Wind Below

The title refers to the worker's revolution that will one day overthrow corporate domination over the modern world. More specifically, the song criticizes multinational corporations that maintain sweatshops in Asia and the Americas.

This was based on the essay The Southeast In Two Winds by Subcomandante Marcos. Marcos describes the Zapatistas and the Chiapas as "The wind below," as it is rising up and a storm is brewing.

"This is the kind of stuff I wish would work on the radio," commented Keith. "This reminds me of growing up, cutting your teeth in the Texas and Oklahoma beer joints and seeing these singer/songwriters come through - Red Steagall, Guy Clark and those kinds of guys 30 years ago. This song is sung from the perspective of a parent or friend of someone who has a great life but it suicidal. The narrator knows this person is only acting suicidal to gain attention.

Keith penned this tribute to farmers with his long term collaborator Bobby Pinson. He recalled: "We wrote that up in a cabin starting with some minor chords. It was one of those deals where we could just go down the neck of the guitar trying to find what chord goes next. You wind up back at one again and go, how'd we get back here? Then you start trying to write to it."

"I've got a friend who has about 10,000 acres and everybody thinks he's really well off," Keith continued. "I told Bobby that people think because this guy does a million dollars' worth of ranching business and a million dollars' worth of cattle business every year that he's sitting good. But it's a hard way to make an easy living. He's got lots of bills, lots of equipment, lots of labor, and puts in lots of time. When you think about running cattle and farming 10,000 acres - you may take in million, but probably 80% of that goes right back in. And then you still have to live, do upkeep for the ranch - you're always fencing, fetching cows, trucking in equipment and working. I usually write from the hub out, but this started with the story then we worked through a chorus. Tom T. Hall style - start at the front and tell the story."

As a successful country star, who has had to work hard for his wealth, Keith may be also delivering a message about where he came from. When asked on 101.5 the Eagle's Jon & Amanda Show whether he's become too rich to be truly country, he replied: "They just see me now. They didn't see where you came from; what your roots were like," he says. "If you've been poor before… no matter how much money you get, you're still not comfortable with it. You never forget what it felt like to be without."

Keith recalled: "He lived here in Oklahoma and died right before those massive tornadoes came through. So I started it out with that. He stood by me on my left for 25 years. 'Your bass is there where you used to stand and even though we got a killer band, I still look up in the middle of the song and realize Chuckie's gone.'"

The song follows Keith's 2009 cut "Cryin' for Me (Wayman's Song)" in paying tribute to a fallen friend.

Keith wrote in the Drinks After Work liner notes: "This album is dedicated in memory of Chuck Goff, our longtime bandleader-bass player,. He will live on forever in our thoughts and in our performances. We miss ya, Shmudlo."

This appears to be about a woman helping her husband or boyfriend overcome his depression. When we asked Five for Fighting's John Ondrasik what led him to write the song, he replied: "Experience, observation, and a hope that people in the grasp can find their way out."

Around the time this was released, Five for Fighting's John Ondrasik explained on his website: "I recently played 'The Devil In The Wishing Well' to a very close friend of mine who has a history of self harming, etc. Anyway, she was deeply moved by the song and played it nonstop for days (no I really mean it!). The Wanted's Max George penned the lyrics for this Soft Rock anthem about his breakup from ex-fiancée Michelle Keegan. The singer and the British actress broke up in July 2012 after dating for 18 months, but Max is clearly having a hard time coming to terms with the split,. "We've written about tough experiences we've had in our lives over the years - relationship breakdowns and that sort of thing," he told UK newspaper The Mirror. "I've written about my break-up with Michelle. I've written a couple of songs about it and the experiences I went through. Corsicana Lemonade

This is the title track of the sixth full-length studio album by Texas band White Denim. The record is a love letter to the Lone Star state.

Corsicana is a small city located on Interstate 45, some fifty-five miles south of downtown Dallas and this song is littered with other references to places in the band's home state. "On the last tour we'd kill time in the van by going through the alphabet with Texas towns," vocalist James Petralli explained to The Guardian, "so it's like an inventory, although some of the references do have more significance; I went to school in Nacogdoches and Josh grew up in Waxahachie. Kemah is a really dirty Texas coastal town with a rundown amusement park, kind of like the worst Brighton you could imagine. So the song is me trying to excavate some kind of narrative out of that."
