This was the theme song to the 1986 romantic comedy Modern Girls, which starred Cynthia Gibb, Daphne Zuniga, and Virginia Madesen. The sultry British singer Lauren Christy scored a minor hit with this song, which was the theme to the 1994 Bruce Willis movie Color of Night, which is about a psychiatrist who stumbles into the murders of some clients in a therapy group he oversees. The film was a huge flop, but the passionate song, about a woman reaching out to a distant lover who seems to be hiding some kind of trauma, got decent airplay.

Lauren Christy wrote this song with Jud Friedman and Dominic Frontiere. Christy would make her mark as a songwriter as part of the writing team The Matrix, whose co-writes include "Complicated" by Avril Lavigne and "Extraordinary" by Liz Phair.

Superman

This is a slightly stalkerish song about a guy who sees himself as Superman. He believes he can "see right through" the girl (presumably using his X-ray vision) so he knows that she doesn't really love the guy she's with. Where it gets a little creepy is when he threatens to find her even if she's "a million miles away."

It's all in good fun though. R.E.M. don't take it too seriously - Mike Mills sang lead on the track instead of Michael Stipe.

This song was originally recorded by a group from Beaumont, Texas called The Clique, who released it as the B-side of their only Top-40 hit: "Sugar On Sunday." The song was written by the group's producer Gary Zekley along with Elliot Bottler, Mitchell Bottler and Brandon Chase.

311 covered this song at one of their Halloween shows. Lead singer Nick Hexum dressed up as... you guessed it... Superman. On their DVD Enlarged To Show Detail 2, you can see them practicing it in the bus before the show, and then you see them perform it in concert. 311 site R.E.M. as one of their major influences. Hexum and Doug "S.A." Martinez have both commented on their love of R.E.M.

Fire Island is located just south of Long Island in New York State. The Fire Island Pines section is what longtime resident Andrew Kirtzman called the "spiritual homeland" for gay men. It's famous gay inhabitants have included Calvin Klein and David Geffen.

Those unfamiliar with the Fire Island might not catch the gay references ("pumpin' at the Botel," "Don't go in the bushes), and that was the point - The Village people were designed for gay appeal without alienating heterosexuals.

This was one of four songs on the first Village People album, which found its intended audience and set the stage for their stardom two years later. The songs on this set were all written by the French producers who created the group - Jacques Morali and Henri Belolo - along with the lyricists Peter Whitehead and Phil Hurtt . Morali and Belolo got the idea for the group when they were working with Hurtt on another Disco act:The Ritchie Family. When they recorded this first Village People album, they had Hurtt do the vocal arrangements and sing background, then offered him the job as lead singer. Hurtt, who was a popular songwriter/producer in Philadelphia, declined the offer but suggested one of the other background singers: Victor Willis. He got the job - that he wasn't gay was beside the point.

This song was inspired by the emotion of the Grand Prix drivers when they are behind the wheel, the ebb and flow of the race and the intensity of the atmosphere at the racetrack. Avicii immersed himself in the world of motor racing by visiting the British Lotus F1 Team's home at Enstone, Oxfordshire where he undertook an intensive course and found inspiration to create the tune.

Avicii performed the experimental track live for the first time in full at the burn Yard Live event in Budapest on July 26, 2013.

The song's music video was directed by the Russian filmmaker Pavel Kim, after he won a competition in which people from over 29 countries submitted their video entries for the track. Pavel's clip, titled "Midnight Race," imagines Formula One in 2077.

On first hearing, this song appears to be another superficial cut about desiring riches and luxury goods. However, B.O.B, explained to MTV News that beneath the surface lies a deeper message. "You can listen to this song and say this song is just about money, this song is materialistic. Why is B.o.B. talking about this?" he said. "And if you listen, it's deeper than that. This is about accomplishment, it's about growth, it's about doing things that you spend your whole life accomplishing. Even if it has nothing necessarily to do about money, it's a very emotional record."

The song's music video finds Bobby Ray wearing plenty of bling as he raps the song in front of a wall full of $100 bills. "The concept of this video is really taking something as materialistic as money and really painting the picture broader and what it means to people," he explained to MTV News. "Basically, I'm performing in front of this never-ending wall of money, and it's kind of symbolic to the never-ending rat race to get money."
