On the live CD and DVD Rush In Rio , Alex Lifeson delivers a comedy monologue during the "Monsters! (Reprise)" section. "Danforth and Pape" is an intersection in downtown Toronto. It is well known for being somewhat chaotic during 'rush hour.' (thanks, Alexander - Bracebridge, Canada)

The song that inspired the "Monsters!" section was the 1936 song "Powerhouse" by Raymond Scott. Warner Brothers music director Carl Stalling used "Powerhouse" in his Warner Brothers cartoon scores during the '40s and '50s. The music wasn't originally written for cartoons, publishing rights for a limited catalog of Raymond Scott's titles were sold to Warner Brothers in 1943. Yet not only was "Powerhouse" used in the old "Merrie Melodies" and "Looney Tunes" cartoons, it has been sampled more recently by other bands such as Devo and They Might Be Giants; more recently cartoons including The Simpsons, Ren & Stimpy, Duckman, Batfink and Animaniacs, also the Cartoon Network's theme song, and throughout the Disney film Honey, I Shrunk the Kids! (without crediting Scott - Disney was threatened with a lawsuit and the matter was settled out of court). Rush didn't give credit to Scott for their use of "Powerhouse" either. By the time Raymond Scott's publisher notified the band's management of the infringement, the statute of limitations had expired on the challenge. But Rush's management, out of deference to Mr. and Mrs. Scott (Raymond was still alive at that point), and being the class act that they are, offered a one-time "penance" payment, feeling it was the ethical thing to do. All involved were happy with the resolution, and Rush has no further financial obligations. This was initially released in 1981 on Patti Austin's album Every Home Should Have One. In May of 1982, it peaked at #73 on the US charts. Months later, the song found new life when it was used in the ABC soap opera General Hospital for romantic scenes involving Luke Spencer (played by Anthony Geary) after his wife Laura temporarily left the show. ABC got lots of calls and letters about the song, and Warner Brothers Records decided to re-release the song as a single due to popular demand. It hit #1 in the US in February 1983.

Later that year, "Think Of Laura" by Christopher Cross was used in scenes where Luke was missing Laura. Thanks to its use on the show, the song went to #9 US in 1984.

Quincy Jones produced this. Both Austin and Ingram had worked with Jones in the past and signed to his record label, Quest.

Rod Temperton wrote this. This is one of many songs he wrote that Quincy Jones produced. Others include Michael Jackson's "Rock With You," "Off The Wall" and "Thriller," as well as songs by The Brothers Johnson and Rufus with Chaka Khan.

Ingram has done a lot of duets, including "Just Once" with Quincy Jones, "Yah Mo B There" with Michael McDonald, and "Somewhere Out There" with Linda Ronstadt.

After 2 weeks at #1 in the US, this was replaced by Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean." That song was also produced by Jones.

Platoon

Jungle is a group comprising "J" and "T," who grew up as neighbors in West London. The duo expand to a seven-piece live.

Jungle's debut eponymous album was recorded between the duo's own home studio in Shepherds Bush, London and the XL Recordings studio in nearby Ladbroke Grove. "Every song on the record is a place and time," the pair told NME. "For 'Platoon' it's this dark Vietnam jungle covered in mist. The guitars feel like machine guns."

A very popular and family-friendly entertainer throughout the '60s, Ray Stevens was given his own TV variety show in 1970 called The Ray Stevens Show, which lasted just one season as a summer replacement. He wrote the uplifting "Everything Is Beautiful" as the theme for the show. Stevens explained to mybestyears.com , "I needed a very special song for the program. I went down in my basement for about three days. I had crumpled paper all over the place. And suddenly the idea for the song came to me. I wrote it in maybe 45 minutes. It was a very special song and one that a lot of people still remember and sing along when I do it in shows."

This is a rare hit for Stevens that was not a novelty recording. He was better known for comedy songs like "The Streak," "Ahab, The Arab," and "Harry The Hairy Ape."

This was the first Jackson 5 hit not written by "The Corporation," a collection of Motown writers lead by the chief of the label, Berry Gordy. The Corporation were based in California, unlike most Motown writers, who were in the Detroit offices. This song was written by Hal Davis (who also produced it), Bob West, Willie Hutch, and Berry Gordy.

In this song, a man tells his former lover that he will always be there for her, and that even if she finds someone new, she can always go back to him.

Mariah Carey remade this in 1992. It was originally a last-minute addition to her MTV Unplugged setlist, after she had been informed that most acts on the show commonly perform at least one cover.

Carey's version was performed as a romantic duet, with her singing Michael Jackson's lines and an uncredited Trey Lorenz, who had provided background vocals on her Emotions album, performing Jermaine Jackson's part.

Carey's label received numerous requests to release "I'll Be There" as a single after the MTV Unplugged special was aired. They did so and it went on to top the Hot 100 and several other charts including the ones in Canada, The Netherlands and New Zealand. The song also peaked at #2 in the UK.

At one point Michael hollers, "Just look over your shoulders, honey." He had been instructed by Berry Gordy to sing "just look over your shoulder" (as an allusion to what Levi Stubbs had said in The Four Tops' "Reach Out I'll Be There"), but the fluffed line was allowed to remain in the final mix.

A "Suffragette" is a woman involved in the women's suffrage movement (trying to get the right to vote). A London newspaper was the first to use the term, and did so in a derogatory manner. In England, women got voting rights in 1918. In the US, it was 1920.

Bowie offered this to the band Mott The Hoople, but they turned it down. Bowie was a big fan of Mott The Hoople, but they weren't selling well and were about to break up. To keep them going, Bowie offered to produce their next album, and although they rejected this, they did record Bowie's "All The Young Dudes," which became a big hit and got them out of a financial mess.

The heavy saxophone backing sound is not a saxophone. It was created by an ARP synthesizer. Bowie wanted a larger-than-life sax sound, so they used the synth to create the sounds that a real sax couldn't.

The famous "Wham Bam Thank-you Ma'am" lyric was the title of one of the tracks on Charles Mingus' 1961 Oh Yeah album (according to Mingus it was also a phrase that his drummer, Max Roach, used when he was "unable to express his inner feelings") and most likely one which Bowie was aware of, being a jazz lover himself. The word "droogie" (from the line "Aw, droogie, don't crash here") is from the book (later made into a movie) A Clockwork Orange. It means "friend." Like most of the words in the book's teen-slang language, Nadsat, it's based on Russian. (thanks, Beth - San Francisco, CA)

This is one of Bowie's all time personal favorites.

When Bowie played this live in 1972, he started doing a bit at the end of the song where he went underneath his guitarist, Mick Ronson, and played the guitar with his mouth. This made it look like Bowie was simulating oral sex, and it caused a stir when Bowie talked his Manager into buying a whole page of advertising space in the British magazine Melody Maker to get the infamous "oral sex" picture published immediately after it was shot at a show in Oxford Town Hall in June 72. This is the title track of Suicide Silence's fourth album. You Can't Stop Me is the band's first record to feature vocalist Hernan "Eddie" Hermida, following the tragic loss of their original singer Mitch Lucker. "The long and short of it is this," said guitarist Mark Heylmun. "Mitch left behind a set of lyrics with the title 'You Can't Stop Me'. Mitch Lucker died November 1, 2012 after sustaining injuries in a motorcycle crash in Huntington Beach on Halloween night.

The song's music video was directed by Nathan "Karma" Cox, who has previously worked with Linkin Park, Black Veil Brides and Marilyn Manson. The clip concludes with a tribute message giving a shout out to Mitch Lucker.
