Black Rock Lyrics

On the Black Rock is where I spend my time
Writing a memory or writing a rhyme
Thinking about what is right or wrong
On the black rock is where I like to go
After a long night comin' home from the show
That's where I write my song all day long
The black rock
Sometimes, I just look around
Taking the feeling coming out from the ground
That's just something I do sometimes
And then I just come out the door
Taking the wind coming off of the shore
And that's just what I'm doing tonight
On the black rock is where I spend my time
Writing a memory or writing a rhyme
Thinking about what is right or wrong
On the black rock is where I like to go
After a long night comin' home from the show
That's where I write my song all day long
The black rock
When you are on your own
Not speaking out is like fighting alone
And that is the worst damn way to fight
And when you are scared no more
You reach your hand out and just open the door
And that's just what I'm doing tonight
On the black rock is where I spend my time
Writing a memory or writing a rhyme
Thinking about what is right or wrong
On the black rock is where I like to go
After a long night comin' home from the show
That's where I write my song all day long
The black rock

Black Rock
  • This song is about an actual place lead singer Marc Roberge and other band members went during High School in Montgomery County, Maryland. There were woods along a section of Black Rock Road in Germantown where they would go hang out. The song is about going to a place special to you when you need to get away.
  • A version of this was included on the first disk on their two-disk live album Any Time Now.
  • At many shows, Roberge alters the lyrics and sings "We all have our black rock, it's in our minds." (thanks, Ben - Takoma Park, MD, for all above)
  • O.A.R. stands for "Of A Revolution." Check out our interview with Marc Roberge.

    Oysters Lyrics

So can these shoes take me to
    Who I was before
I was stabbing my sticks into
    A vulnerable earth

And I can almost out run you
    And those stalking memories
    Did I somehow become you
    Without realizing

Found a little patch of heaven now
So then I'm gonna turn Oysters in the sand
'Cause I'm working my way back
I'm working my way back to me again
Not every girl is a pearl
    With these ruby slippers
    With these ruby slippers
So then I'm gonna turn oysters in the sand
In the sand, in the sand
    Turn
    Turn
    Turn

And there are forces of conflict
    Taking portions of my mind
In whose realm laced with trickery
    The fragments I must find
And I can almost out run you
    And those stalking memories
    Did I somehow become you
    Without realizing
Found a little patch of heaven now
So then I'm gonna turn oysters in the sand
'Cause I'm working my way back
I'm working my way back to me again
Not every girl is a pearl
    With these ruby slippers
    With these ruby slippers
So then I'm gonna turn oysters in the sand
    in the sand, Turn
    Turn, turn, turn

    Not every girl is popular
    Popular
    Popular
Not every girl is a pearl
    With these ruby slippers
    With these ruby slippers
So then I 'm gonna turn oysters in the sand

  • This piano ballad finds Amos making peace with haunting memories and self-doubt. "There are references to surviving, and how things from your past stay with you," she said. "Experiences stay with you. And you have to find a way to create with them. Or the voices in your head can intimidate you. Can make you doubt yourself. Self-doubt can be a harmful bully."

I'm looking for a Miracle Man that tells me no lies, I'm
Looking for a miracle man who's not in disguise

    I don't know where he'll come from and I don't know where
He's been, but it's not our jimmy sinner because he's so
    Obscure.

Miracle man got busted, miracle man got busted

Today i saw a miracle man, on tv cryin', such a
    Hypocritical man, born again, dying.

He don't know where he's goin' but we know where he's been
It was out little jimmy sinner on the screen.

Miracle man got busted, miracle man got busted, miracle
    Man got busted, miracle man.

A devil he got busted with his pants down, repent ye

    Miracle Man
  • In this song, Ozzy ridicules televangelist (and longtime foe) Jimmy Swaggart, referring to him as "Jimmy Sinner."

The song was written by Osbourne, his guitarist Zakk Wylde, and his bass player Bob Daisley . Daisley, who wrote the lyric, originally mentioned Swaggart by name, but decided it would be more effective to keep it nonspecific.
  • In 1985, after a teenager killed himself while listening to Ozzy's song "Suicide Solution," Swaggart went on a crusade against rock music and took every opportunity to point out Osbourne's depravity. Ozzy got the last laugh in 1987 when Swaggart was caught with a prostitute and admitted an addiction to pornography. Swaggart became known as one of the biggest hypocrites ever to walk the earth, while Ozzy got his own TV show.
  • Ozzy used an English church as his stage to skewer Swaggart in the music video, but events took an unexpected turn when some of his guests befouled the chapel. "When the music went on, the pigs all took a massive s--t at the same time," he remembered. "Because it was so f---ing loud in there. My wife went, 'Oh, f---!' The playback started and they all went pfffffftttt! Sixty pigs s--tting! I had a pair of brand-new suede boots on, and I never wore them again. I couldn't get the f---ing smell of pig s--t out of them."

    Somebody To You Lyrics

    Yeah you!
    Yeah you!

    I used to wanna be
    Living like there's only me
And now I spend my time
Thinking 'bout a way to get you off my mind (yeah you!)
I used to be so tough
    Never really gave enough
And then you caught my eye
Giving me the feeling of a lightning strike (Yeah you!)

Look at me now, I'm falling
I can't even talk, still stuttering
This ground of mine keeps shaking
    Oh oh oh, now!

All I wanna be, yeah all I ever wanna be, yeah, yeah
    Is Somebody To You
All I wanna be, yeah all I ever wanna be, yeah, yeah
    Is somebody to you

Everybody's trying to be a billionaire
But every time I look at you I just don't care
'Cause all I wanna be, yeah all I ever wanna be, yeah, yeah
Is somebody to you (yeah you!)

    I used to ride around
    I didn't wanna settle down
But now I wake each day
Looking for a way that I can see your face (Yeah you!)
    I've got your photograph
But baby I need more than that
I need to know your lips
Nothing ever mattered to me more than this (Yeah you!)

Look at me now, I'm falling
I can't even talk, still stuttering
This ground of mine keeps shaking
    Oh oh oh, now!

All I wanna be, yeah all I ever wanna be, yeah, yeah
    Is somebody to you
All I wanna be, yeah all I ever wanna be, yeah, yeah
    Is somebody to you

Everybody's trying to be a billionaire

    Somebody To You
  • This song was written by the Swedish songwriters Carl Falk and Kristian Lundin plus American songsmith Savan Kotecha. Falk and Kotecha have co-penned several of One Direction's hit tunes including "What Makes You Beautiful," "One Thing" and "Live While We're Young." Lundin has written hit tunes for the likes of N Sync ("Bye Bye Bye") and Celine Dion ("That's The Way It Is").
  • The Vamps teamed up with the US singer Demi Lovato for a new single version, which was played for the first time on Capital FM on May 18, 2014. Asked by MTV UK how the collaboration came about, Connor replied: "We were just working with the same producers as her and she came in and did her parts the week after we recorded which was very lovely of her."

Bradley added: "We always knew we wanted a feature on that song and Demi nailed it."
  • Asked by Digital Spy what a 'vamp' is, Tristan replied: "A vamp is putting things together, putting ideas together, it's like an expression. That's how we came together, like throwing weird things together on YouTube and stuff."
  • After arriving at #10 on the Billboard 200, the Somebody to You EP earned the dubious distinction of the biggest ever second-week drop on the chart for a top 10-debuting album, when it plummeted 182 places to #192.

    The Four Horsemen Lyrics

    The Four Horsemen
  • Dave Mustaine brought this song to the band and worked on it with James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich. At the time, they called it "The Mechanix," and included it on their 1992 demo cassette No Life 'Til Leather.

After Mustaine was fired from the band in 1983, Metallica released Kill 'Em All with a re-worked version of this song renamed "The Four Horsemen." Mustaine's new group, Megadeth, released it as "Mechanix" as the last track on their first album, Killing Is My Business....
Mustaine's version has completely different lyrics, but the music is very similar. Since the Metallica song had been out for a while, Mustaine would often introduce "Mechanix" in concert by explaining that it was a track he wrote with Metallica. (thanks, Terry - Belleville, Canada)
  • "The Four Horsemen" is a biblical reference. In The New Testament, "The Four Horsemen Of The Apocalypse" go in different directions to spread the word of the end of the world. The concept of The Four Horsemen is not limited to The Bible. In 1924, a sportswriter referred to The Notre Dame football team's backfield as "The Four Horsemen," and the school had the players pose on horses with their uniforms on to publicize the team, which was coached by the legendary Knute Rockne. The photo became famous when it was picked up by wire services and the nickname stuck. For Metallica, The Four Horsemen could refer to the four members of the band.
  • Dave Mustaine claims credit for the title. A group called Gamma (led by Ronnie Montrose) has a song called
"Four Horsemen" that Mustaine played in his pre-Metallica band, Panic. He would refer to Metallica as "The Four Horsemen" and suggested they cover the Gamma song. The band never did the cover, but they did appropriate the title.
  • The bit of "Sweet Home Alabama" in the middle of the song came about after Dave Mustaine had been listening to some Lynryd Skynyrd. When the band was working on the song, Mustaine played played some of "Alabama" because, as he says, he was "being a jerk." His little joke worked, however, and the final product ended up including the bit of the Skynyrd classic.
  • James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich and Dave Mustaine are the credited writers on this track. Mustaine also got credits on the Kill 'Em All tracks "Jump in the Fire," "Phantom Lord" and "Metal Militia."
  • Bruce Dickinson, lead singer of Iron Maiden, has called Metallica "the f--king bane of my life." In the Iron Maiden computer game Ed Hunter, there is a level set in Hell in which you can kill the "four horsemen." (thanks, Brett - Edmonton, Canada)
  • Metallica has a habit of cutting the song in half by skipping the jam-like solo on the bridge of the song. It wasn't until December 7, 2011, on their 30th anniversary, that they played "The Four Horsemen" from beginning to end, including the bridge solo. (thanks, Cristian - Bellflower, CA)
  • The original album title was "Metal Up Yer Ass," with artwork of an arm holding a knife coming out of a toilet bowl. They thought it might cause problems, so they toned it down to Kill 'Em All, with a bloody hammer as artwork.

  • Alice in Chains singer William DuVall told Drowned in Sound the story of the song: "'Phantom Limb' was a musical demo that was sent to me, which I immediately reacted to, and within a day or so had written all the words for it," he said. "Within the first few minutes, I had a couple of lines for it, and over the next day or so, I refined it. All that stuff happened pretty quickly."

"Basically within 48 hours of them sending the musical demo, I sent them back a fully formed vocal track, pretty much what you here on the record," Duvall continued. "The actual recording was reproducing what I did at home. It never had a solo, so at one point where we were at Hanson, deep into recording, [Jerry] Cantrell asked me, 'Do you wanna play the solo on that, 'Cause I don't have anything.'"
  • Asked by Guitar Player magazine how he would characterize his guitar role in Alice in Chains, DuVall replied: "It's everything from writing riffs to providing counterpoint to what Cantrell is doing to doubling what he's doing to playing solos. I do the solo on 'Phantom Limb' on this new album. So, it's really everything that you would expect from a two-guitar band."

"My being in the group also gives the band another guitar player who can write things, and we've also turned into a bit more of a jamming outfit when we rehearse," he added. "I'm told they didn't really do a whole lot of that before. But that's sort of where I come from: a jamming background. I'll start up something and see where it goes in rehearsal. That's a different way of interacting, which is cool."

    I follow the Moskva
    Down to Gorky Park
Listening to the Wind Of Change
    An August summer night
    Soldiers passing by
Listening to the wind of change

    The world is closing in
    Did you ever think
That we could be so close, like brothers
    The future's in the air
    I can feel it everywhere
Blowing with the wind of change

Take me to the magic of the moment
    On a glory night
Where the children of tomorrow dream away (dream away)
    In the wind of change

    Walking down the street
    Distant memories
Are buried in the past forever
    I follow the Moskva
    Down to Gorky Park
Listening to the wind of change

Take me to the magic of the moment
    On a glory night
Where the children of tomorrow share their dreams (share their dreams)
    With you and me
Take me to the magic of the moment
On a glory night (the glory night)
Where the children of tomorrow dream away (dream away)
In the wind of change (the wind of change)

    The wind of change
Blows straight into the face of time
Like a stormwind that will ring the freedom bell
    For peace of mind
    Let your balalaika sing
What my guitar wants to say

Take me to the magic of the moment
    On a glory night
Where the children of tomorrow share their dreams (share their dreams)
With you and me (with you and me)

    Wind Of Change
  • The band wrote this during a visit to Moscow in 1989. The previous year, they became the first hard-rock band to play in Russia, and they returned to play the Moscow Music Peace Festival. At this show, they were inspired by the sight of thousands of Russians cheering them on even though they were a German band. In our interview with Scorpions guitarist Rudolf Schenker, he called this song, "a kind of message soundtrack to the world's most peaceful revolution on earth."
  • Lead singer Klaus Meine told NME: "Everyone was there: the Red Army, journalists, musicians from Germany, from America, from Russia-the whole world on one boat. It was like a vision; everyone was talking the same language. It was a very positive vibe. That night was the basic inspiration for Wind Of Change."
  • In 1990, this became the unofficial anthem for the German Reunification, an event that politically lasted from the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 to the official reunification on October 3, 1990. (thanks, Martin - Rostock, Germany)

    Letra de Good Girls -
Do do do d-do do do do do do

    She's a good girl
    She's Daddy's favourite
    He's saved for Harvard
    He knows she'll make it
    She's good at school
    She's never truant
    She can speak French
    I think she's fluent

'Cause every night she studies hard in her room
At least that's what her parents assume
But she sneaks out the window to meet with her boyfriend
Here's what she told me the time that I caught 'em

    She said to me:
    "Forget what you thought
'Cause good girls are bad girls that haven't been caught
So just turn around and forget what you saw
'Cause good girls are bad girls that haven't been caught"
Woah oh oh oh- oh woah oh
Good girls are bad girls that haven't been caught
Woah oh oh oh- oh woah oh
Good girls are bad girls that haven't been caught

    She's a good girl
    A straight A student
    She's really into
    All that self-improvement
I swear she lives in that library
But if you ask her she'll say
    "That's where you'll find me!"

But if you look then you won't find her there
She may be clever but she just likes to square
'Cause in the back of the room where nobody looks
    She'll be with her boyfriend
    She's not reading books!

    She said to me:
    "Forget what you thought
'Cause good girls are bad girls that haven't been caught
So just turn around and forget what you saw
'Cause good girls are bad girls that haven't been caught"
Do do do d-do do do do do do
Good girls are bad girls and good girls are bad girls
Do do do d-do do do do do do
Good girls are bad girls and good girls are bad girls

    She's a good girl
    (She's a good girl)
    Hasn't been caught
    (She's a good girl)
    She's a good girl
    (She's a good girl)
Hasn't been caught... caught... caught... caught... caught... caught... caught... caught...

    She said to me:
    "Forget what you thought
'Cause good girls are bad girls that haven't been caught
So just turn around and forget what you saw
'Cause good girls are bad girls that haven't been caught"

    She said to me:

    "Forget what you thought
'Cause good girls are bad girls that haven't been caught

    (Just turn around)
    And forget what you saw

Woah oh oh oh-oh woah oh

Woah oh oh oh-oh woah oh
Good girls are bad girls that haven't been caught

    Good Girls
  • 5SoS guitarist Michael Clifford and drummer Ashton Irwin wrote this song with Roy Stride, who is the vocalist of Scouting for Girls. Stride's pop-rock group have had several Top 10 hits in their native UK, including "Elvis Ain't Dead," "Heartbeat" and the chart-topping "This Ain't A Love Song."
  • Speaking about the song, Michael said: "It was one of the first songs that me and Ashton wrote. We wrote it with a guy called Roy Stride, he's from Scouting for Girls, a guy called Josh Wilkinson and a guy called George Tizzard and... Rick Astley. Roy came to us with the lyric 'good girls are bad girls that haven't been caught' and at first it didn't strike to me."

Ashton added: "It didn't strike to him, but I was like 'Roy, you're a genius.'"
  • Ashton drew the artwork for the song's single release whilst backstage at The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
  • The song's music video was shot in a disused prison in Los Angeles and finds the guys invading a reform school, where they search for "good girls being bad."

    Diary of a Madman Lyrics

    Screaming at the window
    Watch me die another day
Hopeless situation endless price I have to pay

Sanity now it's beyond me there's no choice

    Diary of a Madman
    Walk the line again today
    Entries of confusion
Dear diary I'm here to stay

    Manic depression befriends me
    Hear his voice
    Sanity now it's beyond me
    There's no choice

    A sickened mind and spirit
    The mirror tells me lies
Could I mistake myself for someone
    Who lives behind my eyes
    Will he escape my soul
Or will he live in me
Is he tryin' to get out or tryin' to enter me

    Voices in the darkness
    Scream away my mental health
    Can I ask a question
To help me save me from myself

    Enemies fill up the pages
    Are they me
    Monday till Sunday in stages
    Set me free

    Diary of a Madman
  • Ozzy's bass player Bob Daisley wrote this song. Said Daisley: "I really wrote that one about myself. When I was 16 I had my first nervous breakdown and it really f---ed me up. I was a sensitive kid and I have always been a sensitive person. I suppose you have to be sensitive being in the arts. I wrote the words about myself. Quite often we have problems and we are our own worst enemies and that is why 'Enemies fill up the pages one by one in the diary. Are they me?' I am my own worst enemy.

The other thing was that Randy [Rhoads] had the rough idea for the song 'Diary of a Madman' and I came up with title. I wrote all of the lyrics as well on the album. Ozzy would come and go from rehearsals. One day he came in and we played him 'Diary of a Madman' and because it had funny timing he couldn't get his head around. He said, 'Who the f--k do you think I am? Frank Zappa!' We said, 'You sing in this part but you don't sing here. This timing goes like this etc.' He started to like it when he got his head around but at first he was like, 'This is not for me'."
  • The title came from a 1963 movie of the same name starring Vincent Price.
  • Through a bit of revisionist history, Diary of a Madman became Ozzy Osbourne's second solo album. After leaving Black Sabbath in 1978, he formed a new band with Bob Daisley, Randy Rhoads and Lee Kerslake called the Blizzard of Ozz, which ended up being billed as an Ozzy solo project after the album was released showing just Osbourne on the cover and his name in big letters.
  • In our interview with Bob Daisley , he explained that this song was conceived before they had the title for the album, and it made a perfect fit. Said Daisley: "I thought it would be a good title for an Ozzy Osbourne album because he's got the reputation of being one of the madmen of rock and roll."
  • The little boy on the album cover is Ozzy's son Louis from his first marriage. (thanks, Terry - Belleville, Canada)

Oh, ain't it nice tonight we've got each other
And I am right beside you
More than just a partner or a lover
    I'm your friend

    When you Love Someone
    Your heartbeat beats so loud
    When you love someone
Your feet can't feel the ground

    Shining stars all seem
    To congregate around your face
    When you love someone
    It comes back to you

And love is a funny thing
It's making my blood flow with energy
And it's like an awakened dream
As what I've been wishing for, is happening
    And it's right on time

Oh ain't it nice this life, we've got each other
And I am right beside you
More than just a partner or a lover
    I'm your friend

    When you love someone
    Your heartbeat beats so loud
    When you love someone
Your feet can't feel the ground

    Shining stars all seem
    To congregate around your face
    When you love someone
    When you love someone

We're gonna give ourselves to love tonight
Lifting up to touch the starlight
And we will savor every second
    We suspend together
    You and I will
    You and I will
    You and I will

    When you love someone
    Your heartbeat beats so loud
    When you love someone
Your feet can't feel the ground

    Shining stars all seem
    To congregate around your face
    When you love someone
    It comes back to you

    Love Someone
  • Jason Mraz teamed up with the all-female folk group, Raining Jane, for the first single from his Yes! album. He wrote it with the lady quartet while walking down a dirt road in Virginia with a small herd of goats. "We all grabbed an instrument and we're walking down the road just making things up," Mraz told Radio.com . "That's really what songwriting is. It's taking risks and making things up and seeing what sticks.

"It was an observation of how wonderful love is," he added. "When you give it away it comes back to you immediately. It really is what gives us life."

    Don't Start Too Late
  • "Don't Start Too Late" is the acoustic part before "Symptom Of The Universe." Black Sabbath got the song title because they kept playing before the recording engineer wanted them to start. The engineer kept yelling "Don't start too late!" (thanks, Terry - Belleville, Canada)

    90s Music Lyrics

I've been driving 'round in my car
Rolled down the window beside ya
Blaring out loud of the broken speaker
(Everyday be listening to 90's music)

From that day we'd only be with one another
Gang hangs, bust the jams, meet my mother
There was nothing that could come between us
    (Teens tearing up the streets)

(Everyday be listening to 90's music)

Stones at my window, like Romeo
Shot by Cupid with the bow and arrow
Old school, make me drool, roses at my door
(Everyday be listening to 90's music)

Romance from the book, sun-drunk desire
Summer night star-gaze, hands to the sky
You moved to the burbs, many words you meant
(Came back in a year and it just felt different)

    Same old song I know
Won't get out of my head
    Though the feeling's gone
    The love ain't disappeared

But I've been missing what you love like, love like
I've been missing what you love like, love like
I remember what you love like, love like
I've been missing but it don't mean we can't spend
    Time listening to
(Everyday be listening to 90's music)

    MJ & Mariah
    Nirvana & Aaliyah
    R. Kelly & Mary Blige
    TLC & Left Eye

Out to find me a house with the white picket fence
Wedded, tied to a new life present tense
Stopped at the drive-in of our spring fling
And then the radio played that song we used to sing

Hey, sometimes I think about it
Oh, you know I think about it
Hey, sometimes I think about it
(After all these years it just felt different)

    Same old song I know
Won't get out of my head
    Though the feeling's gone
    The love ain't disappeared

But I've been missing what you love like, love like
I've been missing what you love like, love like
I remember what you love like, love like
I've been missing but it don't mean we can't spend
Don't remember what you love like, love like
I've been missing what you love like, love like
I remember what you love like, love like
I've been missing but it don't mean we can't spend

    90s Music
  • The first single to be released from The Golden Echo, the song finds Kimbra exclaiming on the chorus, "Everyday be listening to 90s music!"

"It talks about sharing music as a kid and falling in love to a soundtrack of TLC, Mariah, Nirvana, and Michael Jackson, then slowly growing up and away from that period of time," Kimbra explained. "There is an undertone of yearning for a return to that place, but it's also about an acceptance of time passing and that although things have changed, the music and the memories live on."

"Nostalgia is a common theme for me," she added. "I have a strong connection to my teenage years so I wanted to capture that boisterous playful energy with this song."
  • This features a vocal contribution and synths from Foster The People's Mark Foster as well as guitar work from Muse's Matt Bellamy.
  • Kimbra told Radio.com that she chose this track as the first single off her The Golden Echo album, as it sets up the record as one that's not necessarily going to follow all the rules. "I wanted to introduce the idea of playfulness," she explained. "I think of it as a statement song."
  • The album is named after a daffodil called the Narcissus Golden Echo that reflects up to the sun. Kimbra explained to Consequence of Sound : "It says in the Greek myth of Narcissus that he is looking at a reflection of himself in the water, and he eventually dies and so does the yellow flower. And so, of course, that took me to the Greek myth of Narcissus, and that is a theme that shows up not only on the album cover but also throughout the record."

"To me, it represents these two energies that show up on the album. Of course, Narcissus is that part of us that is very self-focused. But The Golden Echo also represents the part of us that is tuned into the whole and listens very deeply and calls outward — out to something higher or out to be connected again to mature itself. That's the album arc, and it goes between those two worlds. We're so caught up in ourselves that we often don't take the time to listen deeper. The Golden Echo summed that up for me."
  • Kimbra previously collaborated with Mark Foster on the Vows bonus track "Warrior," which was originally recorded for the Converse "Three Artists, One Song" series. Released as a single, it peaked at #22 on the official New Zealand singles chart.
