The industrial-style music video is a collaboration with H&M and was directed by Swedish design team Sandberg & Timonen. "Just the fact that I'm wearing a dress is quite scary," Robyn said of the clip. "I usually don't."

On the face of it this appears to be an exploration of one of Robyn's favorite themes: the duality between humans and robots ("Fembot," "The Girl and the Robot"). However the singer admitted to NME the song is really about, "as a woman, teaching a guy how to evolve in a relationship."

This is about a boy named Justin who was dying of intestinal cancer. His last wish was to meet the members of KoRn.

Sliver

This is a semi-autobiographical song about being deserted by your parents. The words were written by Kurt Cobain, and tell the story about a little boy left at his grandparents house and him screaming to go home. (thanks, Nick - Paramus, NJ)

Dan Peters from the group Mudhoney played drums on this. Like Nirvana, Mudhoney came out of the Seattle music scene, and for a while were doing much better. Nirvana went through a lot of drummers before finding Dave Grohl, and Peters played just one show with the band.

This inspired the Weezer track "Heart Songs." Weezer leeder Rivers Cuomo told Rolling Stone magazine about hearing this song for the first time: "I was working at Tower Records on Sunset Boulevard in the spring of '91, and another cashier, Harold, said, 'Hey, Rivers, I know something you might like. It's called Nirvana.' As soon as I heard 'Mom and Dad went to a show,' I immediately started dancing around. It was exactly how I felt, and they were putting it to music. Many of the songs on Sam Smith's In the Lonely Hour album, including this one, were inspired by his unrequited love for one person. He explained to Interview magazine. "My album focuses on unrequited love quite a lot because I don't think it's spoken about enough in music. I've been through it myself and I found it hard to find songs that were about that, so I've definitely tried to make that a part of my album."

Smith added: "When I was going through that, instead of searching for songs by other artists to relate to I could listen to my own music. I'd do a song in the studio and it would explain everything I'm going through so perfectly that when I went home and I felt down I could listen to that to make me feel better. It's a documentation of my life. I think it's just important to put it out there."

The Luke Monaghan-directed video follows a love triangle involving Smith and two close friends set in Paris. The female is played by model Daisy Lowe, who is the daughter of Gavin Rossdale, the lead singer of Bush. The clip marked the first time that Smith publicly addressed his sexuality.

Smith told 4Music : "Leave Your Lover is about someone I fell in love with last year. I tried to make this track sound pretty because the message of the song is pretty sad."

Smith felt closure after telling his unrequited love that the In the Lonely album was based on him. "I told him before the album came out and it gave me a lot of closure actually," the singer revealed to ITN News. "It made the whole; it just put a bookend at the end of the record. It was amazing. I'm so happy I did it."

Sam Smith wrote this song with Simon Aldred, who is the frontman of the rock band Cherry Ghost. Smith told Digital Spy the story of the song. "We were in his living room having a cup of tea and I was completely entranced by the chords," he said.

"I immediately came up with that lyric, 'Leave your lover, leave him for me'. I remember feeling so proud that I got the word 'him' in. We just put that down as a demo and it took about an hour to write - then we went and got a bagel together!"

"We get into the room together and talk about what we've been listening to and what we feel like working on," he said. "I'll just start by putting a beat together. Sharon Van Etten and Christian, a barman and DJ, decided to commit to each other at the beginning of the touring cycle for the singer's 2012 album Tramp. This followed seven years of drifting in and out of each other's lives. Van Etten told NME they "weren't ready to be together," but on this song, she sings about knowing that there would be, "trouble for a long time" from the moment they met.
