streets and you could hear from inside
Used to take the subway up to Houston and 3rd
I would wait for you and I'd try to hide

And love won't play any games with ypu, anymore
If you don't wanna 'em to
The world won't wait and I watched you shake
But honey, I don't blame you
Hell, I still love you, New York
Hell, I still love you, New York, New York

I remember Christmas in the blistering cold
In a church on the Upper West Side
Babe, I stood there singing, I was holding your arm
You were holding my trust like a child
Found a lot of trouble out on Avenue B
But I tried to keep the overhead low
Farewell to the city and the love of my life
At least we left before we had to go

And love won't play any games with you, anymore
If you don't want 'em to
So we better shake this old thing out the door
I'll always be thinkin' of you
I always love you, love New York

  • Adams was born and raised in North Carolina, where he was a member of the group Whiskeytown. He first moved to New York in 1999 to be closer to his girlfriend, who he wrote this about. In the song, she is "New York," hence the line, "I still love you, New York." (thanks, Andrew Nelson - Columbus, GA)
  • Adams and his girlfriend eventually broke up, and he ended up in Nashville. He played his first shows as a solo artist in New York.
  • The video features Adams lip-synching across the river from the World Trade Center. It was filmed on September 7, 2001. He dedicated the video to all those who lost their lives on September 11.
  • Speaking to Billboard magazine about the song in 2011, Adams said: "The song was about a lady. It's a poorly written song, I think, about my supposed time in New York in my early twenties. I always felt like it was going to be misappropriated anyway. I'm not from here, but it was like the 'silly, new New Yorker' thing to do. I just only recently started playing it again, which is pretty cool. But I play it the way I originally played it, which was on piano."
  • The video was inspired by a popular sitcom. Adams recalled to Billboard magazine: "The original video, we shot was in a taxi cab and it came out badly. I was a fanatic for the show Friends. Like, I've seen every episode in order. So I said, 'Can we just shoot it so it has all the angles from the Friends opening sequence, when they show the city?' If you actually look at Friends and the angles that sweep by in the opening sequence, it's pretty much exactly where I am in several of those parts of the video, in the performance part. So that was the original intention of the video, me poking fun at my Friends obsession."

  • This searing update of The Beatles' "Taxman" was written by Mansun frontman Paul Draper for the group's debut album, Attack of the Grey Lantern. The song was edited down from over seven minutes to four and a half minutes for its single release.
  • The video was filmed on April 17, 1997 by Roman Coppola, who is the son of Francis Ford Coppola and brother of Sofia . Secret cameras caught the avarice of real London commuters as £25,000 in £5 notes were thrown from the upper concourse of Liverpool Street Station onto the people below. The ensuing chaos as the crowd scrambled for the cash highlighted their greed.
  • The Attack of the Grey Lantern album was based around a concept of a superhero, the titular "Grey Lantern" and his encounters with the bizarre inhabitants of a fictional English town.

  • This nostalgic song revisits an idyllic childhood memory of the band when they would go skinny dipping in Athens, Georgia. R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck explained: "We used to sneak on this guy's property in Athens and go swimming in this water hole. It'd be great: 30 of us all running around naked. It was before AIDS, and whatever happened happened."
  • R.E.M. bassist Mike Mills wrote this song and played piano on the track. They recorded the song at Criteria Studios in Miami, which is where Derek And The Dominos recorded. The piano Mills played was the same one Bobby Whitlock and Jim Gordon used to play the famous ending on "Layla."
  • The lyrics were written before R.E.M. recorded their 1991 album, Out of Time. They couldn't find any good music for it until after the album was released.
  • In the video, directed by Jem A. Cohen, the song fades out for about a minute-and-a-half. All that can be heard are grasshoppers and other night noises. Then the music resumes.
  • The album title comes from a soul food diner in Athens, Georgia, where the waiters answer "automatic" after you order. Michael Stipe loves diners and once opened a vegetarian diner of his own.
  • This was the only R.E.M. song where the lyrics were written before the music, inspiring some healthy competition between Mike Mills and Peter Buck. Buck recalls in the liner notes for In Time: "Being competitive bastards that we are, Mike and I started auditioning chord changes and tunes for Michael. The two tunes of mine that Michael rejected eventually became 'Drive' and 'Try Not To Breathe.' Mike had a piano instrumental that he played to Michael. He listened once, nodded his head to hear it again, and on the second pass he sang the lyrics. It was 'Nightswimming,' exactly like the record we would record a year later. I was standing in the corner dumbfounded."
  • "There's a fairly autobiographical narrative to this one, and the part about the windshield really happened," Michael Stipe wrote in the liner notes for Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage, referring to the lyrics "The photograph on the dashboard taken years ago, turned around backwards so the windshield shows." He said: "That's exactly how I saw it, I'm pretty sure it was a pickup truck. I know Jem Cohen loves that line, and he made the most incredible film as a video for this song."
  • Mike Mills played this in concert with Robert McDuffle and the students at Mercer University's McDuffle Center for Strings. "I think one of my favorite parts is the orchestra tuning up in the beginning," he noted in Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage, 1982-2011.

The Observations Of A Crow Lyrics

    Newspaper boy makin' his rounds
Spreadin' the word all over town
Drivin' his car just as fast as it will go

There's papers in the driveway, papers in the yard
Paper broke a window, he didn't throw it that hard
But it shattered like a dream down in the valley below

Hey, quarter moon, well how was your night?
Yeah well, any minute now God's gonna hit them brights
So if you stick around, don't you say that you weren't told

Well, take it from me, you better grab your shades
If He looks at you, ooh, well try not to look so afraid
Just do the best that you can, but don't you think that He won't know

Creosote's drippin' from the high line poles
Fast as you can count 'em, 12 in a row
Blessed accommodations for the daily observations of a crow

Well, that cat down there, yeah, well he's Louie the flea
He's married to a waitress by the name of Lora Lee
When they scream and they holler, man they put on a show

He's a protected witness from a Detroit job
Turned his best friend in, his name is Bob
I know who got the time, but who do you think got the dough?

Take a look at that pilgrim passin' by
He's lookin' for love, I can see it in his eyes
He's runnin' 'round in circles, you can take it from me

His shadow begs for mercy that every lost and found
In city after city, town after town
Tortured by the memory of a love he thought was supposed to be

Creosote's drippin' from the high line poles
Fast as you can count 'em, 12 in a row
Blessed accommodations for the daily observations of a crow

Well, I'm a genuine scoopologist, the name is Crow
Sitting up here, watching the show
In this one horse drive-through, forsaken, dried up piece of the world

Well, it ain't much but it's my kingdom, it's my home
Even had a queen till that parakeet came along
Fast talking, loud squawking, green feathered scrak took my girl, later

  • The Pilgrim tells the story of a man from Marty Stuart's hometown of Philadelphia, Mississippi and this track is from the point of view of a crow observing the town's nightlife. Stuart told the story of the song to American Songwriter magazine: "I was riding through the West. I think we were pulling off of the interstate and we pulled off on Route 66 somewhere just to get fuel in the bus. It was like one of the places, it looked like a ghost town. There was just a few locals around."

"But I happened to look up. And there was a crow sitting on the electrical line. And I couldn't take my eyes off him. I've always been fascinated by crows, I've always loved crows. Bus as people would come and go, the few people that there were, that crow never left. He kept hanging out. And I thought, 'The Observations Of A Crow.' And it was that simple but it was an occurrence that came to me on Route 66 somewhere."
  • There has been a number of discussions on message boards concerning the melodic similarities between this song, and Bob Dylan's "Things Have Changed," which was recorded shortly afterwards. Stuart told American Songwriter magazine there is a reason for the resemblance, due to one night when he hung out with Dylan.

"I took him to my warehouse to see all the country music treasures I have," Stuart said. "Bob said, 'Hey, I like that 'Crow' song. I might borrow something out of that.' I said, 'Well, I probably borrowed it from you in the first place. Go ahead."
  • Here are some crow fun facts from The Encyclopedia of Trivia :

Crows have different warning calls depending on the type of predator they are warning their fellow crows about.

Crows recognize human faces and can hold grudges.

"As the crow flies" is an idiom for the shortest route between two points. It is actually the rook that flies straight to its destination, rather than the crow, but the two black birds are often identified with each other.

When crows drop stones into water to make food more accessible, they display the reasoning skills of children aged 5-7.

  • The central lyric, "Hey kids, rock n' roll," was borrowed from "Rock On" by David Essex. The words may be the same, but the mood is completely different. This is a much more somber song.
Lead singer Michael Stipe explained in the November 12, 2009 issue of Rolling Stone: "There were, before Punk, a few songs that resonated with me. One was David Essex's "Rock On." "Drive" is a homage to that. It was the first song I wrote on computer. Before, I had a typewriter. The reason is my handwriting changes dramatically day to day. I don't trust it. I will write one of the best lyrics ever and discard it because the handwriting looks like s--t. Or the handwriting looks good but it's a crap lyric, lo and behold, it's in the song. Too late."
  • Guitarist Peter Buck used a nickel as a guitar pick for the mid-song guitar solo to get a sharper sound. He overdubbed the track six times.
  • There is a line in the song that goes, "Smack, crack, bushwhacked." This can be seen as an indictment of then-U.S. President George Bush (the first one). Lead singer Michael Stipe had taken out ads in college newspapers in 1988 saying, "Don't Get Bushwhacked. Get out and vote. Vote Dukakis." They weren't very effective.
  • This was released two months before the national election between Bush and Bill Clinton. Clinton won that one, but eight years later Bush's son became president. When the younger Bush ran for re-election in 2004, R.E.M. performed concerts to benefit his opponent, John Kerry.
  • This song has no chorus. That doesn't happen very often in hit songs.
  • This was the first single released off the album. It was issued a few days before the album came out.
  • At live shows, R.E.M. played a funk-rock version of this song because its ambient atmosphere was difficult to duplicate. This version appears on a 1993 benefit album for Greenpeace called Alternative NRG.
  • The album title comes from a sign at a diner in Athens, Georgia, where the band formed. It read, "Delicious Fine Foods - Automatic For The People."
  • Director Peter Care shot the black-and-white music video at Sepulveda Dam in the Sherman Oaks area of Los Angeles. The clip mostly has Stipe crowdsurfing as he performs the song.

    Creation Lyrics

I can see just who you are
You are you are the missing part
The only living boy left in the world

What’s the city done to you?
    You’re walking down Fifth Avenue
You’re looking for salvation in a girl.

If you get what you receive,
It comes down to what you believe
Do you believe you’re someone she can love?

Life is like a loaded gun,
Point it at the lonely ones
Will the final bullet be enough?

    You’re the Creation
    You’re the reason
You’re the rising sun and the colors in my mind

You’re the changing of the seasons
You’re the growing old and the passing of the time

    You live
    You learn
    You laugh
    You cry
And you can never get enough

    You drink
    You dance
    You fight
    You die
And maybe you believe in love

    (Maybe you believe in love)

I know who you want to be
You want to be good company
But everything you say gets turned around

So you decide to be alone
    You disconnect your telephone
And run off to some place you can’t be found

    Everybody needs a friend
Who will love you in the end
Can you be somebody they can trust?

Change your mind and change your life
    Find yourself a pretty wife
    And be a man
    Until you turn to dust

    You’re the creation,
    You’re the reason
You’re the rising sun and the colors in my mind

You’re the changing of the seasons
You’re the growing old and the passing of the time

    You live
    You learn
    You laugh
    You cry
And you can never get enough

    You drink
    You dance
    You fight
    You die
And maybe you believe in love,

    (Maybe you believe in love)

    You’re the creation,
    You’re the reason
You’re the rising sun and the colors in my mind

You’re the changing of the seasons
You’re the growing old and the passing of the time

    You live
    You learn
    You laugh
    You cry
And you can never get enough

    You drink
    You dance
    You fight
    You die
And maybe you believe in love,

    (Maybe you believe in love)
    Maybe you believe in love,
    (Maybe you believe in love)

  • This is the title track of The Pierces' fifth album. Asked by The Sun why they called the album 'Creation,' Allison Pierce replied: "It's a beautiful positive word that has many different meanings."

"We thought it was an empowering title," she continued; "it could refer to the record, which is our new creation, or a recreation of this band through these songs. It just felt so right. As soon as the title was suggested to us."

  • This was inspired by the late comedian Andy Kaufman. When he was a teenager, R.E.M. lead singer Michael Stipe saw Kaufman on Saturday Night Live, and has cited him as a huge influence ever since. See a photo and learn more about Andy Kaufman in Song Images .
  • Things mentioned in this song: Mott the Hoople, Life, Monopoly, Twister, Risk, checkers, chess, twenty-one, wrestler Fred Blassie, Elvis Presley, Moses, Sir Isaac Newton, and Charles Darwin.
  • Kaufman was known for his Elvis-impersonations, which he once performed on Saturday Night Live. Stipe tries one of his own on the line, "Hey, baby are we losing touch?"
  • This was used as the title for a 1999 movie about Andy Kaufman, starring Jim Carrey. R.E.M. did the soundtrack, which included this.
  • Andy Kaufman was never married. He met his long time girlfriend Lynn at a restaurant while shooting a short independent film. The movie told a different story of how they met. (thanks, Jessy - Pittsfield, MA)
  • The lyric, "Mr. Fred Blassie and the breakfast mess" refers to Kaufman's movie My Breakfast With Blassie. This was the movie that Kaufman was filming when he met his girlfriend. (thanks, Patrick - Tallapoosa, GA)
  • On an edition of the British TV show Top Of The Pops 2, Michael Stipe claimed that when writing this song, it was a tribute to Kurt Cobain's lyrics and writing, and that the repeated "yeah yeah yeah yeah" at the end of most lines is actually his attempt at putting more "yeahs" in a song than Cobain did. Stipe claimed Cobain was the master at making them fit, and he wanted to out-do him. (thanks, Liam - London, England)
  • R.E.M. performed this with Eddie Vedder when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007.
  • After R.E.M. called it quits in 2011, Michael Stipe said that this would be the song he would most miss performing, particularly "watching the effect of that opening bass line on a sea of people at the end of a show," he told Rolling Stone. "That is an easy song to sing. It's hard to sing a bad note in it," he added.
  • In the liner notes for Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage 1982-2011, Peter Buck recalled how the music for this song came together: "'Man on the Moon' was something that Bill [Berry] had this one chord change that he came in with, which was C to D like the verse of the song, and he said, 'I don't know what to do with that.' I used to finish some of Bill's things ... he would come up with the riffs, but I would be the finish guy for that. I sat down and came up with the chorus, the bridges, and so forth. I remember we showed it to Mike and Michael when they came in later; definitely we had the song finished. I think Bill played bass and I played guitar; we kept going around with it. I think we might have played some mandolin on it in the rehearsal studio."
  • Peter Care directed the music video on location near the Antelope Valley area of California. Stipe, wearing a cowboy hat, hitches a ride with Bill Berry to a truck stop. Once there, they meet Care tending bar while Mike Mills plays pool, and the cast of customers joins in singing the song's chorus. The late Andy Kaufman even makes an appearance on the truck stop's television set as the video ends.

    Flesh and Bone Lyrics

New love is not best love
Pull me down and rough me up
I'll fall with my arms up
    With my eyes open
    I won't give it up

Don't speak now it breaks the spell
You're a good one baby, I can tell

All this time I was running blindly
I wanna see you on the other side
    So come and find me
    Rest your head
    You can lay beside me
You'll never have another lonely night
    As far as I see

    Flesh and Bone
    Perfect soul

Time flies and you grow cold
Where's the feeling burning red and gold
    Bring back the swirling head
The weightless body that you thought was dead

I'm not giving up on this
Lips reminding me of our first kiss

All this time I was running blindly
I wanna see you on the side
    So come and find me
    Rest your head
    You can lay beside me
You'll never have another lonely night
    As far as I see

    Flesh and bone
    Perfect soul

All this time I was running blindly
I wanna see you on the other side
    So come and find me
    Rest your head
    You can lay beside me
You'll never have another lonely night

  • This song reflects Catherine Pierce's contentment after getting engaged to the duo's bass player and musical director Christian "Leggy" Langdon. "It feels so peaceful to sing it," she told The Guardian. "It's about my fiancé. It's just about loving each other really purely."

"A lot of the songs (for Creation) I wrote were about things going well," she added. "Which was weird for me. Before it was always like: 'Why is this not going well?' But I really enjoyed writing happy songs."
